I'm running Super Clean 2.6 (haven't had a chance to try 2.8 yet). No problems, but a question. Suppose I want to turn off the ad blocking that's part of SC; do I just edit the hosts file and remove everything except localhost? Or is there anything else in there that needs to stay?

i did the ota update and then i installed tnt lite 4.4, then downloaded tb from the market place and did the steps to fix market....questions i have are:
1.) how can you tell if you fixed the market? is there something i should notice after doing it? (i seen the ! or w/e and powerd down and reboot when is seen that).
2.) with tnt lite 4.4 do i need to install flash or is that included in the install script (already does it itself)
3.) did it make a difference if i downloaded tb from market place before doing the fix or should ignore that and side load it like i see in some of the directions.
4.) do i need to worry about losing angery birds or anything like that if i do any of these fixes? or is there a way to back up your apps?
anyone?
anyone else have the same questions and already figured them out?

You can find things in the market you couldn't find before... for example, Dolphin Browser.

I believe it was in the install...

I downloaded it before the fix. Worked fine.

If you did the factory data reset, that probably blew away some of your apps, like angry birds. Just redownload them from the market.
I've got annoying problem with my X+. Im trying to install a 20MB apk file but it fails with the error out of space. There's plenty of space left (around 40GB) and I have had no problems insalling even larger apk files.
Im running stock rom, rooted, busybox installed and custom recovery. I've cleaned all cache (except dalvik-cache). The APK file is being installed from the phone itself, not via google play. My guess it has something to do with the temporary files this APK file is creating, so is there something I can do, like edit init.rc or something like that. Custom ROMs are out of the question as Im very happy with the stock.

Problem was with the existing odex file

Google search lucky patcher it will clean out the unnecessary files that cause this problem.

Is there a way to do this without pulling a file and gutting it? I would like a flasheable or installable APK.
Are you rooted? What rom are you running?
Yes. Anthrax kernel, fully stock otherwise.
If you install Leedroid Tweaks, there is an option to remove.
Thanks I saw that but was under the impression it was only for GB. I dug further and found the main thread.
Installed 4.3.1 but that caused systemui.apk and something else to break continuously (cleared cache before though).
Hi,
I have just installed Jellybam 3.3.0 on an SGH I777. It is working well so far but I have some performance/compatibility questions.
I generally install a) , b) and c) below and am having some problems and would appreciate any help.
a)System Tuner Pro for cpu usage analysis, freezing persistent trivial tasks, and tweaks for sysctl, build, memory,
sd cache and cpu speed settings. Sysctl and built will not load and the other analysis/tweaks either dont work or cause a Jellybam level reboot
b) Android Assistant used for quick crosschecks on memory, etc. Many of the non realtime functions work ie App2SD.etc
yet the monitor processes intermittently dont work and even cause JellyBam level reboot.
c) Adaway always causes a Jellybam level reboot.
Any insights appreciated.
Thanks
I'm not sure regarding 1 and 2, as I don't use those apps. As far as adaway goes, it's working fine for me on Jellybam 3.2. Have you had it running on prior versions of jellybam and it quit after updating to 3.3?

This is my first use of Jellybam. Since I wrote my first post, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adaway NG, and installed and tested
Adfree, and Adblocker also NG. I then installed AdblockPlus and it failed immediately but after Jellybam restarted, it requested su
permission and now seems to be working??? Maybe a permission issue or file relocation issue?

I'd have to guess you have some setting or app somewhere that is conflicting with adblockers, or you have a bad download of JellyBam (I'd suspect that's unlikely as I think you'd see other odd behaviors as well). I just updated to 3.3.0 (needed to switch back to stock kernel anyway) and just updated adaway with no problems (it was already installed - just did cache/dalvik wipe for the update) and it's working normally.
Sorry I don't have any other suggestions...good luck.

Just to point out, JellyBAM has it's own adblocking by way of the hosts file. This could be causing conflict with adblocking apps. Not sure you'd need to double up like that. If you prefer to use an app i'd suggest swapping out the hosts file for a blank one. Essentially choose one or the other.
just my $.02

Hadn't thought of that... I was under the impression that the ad blockers just over wrote the host file with their stuff anyway... Guess I was wrong. Thanks for the info.

Actually this is exactly what happens
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
My HTC One is rooted and I have Adaway and Adfree installed. I generally install both on all of my devices and run them side-by-side, even though it might be redundant/overkill.
On my One, ads will spontaneously stop being blocked. I'll see them in apps all of a sudden or somewhere else. When I open Adaway and tap the update button, the One reboots without prompt. When it comes back up, I'm able to update Adaway and ads are blocked again.Rinse and repeat a few days later. Ad blocking works for a while, then this happens all over again.
I haven't tried removing Adaway yet, but it seems to be the cause of the problem. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? What are you using to block ads on your One?
Yea, I'd say big overkill on the adblocking. I just use Adaway, it works perfect for me.
I would go to both programs and set things as default, uninstall both programs, clear cache and wipe dalvik. Install only one program, update from there and see how things go from there.

I could accept the fact that using both Adfree and Adaway together was the issue if I didn't have the same exact setup on my Nexus 10, Galaxy S4, Note 2, and Optimus G Pro with no issues whatsoever. I'm only having this issue on the HTC One and the fact that it reboots the phone when I launch Adaway makes me think it has something to do with that program.
I will try removing Adfree and see what happens.
Phone reboots because the stock kernel write protects the system partition and when the app attempts to remount it RW it blows up. There are kernel mods and ROMs that can bypass the write protection.
I explained how to make AdAway work without kernel mod in this thread (you need custom recovery however). Symlinking the hosts file to another partition is the suggestion from AdAway help section

So Adaway is the issue? What about Adfree? Does it work normally? ABP?

No, they all use the hosts file method to block advertiser hosts. This file is located in the write protected /system partition (at least for S-On devices) and changes are lost after reboot. The symlink method (linking to a writable partition) may also work with Adfree or ABP, however what definitely works is flashing the modified hosts file via recovery. Both methods listed here
Why does HTC have to be so much more difficult than everyone else? First, there's S-Off, something you don't need on Samsung, LG, etc devices, and now this? Love my One, but I hate having to do a workaround for something that works so easily on all of my other devices.
