Does the new AT&T 2.2 ROM connect to AT&T wifi hotspots? If so, can it be used to modify DJ Steve's to access AT&T wifi hotspots too?

I had a rooted and custom rom captivate. It worked at at all AT&T sites.
I have yet to try this Streak yet, I think it is by the data account not the OS.
Does not work in 2.2 ROM. I suspect it is a software related issue as my previous phone (BlackBerry Storm) worked fine (I was on the same account).

Hi
Been digging around for a bit on here and google.
Do any of the Froyo roms for Hero have the new wifi hotspot feature. Thats what I would use most. Have installed one but does not appear to be in there.
I'm not sure if any of the ROMs have it built in (I'm still on 2.1), but you can use an app like android-wifi-tether or aNetShare to get it done.
Have been using Wifi Tether, but on VillainRom 12 the encryption does not work. Have installed that on the Froyo rom now and encryption works, so must be an issue with the 2.1 Rom I had on phone.
Bump!
Any new roms that support wifi hotspot?
Most the Rom's I have used have been rooted, and I have effectively used Wireless tether for Root (Android Market)

yes tehre is, use something like netshare.. but it needs you to be rooted.. I don't know weather it works in every rom's or not..
I just rooted and couldnt get Barnacle or the other Wifi tether app to work. After some googling I saw that there's an issue with the Vibrant and tethering. Any known working wifi tether apps working? If not, what can I do? Install a custom ROM?
Mobile AP works just fine for me
Im using the standard ROM and don't see the mobile AP option. In the market I just see a mobile AP shortcut that doesnt do anything but warn me it doesnt work on my phone.
By "standard rom" I take it you mean TouchMyWiz, but what version are you running?
I'm pretty sure this will work for you no matter which 2.1 rom you are using.
Mobile AP App Fixed to Work on Samsung Vibrant
i've been running barnacle tether for the past week to run my ipod with little to no issues as long as i have a decent 3g signal on my phone.
I was having this issue with Wireless Tether for Root Users whenever I tried downloading form the market or any repository.
I ended up downloading the apk for the Facinate from the android-wifi-tether google code page and after a couple tries it worked fine for me on Obsidian V4.2.
I have an unrooted Asus Transformer running stock 3.1 and I'm trying to connect to the internet in any way I can through my Samsung Fascinate. My fascinate is rooted and running MIUI 1.7.1.3 with the 2.6.35.7-otb-cfs-fascinatemtd+ kernel.
I have tried the built in hotspot mode, Wireless Tether for Root Users (several variations of 2.0.7 and 3.0 and 3.1), Barnicle. I've tried wifi, BT and USB tethering and nothing works. The closest I get is witht he built in hotspot and Wifi Tether, both of which I can get it to see my fascinate but it gets hung up on "obtaining an IP..." Barnicle didn't work at all because I couldn't get infrastructure mode, only ad hoc. I can't use Wireless Tether with BT because for some reason this option is greyed out. I've also tried going legit and paying though VZW but that didn't work.
I've read the thread about reprovisioning my fascinate with qpst or something but can't figure out how to do it. I have a feeling my biggest problem is MIUI or my kernel. Can anyone suggest a kernel and/or ROM for my Fascinate that will allow me to sucesfully tethter?
Any other than the muiu or cm7 mtg builds should work. Those builds are very different from our source built stuff.

+1 same problem and want to tether. Running JT's Cyanogen 7 rom for Fascinate and trying to thether with a tablet. Thanks!
Thanks, I loaded the latest Evil Fascination froyo ROM and I've got infrastructure mode working with wifi tether and my unrooted tablet can get on the internet now.

Anybody having this issue with 2.11.605.0 based roms? I am currently running the bamf 2.3 side project based off of 2.11.605.0, and when I try to turn on mobile hotspot, it says that "If you would like to subscribe to Mobile Hotspot/Mobil Broadband Connect, call: phone numbers".
Is there an older version that I can try to install?
Thanks in advance
It's probably the stock version of the hotspot, which, in this case checks with VZW to make sure you have a tethering option in your wireless account. It's been like that since the MR2 update I believe.
As far as the old working one, I'm not sure how to get it.
I have a rooted / unlocked i717 that I recently flashed to the T-Mobile rom and ICS Blaze modem outlined in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30335211
Everything went fine and overall I've been happy except for my phone works a little slower and my battery discharges slightly faster. I noticed today however that I cannot use my phone as a hotspot with the Wi-Fi hotspot tool enabled nor FoxFi. I can see the access point, it will ask for a key, but never connect. When I was using stock AT&T GB before (on T-Mobile as well), I was always successful with FoxFi. It worked well.
Is this an issue with using a T-Mobile rom on my i717? Should I change my rom to the AT&T official ICS and then flash the blaze modem or is it time to visit a custom rom? I use my phone heavily for work, so I don't want to experiment with anything JB at this time. I need something rock steady. I wanted to add that I needed to move from the stock GB because I was getting a annoying reboot issue monthly that made me reset/reload the phone each time. Thanks!

Enter that code into the dialer and turn off "wifi sleep"...
It may just fix your issue ..g

Nope, no luck there. I did notice that under FoxFI, the SSID no longer appeared to my laptop after entering that code. I have noticed that the T-Mobile Tethering and Portable Hotspot tool that is part of the rom does allow my laptop to connect to it but I don't get an IP address. I've been searching around and I have yet to find anyone with a similar issue. I'd hate to go back to GB at this point, but I may have to this weekend if there is no answer as I have a business trip next week
Thanks for your help though!
I did some more reading with some similar issues with the GSII and read about a app called "Wireless Tether for Root Users".

It works great so far. I am relieved.
