[Q] remove verizon OTA update notification - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I have a samsung fascinate with voodoo+root. Now verizon is sending OTA update continously. I always choose to delay for 23 hours, but it is annoying. Is there any way to remove this update notification permanantly, without having to unvoodoo and unroot?
I tried searching but I dont think there is a post that answeres it.
thanks all

This belongs in Q&A.

You haven't given us enough information to answer your question. What ROM are you running? I ask because, for example, Superclean has the OTA updates removed already.
And yeah, who would have thought a question would go in the question and answer section?

Just use root explorer to remove the apk associated with updating. Can't believe I can't remember which apk it is though.

[Q] Question about Unrooting and OTA updates.

Hello everyone,
I have a noob question about OTA updates after unrooting my Tab 10.1 Wifi.
After Samsung fixed the 3.2 update I updated my Tab not thinking that it was rooted. I don't necessarily care about loosing root as I really don't use it all that much. After the update it was acting strange and being really sluggish with certain things so I figured I would flash it back to stock and unroot the device and update from there. Well I used CWM to flash back the stock 3.1 ROM and then Odin to put the stock recovery back on. All went well with this and as soon as I rebooted I got the first update which was the to the market for movies. After it updates to that it stops. It's been sitting here for a couple days now without being able to update any further to TouchWiz or to 3.2. Is there something I missed that would prevent me from updating further when unrooting or am I just going to have to wait a really long time to update again?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
Cody

[Q] Tbolt Update question

I had a quick question about the new Tbolt update. I rooted my tBolt shortly after the last OTA update was pushed. This is the first update to come through since rooting and I was wondering what I needed to do to install the update. When I was looking into rooting I believe I had read that many times the formal updates are often leaked before hand anyways. Do I need to find a root version of the update somewhere (if so where would that be at?) or do I have to un-root to install it, or can I simply install it while rooted (I'm assuming this will encounter some errors). Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else already. I did look around and did not see anything answering this question. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks
If u download the update u WILL LOOSE ROOT.. give the dev time to root the update

How to get rid of OTA update without installing it?

A bit of a nooby question, but I've never come across it or had to do it before.
I know I could flash a custom ROM but nothing quite stands out just yet, waiting for S3 USA release. There should be a lot more action on the ROM side then.
But at the moment I'm on stock, rooted and woke up with an update on my phone yesterday. From what I've read there's 2 updates 1 after the other and 1's a new kernel. I'd rather not update and root again if there's a simple way of removing the update e.g. like say delete a file from somewhere. After all my phone's running 100% as is.
Anyone know the answer? Its bugging me now, you can only perspone it for 3 hours at a time.
If I don't get rid of it by tomorrow I'm going to reaserch if i can just update over a rooted stock ROM. Find out about the new kernel build make sure I can root after updating and reluctantly update.
Thanks in advance
Marc

I just used titanium backup to delete the updater. Seems to be working fine for now.

ICS Update Un Rooted My Phone... Quick ?

Hopefully I posted this in the right forum, If not please move it!
Ok, So I updated my phone via Kies and got the official ICS update (Finally) for my AT&T Galaxy Note, Problem is, as expected... it unrooted my phone and I'd like it rooted again, I want to keep the new official stock ICS rom and just want it rooted again to delete all that garbage bloatware to keep my phone sharp, any help?
Do i just re-root it doing it the same way I did before?
Will it ruin my new ICS rom?
Can anyone link me to the files that will root my phone but keep the ICS Stock Rom?
I didnt have a single problem Rooting it the first time on ginerbread, but Im not sure what will happen with a different official rom installed. Just dont wanna have to reinstall ICS again or something, when I just spent about an hour setting it back to how I had everything, then remembered updating unrooted me.
Any advice or help is really appreciated!
Thanks!
Not really in right section more like a Q&A section.
However the devs need a little time to sort through all the code but these guys are smart and root will come soon and they will proudly announce it. Just enjoy for now.

I just odined the cwm .tar and then flashed the superuser .zip (both can be found in the general section, just do a search) and I'm rooted on the official update.

My links....look for gnote page...
ok so just do odin again liek i did before?
And I hope im not asking too much, but can anyone link me to the files I need directly? The last ones I used was from a source outside of XDA (xda was down for maintenance) and I think it gave me a virus on my computer and after doign a system restore today i dont wanna do that again lol. so if its not a problem can someone link me to the right files i need?
Thanks everyone!
Yes.
Now look one post above your last one.
To see the links Mr. Joe is referencing you need to be on a pc.
To install CWM you need to be on a pc.
To root you need a pc.
Mr.Joe would only post trusted links.

I successfully updated my Note to ICS yesterday and want to root it again as well. I looked through the Note section in BigJoe's thread, but can't figure out exactly what files I need. I rooted it with Gingerbread without issue. I've looked through the unlocking/rooting section and the one thread that explains how to root specifically says that the method will NOT work with the official ICS update.
Sorry to sound so dense, but could someone link exactly which files I/we need to root the official ICS via Odin?
What you asked for is in the third post.

ps that odin3 file doesnt work just gives a random script window then force closes

[Q] Verizon STILL sending OTA updates to my Note II after SafeRoot

Hello all!
Thanks for the great info.
I was able to install saferoot and get my phone back to some semblence of usefullness after my phone took the I605VRUEMJ9 update, without my permission nonetheless, but now that I have it rooted, I need to stop them from doing any more updates unless someone here says it's safe and that it won't remove my root!
Can anyone advise how I can stop the update that's currently prompting me to install it and prevent them from installing in the future?
Thanks for all the help here!!

Thanks for the info. I was able to disable the google framework items and renamed the update.zip file, but I cannot find the com.lge.lgfota.permission? I installed the root browser and used it to do a search, but all it did was sit there for hours saying sorting and never found it. I am running a backup with Titanium now. Can someone tell me what SDM is and how to disable it as I read above that I needed to do that?
One more thing, my Note II is now asking fo an unlock code and I can't figure out how to remove it? Is that something that comes with the FoxFi app? I had it before I took the I605VRUEMJ9 update and it never asked for an unlock code.
I am SOOO SICK of Verizon screwing with MY equipment!!
Is this update going to screw with my partial root since I already took the I605VRUEMJ9 update? If not, I'll just let it do it and get rid of it and hopefully the changes I made will stop the next one that tries to download? Yes, No??
Thanks again for all your help here!
