File explorer as a Start Menu replacement. - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

I disabled WM6.5 Start Menu long time ago, but finding a good replacement was tough. All programs I've tried were either buggy, memory hungry, not finger friendly, wouldn't use folders, etc.
So, here's what I ended up with:
1) Installed file explorer extension to see big icons in Windows fexplore.exe.
2) Created the following script:
start ("\windows\fexplore.exe", "windows\start menu\programs")
sleep (60000)
kill ("fexplore.exe")
the script will run file explorer, opened on Start Menu, and then kill it after the specified delay so that it doesn't hang in memory.
This of course can be used with any file manager. I chose file explorer because I use Resco for all file management, and would rather keep these two functions separate. Also fexplorer.exe is very fast and ligthweight.
Finally, I attached the script to Start Button (hardware). The software button is assigned to Quick Menu - a perfect Start Menu replacement but not that finger friendly.
I am pretty happy with this setup so far. No memory loss, no random freezes, no waiting for Start Menu replacements to load, no screwing around with settings trying to get the right shortcuts in right folders. I am using SK Shortcut commander to set decent icons for my shortcuts, and merely copying the \Windows\Start Menu directory to storage card preserves all of my settings.

You probably tried long time ago or missed iPhonetoday that has none of the issues you stated here. The last one is either solved my way (see my sig) or your way

..
ive set Folderview.exe as my start menu.. (wm6.1)
one simple click on "start" and it takes me to all my programs..
SIMPLE'S!

Tito12, my issue with IPT was memory - it would grow to over 8mb, plus setting it up takes a while. Beautiful and stable, though.
Nanza - that's indeed simple. The only purpose of running a script vs direct link to exe is to free up memory after use.

Yes but folderview doesn't display files when the folder you want to open has subfolders and files, in my device at least I could see only subs...

...
i understand about the script, also the need to close after use, however..
im constantly using folderview for this and that so i dont want it to close dude, its also a hell of a lot faster when i leave it open, ive set it as exclusive in task manager so its always ready for my clickity-click click but the speed does depend on how many .lnk files are in windows/start menu/programs folder..
one problem with using this though, i cant find an app to launch the control pannel, the one thats avaliable is crap = the one with huge text.lol so im forced to add more .lnk files to the programs folder for the settings i need to access, hense slowing folderview :/ grim! still faster than clicking the start menu then the programs though

I could never figure out how to go back to the top-level directory in folderview. So if I click on the wrong directory, how do I return back to Start Menu ?
I never really used it, so the solution may be very simple.
Also, according to TaskMgr, process fexplore.exe takes up under 100 kb and folderview.exe 848 kb. So I guess I could leave fexplore.exe just running at all times.
An advantage of folderview is that it's actually using custom icons set in Iconchanger - so it's prettier.
Right now, I have 107 to 103 mb after Hibernate at startup (don't know why there's a difference sometimes), with ActiveSync running. That's with QuickMenu and several custom Titanium plugins, + 8 mb file cache. During daily use, my memory never goes below 60 mb, and usually stays in 80 - 90 mb range. Also, the responsiveness is very good. I'd like to keep it that way. When I was running Sense with standard Start menu, I would get maybe 30-40 mb with normal use, and if I ran say a GPS application it would drop to 20's and I would start getting all kind of problems. After the first six months, the Sense just didn't seem like such a great thing anymore. Having a useful and light Start Menu is a big part of getting a truly useful device.

@Ummagumma
I'm using the exe version and really never saw any swelling of memory, maybe you used an older version? anyway as long as you are happy with your solution...

I'm using the latest IPT exe version downloaded from XDA. It starts at around 490kb and then all of a sudden swells to between 5 - 8 mb after some use. May be a memory leak specific to TP2 (Rhodium) ?

a hell of a lot lower in memory consumption dude, your task manager lies, LIES i tell you!

i would of launched fexplore too to see the differance in KB, but i removed it from my rom, (lol) i realy didnt see the point in having it when i have total commander, its basicly a waste of memory if i dont use it..

the very first time i used sense/manila i noticed my device was sluggish, especially with 6.5, since that first flash ive always stuck with 6.1 and roms with no sense/manila. ive never realy liked it plus it takes up a lot of memory. im cooking my own rom now - ive got no sense/manila and my device is constantly running steady betwene 25-30mb (goes up to 40 when using opera10)

dude, ive just been using shortcuts to the individual settings i use so folderview displays them with all my programs. one launcher for programs & settings, but i really like the idea of your mortscript to open start menu/settings.
can you upload it here for me please dude?
if you can, just upload all the mort settings, ill select which ones i need
i noticed some items in your original settings menu that you probably dont need, you can hide items you dont want, eg Encryption, Certificates etc....
[hklm/control pannel/*ITEM*] add "hide"=dword 1

Hi
I'm not using the settings, exe I posted for you, I have a list for all the shortcuts in Settings and just created an icon for those I use.

@Tito
the mortscript just opens the start menu then exits dude, im using wm6.1, will that matter?
SendWin <-- opens start menu
Sleep(500) <-- guessing this is the wait time for next command
SendCR() <-- ?

This is why I linked to the post and not only the mscr
You first have to move the Settings icon in the StartMenu to be the first one, then it will work (it's why i call it funny)
BUT I see you are on 6.1, I don't remember how it works but basically the script is mimicking keypad action.

Control panel starter
Use Control.exe to open settings panel. I found it in my Energy ROM and a link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581480
Also, if you want fexplorer to close you could try
Code:
[COLOR=DarkSlateGray]start ("\windows\fexplore.exe", "windows\start menu\programs")
# pause until window is not active by fact you started a program
While( WndActive( "File Explorer"))
sleep (3000)
EndWhile
# Then stop the program
[/COLOR][COLOR=DarkSlateGray]Close ("fexplore.exe")[/COLOR][COLOR=DarkSlateGray]
# I would try close, but if it does not work you could go back to kill in your script
# kill ("fexplore.exe")[/COLOR]

@rory

Works nicely on mine too, same principle as the other, just no overlapping and smaller fonts
I'll nevertheless stay with the folders from IPT (more aesthetic )

This is just a simple flash tool to edit the "tabs" of the WM6.5 plugin (Titanium).
The aspect is simple and draggable. You can change the order and remove the tabs you dont want.
You can also add new tabs (to add/test new plugins) and change the Left SoftKey.
This is only a plugin manager, it doesnt install plugins, for that you can find them in the excelent thread All WM6.5 Titanium plugins by thedaniel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=511052
Small update:
----------------
- Added CS2P plugin
- Added TWolf plugin
- Added CDigiClock plugin
- Just replace your data.txt with the zipped one.
New version 7.02:
-------------------
- Minor visual changes.
- Fixed nem bug where a swapped tab couldnt be re-chosen for a different plugin.
- Fixed bug when jumping from 24 plugins screen to 16 that caused the application to go berserk.
- Fixed strange bug in the 24 plugins screen that didnt allow the third column to swap tabs.
- Added taskanium plugin
- Added new settings plugin
- Started programming the routine to read the real regkeys (uff)... Its not ready to use yet, but you can see its results already by pressing the ENTER softkey on the main screen. It will only read the first 24 plugins, like this app, and everything else in "undefined" (unused).
Version 7.01:
-------------------
- Fixed a bug on the MyPhotos plugin (thanks for the tip, nandar).
- Created a new routine to check how many plugins are enabled, this makes the plugin layout jump back to areas 5, 10, 16 or 24 if the correct empty spaces are available.
- Added option to swap plugin with empty buttons.
- Fixed bug that forced you to change the plugin if you dragged a button back to itself.
- Some visual cleanups and blinged graphics.
- Added the "Are you sure?" message in enable and disable all plugins (I think this was needed, since it would flush your previous settings).
- Added Restore button, to put the default settings, in case you messed up something (thanks for the idea, mallman).
- The maximum characters on left button link are now 50, this seems to be the correct limitation.
- Changed the order of the plugins, the 4 most used I've seen around are now the first.
- The splashScreen and exit screen take now exacly 1 second to dissapear, sorry about this, but it needs to load and save a lot of variables and registry settings.
To use:
-------
- Have WM6.5 º_^
- Install Flash 7 (Flash Lite 3.1 doesnt work).
- Install the latest CAB.
- You have 5 empty tabs available at start.
- To load a plugin just press the tab you want and a new area appears, where you can select one of the (currently) available 25 plugins.
- If you want to change the order of the plugins simply drag it to the one you want to trade with.
- To remove, drag it to the trash area.
- Once you select a plugin to the last button the layout will change to 5, 10, 16 or 24 tabs. I dont think anyone uses more than 24 at the same time, but I can add more in the future.
- To add new plugins, in the select plugin area, choose NEW PLUGIN, and there you can write the name (optional) and code of the plugin (code example: CClock).
- When the final version is out, updating to the latest plugins should be as simple as updatin the data.txt file.
- You can also write a plugin GROUP (for example, Code: CClock;CHome;ATFavePeople), this lets you have your favorite plugins all in one tab. Its not needed for now, since you have all the current plugins to choose from, but... this is usefull to me, since I can add in the weather or twitter tab all the different plugin names existing and it only shows the ones you have installed. ^_^
- You can also select all of the available tabs or select none, cleaning all your customizations.
- Restore is only used in case something goes horribly, horribly wrong...
- As before, the left softkey button can be changed in its own area. Use the special buttons wisely.
Older versions on post #3 below.
To do:
------
- Add icon to CS2P plugin
- Add icon to TWolf plugin
- Add icon to CDigiClock plugin
- Add a "NOT INSTALLED" warning on plugins that you dont currently have (if it can be done).
- Add a online update to the data.txt file (thats the plugin database, its on the same folder as the Titanizer).
- Read the "real" registry names, not just my saved database.
Thanks to:
------
I used a today screen refresher from hotdog53 and Wedge helped a lot in the code (wouldnt work without it) and creating the CAB.
-----
Atention, Showaco released CHome Editor!
It has much more options and its very customizable! ^_^
Nice one, i'll try it. Used "Titanium Customizer" atm. Lets see which one win!
_________Version 7:__________
Version 7:
---------------
- All new.
- Previous versions removed, because after version 7 the editor changed completly.

[Flash] M2D Flash Calendar v3 (Manila2D Today Page)

This is only a preview of what this new great app can let us do with M2D:
Manila 2D TodayPage by dan_ru - It allows us to use today plugins inside M2D!!!.
This is basically a flash calendar, that shows the date, it runs inside a today plugin that supports flash.

NEW on v3:
--------
- Small update, the day now refreshes if you click on the month's name.
- You dont need V2 to update to v3...
NEW on v2:
--------
- Fixed a bug that didnt allowed the calendar to update every day (duh), it now updates every 1 hour.
- Days font is now a little smother (its hard to notice, but it really is...)
- Did a test for the month and week days font but I couldnt use a embbebed font because of the other languages, so it remains a little crisp.
- To install the update, copy the atached SWF file on the zip into the \Windows\ThrottleHTML folder.
TO USE:
--------
- You can click or swipe the left and right sides to see the next/previous month.
- The default language is english, but you can select portuguese or add your own language on the attached txt file and copy it to the \Windows\ThrottleHTML folder.
TO INSTALL:
-------------
- Have M2D on your device (no, really...).
- Install Flash 7 (Flash lite may not work).
- Install Manila 2D TodayPage
- Enable the TV TAB on your M2D with M2DC or any other way, if you know how.
- Install the attached cab (originally made by APBilbo for TEMPUS.)
- Reset and enjoy.
TO DO:
-------
- Smoother fonts.
- Option to jump to the system calendar on click.
- Change ORANGE TV name (not sure how)...
- Also thinking of adding the option to get the holidays from a online database (still not sure from where or how, hehehe).
- NOT thinking about getting the alarms and appointments data into it, that would be really a lot of work for a small detail... Sorry.
NOTES:
--------
- If you know how to change the name of the TV tab from ORANGE TV to any other name, let me know...
- If you know any easy online database with the world holidays, something like this, but with a xml export or something, let me know...
- Sometimes the Manila 2D TodayPage may freeze the device on first run, or not show the tab right away, its a new software so its not bug-free, but its totally worth it.
i was trying to get this going from the other thread and it was all white. is there any changes here from that thread. can we not use the operator tab?
I wasnt able to use the operator tab, and since it works differently on different M2D versions, I'm gessing the latest M2D on WM6.5 can only use that one, even though his screenshots prove otherwise... :/
Theres probably more to be understood from the software, but that fact that it runs in the first place, is already great...
This new cab not only adds the icons for the TV TAB, it also autoconfigures the plugin to run accordingly. So its just "plug and play" hehehe...

Uninstall flash lite and 7 from your ppc, if you have anything else related to flash, like the patch for opera, remove it too...
Then reset and reinstall flash 7.
It has to be a flash instalation bug, thats the only reason why it wouldnt allow you to see flash files, or is rom-related, for some reason, sorry...

Some ideas about Orange TV name
This trick changes name of operator tab to "Action Screen", maybe the same for TV tab? Didnt try... just idea
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila2D\Operator]
"ServiceName"="Action Screen"
Appreciate it, but it didnt work... :/
Working but not 100%
TWolf,
Thanks for a nice Calendar Tab .. really love it!
It works after 2nd boot, and after applying the fixes (V2). However, once I disable M2D (i.e. switch to CHOME) and back to M2D, it won't load again. The Tab is there, but blank. Only a reboot can bring it back.
Any way to 're-activate' without boot?
Also, I have changed my M2D not to use Mega wallpaper, so it's a bit out of sync with the rest of the tab. Any possibility to make the background transparent so that the wallpaper is 'see through'?
All in all, this is very promising ... IIRC, someone else made the same for TF3D manila, but it's (3D) too heavy for Kaiser, and the only ROM I tried having TF3D working is only L26's.
ROM: TPC Stock Like 2008, M2D by Whitealien (got to this thread from your post there).
Well, the TP tool is still a little buggy, so I think all those loading issues are related to it.
When I need to update he sometimes updates correcly, other times gives me some errors and then I have to reload it twice. You'll have to report that to the author of the TP.
I was thinking of rebuilding W3D to work with this tab, but I'd rather have a fullscreen flash today plugin for that, and thats something Ive been asking here for years with little luck.
Anyway, made a small update to v3.

[APP]BGSwitchPPC - Change Today Screen Background Image Automatically

This is my first ever smartphone app, but it's based on a full-fledged windows app of mine that I've been using for a few years now.
Basically, I like to change my desktop background alot, each time I log on in fact. So I wanted something similar for my phone. Also, I wanted a way of having an appropriately dimensioned image for when the keypad was open/closed as I own an Xperia X1.
So I've created this little app for my X1.
What it does is choose a random image from a preset directory (different directory for portrait/landscape images - to allow for correct dimensions - can be the same dir if you're not fussed) and sticks it in as your Today Screen background image.
Current Features
Random Background Selection
Supports any resolution device
Different Image For Portrait/Landscape mode
Supports Different Directories To Select Portrait/Landscape Iamge From
Preview Backgrounds In The Config Util
Scheduling Support
Timer Support
New Background After Hard Reset Option
Current Wishlist:
Automatic image resizing/scaling etc
New Background After Suspend
Current Known Bugs
Hard Reset update seems buggy - but could just be my phone taking a while to load up! You might get a very scary error, but your phone won't be borked! I promise.

Installation notes:
Copy the .exe file to wherever you want it on your WinMo device
Run the exe
Please download it and have a play. Any/All feedbacks, criticism and requests more than welcome. Let me know if you like it too
Currently tested on windows mobile 6, 6.1 and 6.5 via my X1 and the microsoft device emulators.
After you close the program it remains resident in memory? It still continues to change wallpaper, cause it would have been nice if... It's a great program, and waiting for new features like automatically changing wallpaper after a custom time (15-30 minutes for example).
The program doesn't remain in memory. It sets itself to run as a notified program at the appropriate time. Much the same as a windows scheduled task.
I should be able to make it run every xx minutes as opposed to at a set scheduled time though. So watch this space!
Ok, thanks. And there's a little thing that worries me, on my HD2, it hangs the OS for some time after I press to change wallpaper (I'm on 1.66 stock ROM), then it lets go and OS works normally after a while. Maybe others encountered the same? Also, will it change the lock screen too?
how long are we talking about the OS hanging here?
it takes a few seconds, maybe 5 to 10 on my phone to do the file copies when you're setting an image. I get the spinning timer, and don't believe i've tried to access the start menu, although I doubt it'd work. I imagine it would lock for longer if you're using bigger pictues, all mine are 800x640 or 640x800 to start with.
and it should change the lock screen, providing of course you're using the standard winmo one.
Something missing for all the other similar programs:
Choose DESTINATION.
I mean i could have a wallpaper for WAD2, one for S2U2, one for PowerRadio, one for G-Alarm etc. etc. etc.. and each of them have it on different paths.
Your program would need a way to choose multiple pairs like:
SOURCE PATHS -> DESTINATION FILE
I hope my request it's clear
Thank you very much
I'm using stock ROM (as stated above) and it hangs the OS for some time, need to do more testing how long. Could the proggie be updated to change pictures at regular intervals, in the near future?
Well, the app is hanging the OS, it won't quit or respond to taps, not even to OK or anything else just right after I choose the wallpaper and set it, then I have to keep pressing keys until the phone responds and end program with X on taskbar. The wallpapers are 480x800 normal size.

What phone / version of WinMo are you using? I've only got my X1 for testing and the Windows Mobile SDK Emulators. Therefore only tested on WinMo 6.1 and 6.5.
I'll have the timer based update wrote today I reckon, just need to get some coding done between watching old lost eps
dagosjt:
to clarify: What you want is a way of changing wallpapers other than the windows today screen one. And to do this you want the ability for the program to replace a custom image file you specify when its run?
New version with timer support uploaded and added to front post

Absolutely yes! just to make an example, there are apps like G-Alarm or PowerRadio (and many others) supporting custom backgrounds. So I ask for something like:
/My Wallpapers/ -> /PowerRadio/backPowerRadio.jpg
/My Wallpapers/ -> /G-Alarml/backGAlarm.jpg
even if /My Wallpapers is the same directory, I would like the chance to choose different images (so the randomizing would happen two times, one for PowerRadio, one for GAlarm). Instead for people who like having everything the same, you could make only one randomizing for the same source, and copying that chosen image to all destination.
Hope I was clear, thanks a lot for your attention!
cool, i should be able to do that.
As a word of warning, I can't garauntee that changing the original file will make these progs auto update. it might be they cache the bg somehow (an issue that caused me a few probs with the tday bg)
But changing additional BGs should be doable. Will take me a while to add an extra config screen, but as always, watch this space!
Well, no one ask you to make other programs update their background
I'm asking this features because I've already a mortscript doing everything I'm asking. However it has two "big" shortcomings:
- It's quite difficult to configure for the other people
- I've implemented the scheduled update (let's say every 30 minutes) however often something block the update and I've to relaunch the script.
Hope your application will be able to make better than my script
well, I'm speccing it at the moment, probably take me a week or so to write the actual code (My evenings tend to get tied up doing other stuff). But fingers crossed, should have something by next weekend.
Another little request, if you don't mind
you could give the option to use your program command line, for example:
BGSwitchPPC -path:1 -next
BGSwitchPPC -path:2 -previous
BGSwitchPPC -path:3 -random
Where path:<id> needs to refer to one of the configured path list, while next, previous, random option let you move around in chosen path file.
This would be handy for somebody wanting to build a slideshow/photoframe inside applications like WAD2 or HS++ or iPhoneToday or similar
Thanks again
Your program crashes on my SE X1 whenever I try to specify the wallpaper directory.

[ROM][CDMA]AMDZero ZeroSense (DC23) v1.5 (23569)

Man this was a beast to get working.
Let me start by saying thank you to Ninja4Hire and Steel Reign for helping me get this rom out. This was a team effort and without them this rom would not exist. Also would like to thank nOObody and Rapid for their Sense 2.5.cab used on the i8000 side of the house. Ninja helped cooked up a newer sense version 2015, but they were the pioneers for putting sense on the Omnia II. Thank you Beta Testers as your input was invaluable.
This is a Sense 2.5 rom based mostly off the 2015 version. Yes it is intended for HTC devices, but we Omnia users could use a little lovin'.

As always this version is based off the Samsung Official Update and uses the PDA portion of DC23. What does this mean? I means you should update your phone to the Samsung Official Update for DC23 before flashing this rom. You only have to do it once, so if you already did it, you are good to go!
XDA_UC is installed in this rom so let it run through before you start tapping away. And a Soft reset after it is complete wouldn't hurt as well.
To use XDA_UC
Before you flash my rom, make a folder on your "Storage Card" called XDA_UC. Make a folder in that folder called SD. Whatever you want installed to main memory will go in XDA_UC folder. If you want to choose the install location, use the SD folder. Should be working 100%, but let me know if you have any issues.
Current Issues with phone:
- Adding favorites to Samsung dailer menu does not work. There is a fix, just search for it (Ninja even posted a pretty little cab for you guys).
- Black on Black text, this is only seen in the edit contacts portion. I'm too tired of looking for the fix, and I don't like white on black for my themes.
- Not really an issue, but some have requested the original dialer skin, as the one I skinned is difficult to read in the sunlight
If you want the original dialer skin, just unzip the dll and place it in the windows directory and overwrite.
You have to use Total Commander, or Resco File Explorer (not free).

Current Issues with Sense 2.5:
- Home Tab >Edit Home Layout" currently does not work on Omnia 2's. If you try it, it will freeze your phone. If you want to edit the layouts you will need to change some simple values in the registry. This i8000 post will help, but I will try to put together a simpler list for us.

If you like my work, drop a thank you. If you want do buy me a beer:
AMD!!! i love it bro!!!! especially being that my call quality and signal strength are where it should be !! that was the only problem i was having with the other sense roms. thanks bro for the hard work. and also, i really like the fact that you have the overclock set as a one press setup now. i can tell you put some time in this one man and its awesome.
I'm glad you like it! Also thats great news about the call quality.
man o man, I spent the last week working on this probably more than 5-8 hours a day trying to get it perfect.
Thanks again!
HI, i m new to OMNIA II, my first phone was XPERIA x1.. can you please tell me is this rom ok about speed, stability and how much free ram we get after flashing ?
can I return to stock rom afther this and how ? tnx
thats a whole lotta Qs in a short span. I'll try to help:
Speed is good just a wee bit laggy at times when weather fills up the whole screen (can be turned off).
Ram/Storage, with Sense on and enabled it is about 30-50MB Ram free and Program Storage is about 180MB free on first boot.
You can reflash using OCTANS full v2.11, there are directions over at MoDaCo - http://www.modaco.com/content/veriz...ssion/304107/how-i-flashed-my-omnia-vzw-i920/
Nice
Beautiful ROM, but she sure is a hog. I think it has to do with the GPS being on for the HTC Sense to work correctly. I am new to this so I do not know much but I do know if you turn it off your weather stops working and there doesn't seem to be a way to have it go off your zip code so the GPS can be turned off. I watched the battery drain from 100 to 75 in about 2 hours.
It also freezes a lot. I tried lowering the mhz back down to 800 that still doesn't seem to help. Had a couple calls not even come in because the ROM is so heavy and locks up on itself. I got text message complaints about not taking my calls after I wiped it out and tried the ROM again after clearing all data.
Other than that it seems pretty slick. I am not sure the purpose of the Facebook application built into sense. It showed me my status and that is it, nothing else.
Other than that it is beautiful, but I have to find a way to keep my calls coming in without checkin if the ROM is stuck doing something all the time.
This is the first I've heard of this.
Are you overclocking during this time?
The weather actually doesn't us gps, but google my location service. So if you have an internet connection, then you will get a weather location AND update.
There is a program that turns off data connection after 1-5 minutes, but I haven't found this to be a problem with my phone.
I haven't had one lock up since I've used this ROM, only when I tried to overclock it to 950-1000MHz.
I re wiped it with "delete all information" and it seems to be running okay now for the freezing issues. I would like to know how to turn off the animations and such, or at least make it so Google, or my GPS doesn't run all the time, the battery is already dead since my last post, and it used to stay for 4 or 5 days wit moderate use (that is running on high performance @800mhz). "Something" is definitely draining this device. I usually make a short cut and task manage end task everything before I lock the device and put it away. Maybe you folks could throw me some ideas.
X
and...
yes I am overclocking at this time. 1000mhz. Think that is the massive battery drain? I got the lockups to stop after I "cleared all data" . I am thinking its something to do with Google location service and my GPS, but let me know me know.
X
The new BING if you have it installed MAY BE a issue. It seems IMHO to keep the GPS going even though you exit it.
My guess anyone else??
Helping out.
I am really interested in helping out with these projects, especially for the i920. I have a B.A. in New Media Design, and spent 3 years doing comp-sci, and currently do web design on the side of my real job.
I would like to take part in these projects and become a cooker as well. If ya can do it on a WinVista machine
I know this is off topic or whatever, but where would I get started to get the tools I need and to figure out the structure and how to edit, pull ROMS, get CABS, test them without physically puttin them on the i920, etc?
For example, how would I pull the original Verizon i920 ROM and decipher how to remove the bloatware from it. Is there software where you can run the ROM on the computer without physically putting it on the phone to test? Just questions like that.
PM me if you think I would be of assistance, with anything, finding software, etc, updating graphics, or whatever. I am really interested in doing this.
Battery Drain
Ok, on ROM Install it is defaulted in battery mode to have the BACKLIGHT ALWAYS ON, and TURN OFF DEVICE is set to ALWAYS ON.
Think that might be the problem with the battery
X
you know also I have performance set on high, instead of auto like the stock rom.
If you want to cook pm me and we can hook you up.
I have a thread on MoDaCo about cooking your own rom. Even provided a kitchen.
Lock Screen
Running everything at normal speeds, the ROM once in a lock screen for a while, will be unable to return. Screen lights up, you see the top icons (bat, speak, signal, etc) but the keys for the lock screen will not appear and you will only see the background image that you have themed.
Just figured I'd throw that out there. Running good other than that so far.
X
This is because the lockscreen is using the 6.1, instead of 6.5
you will notice at the bottom there is an unlock button. Press it, then press the unlock button in the middle.
I did this so people can use their own lockscreens if they want.
Like S2U2 for example.
lock
Ok, I would like to be able to set that up.
S2U2 will restart the device fine. When I select shutdown I believe it just goes into hibernate mode.
There's a lock button showing after you hit the windows logo on the bottom left.
If you utilize that lock option will it prevent it from crashing out? I have to keep removing my battery to get it freed.
There are 3 ways to get to the lock screen with this ROM and I have utilized both except the one at the bottom left which I think is just another link.
I have to have it password protected after 0 minutes so when I hit lock i can actually put it in its case and not worry about random calling of people.
S2U2 would pose useful if its functions did what they were suppose to
X
S2U2 works great, also if you are looking for auto locking consider smartlock.
it is a program that configures the default windows lockscreen for you and it shows up as a setting under system settings.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=265443&d=1263018810
thanks
I'll check it out.
I'm going to post a new ROM hopefully today. Just touching up somethings and setting the 6.5 lockscreen
If you want to edit the registry try this:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\LockScreen]
"Active"=dword:00000001
"Enable"=dword:00000001
New version is up, but lockscreen is still 6.1 by default. Forgot to put in the 6.5 reg edits, so use smartlock if you want.

[APP] MMAppLauncher v1.0 - Full Start Menu Replacement (WM 6.5, 6.5.x)

MMAppLauncher is a full Start Menu and Settings replacement similar to Android. It does more than just replace your original, boring start menu. It keeps track of your most 20 recent run apps, as well as allowing you to save an app as favorite. Another unique feature that MMAL has to offer is the ability to run any process (similar to Run under Windows) with given arguments. On top of the cool features mentioned, MMAL also allows you to modify any shortcut name and icon of your choice with a few touches of your finger tip.
Features:
Full Start Menu replacement
Keep tracks of 20 recent run apps
Save apps as favorite for easy access
Run processes similar to Windows Run (supports arguments)
Full Settings replacement
Requirements & Supports:
.NET Compact Framework 3.5
Windows Mobile 6.x Professional
QVGA, VGA, WVGA, and Square Screen Support
Landscape Support
AppToDate Support
Version 1.0:
1.0.100901
No limitation.
Wow great! But would it be possible to integrate a black or darker background? The white is really bright
I'll be loading this tonight and will report any bugs. One question though, does it support folders? Thanks!
Great Idea! I'll test this and send my feedback.
I'm a fan of all your apps bro!
Nice job.
-------------------------------------------------
EDIT:
My Feedback:
Scrolling is smooth.
The idea of "Rounded gray boxes" is great.
The last tab does not work and app closes with "ArgumentNullException".
My Suggestions:
- Maybe implanting some kind of cache for shortcuts reduces the time when app starts on reboot.
- It would be nice to allow user to create groups or folders for apps and be able to organize them.
- For users with many application shortcuts a "Quick Search" function or an "alphabetical selector" (like the one in Manila contact manager) is really time-saving.
- "Skin" support will also be cool!
Does it disable the WM 6.5(.x) start menu?
Looks like a decent implementation. Nice work.
Will report back my experience with it.

Hmm that's strange for the ArgumentNullException. I've tested on stock rom and stock emulator 6.5 and 6.5.x. They work fine
I like the skin and cache suggestion. But when the app starts up it still needs to read from the cache to memory which still takes time.
You can add your apps to favorite to easier searching.

This part is not working for me.
It overrode the Start Menu one time and then would no longer open after that.
Neither this app, or the WM Start Menu.
Although it's possible, that there may be a conflict with the new WM Start Menu softkey in CHT 2.0? Maybe something to look at anyhow.
Nice Beta app. otherwise. Also, not sure what the last icon on the bottom bar is(settings?), but it crashes with an exception for me.

This looks SWEET
I'll try this program, looking for an good Start Menu alternative (since it eats so much RAM)
My ROM: TouchPro2 Simplicity 21679 - 6.5.X with CHT installed (not cooked in)
My comment:
Played with it. After installing it seems to work pretty smooth.
It takes some time before all programs shows up but I think that's because my start menu folder is to full.
The start menu overide only works when the program is already active (process is open). It's posible to use AMEBA for this one.
CHT button settings that probaly solve your problem with CHT (i know the button is ugly, just to get the idea).

The NETCF error, it comes when I play with the start menu, a soft-reset didn't help. I'm sure that NETCF is installed, because when I trying to install it says there's already a newer version installed. GOT ANY IDEA?
.
Disabling the standard start menu:
This is all before i've installed the cab to disable the standard start-menu.
Installing the cab doesn't change anything, hard to tell if it free some RAM.
Afther that I enabled the Start Menu button (softkey) by adjusting the following registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Bubble Tiles]
"TextModeEnabled"=dword:00000001
"HardwareStartKeyEnabled"=dword:00000000
"HardwareDoneKeyEnabled"=dword:00000000
When the buttons are visible again they don't have any function
After all that i've used AMEBA to start MMAppLauncher when I press the Start Menu and it works.
The start-menu hardwarekey is easy to adjust in the regular button settings.
After all this configuring/tweaking:
No matter if the program is started already or if i'm in CHT or not, MMAppLauncher will start when i hit the start button.
Hopefully this testing and adjusting helps you with this great app.

I see you listened to my suggestion for the app. Great work! I will install it today.
I would say that reproducing the start menu/programs folders with all the subfolder navigation would make this app stand out from the crowd. I would guess that there are many out there like me that have too many apps installed to not have them organized in subfolders.
Also, maybe a setting for how many columns of icons to show- 3 or 4 or 5 or maybe even 6 for those with larger screens.
Great work though. I really like your apps.
