[Q] Speed on ROGERS? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What kind of download and upload speeds should i expect if i purchase a Bell Atrix and unlock it for Rogers? Will it be a significant decrease, even if HSPUA is still disabled?
Thanks

I get 4+ down and .3 up but it is an at&t unit.

So its pretty much the same, give or take. Well, until Bell and ATT get their service up and running at 100%, atleast.
Thanks alot!

Using this on Fido...
HSPUA definately disabled on the handset therefore upload speed is 300kb max.
which blows donkey balls, but this is according to speed test.
When I upload something through another app I have gotten better speeds, but still nothing as a regular HSPUA-enabled phone.

10mb data speeds?

So my main reason for getting aVibrant cause I heard toy can get up to 10mb data speeds on tmobiles network but I have yet to see that. The most I have seen is about 5.5mb. How can I get it faster? I know it may depends on rom and modem. I have axura 2.3.1.3 with kb1 modem. If you have better speeds can you tel l me what you are using?

The radio in the Vibrant isn't capable of anything more then 7.2mbps. You must be thinking of the Galaxy S 4G, because that's the phone that's capable of 21mbps.

Shenanigans... I guess not that it matters but yes the 3G is capable. Planned obsolesce is the reason we are limited to 7.2M. I believe we probably could move at 14.4 and based on what I gather theoretically there's nothing holding us back from the 42M thats coming at the end of the year other than the greed and dishonesty.
This is proved by even getting close to 7.2M. I've gotten peak of 7 myself. A 21M handset however comes no where close to 21M, 15-16M maybe (and a big maybe at that). The 14.4 G2 and MyTouch 4G on a good day (just like the Vibrant) can come to 13-14M.
I'm in Orlando Florida. We get HSDA+ Now all we need is someone smarter than me to prove it so that either T-Mobile will flip the switch or give us our money back because I was told just like a lot of you other Early adopters that this phone was capable of the higher 4G speeds "when they became available".

Vibrant on att

alright so i got an unlocked vibrant with the unlimited data for $10 through att. and its been working perfectly. my question is can i get the phone to run faster then 3G? and i did the 1mb speed test and my speeds were much faster then 4g avg times. idk how its possible.
The phone cannot physically run faster than 7 mbps. On a great day at best you'll get download speeds around 6 mbps. I don't know what the definition for 4g is on att but since that standard is falling faster than facebooks userbase maybe you'll reach the lower limit of what att considers "4g"

Are you sure that you have a Vibrant and not a Galaxy 4G?
yeah im positive. idk maybe it just seemed to be fast yeah idk. great phone. very fast. 3g is enough for me. thanks guys!

[Q] Will our data speeds increase with the roll-out of AT&T LTE?

AT&T says that they will be launching true LTE in select markets in about a weak. I was just curious whether or not our data speeds will increase as well? I know that we have a theoretical high of 14mbs. I hope that there is some chance of this. I hate that we have a phone that seems to be able to only go at one third of its max speed. Thanks in advance for anyone's input.

No, because the Atrix is not an LTE phone.
It might improve if AT&T's network were overly saturated and, with the roll out of LTE, they enhanced their internal network with faster links. But I certainly wouldn't expect miracles.
Ahh what a shame. So we will never get the full data speeds our phones are truly capable of.

That's just it, our phones aren't capable of it. Just b/c they stuck 4G in it doesn't make it so. More like 3 1/2 G capable.

3gs capable. x_X
I have questioned "tech support" reps on the phone about this. They falsely claim that ATRIX will do lte. However the ethereal "backhaul" and broadband upgrades may have the switch flipped. So I think we may see some network improvements in some areas as they upgrade existing towers and deploy new technology.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
They'd have to add backhaul to enable LTE too, as previously mentioned which means more FauxG in more areas. One could argue that lighter hspa congestion would allow us to get closer to our theoretical limit, however for that to happen we would have to see a significant portion of AT&T s subscribers change to LTE and you would only enjoy that bump in areas serviced by AT&T.
So if you sat in a two year time capsule...yes, you would see higher rates, though they still wouldn't be anywhere as fast as LTE.

HTC vivid faster HSPA+ speeds than gs2

My gf just got a vivid, I changed her apn to the same I use on my gs2. But on both the speedtest app n speakeasy the vivid consistently hits 10mbps while my gs2 barely hits 6mbps. Both right next to each other in nyc. Why the large discrepancy between phones? Running same apns n hspa network.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I'm just guessing, but NYC probably has LTE coverage so your GFs phone will have faster speeds in those areas.
There's no LTE in nyc. The phone shows if it was connected to LTE. I

Are you running stock or a custom rom? IIRC at&t is known to limit their devices from full speeds. They have likely done this to make the skyrocket look faster even in non lte areas. I remember reading about this a while ago on other devices.

My atrix 2 was about 30% faster with downloads as well. It said 4g all the time but ATT lies, H+ I reckon.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Yes may be very true, I was once told that at&t had the mechanism that could regulate particular type of phones' data speed based on region, time of the day,etc and could speed up/ down such as apps /email/ movie download/live stream, etc. I guess every carrier does so to keep these things under control. I tested iphone 4s and ASGS2 on HSPA+, the iphone 4s was faster on data and had good call quality compared to ASGS2. Because critics out there keep comparing verizon's iphone speed and at&t's iphone speed to write reviews, the carrier is forced to keep up the reputation of certain devices for certain time as it's a big selling point!
Our plans for hspa+ are regulated and lte plans aren't regulated for speed.
Here is a good way to test, put her sim card in your phone and see the speeds you get.
I've never changed the APN on my phone...would I get better speeds doing so? Im in Detroit and usually don't get above 1.5mbps down and 1.5mbps up
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
for me HSPA+ is just a scam,,, I upgrade to the SGS2 from a Captivate SGS1, and I getting the same speedtest results that I was getting with the Captivate.
I live in DFW area so AT&T is pretty good here... with the Captivate I was getting an average of 3.9mbps Down and 1.5 mbps (it was provisioned with the iPhone Unlimited Data Plan), with the SGS2 (Provisioned with Smartphone Unlimited Data Plan) I'm getting an average of 4.1mbps down and 1.5 mbps. basically the same.

Switch SIM cards and see if you still get the same results. Let us know.
Ok guys! Switched sim cards, the gs2 with the vivid sim card still same speeds 6mbps. But if I put my gs2 sim card on the vivid it still hits well above 6mbps between 9-10mbps. Unless I have a bad phone i think the gs2 is the problem. I'm running unnamed 1.3 and the htc vivid is stock.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I'd say go get the Vivid or skyrocket if you want faster speeds. Anything HSPA will probably be slower than an LTE phone regardless of what we think we know. I had a skyrocket with faster speeds and never noticed it because the device itself was SLOWER than the GSII, I'm sure the Vivid is even worse than the skyrocket. Anyway its probably not a bad phone or a fluke its probably just the way the AT&T network is. I have an LTE Verizon work phone and get 33 to 40mb down and 8 to 10mb up and still use my GSII because the device is faster and renders pages faster than my super fast internet on my crappy verizon phone (droid charge)

Same here bud. Same here. Just the other day after almost 6 weeks of having my ASGS2 I go the fastest speed yet at 4200. Normally I'm hovering around 2000. What I have learned tho is that the speedtest app can be decieving. If I'm on the Frankfurt, IN server, I don't get above 600 ever. Swap to Arora, IL and I'm back up in the 2k range.
I don't get these speed tests. I'm in San Diego and when I use a server in San Diego, I get speeds between 2-3Mbps. If I change servers in the Tools section, Los Angeles, CA for example, I get 5Mbps. So, what does that really mean when I'm downloading apps, watching Netflix or just surfing the web on my SGS2? What is my real speed?
Nobody knows for sure if the speedtest app really works or not. I usually go to my browser and hit the speedtest there.
Also, if your phone downloadds fast (regardless of a number), then be happy.

Yup. I'm happy. I'm even happier that my SGS2 is so much faster than my Cappy (sold for $150). Love it. I was watching a streaming NFL game. It was streaming at a very good rate, clear, not so pixelated -- you can see the score and the small graphics. Thanks to good ol' unlimited data. Just don't go over the limit and get throttled, right? That's for another thread.
Vivd may have a better radio or hardware....after all it is a newer device.

3g speed

Hi,
This isn't phone related but Im hoping someone could still help me?
I signed up to my phone provider on the understanding that i would get 7.2mbps. I know this is always "up to" but i have only been able to get on average 0.3mbps. I realise there are factors like signal strength and network coverage etc but i have done some tests with 7 other people on the same provider and they get equally poor speeds. I have done many tests from different locations and they are all poor.
So can anyone tell me what the deal is with "up to 7.2mbps" ? Can they provide 20 times less speed 0.3 mbps and still claim "up to 7.2mbps"? Is this sufficient to get out of my contract?
I did some tests from another network provider at the same time and they were running at 4.5mbps.
0.3mbps is painfully slow and simply not worth having
Im in Britain, are there any regulations that govern this "up to" business? 2 months and always less than 0.5mbps, rubbish!!

Best speedtest yet with this build. ([ROM] I9100XILA2)
If other people around you are also having poor speed, then there's nothing you can do. Your provider's network simply sucks and you're better off subscribing somewhere else.
Yeh those speeds are what i should be getting
And yes clearly the network provider doesn't have enough capacity, but Im locked in for 10 more months :s - in fact their helpdesk told me the network was at capacity, but as far as Im concerned that's not my problem and not what Im paying for, but the point is... Can i dump them with 10 months left?

Now this may not be the case with you but if it is T-Mob or Orange UK or some other UK networks then the thread below may enlighten you. This may not apply to other countries but does apply to third party contract purchases and most new T-Mobile purchases.

Some people have gotten out of there fixed line broadband contracts due to misleading "upto" ratings, but not mobile broadband as far as I know, the T&C's normally say that they guarantee nothing, not even signal. Its a shame. 3UK have good speeds, but whenever I try to tether it lags all to ****, and they ALLOW you to tether.
Im pretty sure there networks just mega overloaded, there's lots of nights where my upload speed is higher than my download, meaning the backhall to the tower doesn't have enough bandwidth.

Reading through your thread just made me sick! I don't care how they put it but you can't call those speeds 3g!
Just as ISPs can't call dial-up speeds / latency
Luckily T-Mobile increased their speed cap for 3rd parties to 1mb.. But, wait for it, if you go direct you get a whole whopping 2mb!!! Wow!!
Put it this way.. I'm never getting another T-Mobile contract, you should see the speeds you get with 3 (UK)
Thanks for the links and advice. Its a good point, should go find the t&c's and nail it down.
My phone and contract are supplied as one from a supposedly reputable Telco. So my guess is that they have oversubscribed on their network and hoped no one would notice... That ain't gonna fly
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Ouch. I thought I was getting good internet speed on T-Mobile UK on my S2 but after doing a speedtest I'm barely getting 1mb down and 0.5mb up :-/
When my phone, on 3UK kicks into gear (H+) and the network isnt lagging to hell I get.
433kBps down 207kBps up (The bytes per second) aka 3.39Mbps/1.62Mbps

Yes modem is one of the biggest on phone factors in connection strength and speed.
I phoned up to cancel my contract because of the problems and they said i had to go to the shop to find out what was going on. I did that and they told me they were unaware of any issues. Denial! And there is a new cell going up to"this week"... Really... Well we'll see
