All u have to do is use streakmod recovery or clockwork recovery. Then flash the latest 1.7 to ur phone.

i have rom manager, built my rom, and downloaded it. where does rom manager put it and how do i install via cwm
You may want to do some more reading. With all due respect, if someone took the time to write up how to you might not get it. The how to's in the dev section break it down reallly simply. Im "new" to this stuff and have rooted and flashed multiple phones and roms by FOLLOWING the directions exactly. Never even used rom manager. I used oneclick root method, latest cwm not 3.0, and am enjoying jt's vanilla aosp w nextheme

Hi guys,
My sister has a vibrant which I have rooted for her. Currently shes on stock 2.2. She's been complaining that her phone freezes up on her often so I thought I'd look into installing a custom rom.
I have a fascinate and there are issues with clockwork recovery and rom manager on it..so I'm wondering if the same is true on the vibrant or if its ok to flash clockwork from rom manager.

Not exactly. Stock 2.2 introduced 3e recovery, which can be a *****. Odin back to a stock 2.1 and then install clock work mod. Or search for "3e recovery working like 2e recovery" and follow the steps in that thread.
If you can't get it to work from there, use Super One Click and "shell" root then try again (even if you're already rooted).

+1 this is correct it is just easier to go to stock 2.1 then a custom rom You aviod all the new roadblocks from 3E recovery.... and yes..... it can be a *****

Andro-id is customized version of gingerbread 2.3.4 and is better than gingerbread. And it also comes pre-rooted and is more flexible than official gingerberead.
Just flash a froyo rom for your region/area phone from http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-s5570.htm and flash it using odin one package option. If you have installed any custom recovery like CWM recovery, doing so will replace the custom recovery with stock recovery.
I think Andro-id 3.2 is better than gingerbread. but, cm7 is even more better than andro-id. THe diffrence however is cm7 looks and is completeley diffrent from gingerbread but andro-id looks similar and has similar functions to gingerbread... CM7 is very much customizable comes prerooted and can be overclocked.

Cwm for gts5570 currently doesn't support rfs so you can't backup froyo via cwm at the moment . But yiy can find froyo firmware for your region samfirmware.com download from there and flash using Odin. Where are you from? If you wanting will give the link to download froyo for your Tom. Also include the info you get when you dial *#1234#* in your dialer ( ie PDA version and baseband)

I came from italy
info version:
pda: S5570XIKF1
phone: S5570XXKB2
my question was if I can backup rom stock, because I would try to flash a custom rom (andro-id)... but if something goes wrong, or that rom doesn't like me, how can I go back to the original one?
Try searching for your rom on samfirmware.com . If you are able to find one you can flash it from odin to go back tp stock rom after upgrading to custom rom....

If you don't find try to google for your roms backup ...

Thanks bro U have a thank you from me
I wait for cyanogen final realease because he is still buggy
and one more question .... When i was on cyanogen mod7 for samsung galaxy mini i saw it uses only 50-60mb ram IS THAT REALLY ??!!!!
The ram consumed depend on how many apps and services you install.. May be a clean and fresh boot uses about 60 mb but when you go on installing apps the size increases.

Hi. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to root a Samsung Vibrant running Froyo 2.2 and using a Mac. Thanks.
update: I rooted the phone but when I try to flash a rom and boot into cwm recovery it won't boot..
any ideas why?
I have the superuser app and I did a root check and I am ROOTED. Also does anyone know of any stable Gingerbread roms that work with the Samsung Vibrant. Thanks!
Try using my guide on flashing MIUI (link in signature) which will help you in flashing one of the overall best & stable Gingerbread roms for the vibrant. Easily customizable and updated weekly you should at least give it a shot.
However, instead of using Odin use Heimdall which is compatible with Mac.
t's been awhile since my last upgrade, my X10a is still on 2.1-update1 firmware, baseband 2.1.54, kernel version 2.6.29 with build number 2.1.A.0.435
How to flash to latest 2.3 ?
You can upgrade to gingerbread with with pc companion..
but stock 2.3 from SE is very laggy & slow so install a custom gingerbread rom like Wolfs TW Gingerbread v7
Wolfs TW Gingerbread v7 is a very god rom. it has no bugs, no fcs its very smooth
I do want a custom rom, but can I just flash thru recovery? Given that I'm already rooted.
Yes, flash thru xRecovery

No, you need the baseband 71 as well and that needs flashtool....
Read the OP to any custom rom you want to flash.
Or, use pccompanion to upgrade to stock 2.3 then whilst you are there you can use flashtool to
a) root
b) ask root permissions
c) Install xrecovery (0.3 GB ready)
d) Unlock bootloader (Optional step)
then flash the rom of your choice...

I didn't have any lag on the stock 2.3.3 when I used it for a few weeks, about half unrooted, then rooted, and no lag either way. If you have 2.3.3 and lag check your running programs. Our phones are computers now so just like with a pc if you have too much in the background everything gets slow. When I was on stock 2.3.3 my phone was new so I was installing ALL sorts of things finding out what I liked but I always checked settings and permissions of things I was trying out. Bottom line you shouldn't have lag on 2.3.3.
