This is also hidden somewhere in a thread, but I think it deserves it's own thread. We (G4 owners) don't need to flash all our roms in Italian language. In stead of copying all the Update Utility files just copy "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe" and it will stay in English.
So if you get this error on you're G4:
ERROR[300]: INVALID UPDATE TOOL
This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA phone. Please get newer Update Utility
Just replace the "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe"! (I'll attach it too)
If you want to turn an already Italian installer into English replace all the files from "English Update Utility Files G4.zip".
Great! Thanks a lot for these! Hepled me a lot
Guess it should be a sticky, as not many people know where to find these things.
I've tried ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe but keep getting
"Error 208: File Open.
The update utility can not open the requested file. Please check your update utility".
Anyone got any ideas what I am doing wrong?
maybe you're not with the utility and the nk.nbf in the same folder(all in the root of the folder).
Thank you so much...this just saved my otherwise bricked phone!
thx worked perfect in flashing the radio rom on my g4 to 2.19 uk!
I can't figure out how to upgrade my rom. I keep getting the dreaded Error 300.
Can somebody provide instructions on how to run this?
How?
How do I do this?
What should I replace?
Where should I put the "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe" file?
I just normally run the updateroom from a folder on my laptop, so where should I place "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe"?
I am attemping to flash Superrom

If the rom is one exe file, unpack it first with winrar. You'll see the file afterwards.
Yes I knows it becomes a exe file after I have zipped it.
Ok here it goes:
I run a normal ROM update exe file, I get the
"ERROR[300]: INVALID UPDATE TOOL
This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA phone. Please get newer Update Utility"
Then what shall I do with the "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe " if I just run this one the message: ""Error 208: File Open."
Can someone set up a step by step guide please?
Seems you haven't upacked the rom executable. You should have multiple files afterwards (e.g. ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe and nk.nbf). Just replace the ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe! The file error tells it can't find your nk.nbf.
Damnnnnn Vippie Rocks!!!!!!!
How to do it ..
is it just click and run ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID .. and the application will do all .. or we just need to but all stuff in unpack flash ( any flash ) and install it to firmware ??
thanks allot in advanced
help still not working
I got the ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe and I run it in the same folder as the rest of the files from the program and I STILL get error 300
Thanks Wes
Thank you men !!!
Thank you very much men, you saved my life !!!

No... I think your half-ass instructions confused everyone! you posted the update utility yet did not instruct that it should have been extracted in the same folder as the new ROM of the user's choice.
If you were to create a folder then extract the utility to that folder, then click on the extracted file, then for sure you will get the error msg.
Download first the ROM you want in a folder, All New ROMs will extract to two files. One of those files is the rom update utility file that you will need to replace with the Update Utility exe file in this post. To do this just extract the update utility tool ( posted here ) in the same folder of the downloaded and extracted ROM folder. You will then be up and running. Follow the instructions.
To follow up with my previous post, I would suggest you start with the 'Wizard_Love rom or the Button Rom as basis. This will reset your download prompts on your device to accept any Wizard compatible ROM of your choice. After the first update most likely you will not need this utility to update your favorite rom onto your device.

And even than it wouldn't brick the device. So your "no" should be "yes, you're right vippie"!
Did you notice the "developers" in the websites name? What are people doing on this forum if they don't know how to REPLACE a file. It isn't necessary to spoon-feed people.

I take no responsibility if your brick you device!!!
This worked for me and i am now on Stock 1.6 6601 with the original baseband.
Please do not ask me to support any issues.
1. You need to downgrade back to O2 stock 4399.
Download the official update 4399 from here : http://loadbalancing.modaco.com/download.p...104_4399_21.pkg
Copy this update to the root of your sdcard and rename it update.pkg
Download this zip http://hotfile.com/dl/62324940/5dea6fd/recovery.rar.html
Unzip it on your desktop
Put your streak in fastboot mode
Go to the directory where are the files from recovery rar and execute the right cmd for your situation :
fastboot-yourOS -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.stock.new.img
push the the 2 volume buttons and at the same time execute the right cmd for your situtation :
fastboot-yourOS -i 0x413c reboot
Choose update from sd card …. And after the process you have now a 4399 21 build
Root your streak and install a browser like root explorer and a terminal from de market
2. Change the system so it will accept the 6601 pkg file when trying to restore.
Download the official 6601 build from HERE and place the file at the root of your SDCARD.
Download THIS FILE, unzip it and place it at the root of your SDCARD (the name of the file should show up as boot.img)
Download THIS FILE and unzip it where your want on your sdcard.
Then mount your / as rw and copy all the files unziped at the same place on the streak (etc to /etc, system to /system ...) do NOT overwrite entire folders, just copy the 3 files inside those folders to their respective folders under /system, /bin and /etc)
From terminal on your streak with su rights execute this
flash_image boot /sdcard/boot.img
Reboot your streak in normal mode
Reboot your streak in recovery mode and apply the update from sdcard
Once booted you should be on 6601 1.6 at&t firmware and baseband.
Thanks for the post.
I am planning to return to 1.6
This would help me.
wow, very cool, will downgrade later. thanks!
When we mount / as rw, I'm assuming you want us to but the contents of etc to /system/etc, bin to /system/bin and then the recovery-from-boot.p to /system, correct?
Also, do you happen to have the fastboot-windows? It's not a big deal if you don't.
downgrade and baseband restore worked great. thanks a bunch. this is especially helpful now with the kernel released and I want to play with some custom roms, can always revert back to stock.
the first link does not work, just goes to the Modaco home page
Are you downgrading from 8105 2.1 or the earlier version? Since I updated to 8105 i have been unable to get to 4399.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
ok i found the stock O2 4399 elsewhere, but the zip file does not have a fastboot-windows, just mac and linux. do i just move my fastboot.exe file to the recovery folder that has the recovery.stock.new?
Yes just use the fastboot.exe and rename the file if you want to follow the instructions exactly.

ok i just got
E:No signature (972 files)

Where is a reliable location? The 4399's I've found indicate they may have been customized. I am looking for plain vanilla stock 4399. TIA.

Really? That's strange. I downloaded it and it seems joeclark was able to as well.
EDIT: I just tried it myself, and it's not working anymore, either.
Go to this page, and skip the zip (they're pre-rooted) and go to the pkg.

fota error and flashing lights so you have still :
recovery from 4399
boot from 6601
So you have made a mistake during the copy of the files to the right location. .. try again....
I wonder if this is working for both 6941 and 8105?
Friends I found simple way to get back to official froyo from steves 1.4.6
just u will need a official froyo packge.
if u have astro file manager place the package in th root of your sd card.
from astro rename the package as
first irase the file extention .pkg
then enter nee extention .zip.
after that you will find the update.pkg is just a zipped file.
then simply flash clockwork recovry.
then go to install zip from sd.
then select the update.zip(previously update.pkg) then this will install all kernel, boot image.....
after that reboot your phone.
then you will find that you are now all official froyo.
this will help you to get back on stock froyo.
sorry for sms language that I have used in my post.
i have sent it using dell streak browser.
If you want the recovery(boot.img) original.
Then u can simply extract from the package by doing the same told above.
If u find this helpful please rate thos post.
Thanking you.
If you want the performance of dj steves rom u will need not to flash custom kernel
Simply copy paste the files from smokkus froyo fixx and replace to files of streaks internal storage.
I done this and got 1500-1575 on quadrant.
Anybody here can confirmed and have tried this method and work
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
All i do is Flash 309 Recovery then install 318 Rom and thats it
But using my innovative method you need not to flash any recovery

It takes like one button to flash a recovery..
Why would I want stock or official Froyo when Steve's build gets me quadrant scores of 1900?
the gps crashes all the way.some video formats are not playing well.

I don't know how you did this but the original .pkg files from DELL are ENCRYPTED!!! You can't just rename it to ZIP and flash it!
no friend i just diid it.
what means."from astro rename the package as
first irase the file extention .pkg
then enter nee extention .zip."
I thought astro only gave read only permissions? Also i cant grasp how its possible to install an offical dell package via clockwork? I thought it needed the stock image to load? I also thought clockwork was only useable with custom roms? Confused? ?? If it it does work simply changing the extension then that could be really useful to know

Hey lufc - so you were on steves 1.4.6 then flashed 309 and updated via 318 pkg and that was it? Just confirming as i may do this from 1.5.0 (should be same concept)
Hey frend I did it
wow it worked
so I have read tons of forums and i think i may have read too many and now I have gotten myself all confused, and i honestly am not evens sure where to start. can i go directly to steve's 1.9, anyone who can give me pointers it would be greatly apprieciated, even if it is just pointing me to one post that will work for me.
Well I went from dells 2.2.2 rom to streakdroid 1.9.0 without any problem s at all, although I did keep baseband 351 wether that makes a difference going staright from dells rom??
It is super fast, quadrant score of 2368 with an overclock to 1.19
I chose:
Dpi of 160
Stage ui
Perfmod.........no problems here
Dells bios
Vol boost

I did exactly the same as the user above and it worked a treat. I'd hold off of the 2.0 though at the moment. I have problems where the phone won't even boot at the moment.
HTH.
Paul.
i am also currently running the stock 2.2.2 and have baseband 351 so i guess i can just do the same as you.
so just follow these steps and i should be fine?
1.Download update-1.9.0.zip
2.Place Zip file into Root of SD Card
3.Make a text file and type in the options you would like to chose as shown above.
4.Save file under SDCard>install.txt
5.Boot into StreakMod or Clockwork Recovery
6.Select Update from Zip File > Select Zip File From SD Card > update-1.9.0.Zip
7.Wait for installation.
8.First Boot may take longer than a normal boot. Things are being installed, stuff is being generated. Patience.
9.Enjoy.
pretty straightforward, after the 1st time, every time after that is easy. was worth it thou. using rebel sim for unlock.
Note that you dont need to have a dpi line if you want to leave it at stock. If you aren't prerooted you can also flash superuser.zip and install busybox from the market to make things easier. I ended up doing this because the softroot on boot wasn't quite working for me.
i have re flashed my phone a while ago. it went well. from 2.3.5 to eclair 2.1. i reflashed due to wifi error, however, eclair installed, rooted the the phone, i plan to reflash it with a custom rom, Bionix 1.3.1 or Project V. im using the AIO toolbar, i tried it first with the Bionix, reinstalll packages 4 times. and i get an error. also with the Project V rom. same thing. error as well. the error says:
cannot locate /sdcard/update.zip
does this mean that my phone is not yet rooted? i have super user though.
Mostly likely you do not have the CWR Update.zip on your SDcard.
Go here and download Option B and put it on your SDcard. Reinstall twice and then flash your ROM
i already copy and pasted the file in /sdcard however it is still not working? shall i got into CWR? to make it work?
Put the CWR zip from my earlier post on your sdcard (not in a folder-just plain on card by itself). Might have to rename it Update.zip, but not sure about that one.
Boot into recovery (Blue) hit Reinstall Packages.
Will reboot back into recovery (Blue) and hit Reinstall packages again, will boot into CWR (Green).
From there, find Install zip from SD card and hit it. Now you can find you ROM and highlight it and install.
