Ok so i have a dell streak that i busted the lcd on. I went and bought a new phone and theres some stuff i need off the streak. I cant see anything on the screen so i was wondering if its possible to connect to the phones internal sd card from a computer, like u normally do with th external sd card. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
You can remove the inner sd and hook it up to a pc, but it's partitioned and formatted differently.
If you reformat and repartition it to work like a normal card it wont be able to be used to boot a streak anymore.
If you wanna grab your contents off it you'll prob do it easiest though linux, though i dont know the specifics
What are you trying to get off of your Streak?
If you set the phone up with gmail your contacts will be backed up there and even if you don't have an Android phone now you can export them from the gmail web page and then probably import them into your new phone.
This thread or one of the screen replacement guides shows how to disassemble the phone to get to the card, you can also make the card accessible like this. I have notched a non-working Streak as was done in the picture and it only takes a few minutes with an exacto/razor knife even if you are being careful.
How you get to the card depends on what you want to do with it now that it's broken and how badly you want access to the card. The partitions are formatted ext3 and can be accessed with a linux live cd/dvd once you remove it from the phone if you don't have a linux box setup.
edit: if you notch the cover the internal sd card slides out to the left if you are looking at the phone from the back with the flash at the top.
I do actually have an android phone... I need my notes from ak notepad mostly, and other things would be nice to have. I figure if i could get to the contents i could prolly get the notes as theyre prolly in .txt format or something. If it would be easier from a nandroid backup, i nandroided the morning the phone broke

It appears that AK notepad saves the notes in a proprietary format and to get plain text you have to export the notes to your sd card. See their FAQ. You might want to email them and ask the best way to recover your notes.
Well i guess i'll try removing the internal sd since its gonna be taken apart soon ayway when my replacement screen comes in
Thanks for the help!!

You have to connect the card to a computer that can read the ext3 file system. Sounds like you connected it to a windows box. You can download a linux live CD/DVD and boot that from your CD or DVD drive and you will probably be able to plug it in and see the contents.
I recommend Linux Mint or you can try this, which is an application that allows windows to read ext3. I would not use the windows application to write to the card.
I tried both ways you said to try marvin02. Linux Mint wouldn't read the card reader for some reason. The link you gave for the windows ext reader doesnt work with windows 7 so i googled windows 7 ext3 and found a program that works. Ran it and its reading the card. I installed ak notepad on my new phone and tried to copy everything i could over and see if somehow it would read the old notes, no luck. I think the way my new phone installs apps and data is different than the old one and has a different folder structure.
Is there any other solution anyone could think of?
Went to look at some pics off my SD card last night and realized that the phone had deleted them.
But what was weird, beside the fact that they got deleted, was that the phone didn't delete all my pictures. Out of about 200 pics, it deleted around 190 of them. Very strange.
Has this happened to anyone else??
Not I. The SD Card and the pictures contained should be virtually untouchable without direct user interaction. Did you possibly put them on the external SD? Are you trusting Gallery or did you check with a file manager as well? Lastly, have you used HTC sync or any other tool that could copy/backup these pictures(and maybe delete them after sync)
Same thing happened to me. Lost about 90% of my pics. Don't know how it happened. Was able to recover most of them using a program that is on hirem's boot cd.

I used ASTRO file manager to double check that the pictures were actually deleted.
I don't sync my phone with my computer so I don't know how the pictures would have been deleted.
Needless to say, it's very disconcerting that my SD card could be vulnerable to something like this. I can understand, somewhat, if it was the phones internal storage, but not my SD card.
Luckily I had backed up my SD card on my computer recently (copy and paste method) so I didn't lose too many pictures.

I would say keep your SD backed up and if it happens again exchange the phone.

as a backup method, you could use sugarsync. They have a 5gb free account and can back up all pictures and videos automatically.
Hey everybody, let me speak to this.
More than likely your pictures are NOT deleted.
This has happened to me several times. I'd open the gallery and would not see any of my pictures, save for a few that are on the Phone Storage.
All I did was 'unmount' and 'remount' the SD card in the settings menu under 'SD & Phone Storage.
I have not been able to pinpoint the exact cause of the external SD mount getting jacked, but it might be around the USB debugging, or setting your phone to usb disk drive mode.
Anyway, a quick unmount/remount, and all my pictures were back in the gallery. I hope the same works for you, good luck!
There was also an issue where if you where flashing boot.IMG through hboot they were being ereased. Check out dsb kernel thread over at team bamf.

I was just reading that thread!
I think they were talking about the internal card and not the external though. Still, something to watch out for. Always good to make a back up of everything before flashing.
So I have the 16 GB BBY WiFi-Only Flyer. The ONLY ROM that allows me to read sd card music and photos is Mwakious. Any other ROM, no apps except file managers can read the sd. Any ideas? I have formatted the sd, rebooted, cleared media storage data, cleared caches, etc. I am at a loss. Help, please!
US builds of honeycomb weren't build to read external storage for media (photos, music)
this is rectified in ICS. unfortunately for us we'll have to wait...
Well, they won't read the internal sd either.

I’m using a Best Buy flyer with a US build of HoneyComb (with all my Music, Movies and Pictures on the external card.) and it has no problem reading my external sdcard.

Seriuly, that's aperfectly bizarre claim. My Honeycomb Flyer has no trouble reading either of the internal memory partitions or my external SD card. In fact, the external card is where I keep my movies.
Now true, it does take the machine a bit to discover the card on first boot, but it will see it eventually.

I created a folder called Media on my external sd card with subfolders for movies, books, music and pictures and have no problems with the system reading all my files.
I then moved all the books (the free ones that come with honeycomb) to my external Media/Books and rebooted.
At boot I get a notification that books were imported and they now appear in the My Shelf widget.
Now back to the OP problem I would suggest a full wipe and clean install for any Rom.
Of course this means you’ll have to reinstall all your apps and rebuild your home screens.
I would not restore any system data from a backup.
This although not a universal issue, is not an uncommon problem. I have had this happen to me while moving from rom to rom after doing a full wipe. If you search it out there are a couple of threads to this effect. I have always managed to get my media to be visable after some effort. I have wiped caches, cleared app data, created a in.nomedia folder in the music directory, unmounted and mounted sd cards, moved the files from internal to sd, used power amp free trail and played music from there, etc. Eventually something pops.
Now mwakious will see I have 7 songs and my photos. Not all my music or photos. Its not that it hasn't loaded them yet

it happens when you do a complete wipe. I have a nandroid backup of when I first flashed globatrons s off method. If I restore that then flash any rom with out a wipe my music files are all visable. If I wipe then flash I have to play games with my media till they are visable but I am always able to get them visable after enough tinkering.
Well, I went to Lee Droid since it's my fav, but still nothing with my sd. I hope I can get it to work. If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to post them.
I had the same problem last night with DeSensed-View Version 1.5. (My girlfriend also had similar problems with the stock Honeycomb ROM - part of the reason she wanted me to revert her back to GB.)
I have all of my images stored in internal memory in a folder called "Pictures," and all of my videos in a folder called (gasp) "Videos." When I go into the gallery, it only shows content from the DCIM folder and Picasa/Google+. So I went into ES File Explorer and clicked on a picture... it wouldn't open. Long-press, "Open As," "Image," nothing... didn't open at all. When I click a video, it gives me the option to open with the Gallery app, and that works fine, but the videos never show up in folders in the Gallery app. So basically, I can never view any of the images in a folder other than DCIM, and I have to go through a file explorer to get to my videos. Needless to say, I went back to Gingerbread before the night was through.
Rather frustrating problem...
Just so you guys know, my media still hasn't shown up.
Have you tried moving your media files to your dcm folder?

First off, I'm on Phone Bricker 2.2. When plugged into my PC, it mounts my phone/card as a media device, so it doesn't assign it a drive letter.
I've used programs in the past in Windows that will search drives for large files/folders and identify them, and I like to do this from time to time on my phone, as space runs out, so that I don't have completely scour my card for some folder that's getting filled up with junk or whatever. My only problem is that with my computers mounting my phone as a media drive, none of my programs I've used in the past can search them, as there is no drive letter associated with the phone or the card.
Anyone got any suggestions?
i thought there was an app that mounted the phone with a drive letter. I'll see if I can find it. I'm not sure what you can do as a "workaround".
I use an app called storage analyser, it's free in the market. It helps you identify large files taking up space.

Thank you so much! The app is so nice, it recognizes multiple mount points so both internal memory and card can be search independently. Perfect for this phone.

Hi guys,
I was previously using a Galaxy Nexus but exchanged it for an S3. The main deciding factor was because the S3 has support for SD cards. I have a lot of music, and I wanted to benefit from more storage than the Galaxy Nexus had built in.
I immediately had trouble copying data to my SD card, but after some google searching I figured out how to get Bit Torrent Sync to sync music to my phone from my computer. It was just a matter of naming the folders a certain way. I also synced my picture collection to my SD card as well. That worked fine too.
However, my favorite music player (Player Pro) and my favorite picture viewer (Quick Pic) cannot see media on my SD card. Player Pro cannot see any MP3's and Quick Pic cannot see any pictures. I've been Googling for a couple of days, and I'm getting more frustrated. I find countless topics about how to write data to an SD card, but I can't find any good topics on how to READ data stored on an SD card. Both apps can't see a thing. I even tried Google Play Music (which I loathe and don't like using) and it can't see any of my music files on my SD card either.
It's almost as if the SD card is locked from reading. I read a lot of forum posts all over the Internet talking about being unable to write, but nothing about being unable to read.
Is there some magic to get these apps to see media on the SD card?

Download any file manager from Playstore. I like "Es File Explorer". It's free and very good. And see manually if the MP3's are in the directory where you want them to be.

Are they in MP3 format?
Well, I don't even understand. Try to tap on them and start through ES File Explorer manually. They should start playing.
What kind of SD card? What format is it in? If you go into Settings / Storage - does it display your SD card there? If you plug the phone back to the PC, can you play MP3s and see your pictures through the computers media players?
Thanks for your reply. Yes, MP3 format and yes, they do start playing if I tap individual files. It's just that apps can't find media on the sd card. I've read that kit kat changed the way apps access sd cards, so I'm wondering if that's why I'm having problems?

If you are rooted, then that is an easy fix.
The other way to test this is to use the built in Music player from Samsung. If it reads all the MP3s, then it's probably the SD card issue.

The stock music player doesn't see music either. I thought about rooting my phone, but it seems like all the instructions are for Windows. I don't have a Windows computer, I'm all Linux (even at work). I'd rather not install Windows just to root my phone if I don't have to.

Thank you so much! The issue is now solved!
Here is what the problem was. Kit Kat prevents apps from not only writing to sd cards, but reading from them as well. Each app can only read and write to their own specific folder on the sd card. In my case, I was using Bit Torrent Sync to handle syncing music from my PC to my phone (as I always have) and in order to get Bit Torrent Sync to work, I had to set it up in the following folder on the sd card:
Android/data/com.bittorrent.sync/music
The problem was, that Kit Kat prevented all my media apps from scanning that folder, since it enforces it to belong to Bit Torrent Sync, and will not allow another app to even touch it. I have no idea why ES File Explorer was able to open it and play music from within that folder. Perhaps it bypasses Kit Kat's restriction somehow.
So, I used towelroot as mentioned above and installed SuperSU, then, I downloaded and installed the sdcard fix from the play store and ran it.
After running the sd card fix, it said it enabled normal sd card usage. But it STILL didn't work. But after rebooting my phone, all my media apps (including Player Pro) immediately started seeing my media and everything seems to be back to normal!
If Google patches Android to prevent this fix from working in the future, I am officially done with this platform. There's no excuse for someone to have to go to this extreme just to get something as simple MP3's seen by a music playing app. I can understand the security improvement of this, but they shouldn't be preventing normal usage of a device.
Thanks so much, I appreciate the help! I hope my steps above helps someone else.
