Hey everyone, I like a lot of others have been getting a lot of dropped calls and my gps takes forever to lock on so I'm looking to get my fascinate replaced, hopefully with another phone. However, I'm currently running the newest version of MIUI right now so my question is, do I need to flash back to stock before I make the call? I'm wondering because I know they make you do all sorts of stuff with your phone like updating and whatnot and I'm not sure how my phone is going to react or what's going to show up to the techs I'm speaking with.
If so, what do I need to flash back to? Did they release a new update? Could someone maybe link something that can show me how to get it back to stock?
Last question and kind of a big one is that the phone is physically damaged... However, It's been that way for over a year and the problems have only come up recently. Do I have a shot?
A little bit of reseach goes along way...this topic has been beat to death. You don't need to flash back to stock until the phone is to be sent in! The official verizon Ed05 is the latest build and is in the development section.
Good Day
I went to stock ed05 and was put through a factory reset, software update check, and she even had me go through dial codes to change things which I'm not sure would work while on MIUI. Worst case scenario, make a nandroid of MIUI and flash back after the call. Just make sure to flash a mtd rom prior to restoring

Anything for the cracked screen problem? Like I said earlier the screen has been cracked for a VERY long time and the problems just emerged with the Ed04 update.
You don't have to flash until you send it back but personally, I would before I called. Only because they are going to ask you to try a few things and will probably ask what build you were on. Who knows, going stock may solve your call issues.
Don't know what to say about the broken screen. That's not covered under warranty but missed calls would be. Maybe you could stop by a store and ask them rather than having a tech note your account.
Hi guys,
I live in India and I wanted to get some information on getting a replacement for my RAZR. I have quite dissatisfied with the performance of this device. It has been giving me issues which are not ROM related(lag, reboots, random update failures). They simply persist despite my efforts of changing the ROM to remove them.
These issues mostly occur randomly so it's quite hard for me to actually prove to someone that I am experiencing them.
So I don't wanna go through all the Motorola Service Center BS for getting a replacement, as they will most likely tell me that I am using my phone wrong and slam the door in my face(pure speculation on my part, but then this does happen in India).
Can someone tell me an easy way to get a replacement through Motorola? Doesn't have to be pertaining to my issue. I can easily soft-brick my device(and restore it, if need be) and all, so if someone has any information, please do share.
Alternatively, if I do have to go to a service center, will they check a soft-bricked device for previous flashing attempts or will they simply declare it non-functional and replace it?

Leave it at Motorola services and you'll feel good. If it's defecrtive you'll get a replacement. While your razr is at moto services, look for online chanels on the internet and ask for help. Look for motorola india in facebook and talk 2 moto there too.
I got nine replaced this way
Wish you luck

Thanks for the input. Well in India it doesn't exactly work that way. As far as I know you have to go to a service center and prove to them that your device is faulty. After that they diagnose the device and if they find the problem irreparable they replace the product reluctantly. So just wanted to make sure that I'll get a replacement and not some service center BS saying I'm doing it wrong.

Can any Indian RAZR user comment on this?
From my experience you will not get replacement until your cell is fully unresponsive first they will try to flash ur phone if it is not work than u r lucky u will get replacement i have 1 idea but its vry risky if u want competely brick ur device without dropping our putting into water you can try my method for this u will need a pc with fornt usb available open your pc just cross connect front usb cable thats it try ur pendrive first diffidently it will damage inside chip than u can try ur cell it will done the same this i have done this before to get the replacement for my MOTO DEFY. Hope this will help you.
Well I'm definitely not gonna try a full hard brick. But still thanks for the input. I'll see what I can do. I'll try Delhi first during my vacations and then Hyderabad. If that doesn't work, then well I guess I'm pretty much stuck.
A friend with a defy plus got his motherboard replaced within warranty after he bricked his phone trying to flash some roms. I'm not saying this would be the case with you as well but you would never know till you go to the service centre.
Maybe Off topic: I have an Indian XT910 and ever since i have updated to 2.3.6 i have problems receiving text messages. everything else works just fine. This is one of the most niggling issues. When i contacted the motorola call center they told me to go to an authorized service centre and get my phone downgraded to the previous version(2.3.4-not sure if there is any such version). This is an active discussion on the official motorola forum as well but the issue has not been solved.
Was wondering if any of you guys have had the same issue and were able to solve it?
(Please let me know if i need to start a new thread for this)
dude i can understand ur eagerness, i got a replacement for my razr, but as i purchased it through flipkart.com i was given a brand new handset from flipkart.com. i dont how motorola service center deals

Oh yeah, my grandparents bought it for me when they were in Delhi, so the Flipkart option is not gonna work for me. Any ways thanks for the input.

The only problem with the RAZR is that first they'll try flashing back the original firmware which won't repair my issue, but will make them feel that it works just fine. That's why I was wondering if there was another way. I can't hard brick the phone so no matter what I do, a fastboot flash will restore it back to working condition anyways.
I was thinking about doing this, use Bootstrap to format data, cache, system and emmc partitions and go to the store complaining that the phone fails to boot after an update which I get. They will most likely try doing a data wipe from the built in recovery which will fail due to absence of an actual android system partition. Also all traces of Bootstrap will be removed because of the system partition not containing any data anymore. After this I'll basically tell them that this happens every time I try to update the phone. So maybe they might look past the fact that it's a simple software issue. I dunno if it'll work though.
Also one more thing, do the store guys give a damn about the user's wants, like for example if the user wants a new phone instead of a motherboard replacement, do they actually consider that? Because I'm gonna be in Delhi for a few days only so won't really have the time to get a motherboard replacement done because that'll take more than just a few days(and I really want an entirely new RAZR, I feel cheated with my current one)
And lastly, no I haven't had any of the issues you've mentioned. My 2.3.6 runs fine in that aspect. Just the random lag, and reboots which are killing me.

so i'm guessing this is a hardware issue?
but a lot of people seem to be having this issue... and i did not have this issue when i was on 2.3.5... you are on stock right? and any other Indian razr owners having this issue?
and btw you should call the motorola customer care at 180030004343 and get whatever information you need(at least you'll get an idea if you will be getting a replacement)

Already did. After I described the issue he told me to do a factory reset from the Motorola Recovery(which I've tried multiple times before. DOES NOT WORK). I told that it doesn't work. Then he said that he cannot help me further on the phone and I would have to go to a Motorola Service Center to get my phone checked for issues. He said nothing about a replacement. I have emailed Motorola customer care about the same. They haven't replied yet. WTF is wrong with Motorola Customer care!

I wonder how you got your handset replaced through flipkart.com...I contacted them but they told me they can't help me and that I need to go to a moto service center using the list of service center's as a reference, which they had sent me along with the phone... be kind enough to share how did you get it replaced through flipkart

I think he was referring to Flipkart's 30 day replacement guarantee when he said that he got a replacement from Flipkart.
Hi there folks,
I'm having a bit of a problem with my Vibrant phone. Or, rather, I've always had this problem with this phone:
There is an extreme lag to the interface, sometimes with it barely responding at all for 10 or so seconds.
This problem was present even on the stock ROM/kernel/image , straight from Samsung/T-Mobile, enough so that I've also tried CM9 and CM10 ROMS.
This lag seems to be present in almost every system of the phone, to a varying degree; for example, when I pretty the button to turn the screen on, it'll take 1-2 seconds for the LCD to turn on (OLED?), but the the backlight will remain off for another 1-3 seconds. And when I open the Call Logs screen, it takes 10-20 seconds for all the phone numbers to be converted into names from the Contacts list. There's plenty more instance where the UI and UX are really seriously affected by the lag, but those are two examples that jump out.
Since I don't know anyone else with this phone, I don't have a point of comparison, I might get some YouTube video of some of these latencies to try and better demonstrate what I'm describing here.
Seeing as this has happened with two very different ROMS and configurations loaded onto the phone, I'm not worried that I may have gotten a bum piece of hardware. Is there any sort of truly objective test that can be done? Something to verify the flash mem access speed, or verify that there are no faults in the RAM, or any such things?
Has anyone else experience this kind of a response from the UI? Is this just a fundamental limit of what this phone can do?
sorry to here that but when you got the phone is when you should have made the call back.... but in question have you ever used odin to go back to true stock firmware to see if maybe its a software issue and not the hardware of the phone try using this guide http://team-passion.com/index.php/wiki/general/15-how-to-use-odin-for-vibrant or search around for odin tutorials that you should try back and make sure you back up everything before you do anything save all your stuff to your PC if possible numbers everything back it up using titanium backup or Rom toolbox both work pretty good make a nandroid back up and save that to computer as well then start the trial and error process hope you can resolve this need help feel free to PM me good luck

How to make a true system image?
Thanks for the input guys; it makes sense that perhaps I should do a true, true nuclear solution reformat, reconstruction, etc.
Is there a way to make a true "image" of the phone as it is now? It's not really clear what Titanium Backup is doing, so I'm curious if there is a way to make a full-on 16GB (or more) duplicate of the phone's entire flash memory, so I could switch back to it, if needed? Something akin to doing a 'dd if=/dev/sda of=backup.dat' in linux.
Hello, first off I would like to say I'm terribly sorry for posting in the wrong section, but there isn't a section for the US Cellular Galaxy S3 and I don't want to spend an hour trying to find the correct section. Anyway, I've had my S3 for 1.5 years now and I finally decided to ditch Touchwiz and install Cyanogemod. So I got TWRP recovery, installed the correct cyanogenmod 11 version and gapps. I was extremely happy with the smoothness that I decided to text a friend. Text wouldn't go through. Nor could I make phone calls. Anyway I went into settings and it claimed my phone number was something along the lines of '000-000-9356' (Not entirely sure on last 4 digits) So I tried restoring to the backup that I had made, which did not work. Data however did work after tinkering with settings. Fast forward 2 weeks and I decide to try and fix the sms and phone problem. I couldn't find any help and stumbled upon a list of modems for SCH-R530U. Flashed one of those and when the phone booted back up, I had no data connection at all. I tried flashing the rest of them in a panic to try and fix what I broke but none of them changed the broken connection. I went into settings, about phone, status, and the phone says unknown for my network type, phone number, MIN, PRL version, MEID, IMEI, and ICCID. I know realize that I most likely have broken this phone beyond repair and I can't seem to find any fix or any stock firmware for my phone. If anyone could provide some help, it would be greatly appreciated instead of comments telling me to go to iOS, stating that I ****ed it up, or anything similar that I have recently gotten on other forums I've tried to get help from.

I have done a quick search for you and it seems to the same as the one from verizon. Thats what google told me and this link leads to so don't quote me 100% and it also states "This device does not have dedicated subforums, you may be able to find assistance in the Verizon subforums. "
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik.../SCH-R530#XDA-Developers_Forums_for_the_Phone
According to us cellular it is a SCH-R530U with baseband R530UVXUCNF3 and android 4.4.2.
Have done abit or search but I will not post links as Im not familiar with it and don't want to be the one to give you a link to brick it so im afraid that's as far as I can go and suggest you go to verizon section

have that problem on a Korean SKTELECOM phone, and I fixed it with a restore of my efs partition. if you dont have a backup of your previous efs partition, you must have to go to a samsung service center and fix it using some money.
I have the same phone and I flashed the same ROM. i had a horrible experience doing it. let me say that the ROM is awesome. but As we know it is a pain on the butt. I just can't do calls. I dial the number and it won't call. the camera app don't have a flash yet I think. and if you have a bad signal it gets worst. using your post I would like someone or maybe you if you know any other ROM to install on this phone. what is the best?

This is a saga. I had a very long six hours with Pixel support yesterday. Phone is on Verizon. Sorry if some of this is text speak, it's adapted from telling a buddy and reddit about this mess.
So. My camera has been kinda ****ed up for a month or so. I talked to google support about it a while ago but kinda took a break from dealing with it. I have deduced that it is clearly a hardware issue. The camera makes a loud clicking noise when it tries to focus, very rarely actually does focus. The last step in Google troubleshooting before they will warranty it is a factory reset. I said I didn't wanna because it was obviously a hardware issue but my guy said I had to, I should have just lied, but I didn't think of it. So before I reset, I wanted to have everything backed up, which it wasn't, apparently. So to speed things along and not have to wait for it to sync itself, I forced the backup using adb. Made sure it was completed, though. And I can see the backup on Google Drive right now and could then. So then I do the reset.
The phone comes back, my instructions were to skip the startup and test the camera. Obvs doesn't work because it was a hardware issue, but now I wanna reset my phone. Go through the wizard. "No backup found." Ask my camera guy what I should do, he said it glitches sometimes, just do another reset after we're done setting up for me to return the phone maybe. Don't wanna do that right away cuz I'm going away, but I have a while to do it. So I do the second reset and do the wizard right at startup. Still no backup. I call back for a different tech, who has me reset through the bootloader. Still no backup. At that point, I ask if there is someone who can walk me through the commands to force a restore with adb. He says his supervisor could, he'll be back and call me in an hour.
90 minutes pass. I receive no call. I call back looking for my specialist. Get some other dude whom I walk back through the problem with screen sharing on. Takes him a while to get the lay of the land, which is, again, the backup exists, I can see it, for some reason my phone setup cannot, I would like my full phone setup back and not just my ****ing photos. "Ok, we can try transferring you to a manager." Yes. That is what I wanted before. Get another guy who I am not sure is actually a manager. Spend like 15 minutes trying to make him understand the issue and again saying please just give me someone with some familiarity of developer tools who can walk me through some commands real quick. I have a new troubleshooting step he says! Great! He tells me it. Then I went from annoyed to mad. Mind you in between all these calls, I've been getting that 30 seconds of Vivaldi looped on end. He suggests we try putting it in safe mode and letting it sit for half an hour to make sure no apps are interfering. I tried to explain to him that this is pointless, that the whole problem is that THERE ARE NO APPS, IT'S FACTORY FRESH, what would this solve. He tries to say we're just troubleshooting and have to go through it and why safe mode checks things. I said again, I'm clearly not a complete novice, I understand the thing we're doing, I am explaining to you right now why you are having me do it and why it is a pointless step, can we move onto the next one, please. The call drops. He may have just hung up on me because he realized I wasn't happy with his horrible pointless idea.
I call back and this time, through some more Vivaldi, get fairly straight through to a manager. This one at least seems to grasp the issue. He doesn't know how to fix it. No one there knows anything at all about how to use any developer tools, and we've officially established my level of technical literacy is higher than the people meant to help me, if not high enough to get myself out of this mess. There is no one higher to escalate this too, but we can be transferred to the Drive department. Sure. More Vivaldi. Get my guy. At least this time he seems to be on the same continent. Has no idea why I was transferred to him, this is not something in their wheelhouse at all, he'll try one thing, and oh, by the way, I don't own a cell phone yuk yuk yuk. Seems kinda wild for a Google tech support guy not to have a cell, but that's just me. His one thing doesn't work. He has no idea why android support rolled me around the way they did all day. See if Verizon might know. btw you wanna take a survey? That's mostly where we are now. Except. For some reason, if you turn off autobackup, it'll delete all existing backups. This is stupid, but also an issue because I neither want my phone to backup and overwrite the backup I know works nor to delete that backup. So now my phone is backing up into another drive where it can't hurt anyone.
Also, I've now warranty'd the phone with Verizon for the camera issue, so hopefully it will just restore easily to the new one, but just in case it doesn't, I'd still like some advice if anyone has any.
Anyway, the question is if anyone knows how to force the thing to restore with adb.
tl;dr: I forced my phone to do a backup with adb, I can see the backup in google drive, but when I try to setup my phone, it won't recognize that it is there. Does anyone know how to solve this, using adb again or otherwise?
