[Q] Is There a Way to improve Reception? if so how? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is their a way to mod your fascinate to get a better signal/reception. Im always stuck at 1-2 bars where I live and around 90 dbm, Internet speeds on fascinate are always slow. I can never watch a video on youtube app in HQ because of so many pauses. Web pages take forever to load.

get a signal repeater/amplifier. if you call verizon and complain enough, they sometimes will offer you one.

[Q] Any Atrix users in NYC? How's your service?

Was curious if there are other NYC Atrix users out there and how you've been finding your service. I get terrible service in my office and coming from a blackberry on ATT that never happened before. I sit with below full bars pretty much constantly most of the places I am. Also, my speeds are pathetic, never seen above 1500kbps down speed test. Was curious if maybe something was up with my device itself...
anyone else out there have similar experiences, how are your speeds in NYC?

I'm sorry you're having those issues i'm in lower Manhattan and my service has never been better. However, take that with a grain of salt since i'm coming from an iphone 4. But my data sessions have yet to timeout like they used to on my iphone 4, no dropped calls...yet and reception is a little better. Even with 1 bar of service where my iphone wouldn't connect to 3G the atrix open pages really fast. I was on 42nd St on the west side last night and my gf iphone kept losing service and slow data speeds while my atrix was downloading and opening pages perfectly. My speed test have been getting better i have been able to hit 2500-3100kbps in lower Manhattan which is not too bad considering they haven't officially launched 4G in NYC, with the exception of the capped upload speeds which only get 200kbps.
I'm actually happy to hear you are getting better speeds then me. I'm in midtown east and cant see the service being any "worse" up here. Maybe it is the device...curious to see what others have to see
My voice calls are great, but I am also getting crappy speeds in Union Square area. I noticed that if I switch SpeedTest server to NJ, I get much better speed than NYC server lol
Same results as you Northern Queens , All of Nassau up to Huntington. I got the highest today in Port Washington. 1.8 down.
Calls Are fine like my pal just said.
I'm in mid to eastern long island and I'm getting around 1.5-2 meg down and never more then 400kbs up on the speedtest.net app. This is coming from my Aria on CM6.1 which was getting over 3 meg down and like 1.5-2.5 up on average. I'm hoping once at&t starts rolling some better speeds like they are promising things will get better. I had to admit, though. Other than when actually doing speed tests... i don't notice the difference. Pages and other things still load fast. So I can't really nit-pick the numbers when in all reality the difference isn't really noticable. As far as phone service goes, I've been loving the Atrix. I get about the same bars I use to with the Aria, which is more than I use to get with the iPhone 4 I had before it. Call quality on the Atrix is amazing, though. The phone speaker and speakerphone are both very clear and vibrant sounding.
Excellent question. I have been so pissed at my friends and clients with no reception on their iphones that I pretty much vowed never to go with at&t, until the atrix came out. Sounds so far that the atrix is working better than the iphone but can't wait to hear more from owners. Thanks for the NYC question.

I have gotten .08 k upload. but again, It may be the latency of the test. I don't feel as if im getting that i upload pictures instantly. and send emails instantly. I those numbers where real this would not be happening.I don't think at least
I have had sub100 at school and at home. School = Queens, home = Nassau. Nassau has the worst speeds. With iPhone 3G it was faster (not with speed test, just opinion), idk why.
I am in lower manhattan (water st) and I cant seem to get better than 600KB on down and 200KB up.. Dunno whats wrong with it ( had 3 bars)
I live in NYC. My Motorola Atrix shows 3 or 4 bars and suddenly drops to 1 or no service for a second and goes back up to 3 or 4 bars.
I live in NYC and never had this problem with my Samsung Captivate. Most of the time the phone does not even show the full 5 bars, mostly 3 or 4 and occasionally 5.

Fascinate speedtest.net issue

Fascinate speedtest.net issue
I have a fascinate running 3.0/dl9 ie 2.2.1-when I run speedtest.net results are pretty crappy for northern VA, usually around 500-800kb. Anyone else getting terrible speeds? Is there places to check settings for this? My wife has a Droid x and she got about 2600 on a test last night three times. Seems like my fascinate is throttled. Any advice appreciated.

The fascinate seems to have a ****ty antenna, my OG droid gets at least -10 dBm more than my fascinate no matter where it is at. Hope fully when they actually release froyo it has a better modem and gets better service(which I doubt). I also get really ****ty connections to mobile networks and even wifi networks, I can be 10 feet from the router and only get 2 bars for it. I am trying to see if I can add iwconfig and iwlist commands to the fascinate, but I am having little success with it. I am not too knowledgeable with android at this point.
Was your wifes wifi on? I rarely get over 1mbps

EVDO can't support more than about 1.5Mbps for a sustained transfer. The 2600 that your wife got would have dropped down if the test had run longer, at least it should have as that is more like a burst speed, which could be in the 3-4Mbps range. Your results seem completely normal.
I hit 1.7mbps on 3g yesterday in the los Angeles area

I believe that Verizon's EV-DO Rev. A network has a max burst rate of 3.1mbps. Sustained rate should be about 1/2 of this. I consistently get 1.5Mbps and I have a giant cell tower right outside my work (I get 4 bars even in the middle of the building).
speedtest
I'm topping out at about .14mb up and .29mb down with three bars on 3g... It's pretty consistently low, usually about .1 for both. I can barely stream a 2 minute youtube video half the time.
My Samsung Omnia was much, much faster- I could tether and stream Netflix with very little buffer time using it. With this, it's a laughable thought. Disappointing, and I haven't been able to find any suggestions for boosting it.

Installed the above config and it brought my test speed up to .70/.54. Much improved. I'd like to blame the rest of the slow speeds on living in a rural area, but it's not THAT rural (just outside Atlanta), and I have a friend who gets MUCH faster speeds on his Incredible.

Is it me? (network congestion dying)

So i have a new 3d of course, and i have been doing some of these tricks in our development portion.... one of them was pretty much a profile update... since ive done that, my 3g (which has never been good in the area im in) has be on point, i mean im getting 1.4mb down in an area that i could barely pull 400k before. i guess you can say im looking to see if anyone who has recently updated their profile on their phone notice a difference in our network. cant really say its taylored to the 3d alone, i tried it on wifes evo shift and shes getting the good speeds now too...
It's most likely the network congestion dying down. At my house when I first got the 3d it was low around 200kbps then went up to around 400 after doing the fix posted in the Dev section.
Now after checking today I am also at 1mb+ around my house and area, so either Sprint has been doing some work on their network or the masses have put down their EVO 3d's since launch. Either way can't say I can complain

I tested speeds on my trip home last night and my upload was consistently higher than my download. My download dropped as low as 7kbps, with 3 bars. My ping was 2200. Ping went down to 1700 and it then floated between 100kbps and 300kbps with 4-5 bars.
A couple hours ago, I couldn't stream music without it stopping ever 10-20 seconds to buffer. Now, I'm testing at 1.3mbps down and 500kbps up.

that was one of my major stick points... prior to these past couple days, i couldnt stream music, watch netflix or anything, hell even facebook updated slow.... now everything is moving, and i just ran another speedtest...
Its probably all the people running speed tests 50 times a day that are congesting the network... Kidding... But actually I've never had a problem really - i pretty much use pandora and slacker exclusively for music on the highest quality setting without issue.

[Q] Data oddities (is this normal?)

Im sitting here fiddling with my vibrant and I notice that whenever I have a low cell signal, my status bar indicates "H" (3.5g/4g?) and whenever I have a good cell signal, three or more bars, it throttles down to "E" (2g?), and the connection is slow as molasses...I have an unlimited data plan with family that allows for 2gb of "high speed" data before it throttles, but ive barely used only ~200mb of it in the past few weeks, mostly just listening to music on Slacker or Pandora occasionally. I noticed this at first when using Slacker while on the road; it would slow down and buffer very often when the data signal status was on "E", so I decided to do a bit of research...is this normal that im throttling down to Edge when I get a good cell signal?
If it helps any, im running ICS Passion v12 (went back from v13 because I lost headset button functionality)
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
edit - just to update, I did abit more research that lead me to the t-mo coverage check site thing, and it looks like the area I live in has spots where theres only 2g coverage (conveniently, theyre right in my neighborhood). I also did some driving around today and noticed 4g speeds were working fine in some areas when I had a good cell signal, so I guess that's that.

[Q] Some questions about data speeds and HSPA+/LTE.

Hello! I'm currently on Verizon and have a contract that is about to expire and am seriously considering signing a contract with T-Mobile to get the HTC One with an Unlimited 4G data plan. I know that T-Mo is currently rolling out LTE and I'm in one of the coverage zones which would be really nice to pair with an unlimited 4G data plan. Anyways, I was wondering, since LTE isn't fully rolled out yet, how is the data speed on HSPA+ with the One? I consider myself a heavy user and do lots of Facebooking, Instagramming, YouTubing, and reading lots of articles and Redditting. My question(s) are:
How is the data speed with common/normal applications like the above mentioned?
Is streaming music smooth?
Do web pages load quickly?
Does facebook/instagram load quickly?
How fast do YouTube videos usually buffer? I'm currently on Verizon with 3G, and it usually takes more than a minute to load a piece of a high quality video, Its very painstakingly slow.
Is it comparable to LTE when loading HQ videos (almost instantaneous) or still take a few seconds to load?
First, T-Mobile does not have contracts anymore.
Second if you are coming from 3g you will see tremendous speed increase just on 4g alone. Can't give you details about how fast things load but they will be so much faster for sure.
Lte is spotty were ever it is being rolled out. I only get one or two bars at most and im in the suburbs of Chicago. But even with just few bars I get about 15mbps down and 11 mbps up for the most part.
Either way everything is much better than 3g.
