Guys, I'm getting ridiculous battery drain (100-200 mA, all I do is texting). Can somebody help me finding out what the problem is? I'm running the VillainROM with the OC Kernel.
In the Battery Usage-section it says that 'Display' is taking up 65%. I've already tried to turn off my overclock (1.5GhZ) but that didn't fix it. I've done the FastDormancy trick, and freezed all the bloatware through Titanium Backup.
I'm running the stock launcher, with Beautiful Widgets. After 1 hour and 30 minutes, I'm already on 83%..
Thanks in advance!

I got the same last week, just before I got myself in a boot loop.
The fix for that seems to have gotten things back to reasonable.
Less than 1%/hr now in idle (wifi or 3G on, some syncs).
Procedure right on top in SII Q&A by pulser.
(wish that was there last week )
PS: I am on Lite'ning 1.1 now, but that should not make that big a difference.

What do you mean? The only thing at top from pulser is the fix for a boot-loop?

I see. I will reflash my entire ROM and start from scratch, and I'll report back. Thanks for the help, mate.
where are you able to see current mA usage? was my understanding this is not available on the SGS2.
There is nothing wrong with your phone. The screen will use that much power. 200ma is very low for the screen. On my old Desire 400ma with screen on was normal.
Also the white color will use more power then other colors.
yeah where can you see the current mA usage?
I also would be very interested in where OP got his battery readings.
Really wanted to test the effect on the battery from different settings, but from a statistical point of view, battery percentage alone is worth nothing. Need these readings.
I've reinstalled my ROM, it's lower now but it's still way too high (70 mA)...
I get the readings from Battery Monitor Widget Pro. After installing, go to settings and put battery capacity on 1650,
Then go to 'history' and you can see mA usage
yes, unfortunately this is only an estimation as Samsungs battery driver does not include mA data.
Thats why CurrentWidget does not work, battery Monitor just gives you an educated guess calculated from percentage and usage i believe.
yes samsung is using the max10742 fuel gauge chip, and the damn thing does not give current readings, only voltage, temperature, etc. many other fuel gauges DO give current readings and it is very helpful. i wish samsung would switch to some other already...
battery monitor widget is estimating...
How do you calibrate your NookColor's battery effectively using the Battery Calibration app by NeMa? I've done it a couple of times and I'm quite unsure whether it did anything good on my battery... On my personal opinion, it just made it worse. Or maybe I did something wrong. It says there that it's recommended to wait for 100% before you calibrate. I did that. It also says that it's recommended to have the battery drain after calibrating, then charge to full without stop. I did that. But after all of I've done, I did not notice any difference, in fact I think it just got worse.
Did I do it right? Can anyone post a tutorial/link that can teach me how to do it right?
Why do you think that thing are worse now?
Is your battery reaching 1 or 2% before nook shuts down?
If yes, then its working fine.

I use battery left and try to get it to calibrate during regular usage sessions.
Hello guys,
I have a problem with battery :
Every morning, after booting, my phone was powered off over all the night, I can see my battery decreasing by 10%!!!! And I sometimes notice after few minutes that it increases itself bit by bit...
I've already did a battery calibration, but not after flashing the new Siyah' 2.0 kernel.
This is very annoying, and makes me wondering if I should recalibrate or what...???
BTW, the question is : HOW ?
Some say you have first delete batterstats, power off, then full charge.
Others say you have to power off, full charge, manually delete batterstats.bin, or use Battery Calibration App.
What is the f*** best way to calibrate our battery ?
I'm really pissed off loosing 10% battery with my phone powered off every morning...
Regards.
Using Revolution 2.7.1 ROM with SiyahKernel v2.0
This might just be the ramblings of a mad man, but I have been thinking lots lately about battery calibration on the sgs2.
Normally on most android phones the power off charge is completely independent from the rom so that if you charge when powered off you know it is really a full charge, not controlled by pre-logged battery stats, you can then wipe the stats and get a better idea of what "full" is when you are powered on.
On the SGS2 the charge when powered off is still controlled by the rom (see the app "no moar powah" for an example of this), therefore it may still be under the control of the same battery stats so may not indeed charge any more than what the rom thinks is full when you are powered on.
Wow, thanks for your explanation...
But, it makes me perplexed. If you're alright, you mean that battery calibration doesn't work on S2 ?!
So, in this case, how to solve my problem ?

the best thing you can try is to run the battery flat, charge while off, wipe battery stats anyway and hope for the best.
Will try it again ....
Maybe should I flash another rom after full wipe, or stick to a stock one.
I can't imagine that my battery is defected yet !
Maybe this could help :
Just after full charging, use Battery Calibration App, and notice it didn't delete Batterystats.bin in data/system... I've always use it and never pay attention... (maybe error with SU permission ?)
Very strange, so this time I delete it manually.
Maybe, it'll calibrate my battery well this time.
Wait n see.

Weirdly, I noticed that yesterday! I don't think it works on all roms, I'm definitely going to do it manually from now on.
My first current conclusion :
The best way to calibrate your f*** battery is definitely to do it manually.
Just delete batterystats.bin in data/system, after full charging (with Rootexplorer or another app)
Then, use it until to 90%, and full charging.
That's all ATM.
Why ?
Because, I've just noticed that Battery Calibration App doesn't always delete this file. Ya, sometimes, It works, but sometimes It sucks. I don't know why, but seems to be related to some SU version and permissions' bugs...
Hope it could help some of you.

Is that the same as doing it through Clockworkmod advanced/wipe battery stats?
It is normally the same thing, I prefer IMO to do it manually.
Just trust yourself

Was there really any need to create this thread in Q&A and then 30 mins later create the exact same thread in general?
If you read the FAQ on the SiyahKernel v2.0 thread it clearly states:
Q: do I need to recalibrate the battery?
A: You don't need to calibrate battery for SGS2. Thanks to Entropy512 to pointing out that our device uses MAX17042 which is specifically designed not to require calibration.
Therefore it is not a battery calibration error, you should get your battery checked or replaced as it may be faulty. Good luck!
Of course, no.
Sorry for duplicate that thread.

I've already read it.
But the fact is I am not the only one who gets issue with battery calibration, when flashin new kernel/ROM.
Shall we all replace our battery for a new one ? I don't think so at first sight.
In addition, many people notice calibration really works and make the battery more accurate than before... Common placebo or what ?
Hmmm...
It's definitely weird if powering off your device still drains as much as 10% overnight. I don't think any battery calibration can stop the phone from draining when off.
Have you tried reflashing a stock rom? From my experiences, the stock rom gave me the longest battery life when I first got my phone, but that may just be the fact the phone was new.
No, I've been stayed with Revolution ROM for a while.
At the beginning, never had this dropping issue. Seems to starting after flashing Revo 2.7.1 and Siyah' kernel, but not 100% sure.
It is very strange cause, I use it normally and battery is working fine : no decreasing on deep sleep.

Here is something I just noticed I sometimes wipe my battery stats once I get a full charge on a new rom. I always wipe and flash using fastboot boot recovery.img.
Roms always run fine smooth no issues. But for some reason if I go and wipe my battery stats after a full charge my gauge will lock up and the battery chart doesn't work anymore...
Even a reflash and wipe doesn't help. What would cause this issue?
Im on hboot 1.5
I know back when I would just flash the boot.img then the rom.. I never had issues wipeing my battery stats....
So anyone else have this issue?
I know folks say you don't need to but some times you do need to if you flash a rom and for some reason your battery gauge sticks at 99% green light... Will never hit 100%..
it eventually will hit 100%... you have to charge it while the phone is off just once and it will green light while off... then boot up and charge again and it will hit 100...
also, what exactly do you mean by the battery chart??
it shouldn't have an issue because your voltage/charge is monitored by the kernel... kind of an odd little anomaly to be honest.

Well damn I just reflashed the other method and still nothing is workin in the graph chart thing...

here's the thing, the reason why you are not seeing anything in your battery usage is because that's exactly what the batterystats.bin file is - it is a data dump of statistics... what has been using your battery, for how long, all kinds of mathematical outputs of screen on usage, awake time, apps, so on and so forth... converts all of that into a percentage and that's what you are seeing in your settings/battery usage.
so, accordingly, when you delete batterystats.bin, all of those statistics are gone and you have nothing to display. after a charge cycle or so, you will see that information displayed again.
again, batterystats.bin is simply the statistics of what has been using the battery. has nothing to do with the phone's actually ability to display the correct percentage, get a full charge, etc... that is ALL the Linux kernel which is your power management for the device.
wiping batterystats is truly unnecessary. does nothing for your battery life, and flashing a ROM then wiping battery stats is useless too because when you flash a ROM you wipe data... and the batterystats.bin is found in /data/system... so effectively you are wiping battery stats every time you flash a ROM.
but to go back to the OP... not sure why your percentage is not being displayed correctly... sounds like a ROM issue.

Ya I pulled the battery let the phone discharge and put it back in finally got everything working again ... I was on nightlys a few days ago and flashed one last night that was when I had some funky issues with the battery gauge after doing a wipe.
I only do a wipe if the gauge gets dicked up...
Anyways thanks man... Hopefully I fixed this sucker...
yeah, definitely was a ROM issue...
hope it's worked out and no problem man. hope all that rambling made sense, haha.
