ok i had a xperia x10 and it went for a swim. the sim and sd card are ok as they are now running in my galaxy s (couldnt get another x10). i did a backup using the sony ericsson backup and restore software. tried loading it on the galaxy (the apk file was on the memory card) but no joy. i have found the backup i made and all i am really after is the contacts. any help would be appreciated!
How big is the apk? Did it save the backup as an apk file or is the apk the software itself to restore the data? I suggest syncing contacts with google next time so this won't really be an issue but if you can give me some info (I'm unfamiliar with the backup tool you used) I might be able to help.
i used the sony ericsson backup utility when i went from 1.6 to 2.1 (the one you get from the sony ericsson update service). the backup file is a .sbf and i tried running the .apk file on the galaxy but it didnt load

it definately will NOT run on any phone other than a SE phone. your only hope is to find someone else with an x10, pop your sd card in their phone, restore the files to their phone and then sync with google. the joys of using proprietry software. another reason why se are jokes. sorry man, but its not looking too good.
luck one of the girls at work has a x10. i was hoping a developer might see it as a challange!

Hi,
I have just updated my x10 mini to the lastest version of Android.
I followed Sony Erricson's advice and used 'backup&restore' to save all my data before updating.
However when I restore my data everyone works except all my contacts. I really need these numbers as I don't have another copy of most of them.
After some googling it looks like im not the only one with this problem, im guessing backups made in 1.6 are not readable in 2.1 or something. Very anoying, you'd think that would have been tested...
So, I have been trying to downgrade my phone back to 1.6 so I can restore from there but am having problems.
I have tried two different guides using two different programs but both have just stopped in error while flashing. Flash tool said I should check settings for debugging and unknown sources but these are ok and it still stops.
Can anyone help me?
Or does anyone know a way of opening the backup file (a *.sbf file) so I can get my numbers out of it and put them back on my phone manually?
Thanks in advance.
I have used Sony PC Companion 2.1 to update my phone to 2.3.4-4.0.2.A.0.62 and i got a warn message about my Contacts, Calendar and Messages, i backed them up but it didn't warn me about when i update i will have no APP!! So after update phone started like i bought a new one! And all apps on SD Card were gone, but memory on SD card is still used. Is there any way that i get them back without installing them again(because i have them a lot and my market isn't downloading after a 3-4 apps installed :O) that is a problem too! HELP PLEASE! Thanks

There is no other way, if you haven't made backups.

Nope,no way to recover it except you accidentally delete it manually, recover it back using Recuva...
Try to use Recuva to check deleted file, who know you might found it and recover it back

been there done that buddy.
just remember, everytime you update a new rom or flash a new rom, always make a backup of your apps using titanium backup recommended (need root) because it said it will wipe phone memory data which means it will delete your google market account therefore, your downloaded apps will be lost.
nothing we can do here

Recuva can't access Android root at all.
To Izzy - That's the problem with trying to root .62/.69 via downgrading method
Ok, thanks for help
Hello,
I see this for ICS users today: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...+your+device+and+confirm+the+backup+operation
Anyone has tried it on Xperia S or Xperia 2012 phone?
I' d like to backup apps data before downgrading to Gingerbread and upgrading on a rooted ICS!
For me, when I try to backup it says: "Now unlock your device and confirm the backup operation", nothing appears on my Xperia S and the backup file is 0 octets...... ;-(.
Could some one help me?
Or, if someone has a great idea on how backup apps data without root, your welcome.
Thanks a lot.

where do I get this app for my AT&T Sony Xperia Ion ?
Well, I cant use the stock backup and restore app, since it always fails to backup, no matter what I choose to backup...
So, any solution to the adb problem?
If not, that's also fine; the main thing is that my settings are saved via PC Companion
I need a bit of help. I update my Xperia Go to ICS after backing it up on Sony's PC Companion. After successfully updating, I tried restoring my stuff, almost everything was there except the sms messages, I can live with the missing apps. But the messages are very important (been moving them since 2009) and in hindsight I know I should have used an app to archive them for restoration later but it slipped my mind.
I've tried several times to restore, backup then restore and still the messages are just not getting into the phone. I opened the backups and saw there is a difference with the way the data for the messages are formatted. GB had them in individual files, ICS seems to be on a single file so transporting the contents of the old conversations to the new one did not do anything.
I was thinking of downgrading the phone to try and restore the sms and then use an app then update and transfer but
1. I couldn't find a gingerbread firmware to return to
2. Flashtool would not work, saying that it could not find the driver (am thinking the Go on ICS needs a different driver) and this was the same one I used to flash it in the first place.
Is there an easier way to move the sms files from the old pc companion backup to phone? or a gingerbread firmware i can go back to/download? and a working flashboot driver too.
Since there isnt a dedicated forum for the Go, I had to post here, sorry if this was a mistake but thank you for any help I can get.

You can download GB firmware here
For drivers, you go to drivers folder inside Flashtool and install it.
Can you please upload FTF file of ICS firmware of Go? I need it badly
Edit: this is a guide how to make FTF file http://mytechencounters.wordpress.c...eate-an-ftf-file-of-your-xperia-ics-firmware/

Thanks, I got the file.
You can download here http://www.4shared.com/file/NDe4G08P/ST27i_611B110_CE.html
It gave the same error about not having the right driver blah blah twice. Then in my pissed off state, I kinda accidentally got it into fast boot i think (blue purple light, up volume) then took it off then put it back on back to try to flash the GB rom, it did!
After checking if the flash was alright, I tried restoring the sms only and it worked. there really is a problem with this that sony has to acknowledge between migrating from GB to ICS...
Time to install that sms app. Thank you
Hello!
Can anyone give me any hints on what is the best option to transfer my data?
I usually have always used TiBackup because i went from rooted phone to rooted phone.
The Z1C is BL unlock and rooted Kitkat Version 14.3.A.0.757. I have played around with Backup and restore and for some reason it fails to make a backup on the Z1C for me although there is enough space in both internal and SD card. It just fails, maybe due to root.
Then I installed PC Companion and tried to backup from there to no avail. It keeps bugging me to update the old phone. Maybe this is why that fails.
Then I tried the direct Transfer Option (phone to phone) which seems to get as far as the phones connection. Then the receiving phone (Z3c) goes into a loop as it supposedly looking for content on the Z1C to select and transfer. This takes ages, so I believe it might fail, although I am still waiting for it.
Is there any program that is capable of creating a backup file on a rooted phone which is completely installable on a non-rooter? Including data and settings etc.?
Has anyone handled this issue before?
I am scared to try and just update the Z1C as the Companion keeps suggesting for losing root on that phone would suck and I am not sure how hard it is to get that back...
I tried adb backup.
It worked reasonably but some issues..
No comparison to titanium backup..

i had good experience using Helium when i transfered my apps&data from my old phone to the z5c. I bought the full version since direct transfers between the devices seemed to very convenient thing for me.
