boot animation loop - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The phone does boot. I just have the animation loop over and over before it boots.
this has been happening for a couple of months. I've wiped and cleared in stock recovery and cwm
Seems like i get another boot animation loop every time i change roms. It loops 13 times now before the phone fully boots. I just odin'ed super clean 2.9.

Try wiping -- with CWM -- all data, cache, Dalvik, everything. Multiple times. If it still loops, maybe try... hm... Odining the DI01 package? Not sure, not a pro on this stuff.

yup i wiped everything numerous times. The superclean 2.9 odin was supposed to wipe all also

Hrm. Well, I know default bootani loops, but not that much, and default SC bootani does not. I'm not sure.
Are you sure you have the right radio and all? Kinda talking outta my ass here, but at least I'm TRYING to help. XD

It does take a lot longer to do the first boot after you wipe everything (I think especially the Dalvik cache). I know that whenever I wipe and install a new ROM, it takes what seems like forever (could be mistaken for a boot loop) to boot up. I have read that it does take a long time to build up the Dalvik cache, so whenever you clear it, the next boot will take a long time.
By the way, what boot animation are you using - the normal honeycomb (XOOM) one that comes with Super Clean? I think that one will loop indefinitely (it does for me when I have those long boots).

I just rebooted it and counted 11 animations. Then I wiped davlik and it went on for 47 times.
Maybe this is normal.
Just seems like everytime I load a new rom I get more animations.

You shouldn't count the number of animations you get, but the time it takes. This is a relatively short animation that comes stock on these ROMs, so it might be a few more cycles than others, but might take the same amount of time.

[Q] Issues with SC2.9.2 and Ultimate Honeycomb v3.1.1

Hi,
I was trying to flash a Ultimate Honeycomb v3.1.1 theme on my VZN Fascinate using CWM, but after flashing and rebooting, it just sits there on the booting screen (flashing honeycomb) while the phone vibrates occasionally. Can someone tell me how to fix this or why it's happening? I didn't have problem flashing gingerbread theme by nitsuj17.
I have SC2.9.2 voodoo/EB01
many thanks,

Download might have been corrupted or you flashed SC and then flashed the theme without rebooting in between.
Thanks jonesya13!
I'm pretty sure I rebooted in between, but I will try to re-download the file and then flash the theme again as you suggested.
This happened to me on both the 3.1 & 3.1.2 with superclean 2.9.2. I booted fully into superclean as well before flashing the theme after a cache/dalvik wipe. Battery pull worked both times. Rebooted normally after that.
Thanks garywojdan81!
I tried to flash with a newer ultimate honeycomb (3.1.2), it flashed without a hitch but I found out that menu & home button didn't work. So I went back to SC2.9.2... I will try battery pull & wiping cache/dalvik then reflash the 3.1.2 theme.

I had the menu and home button problem as well, ended up flashing, I think the EC10 kernal, and it fixed that problem for me.
Thanks jonesya13 and garywojdan81!
I tried reflashing the theme after wiping cache/dalvik - that did the trick!
I have not tried the EC10 kernel yet. So far, I'm satisfied with EB01, so I'll try sticking with it until it causes problems.

xHoLyx,
What might be some advantages of jt's EC10 over regular EB01, in your opinion? I'm not too familiar with kernel replacement, so reading relevant posts might take some time. thx!
I tried 2.2 out a few weeks ago and decided I couldn't live without Voodoo Sound and BLN so I decided to wait it out. Obviously we have these enhancements available for Froyo now, so I made the jump to JT's initial EC10 release.
Everything worked fine, I just didn't feel that "snappiness" I had before. I thought maybe it had something to do with being undervolted (even though only slightly.) I saw that there were some problems with imnuts initial kernals he posted and waited to flash the updated (fixed) link for 0328_imnuts_sv_voodoo.zip. I flashed last night, booted up, and played around for a little bit and everything was working great. I had it plugged in to charge overnight. That brings me to my issue...
I woke up this morning, reached over to turn my phone on and I got NOTHING. No boot, samsung, lights, nada...I thought "****, I really bricked my phone now." I tried booting into recovery using the 3-button combo, plugging it in my computer to try download mode, plugging my charger in different outlets,etc...The phone seemed like there was no sign of life. I was ready to head to Verizon before work then decided to plug in my car charger for ****s and giggles and sure enough...IT WORKED! It started charging and I turned the phone on. Now I am at work and the phone seems to be working just fine...I even have the usb plugged in my computer and it is charging now (The same one that didn't work this morning.) This has never happened to me before and it was pretty scary. I have had to ODIN before, but I was worried that wasn't even an option. Thanks god everything SEEMS to be working fine right now, though that made me a little concerned.
Do anyone have ANY idea what might have happened!? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: After a couple hours, I saw my battery start to wig out. It went from being at like 34% to flashing the "low battery" warning. It then turned off and did the exact same thing. I had to go out to use my car charger to get into recovery. I wiped cache/dalvik cach, and re-installed SC. Not sure if it's kernal/ROM/Theme with 3rd party battery supprt...

Phone stuck on boot screen after upgrading to superclean 2.9.2

I just followed the instructions from this thread. The phone is currently on the honeycomb like boot screen. I know it is supposed to take a while for it to install, but I usually see 10-15 minutes. It is going on well over 20 this time. Is this normal? At what point should I start over?
Edit: It went to 30-40 minutes so I decided to start over. To my surprise it booted up after removing and replacing the battery. I cleared cache and data a few times and reinstalled the rom from CW. This is what I am used to doing on my N1 and it seems to have worked fine on the Fascinate.
Is there anything I might have missed by doing this?
I've had this happen about about every third or fourth time I would wipe cache and dalvik before installing something. I usually wait five minutes and if it was still stuck I would pull the battery. It would be nice though to figure out what was causing it.

ED03 vs ED01? Want to try Evil

My gf has a fascinate, I personally use an X10 so rooting and flashing my phones different. i've only done hers once. the comm romm has been having some fc's for her, and she cant send MMS, it gets stuck in sending, so she wants to try a new rom. I dont read up enough on this forum for her so I would like some common users advice.
First of all whats the advantage of ed01? is it better than ed03?
Is evil as good or better tham comm? she wants a stable rom with all the same features.
Shes on verizon, currently ed03
You might not have to flash another ROM. If you boot into CWM recovery, try wiping data, cache, and Dalvik and rebooting. If that doesn't work, go back to CWM recovery and try fixing permissions (in the advanced menu). Otherwise, you could download Evil Fascination, wipe data, cache, Dalvik and then flash your Evil Fascination download. EF and Comm ROM are both good (not a vast difference between the two), but I'd recommend staying with your ED01 modem for now. I can't speak for everyone, but I've had GPS problems with ED03 and ED04.

[Q] I Cannot flash Eternity

I was running Eternity version 116 for a long time, and decided i should upgrade to a more recent rev. I tried flashing v236 (and 238 and various versions in between) and all appears to go well, I get a message for successfully installing, but on first reboot, I get stuck on the splash screen. While I haven't tried many ROMs, I always wipe first. I am currently running Bamf Forever. But for whatever reason, I just can't get Eternity to load. Any suggestions? Thanks!
If you wiped data first and didn't get a bad download (if you've tried multiple versions, that would be very unlikely) then there really wouldn't be a logical reason for it not to work. All I can tell you is that it takes a long time (5 minutes maybe) to boot up the first time you flash a new ROM, I think it's because it zipaligns your apps. Hope you figure it out, if you find out what the problem was, let me know.
I've let it boot up for hours, but it never gets past the splash screen.
are you wiping data/cache/dalvik

Yes, wiping everything. I don't seem to have a problem installing other ROMs, just Eternity.
disregard. i got 216 to work. i don't know wtf was going on. but i'm happy now.
Glad you got it working. There have been some significant changes since 216 that makes it worth your time to upgrade to R238.
I figured out what the problem was. turns out all i needed to do was update CWM. now all versions flash fine. I was using a 3.0 version of CWM.

[Q] What kind of "loop" do i have? Happens with AOKP devil and glitch ICS and CM10

[Q] What kind of "loop" do i have? Happens with AOKP devil and glitch ICS and CM10
First I know the phone is not bricked. I can and have repeatedly ODINed to stock EH03, remembering to atlas and repartition as per droidstyle's guide. The problems begin when I go through the rest of the guide section 4, to get and ICS AOKP rom running. (This is staging for my question to be complete. Question at bottom.)
For whatever reason the phone was stuck to only boot into (red) recovery. I had the AOKP rom MS6-devil before and I think flashed another different devil kernel over that. The phone has been completely stable for months now. I tried data wipe/reset and wipe cache, and dalvik too. It still only rebooted to red recovery (sorry don't recall the exact version). This is when i decided to ODIN and start fresh.
Maybe some side questions. Is it ok to flash different devil kernels on the devil kernel rom? I assume yes but I just needed to run through my check list. When I ODINed back to stock did that automatically restore the phone to a stock kernel as well?
So the phone ODINs fine every time and ODINing cmw4 for CW7 and GB bootloaders too. (BTW when i flashed ICS rom several month back i dont think the guild had anything about ODINing bootloaders. Is this new?). 3 finger works and I'm in blue recovery 4, i wipe data and dalvik (I've done this more than 5 times some i also tried a cache wipe with same results).
What kind of boot loop is this?
I flash the ICS rom zip that i want and it starts but the status bar on the phone make a small amount of progress then goes black, reboots to the flash the Samsung logo then goes to some splash screen that shows Icy Glitch Kernel V14 if i try the AOKP M6 official, or a splash screen of Devil Kernel if i flash AOKP M6-devil or even with CM10 i see the splash screen of cyanogenmod. If i let the phone sit on the screens for a long while all i see is a continual booting to these splash screens.
I have mucked something up with the kernel and i thought ODIN would reset that each time. If I can know what kind of boot loop i face i can go to find the right threads or make a post in the right place to get this resolved.
Actually it's normal for that to happen, after you start the install it should reboot the phone to an updated recovery and continue the installation from there. At least that's what it did for me when coming from stock. How long did you wait? Are you getting any errors? If you're still using the stock sd card that could be your problem right there. Also, I highly recommend trying a JB rom, ICS is pretty stale at this point. AOKP just released JB Milestone 1
Good tips. I didn't know that's what it should look like. I was flashing for many hours and waited 20-30 minutes. The only happenings on screen were the splash screens flashing occasionally as if the phone were looping. Im guessing now that's normal in the flashing process. I've flashed the same roms before months ago and probably the process on screen I just forgot. Ill try again later when I have time and try some jb action and report back.
When going from stock to ics are you first flashing ths build 2? There are many versions of devil available some are built for ics and aome for jb only. It's important to know which one you are dashing cause the jb devil kernels have a specific partition layout needed to get jb to run on the fascinate. I could be wrong but anything higher than 1.5.xx is jb specific.

You know I think that is it. I just blanked on doing that. I have build 1 and 2, b/c sometimes one works and one doesn't. I think I used 1 this time, but the first time I flashed ics i used build 2. Any way thanks. I am checkin out jb now too. cm10 is working great.
You didn't miss the step (to flash Build2 between EH03 & AOKP/CM10), the step was missing (temporarily) from the guide because some have found it to be unnecessary. I had the same bootloop as you when I didn't go through Build2 on the way to AOKP. Seems like the phone attempts to boot normally rather than into recovery to finish the installation of AOKP/CM10, and can't because it is midway through the installation. So did you state you had the problem when flashing CM10 as well? That's interesting, since some can skip going through Build2 and some can't. I thought maybe AOKP required it and CM10 did not... still trying to figure out what is different between phones that require it and those that don't.
Yeah I had it happen on cm10 too. I tried again but only flashed cm10 and no strange looping like I described. But I didn't flash any build before cm10.
