Backup everything, then downgrade to DJ05 - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, so from DL30 to EB01, I could just flash the rom over it since it was 2.2 to 2.2 but is there a way I can do it downgrading? My battery life just blows, and on dj05 frankenkernel it was a lot better, so I just wanna go back.

You don't need to do anything extra to downgrade. Just make sure you flash the correct Rom, Kernel, And Radio. Check out my thread.

If you have questions, let me know. If you are not on voodoo do not flash the kernel provided in my thread. Rather I can provide you with a nonvoodoo kernel.

yea, you can just downgrade to any rom you want.

Awesome! And I can switch to voodoo again, I planned on with I downgraded

Can I upgrade too the same way?

Yea, but installing ROM requires data wipe out. So, BACK UP =D

But that's the problem, I don't wanna wipe my data, and if I have to, I wanna be able to restore everything...

Titanium App requires ROOTED phone
Step 1ownload Titanium Back-Up.
Step 2:Back up any apps you would like to restore in your new ROM
Step 3:Install new rom.
Step 4:Install Titanium again, then back up apps you previously backed up
Step 5:Enjoy =D

You risk the chance of having the force close of hell or even brick if you don't do so, especially switching to voodoo. Just back up Apps, WIFI access points, Accounts, Bluetooth Pairings, Alarms, and Country, Language, Time Zone in Titanium. Do not back up system data or you will run into major issues.

Nevermind.. Nobody seems to understand what I want

We've answered what you have asked for.
It's not our fault that you didn't state the problem properly.

I, too, was curious about downgrading back to DJ05 for the battery life, but did not want to be unrooted again. I'm not planning on it right now just b/c of the Mez sources and all the awesomeness that is sure to be hitting our phones soon, but just in case I *do* decide to downgrade, where could I get the alleged non-voodoo kernel?
And yes, I actually have the full version of Titanium Backup. Totally worth it so far. I've used it to restore SMS, apps, and settings for my apps several times over.

Repost of rooting questions

Sorry again for initially posting this I the wrong forum!
Hey all!
I was thinking of rooting my eris, but after reading the forum some, I still have a couple questions about Eris rooting and rooting in general.
First off, if I use the one click root app, I will not have to install a new rom, correct? Also, how likely is it to brick my phone? If bricked, is there a method of restoring it?
Secondly, if I install the FroYo rom, would I be able to go back to the factory build of OTA 2.1? Or would I be stuck with custom roms then?
The only reason I am concerned with restoring the factory rom is that if something happens to the phone, I'd like my warranty to still be able to cover it (I'm 99% sure that they won't cover a rooted froyo thats overclocked).
Also, sorry if these have been asked before, I just wasn't able to find them on my own.

It doesn't force you to do anything; it only installs a custom recovery - from which, anything is possible. One of the options is to overlay two different flashes - engtools3.zip and the "OC Kernel" - this gives you root capabilities and overclocking, but leaves you with exactly the same Apps and settings. Or, you can replace everything with a brand new ROM, after you have made a Nandroid backup.

There is about a 0.0000000001% chance it will brick your phone.
What the risks are after that depend on your ability to read and follow directions, but are generally pretty low.

A brick is defined as "unable to be restored by any means"; so, no, a brick can not be recovered. There are ways you could make the phone unbootable, but not "bricked". Those can generally be recovered from.

If you make a Nandroid backup, you can go back to EXACTLY what you had before.
cheers

I had pretty much the same questions the other day; I went ahead and installed one-click root, flashed rootme.zip, encountered no problems. Then I simply followed the directions in the sticky in the development subforum (can't remember the name) for flashing a custom rom.
It started off by saying to create a nandroid backup, and it's a darn good thing I did, since my first rom flash was a failure. Luckily I just restored from the backup and my phone was exactly the sane as it was before the custom rom install. Still rooted, and all apps, contacts, and settings were the same.

really unhappy with ji6... downgrade question

I am unhappy with ji6, my gps and compass no longer work and i've had nothing but problems since the update. also the call waiting dial screen lag sucks. I would like to go back to my previous rom which was basically stock rooted with ji2 gps fix and accurate battery mod. I have this saved as a backup, but I am afraid to flash it. When I flashed the new ota update it bricked my phone. I was unble to load my previous backup through clockwork recovery. I had to completely wipe my data and start over. any advice on the safety of trying to flash back to my backup rom, will it conflict with the ji6 framework?
Thanks
There should be no issues at all. I assume you still have the stock kernel too... if you had an oc kernel I would go back to stock first.
just go to rom manager and click on restore, then select your old backup... should take you to cwr and reboot when done.
My first thought was to download a custom rom. I just flashed bionix 1.7 and it seems much better than stock JI6.
I would really urge doing that...
yeah, maybe i'll try bionix first, It's just that I was really happy with the way it ran before this stupid update.
I also was fond of my setup before the update. Bionix made it better again. Hope you like it, worst case go back to stock.
I will say I would make sure you can revert to stock from bionix. I have seen a number of posts with issues, but that may be from people who had the oc kernel? I can't say with certainty.
Same here, i flashed bionix (first time using bionix) I flashed bionic 1.7 w ji2 modem oc/uv no voodoo and this thing flies! Gps is fine, navigation is usable.

I tried flashing back to my backup...(stock, rooted with bat mod and ji2 gps fix) and it got stuck in the vibrant startup screen, same as when I ran the ota. I guess my previous setup is no longer an option. Before I try another rom and have to redo all of settings and apps again, I would like to try to at least get the gps working on the ota ji6. Any advice on how to do that would be appreciated. So far I have tried all of the things I was able to find in other threads...deleted gps data, made sure lbstest settings are stock, turned off wireless, etc. I still get no locks at all.
Is bionix really that good? I'm considering it. I'm on my stock rom, stock kernel.
I think i'm going to try it out.

installing xtrSense 4.6/ is xtrRCMix better?

EDIT: Also, I was wondering if maybe xtrRCMix was a better choice /showthread.php?t=806748
I've tried this and that and haven't been able to root my phone and flash the rom properly.
So, I factory reset my phone and decided to ask y'all to walk me through it.
I'm not a techie at all, so I don't understand any of this:
How to flash Amon Ra recovery:

What is "terminal"?

My end goal is to install xtrSense 4.6:

The how to install portion said:
TO INSTALL
YOU MUST HAVE A ROOTED PHONE WITH THE AMON_RA RECOVERY PARTITION
download the base xtrSENSE .zip file
complete NANDROID backup
copy the .zip file to the root of your sd card
From amon_ra recovery Wipe data/factory reset, Wipe Dalvik-cache, and Wipe SD:ext partition
flash the xtrSENSE file from sd card
reboot - first boot will take a while (i.e. over 10 mins - deodexed ROMs take longer on first boot)
complete short setup and let your accounts sync
Setup GScripts
you can now one-click toggle settings at any time
I don't understand any of this. Anyone mind explaining and walking me through it?
I just want my Eris to have longer battery life and be able to overclock, while still have Sense UI.

It really is personal choice. I have been running xtrSENSE since I rooted my phone. I would try other ones but always went back to xtrSENSE. I just installed xtrRCMix last night and I must say that is a killer rom. I am really enjoying it. I am going to try this one out for a few days and decide. You will never go wrong with xtrSENSE, but what is nice with a nand backup you can try numerous different roms and always have the security to know that you can go back.

What are the top couple of differences between xtrSense and xtrRCMix?

Mmm. That's my biggest question. xtrRCMix looks a little different from conventional HTC Sense UI, but other than that, what's different between it and xtrSense?

Titanium RESTORE Question

I am hoping someone has some knowledge of this...I had a lot of trouble getting CWM recovery to boot on my vibrant, but thanks to these forums, I installed ODIN, got back to Eclair, re-rooted and got CWM recovery to boot. I am using the Auxoria ROM and when I installed it I selected wipe data, etc, but when I flashed it through CWM, I am not sure if it did it or not. It appears to be working, but it seems to have a few strange behaviors from before. I then restored all apps and system data from Titanium Backup. Then got to thinking, can Titanium backup restore any system data from the Eclair ROM that would cause issues? When you restore after flashing a ROM, are you supposed to NOT install system data? I wonder if anyone has any experience with that and can make a recommendation. And Happy Mothers Day out there to any mom's out there that give so much to raise a family!
Restoring system data is absolutely a no-no
You typically can restore the green ones, if on the same os... But if you had eclair settings and restored on froyo, I bet you have a lot of little bugs.
I would odin to jfd, flash a new rom and then restore just the apps+ data.
Also, axura was great, but done master has moved to greener pastures you may want to try another. I think master said he would try and support this device still, but that's to much to ask of him I think.

Thank you....What other ROM would you recommend. I looked for one with a working GPS, and minimal bugs. I really want to do cyanogen 7 like my mytouch4g, but it doesn't seem ready yet. Am I just able to reflash and wipe data when I do? Any reason I really have to redo my odin and eclair refresh?

You can't go wrong with Trigger or the new Bionix NextGen.
I would go back to stock, just so you know you'll go to the next rom with no bugs.
Check my signature. Amazingly easy to go to jfd > new rom.
I would suggest Trigger for having everything work as it should/theming.
I went back to eclair and flashed trigger 3.2, but it seems pretty bland? No way to edit functions for home keys, or customize much of anything...looks like 2.2 really, am i missing something? I selected launcher and want to try TW launcher but I can't see where I can do that. I wanted to edit my grids but don't see that either...like replacing the app of web browser with text app...used to be able to edit on homescreen but that is even gone...

[SOLVED] What all does "flashing" involve?

I'm relatively new to the rooting community, but I think I'm doing pretty good. I have my DX2 running Eclipse 2.0.1 and am about to install Speedy v7. I am supposed to flash the .zip using BSR, which is no problem. My question is, what all does flashing involve? Should I automatically know to wipe cache when flashing? Just curious
Another questions while I'm here. I'm running Eclipse 2.0.1, let's say I wanted to try out another rom (such as Liberty), do I just flash (like above) the new rom? Or do I have to do something special for flashing roms as opposed to mod scripts (such as speedy v7)? And if I nandroid Eclipse before flashing a new rom, can I easily restore my nandroid?
Big big big thanks!
"Flashing" is just a term that means to overwrite something to make changes. Thats as much as I can tell you about that. lol
If you are wanting to flash other ROMs over your eclipse rom, you need to be on the same kernel. Since you are using Eclipse 2.0.1, I think its safe to say you are running Android 2.3.5. If you have another ROM that is built off of Android 2.3.5 then you should be safe to wipe cache, dalvik cache and flash right over it. Some might require you to do a factory reset but its not always necessary. But if you want to use a ROM based off of 2.3.4, like I think Liberty is (I'm not sure if its been updated), then you have to first be on stock 2.3.4. Which means going through the process of downgrading your OS first.
And about wiping cache and all, I would say just do it before flashing anything. It doesnt hurt and doesnt take long. Before you use any scripts though, make sure it has been updated for 2.3.5 ROMs. Otherwise you will get a bootloop and be stuck.
I hope that sheds some light on your question and didnt confuse you more. lol
No that definitely clears some things up for me, thanks
As far as downgrading the OS. Does that require the RSD/SBF process? If so, I'm familiar with that.

You can SBF to the original 2.2 froyo the X2 had and either stay there or ride the two OTA updates back to 2.3.4

In reference to your comment about bootloop.
If u make a nandroid before flashing something (and u don't wipe data before rebooting) and you get stuck in boutloop,
Just pull battery and plug in.
BSR will come up an you can restore your nandroid and will be up and running again no problem.
