I've been having the same issue, but it's not always after HDMI hookup. Usually just rebooting the phone screws up the pics too

[Q] Downgrade Gtab 1080p to 720p

So I got the HDMI cable from electroniccrap.com. I have a 720p TV and I only get a blank screen with no sound when I connect my gtab to the TV. However, I do know the gtab is detecting the HDMI cable because the sound from the gtab goes out when the cable is plugged in. I suspect the TV is not capable of handling 1080p signals. Is there a way to downgrade the signal to 720p ?
Sounds silly but wiggle your cable, i thought mine wasn't working but the cable for some reason just needed a little nudge and it started displaying the video.
Known Issue
It is a known issue that SOME 720p TV's won't accept the signal. I have a 50, 42, and 32 inch samsung lcds and plasmas, all work except the 32" lcd.

No, Tegra2s are set in hardware to output 1080p (unless you want to buy additonal hardware like a scan rate converter...(costly)
HAve you tried it on another TV, or tried anpther 1080p input to your TV?
I took the advice from one of the posts above and wiggled the cable here and there. I must have tried for at least 3 hours. Guess what? The cable works only when I hold it at a certain angle , pulled upwards and to the right. I immediately lose the image when I let go.
I sent the cable back for a replacement.

Cheap Working MHL-HDMI Adaptor

I can confirm this works:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005F9W6DU
hows the vid quality?
monoprice has adapters for 14 dollars. Also since its a digital signal u don't have to worry about the quality of the picture. If it works it works if the signal is bad it won't work.

Well, it is about what you would expect from WVGA stretched to a 1080p screen. Not bad, not great.
So it will record 1080p but outputs it at 800x480 via the hdmi? If that is the case then that's extremely disappointing.
I think it changes resolution when playing video. Notice how the screen blanks out briefly before playback begins? I think that's the resolution switchover. At least that's what happens on my international SGS2...
I want one.. but is it worth it? lol
just wanna verify that it mirrors your screen, correct? so its fully operational while outputting?
Complete mirror of screen. Can confirm movie playback is in 1080p. Fully functional.

How do you mirror your screen? I have the phone connected to the TV through this Micro USB - HDMI adapter, but I see nothing on the TV when I play a video.
UPDATE: I think I answered my own question by reading other threads: you need to actually separately power the adapter through the USB port on its side. That's a bummer, so you actually need a separate USB power source!
Bleh...
Mediahub files blocks hdmi out.
Works if i play first then plug it in.
But once i move files off mediahub to sd card, that trick doesnt work anymore

Ya mine is being blocked as well. I bought the OEM Samsung one to watch my media hub stuff. Kinda disappointing. As stated before if you start the playback before you plug it in it works quite well.
So I just picked up an adapter locally and while it works just fine, I'm not sure it's working as it should with regards to charging. If I simply have the adapter plugged in and then plugged into the wall, it charges very very very slowly. If I actually plug in the hdmi cable and do something like stream a video, buh bye battery life. It drains crazy fast.
This adapter from Amazon, does the charger help keep the battery at around the same level while in use or do you see it drop a good bit as well?
Oh and with regards to MediaHub, whether I start a video before hooking up this adapter or after, I still get the same error on my tv about protection, etc.

In regards to charging this phone charges slow and if your using it watching video it will just barley keep up. The phone seems to use almost as much juice as it get from the charger as your watching video.

So how do you get this working? and it puts 1080p video on the TV through the USB>HDMI from our i777?
What is media hub?
Anyone try a MHL-VGA with this phone?
I've tried a few adapters. There's 2 different adapters from Samsung the one with product #2 worked the best for me its on Amazon I got it for 25$ and works well. Also mirroring works even better with a launcher like adw ex as when it switches into landscape mode it looks great on a big screen

The menotek cable drops the connection, so it is worthless. I don't know if the official Samsung one is better, but I had to keep getting up to fix the menotek.

I bought the Accel which seems to work well for me. $20 on Amazon.

Is your HDMI out working on .15 update

Curious if any of you night owls can help me out. If you have a micro HDMI laying around with a source to plug it into can you see if it works. Especially if you are on .15 FW.
Mine was working last night flawless on my new Prime now no longer working on the .15 FW. I am pretty sure that i was using the HDMI out before i updated to .15.
Tried today on same TV, no dice.
One word, Yes
Damn, thanks. Guess ill be exchanging my Prime this morning hopefully they have more. I dont get it, worked fine last night but not now. Its only 2 days old too.
I gave up on it several firmware versions ago when I bought the cable and adapters to hook up to a monitor over DVI...guess I should try again.

Kinda angers me that it doesnt fill my tv screen perfectly. Like the tv zooms in way too much. I tried so many options but i was told thats how its always going to be. It outputs in 720p but a mkv file that is 1080p will output in that
Mine actually when working fit perfect. As long as i had my TV on screen fit oppose to 16:9.

Yes, both playing movie from ext sd, and internal sd. Also play photo slide show with music background. Everything are good.
Works for me. It never fit fully on my TV though... Tried all of the different options for resizing, no go.

[Q] My new PC... the S3!! MHL HDMI Resolution

Hey guys and gals,
Although I've been lurking on these forums for a few weeks I've finally decided to join and ask some questions.
I've completed my S3 PC, got a nice monitor with HDMI input, bluetooth keyboard and mouse and of course the MHL adapter. Everything works great.. time to get rid of the ageing PC in my office.
I have a question though, I've connected the S3 to my TV and the new monitor and I never get a 1080p connection.. it's always 1080i
Is there any way to force 1080p as I do get a slight flicker with 1080i
I'm totally amazed at what the S3 can do! BTW I was a total apple fanboy until I got my S3 a few weeks ago.
Cheers in advance... and yes I searched
so nobody else is having this issue?? I was really hoping to get some help here Anyone??
Sure your monitor supports 1080p? What hz does it run when using 1080i?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
It doest output 1080p via hdmi just 1080i iv tested on all my tv sets and there are all top line and display tbe same i dont get any flicker tho are you using a good hdmi cable?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
thanks for confirming snowwhite007... I honestly thought it was able to output 1080p. I guess the slight flicker is due to the monitor then.
Flickering may also be due to the phone's HDMI chip. I'm not sure if it's clock source and other components are stable enough for a clean transmission of 31'104'000 (31,1million) pixels per second (1920 width*1080 height*30 images/second / 2 (interleaved) )
1080i and 1080p have the same native resolution of 1920x1080 pixels with the only difference being that "i" (interlaced) paints odd lines before even in 2 'ticks' while "p" (progressive) paints in one go from top to bottom.
So if there is any flickering it SHOULD only be every other line, can you confirm that?
Hi, i've got a question, can anyone give me a tip which keyboard and mouse works best with the s3?
I want to do exactly what you did. I want to use my phone as a pc.
So any Idea?
I bought a cheap bluetooth keyboard an mouse from Deal Extreme worka great
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Might sound like a silly thing, but just check your power saving isn't enabled, found that while it is enabled stuff like 1080 vids played really badly. That and what type of hdmi cable you are using could be factors.
I went on hols for two weeks and just took my S3 and a portable hard drive with hdmi and usb adapters and cables and used the hotels 1080p tvs as a full desktop, ubuntu and all
I am pretty positive that everytime I have used the hdmi it has been at 1080p. My guess is maybe a tv error unless it has run 1080p before?
EDIT: Oooh, just had another thought, what exact hdmi adapter did you use? Link included if that's not against forum rules? Know when I got mine I had to wade thru a lot of close immitations that don't display properly as they are cheap fakes sold as the real thing, one would only display 720p
can you tellme the model of bluetooth keyboard and mouse? i wanna do the same

I bought a generic mini bluetooth keyboard from amazon marketplace, it's not the bees knees but its about the size of the phone, bluetooth, rechargeable and only £10.
Works great for using the terminal or typing complex passwords etc when traveling or using as a desktop.
Also used the microsoft notebook bluetooth mouse 5000, got that cheap through amazon marketplace too.
Neither come with bluetooth adapters though so would need to by one seperately if ever using with a pc that doesn't have built in bluetooth.
1080i
Hi
I recently purchased MHL adapter from this website
http://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s3-mhlhdmi-adaptor
And I have same problem as you. My TV only gets 1080i not 1080p.
However I don't get flickering, I just see that there is not enough vertical pixels (visible difference)
Tried bunch of different hdmi cables (cables that work with various 1080p devices with no issues whatsoever) and I always get 1080i.
Even when I try to playback video which is 1080p.
I'll try later if there is any difference if I plug it in through AMP (onkyo) and not the tv and let you know if there is any difference.
Cheers

[Q] Two Razr Issues

My gf just bought a Droid Razr this week, however, she's already run into two issues and I was hoping someone here might have some answers, suggestions or feedback.
1) She says the touchscreen freaks out if she touches while it's plugged in. She said she tried to text a friend while the phone was charging and it ended up sending some bizarre message instead. I asked and she says she is using the cable and wall charger that came with the phone. Has anyone heard of this before? Is there any solution that anyone knows of?
2) She said she's having trouble transferring pictures off of her phone too. She connects to her laptop (Apple) and transfers the files, but when the appear on her computer they're broken files. She has no trouble uploading files to Facebook, Google+, Twitter, etc...it's just transferring them from the phone to the computer. Has anyone heard of this before or have any solutions?
Thank you so much for any information anyone has!
1) that happens to me with any charger i plug into an inverter. so try a few different outlets or charger to see if it persists? maybe an outlet at a friends?
2) try it on a windows or linux pc (i've always had dificulty with apple software causing problems. i had to reflash an hd2 that was on winmo after plugging it into a mac)
1) Do what the person above me said, but if it still happens, then I would take it into a VZW store and have them take a look at it...
2) Try to put it into the "Picture Transfer Mode", or leave it in "Mass Storage Mode" and then try and at least view the pictures on the Mac, if they view fine, then again, I would ask VZW if you don't find a super simple solution.
A factory reset might also work, I've had things happen to me and a simple factory reset fixed all.. Something to think about trying if it comes down to it.. Most of the pictures should be stored on the SD card, and therefore just plug the SD card into the Mac and take the pictures off that way?
the first thing happens to alot of people.. including me n i have the original charger..
