While I was on 1.6, I became quite fond of its photo and video appt. It was faster than anything I've used on froyo and it sorted by date in a convenient format. Do you think it would be possible to get that app for 2.2? I Googled for it and learned that it was developed by Arcsoft and was based on their Mobile Media app, which I also can't find. Anyone have any suggestions?
If not, what is the fastest gallery program for froyo? I have hundreds and hundreds of .PNG files residing all over my SD card (not in just one or two image directories), some buried several subdirectories deep.
Right now, I use andexplorer or root explorer's thumbnails to fInd image files, but that way is TEDIOUS.
Thanks.

I don't know if it will meet your needs but JustPictures is free. Turning off some of the animations and UI baubles may help with speed.
Try QuickPic from alensw.com. It's free in the market.
I love quick pic. Love it--fast; usable thumbnails; organized around directory/folder structure. Wonderful.

I really wanted to browse my pics stored on Picasa and I'm pretty fond of the Google Gallery app (I know there are others out there).
So I installed this from Astro and lo and behold it worked on the Nook Color! Enjoy!

After installation, go to your GMAIL application and select Settings > Accounts. Add a new google account, then select your current gmail account (re-add it) or select from the google account associated with Picasa.
Great Tip dascud!

Worked for me too - thanks for the tip!
Worked for me too. However, I could not get my picasa albums to sync initially.
I had to go to my GMAIL app and add my (same) account again which gave me the option to sync my picasa albums and everything works fine now.
I'm lost on the Nook Color and photo viewing, not to mention videos.
I have tried just about every app I can think, researched until I'm blue in the face, but no matter what I do, if I drop 80 photos taken by your typical-everyday camera into a directory, and copy this directory to the mounted micro-SD card, this device nearly has a stroke just creating thumbnails.
At this point, the Gallery app mentioned in this thread shows the grid of photos, and about 10 of 80 actually have a thumbnail that was created, the other 70 thumbnails on the grid turned from gray to black while the application struggled to create the thumbnails.
With 32 GB of storage space, there's no way I could manage hundreds (or thousands) of photos. I must be doing something wrong here, so much storage space, no way to use it.
Cool.. with it could also see my uPnP server
works great on my NC, thanks a lot!

I've been having problems with unresized images. The resized ones display fine. I'll do a batch resize to see if that works for my photos.
Any help or new information would be much appreciated. There are a couple of apps out there that can take care of the video, but I just can't locate anything else that can deal with photos.
This is frustrating, as I purchased this device specifically over other devices that don't allow for removable storage, but what good is 32 GB of data if you can't sort it and find stuff properly?
See this thread for a really fantastic photo app.

What did you change to allow this? I rooted with Auto Nooter and everytime I try to install an app from Astro I get the following message: "Install Blocked"
I also tried with Root Explorer and still nothing. I am sure I am missing something very easy. Thanks in advance

I wish I could download ALL of my Picasa images to my Nook.. But I have yet to find anything that'll do it. A few apps will let me download individual pictures, but I can't suck down the whole thing.
Picasa Tool Pro, as mentioned, is a nice tool, but as far as I can tell it has a batch uploader but not downloader. Although I'm going to check it out for the upload facility, pictures I take on my Nexus One I'd like to make to Picasa.
Honestly I still haven't figured out a halfway sane method of keeping my N1 and NC in sync.
Has anyone else heard of this program MartView? Apparently it lets you download magazines for free and read them on your computer. I'd like to transfer the files to my Nook so I can read them later. Problem is, I have downloaded the program but it won't open. I've downloaded and installed it several times. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

The program is really nice. But there doesn't seem to be an Android version as of yet. The magazines are stored in C:/My e-books but they won't open with a PDF viewer. You can however create .mart files from PDFs and other file formats. The nice thing is that it'll open PDF files and in a very nice way too.
Allow me to clarify. I have downloaded and installed it several times on my PC and it won't open. I even click on the .exe file and it won't start.
Sent from my Nook Color.
When I installed it both home and work comps the firewall asked me to allow it or block it. Maybe you're not seeing that window which would give the appearance of the program not starting.
I would also try running it as administrator.
I'll have to look again. I don't recall seeing any pop up asking for anything like that though.

Is there a way to hide certain folders from showing up in the gallery? Thanks for the help
Download Quickpic from the market, I use it as my default Gallery. You can hide and even lock certain pic folders.

Ok thanks a lot
Came in here to say QuickPic as well. Not only can you hide stuff, you can choose to exclude folders from showing crap you'd rather not fill up your gallery. Great free program.
a more manual way would to be create a blank file using root explorer called ".nomedia" and place it in the folder with the images you are wanting to hide from the gallery.
make sure after you use something like sd rescan or just reboot your phone
I use the ".nomedia" method, but you could also put all of the files you don't want in the gallery in a folder whose name begins with a period as well. Ex: "sd_card\.MyPics\img001.jpg"
I use file copy. It even uses a password to get in which I like

I put several 1080P wallpapers into the camera directory, but none of them show up in the HTC stock gallery app.
But when I changed the files' names to the sequence which the camera app uses, and the pictures showed up.
I never used Sense nor any HTC products before, so I do not know if that is just how the app was designed or not. But it certainly is inconvenient.
So I would rather want to use the 4.2 gallery or the stock Android gallery...Is it safe to push that app through adb?
How did you get the pics on the phone? I had a similar issue, pics a download in the browser would show up in the gallery but the pics that I unzipped from my drop box would not show up. I cleared data for gallery, wiped caches and they still wouldn't show up. I had to do a factory reset for the unzipped pics to show up in the gallery. This was after unlocking/rooting. Don't know if I would've had the same issues stock but didn't try it before unlocking.

In the camera folder it probably only looks for the names that the camera uses, which would make sense. Put them in a different folder.

Already tried it before i found the solution stated above, but no other directories than the camera folder is recognized by the gallery app.

I have Root Explorer which does the same, but it does not show up on the selections for choosing a wallpaper. However, Root Explorer and other third party media apps do show up on my Galaxy S3...I guess Sense limits the use of the third party alternatives.

That's weird. I can see them with my Incredible. Why would they take that feature out?
Edit: are you sure you aren't in the camera section of the gallery already? You can't use back to see folders or find a way to bring up a menu? If you have facebook set up, you should be able to access facebook photos from the gallery as well (unless they also took this away). If you can't see anything but camera shots, there's probably a menu you aren't finding...

I guess HTC wanted people to use their stock apps exclusively.
There is only one album named 'My Phone', which contains the pictures taken by the camera and screenshot, but not imported pictures anywhere in the SD storage
Yep, my phone picks and chooses which photos in the download folder it will show. If I import from Box, it won't show but if I import from Dropbox, it will... Annoying and weird.

I was having the same issue. except i keep all my wallpaper images in the zedge\wallpaper folder so that my wallpaper changer has one directory to pull from. when i transferred them from my old phone's SD card to the DNA they showed up but then when i went to add some more images they would not show up since the gallery doesn't automatically rescan to find new photos when it opens.
i did download the Gallery Refresh app as stated above and it worked perfectly in making the gallery rescan the storage for new images. Thanks CISGS. much appreciated

Hi,
It didn't happened on my device, may I know which path you put 1080p wallpapers?
Is under \Internal storage\DCIM\100MEDIA\ ??
Thanks.
I don't like to use albums. I much prefer to have a folder hierarchy that I can copy from one device to another and use it straight away. Folders work perfectly for this, but are not supported by the default Gallery app that comes with my Note 2. To make things worse - this app shows a list of Albums that I never created showing pictures I don't care about (e.g. album artwork etc).
To complete the rant, I also prefer to use folders for sorting my music and ebooks and never considered an iPod or a Kindle for their lack of support for this simple concept.
Is there an alternative picture viewer app that is centered on the concept of folders?
Solved: JustPictures does what I need
QuickPic is also great. It has a Folders view as well as a Moments view (which shows you pictures grouped by months).

I just started using this a month ago because the new ROM I flashed was unable to play animated gifs. I swear by this app now.
The only problem I have with QuickPic is that it doesn't play nice with Rotation Manager (which is one of my favorite applications). The issue is that it doesn't fill the screen with the pictures unless I disable Rotation Manager. JustPictures is nice, but it doesn't support this functionality at all. It seems F-Stop Media Gallery is the way to go. The free version doesn't support nested folders (unlike JustPictures), but I may pay a few bucks to get this feature. I need to use this app for a longer period to see that it works well otherwise. My initial impression is very positive.
