nevermind, found a way...
Download Any Cut off the Market..
1. Create a new shortcut
2. Choose Activity
3. Scroll down to Phone Info (make sure there's room on your homescreen)
4. Choose GSM only in the drop down box
5. Running on EDGE..

So as the title says, I'm experiencing times when I have full 3G (I don't live in a HSPA + area) but the H its greyed out. I can make calls and send texts, but can't access any websites. I'm running ginger blur 3.5 but was experiencing this prior to loading it as well. I'm not running any battery saving apps that may be disabling the internet usage. Usually a reboot of the phone will get me service. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance!

This might not help you.. I use a widget that can turn on/off mobile data and sometimes it gets a little screwed up. If I go into settings > data > data manager (I believe) and manually turn it off and back on it sometimes fixes my problem. You could try that instead of rebooting sometimes ..not super helpful advice but ya never know.

Any suggestions are helpful!! I'll be sure to try that the next time it happens! Thanks

Did you configure the APN already? Did you try your SIM card on another phone to discard a problem with your line? Is data enabled in data manager?
Check those. That might be the issue
try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13838602&postcount=5
works perfectly here, no idea why you have to do it though, obviously you need to make sure your apn settings are correct aswell.
Hi everyone,
so i have this problem, when using 2g/3g i cant download larger files then only few MBs. I can only download large files when WiFi is turned on.

doesnt work,
about the network problem, i doubt so, because before i was using different provider and had same problem.
I had the same issue once (although I was on custom rom, not stock) and I only find one way to fix it. Restoring all firm with companion (I don't matter the user data) and then I tried 3G download with stock firm, and worked fine.

OK this WORKED!
i think its the ultimate solution.
Ok so here i think how it is...
When you insert a sim, OS itself configures to be available for mobile internet services, but it is not accurate. Even it settings i had provider settings i wasnt able to download larger files from Market. So even i thought it wount help, i gone to my service provider website and checked for settings. I sent SMS with text required to get settings via SMS, it said my phone doesnt need that and doesnt fit, and im doing at my own risk this and not only that. Even in website i checked that my phone automaticly configures own correct settings. But it was false. I got the settings even they adviced not to use because they are for older phones only and the result is great, now i can download the files from the market!
So i think first thing to do when such thing happens, to check internet settings with the ones provided by service provider to see if everything matching
Hey I got a P509 with cyanogen 9 bluepill on it. for whatever reason my connection bounces every now and then from 3g to edge...no good reason for it...I almost always have a full set of bars when I'm at home. Now I have an option to connect only at 2g speeds but is there any way to prevent it from going from 3g to edge? maybe an app or setting?
not happening with me
where do you live
i live on east coast(not telling you any more)
Try using 3g only option.
1. Dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Click 'Phone information'
3. Scroll down to the first dropdown and select WCDMA Only
If you dont get good signal in this option then i think its probably a problem in your network or location:silly:

I live 45 mins south of chicago. I get full bars everywhere outside my house. Inside I get between 3-4 bars (4 being full)
Dialing that number pulled up a testing menu, within that testing menu I was able to click on phone info and set wcdma only. Thank you that should do it. I used to have that option when I was runing the old 2.2.2 original android system but It was under wireless and networks not testing lol.
As far as the latest CM afaik I'm using the latest "stable" version. I would rather stay away from nightlies and such as this is my full time phone.
In either case this should be solved. Can't really test it as its kind of random lol but be assured I'll be back if it messes up haha.

Hi,
After much work getting my Photon onto PagePlus, I finally had everything set up and working about right.
Then I decided to port my old number over, from then on I had a blue triangle over the signal strength bars, but talk and text worked so I was basically happy.
Then last night I was poking around in Battery Monitor Widget and under their Tests button I decided to change a setting from "CDMA/GSM" to "CDMA only." Immediately or very soon thereafter, the Photon rebooted. It booted past the Motorola and Sprint logos until I saw the notification bar and "Starting Services" A couple icons show up on the notification bar, then it reboots. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I have found that by going into the boot/recovery menu I can choose "Boot Android (No BP)" and get back to Android. However, the cellular radio is disabled, it has a red circle/crossbar on the signal strength. I don't know if that's because of the "No BP" or because of whatever is causing the phone to reboot.
I'm currently working on backing up my files to the external SD.
So at this point, HELP! I know I can wipe the phone, but I am willing to work to fix whatever is wrong rather than just give up and wipe it. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks.

Is that procedure destructive; will I lose my layout and settings? Also I have 2.3.4, that procedure specifies 2.3.5.
Try dialing *#*#4636#*#*
Then choose Phone info
Then pick CDMA auto PRL
Ah, that's the screen I got to through the app, that's where the problem seems to have begun.
It's set on "Unknown" and just reverts back to "Unknown" with any of the options I pick.
My cell radio isn't working; I have a red circle-bar on my signal strength, and the only way I can boot is "Boot Android (No BP)". Not sure if either of those are a factor in the setting not sticking.
Try to flash a photon 2.3.4 sbf or do a factory reset
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
Factory reset will delete the data on my phone and if you read my first post I don't want to do that. I just need to fix the cell radio / reboot loop problem.
The sbf thing looks interesting, I will try that. It's supposed to keep apps, contacts, and settings. This page looks like a good tutorial: http://www.motosunfire.com/sbf-restore-photon/
EDIT: It worked, and everything seems to be just like I left it. Thanks for the advice!
Now I just have to get flashed to Page Plus again.
I'm guessing you have 2.3.4 am I right

Yep, used the instructions on the page I mentioned to install a 2.3.4 SDB file. Got it reflashed to PagePlus and re-rooted (found a really easy root script on the motosunfire site, it's just a .bat file) and I'm a happy cat.
Nice
