I just rooted for my first time. I flashed CM7 and used rom manager to backup, does it take long to restore a backed up rom? And must I wipe before restoring?

not too long, depends on the size of the backup.

Thanks man

I've restored after wiping and then it takes a long time to boot I turned it on, and it stayed in the mytouch logo for a long time

yes it may take some time, and yes full wipe/wipe cache/wipe delvik are things you need to do. As stated with flashing most custom roms formatting boot, system and sdcard are good ideas too
Thanks a lot guys I appreciate it

So I have tried a bunch of kernels and they all either hang at boot or shortly after. I'd everyone having this issue? I know some are having re-boots. I am stock rooted. Frozen bloat.

What kernels are you using? As long as your using Froyo kernels they should work. Wipe cache, wipe dalvic, and flash. I haven't had any kernel issues really. Make sure you flash in recovery!
Need alittle more info. What exactly did you freeze
I'm using Imoseyon's lean kernal and am not having reboot issues. Stock rooted here. Like Smallsz129 is inferring, it may have something to do with what you froze.
Imoseyon has the best kernels. Get his lean edition and unlock 184mhz, it will save a lot if battery.

How do you unlock the 184? I'm running his lean on extreme.

It is in the terminal. You have to type:
Su
Speedway.sh
And the look at he options. It should be either 6 or 7.
Make sure you install the right kernel though.
Also, if you are running the extreme version, make sure you run a stress test through setcpu to make sure it doesn't crash. I know that my phone on extreme will crash on 1.4 ghz, but it will run fine on 1.2ghz.

wifi is broke and my data is stuck on 1X only now after doing advanced restore-->reboot only.
I just froze bloat. I have tried a few kernels though... Keep freezing on tb boot screen. Not sure why. I must be doing something wrong. I oc all my phone fine, but not this one.

Do you do the full reboot after each one?
Is it easy to go back to cm7 from cm9? Or no?

Just wipe and flash CM7 or your CM7 nandroid backup.
Easy to go back and forth between any ROM's. I have 4 different ROM's backed up that I go back and forth between.
it' svery easy. In recovery you have to wipe system, cache and dlavik and then you have to flash new rom from zip file
I suggest a full fast boot wipe , just be in the safe side
You could use the fast boot script found in the dev section to fully wipe
I found it useful when switching from cm7, motor blur and cm9
Also keep in mind you could lose the pds config between flashes
I
=)
Right... thanks !!
I always do a nandroid right before updating, if I don't like the rom or something goes wrong I can revert to my last rom from cwm.
Alright, we will start with a story - I am a fairly experienced root user. I had a fascinate, droid x, and now I have a thunderbolt. I had all three rooted and never had problems until now.
I have root access as well as a custom ROM on my thunderbolt. (I am currently using liquid 3.2).
The problem is that when I try to flash any other rom (I tried two: CM7.2 by ThunderShed and Infected by Virus) they do not work at all. I flash data, davik, and all that stuff. Infected gets stuck on HTC logo and CM7 gets further but freezes on startup after initial setup shows up.
My friend recomended flashing all different radios and I did that, but still having an issue. (I have 1.48.... and 0.0178... on now).
A few things.....check the md5 when you download. Wiping........wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache, then go advanced and wipe dalvik cache, then go format/mount and format /system. Then install the .zip. If that doesn't do it, I have no idea, never had a problem flashing ROMs, only have problems once I start messing with them on my own.
I had to change to different recovery

First, the roms do flash - just not boot up after. Both go through the process fairly well. Like I said - the only that actually works is Liquid 3.2, both Infected and CM 7.2 flash just get stuck at a different stage when booting up.
I'm going to download yet another rom and see whether that does it.
The recovery that I have is 5.0.2.1. I was going to install touch recovery and see if that was more reliable. I'll post later and see whether it was just the two roms possibly being bad (both downloaded from RootzWiki and not XDA).
Run superwipe after you wipe everything, then flash your rom.

Try flashing a stock kernel first.
I also had the droid, droidX, droidx2, incredible2, thunderbolt, and now the galaxy tab. Also fairly familiar with rooting and flashing, and I had the same problem and couldn't figure it out. My clockwork was out of date. Updated, and everything was right in the world again. Check your Recovery. I didn't think if the update during flash took that it was my recovery but I was wrong.
flashing problem...
did you make sure usb debugging is on, and allow mock locations and non market downloads, and try deleting the current infected rom and re-download it just to make sure it was a clean download...i love the infected roms, especially eternity with darkhorsetheme. if that doesn't do it idk man. best of luck and try to get a hold of a developer maybe
Thank you guys!
Alright, so first off - I made sure my recovery was up to date.
I did wipe format /system and that caused infected to load, but after about an hour of using it - it froze and then when I pulled the battery, it wouldn't go past HTC logo.
I did load CM 7.1 and that works well.
I'll keep digging at it and see if I can figure it out. Thank you everyone!
Did you ever find a solution? I am having the same problem. I have tried 3 roms. It starts the boot screen and then after a minute it reboots into recovery.
It's the recovery folks.
Cwm = fail
4ext = win

Using super wipe fixed this issue for me. Even after triple wiping dalvik didn't work, super wipe did. :good:
I was cruising around the development forums today, curious if any ICS ROMs had been updated and were worth using.
I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1635824
Reading the posts of success in the thread and finding my self wanting to flash this more and more, i finally gave in and flashed. I went through the FlashGUI app to get the kernel working, then i recovery'd to flash the .zip. Now im stuck in a boot loop, it goes from the "htc" screen to "android", shows a black screen and the status bar at the top, then reboots again. The reboot is fast like a hot boot. What should I do to fix this? Thank you, I'm new to posting but i've been looking around here for awhile
Also, if it mattered, i have team win recovery and s-off Hboot 1.5 using the Htc Unlocker. Thank you!!
EDIT: I'm S-ON, not S-OFF. My mistake!
I have s-off and came from 2.17 firmware. All I did was wipe and flash the rom. Working just Fine. Uf ur s-off I would just re flash a stock firmware, factory reset and flash rom again
Edit read your edit......sorry

Ok I would reflash the Rom you was using before and the kernel oh you need to super wipe also and since your s off you don't need to use the g u i app thats for the ones that are not s off you can flash just like everyone else that's has s off meaning just use your custom recovery and make sure to wipe ceche and wipe delvik ceche and wipe battery stats format system and format data and wipe boot IMG and format all partitions except sd card when this is done press back and back again and you should see your download folder now you can flash your Rom and if you want you can flash a different kernel besides the one that can with you Rom I hope this helps

Well in that case continue to use the g u i app

sent from my EVO 3D x515m s off using xda premium
and did you back up before hand? u need always to have a good backup any time u are flashing. i keep the last two on my sd card. that way if one gives me a problem which has happened like md5 not matching i have a second one to try
hey all,
First of all, just wanted to say that this community here is really awesome, the roms and instruction on here are second to none!
anywho... i got a issue with the viper rom, so heres the scoop....
i was running scotts coolrom pro with a kernel that (allegedly) overclocked the cpu to 1.8 ghz (a Governor app said it was runnin at 1.8 but i really didnt notice a difference) then i saw the viper rom and i flashed it (Im S-off). so after i flashed it, it worked perfectly, and i gotta say this rom is really impressive. so i went to mess around in the viper tweaks and when i changed the lock screen from the stock one (with the ring) to the ASOP, and prompted me to do a quick restart....and it went into a bootloop (HTC ONE white screen) so i wiped/reflashed and did a few other things...and if it said it needed a quick restore, it would go into a bootloop.
any ideas?? i really want to run this rom, its flippen sweet.
What's the few other things you did? I don't see why a full wipe and re flash wouldn't work. Did you try to restore a nandroid backup first?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
well... i was trying to pin point the problem so i tried a few different tweaks... like over scroll glow color or enable/disable cube animation... and what ever the tweak is.... if a got to do a quick reboot... i get boot loops... but if just want to reboot the rosie or the status bar... no issues at all. lol so for what ever reason if tweaks is asking me to do a quick reboot.......BOOT LOOP.
And just to clarify
when i say boot loops.... i mean it just stays stuck on the HTC ONE screen....just.....stuck.......
