Need ROM Info / ?s - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Currently I have:
Firmware 2.2.1
Baseband: S:i500.04 V.EB01
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: SCH-I500.EB01
What is the latest, stable ROM out there for Froyo (or if exists, Gingerbread)?
Is overclocking available yet? My phone is rooted already.
If I wanted to revert back to the current ROM I have now, how do I properly back up the entire ROM, Apps, SMS, settings, etc prior to upgrading?
Thanks

-yes, take a look at one of nemisis2all's kernels
-nandroid backup + titanium backup.
Also, I'm 99.9% sure that the next posts here WILL consist of people flaming you for posting here instead of the q&a sub-forum. There's a reason we have it, ya know. Please use it.

Well, at least it doesn't happen that often anymore, lol.
Please use the Q&A section for questions, now that we have one. First reply should have all your answers.
Also, using the search function is nice.

10 Posts first....

Am I understanding this correctly? I need to post 10 times in General or Q/A before I can post in Development thread?
I don't have any Q/A posts to create other than this and I don't have any general questions.
All I wanted to do was post to a thread that the Kernel is running great and no issues so far.
The only question I have is the following:
Should I post then new posts that are useless to get my count up
or
Post back to this thread I created 10 times?
I am leaning toward the latter but before I do I want to make sure I do not get anyones panties in a bunch. If this is an issue I'll just leave it as is and stick to reading.
If you just wanted to thank the dev who made the kernel, you could always just click the thanks button.

From my understanding of this forum, this isn't like other forums where you would post all questions and comments that are related to development in the development section. Since this is xda-DEVELOPERS they seem to assume that all questions are going to be related to development.
So all regular comments go in the General section, and all Questions go in the Q&A section. I believe they want you to post in the dev section only if you are developing something (a kernal, a rom, a mod like CWM).
If you want to report success on a specific rom or kernel, couldn't you just hit "reply" in the thread for that kernel? That's what I usually do.
Also, this will probably keep you from getting griped at by lots and lots of wannabe moderators (in addition to the real moderators).
Yea I know how u feel I'm on number 4 I think so this will be 5 half way there.

Questions belong in Q&A. Questions/problems on a specific ROM/KERNEL/MOD in the development forum belong in the thread related to what you have the question/problem with, not in a new topic. The development forum is for releases of stuff only, along with discussion in the same thread about said releases.
thanks for the clarification. one of these days i will get my 10 post in to thank all the hard working developers

Same here I was going to post in the developers kernel thread to provide feedback as it was new and they look for feedback.
This rule I can understand for new posts but for replying to existing posts I don't understand other than the fact you get a lot of people that post in wrong places all the time. However this will happen with this rule in place or not as they can reach ten posts pretty quickly.
Either way just found it an odd rule. Some forums do a "you must be a member for X days before you can post". This rule allows new members to do reading before they just start posting all over the joint. That one I understand.

Devs do check out the Q/A and general section too, so you dont have to post in their thread if you have a problem.
One good thing regarding the 10 post is that people wont post a thread with a question in the development section. A lot of people who accidentally post there says that their question has to do with development, and so they decided to post there instead of Q/A or general section. If people with a lot of posts still does this, by accident or not, imagine how much work mods will have to do if anyone can post there and is new to the forum.

CM7 Flashing Question

Hey guys,
when flashed, do the nightly builds of cm7 completely overwrite and erase the preexisting information on the phone (apps, contacts), or does it simply apply any patches or updates without modifying user data?
Thanks

Yea you know I'm not quite sure where the mods have been but it's been a bit of a free for all around here. There is actually a general and q & a section on here ....I mean, there is a post in the development section that says:
[ROM] cm7 nightly Discussion.......
What does that even mean? At first I thought it was a new rom but realized it was someone who actually posted a discussion thread in the development section when we have a whole section devoted just to general stuff. If I was jt reading through the nightly thread my blood would boil over the amount of useless BS clutter.

Well the reason I didn't post in some thread is because you don't get notified if someone replied to your question... as long as the question is relevant what should the location matter?

Its amazing how someone posts in the wrong section the thread gets at least 5 responses all of which were how the OP posted in the wrong section.
So to answer the OPs question, the only way it will remove your personal data is when you are in recovery and wipe Data. And if you have your Contacts saved to your Gmail account they will get restored when you wipe data.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Dev forum once require you to be a recognized and registered developer in order to start a thread? Or was I just dreaming?

So you mean the bad moderation of answering the question and then moving the thread to the correct area after the OP has been told they posted in the wrong section, its so funny how people automatically thinks a new user is gonna know exactly where to post, considering how many posts that are in the wrong section are probably gonna be from a person who posts in the wrong section and then won't be heard again. But they are definitely never gonna be heard of if they post something and never get a answer, but all they get is criticism, seriously people, just let the OP know wrong section, but at least answer the question.
Or even better just merge all the sections together so there is no longer a need to say WRONG SECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Survey says..... #1 answer is NO.
You need to be running 2.3.2, check for the applicable flashes to downgrade in the sticky threads, and double-check everything first. I believe SuperOneClick includes the GingerBreak method, which works on the GSM versions of 2.3.2. That hole was patched in 2.3.3 (and for 2.3.2 for USA CDMA version on Verizon Wireless).

Maybe if the "noobs" followed the rules, and didnt spam development with stupid questions, they would be able to find the relevent development thread with the answers to there questions and the op isnt a noob, he has made nearly 160 posts he should know the forum rules
When you have subscribed to the Dev forum waiting for something to happen in the dev field (which finally seems to be the case) it is a bit... style-cramping to see this kind of posts, so to say.

SGS2 ATT Official Stock ROM 2.3.4

Hi,
I have been searching the forum for ATT Official 2.3.4 stock ROM. I am new to Android and planning to put in a Custom ROM in my SGS2. But before I do that, I wanted to have the Official ATT 2.3.4 ROM so that in case any issues I can flash that back. Also I did read about keeping the flash counter intact. I primarily want to be prepared before I start with it. Please share if there is a link available.
Thanks
Seriously? The Development forum is only 4 pages long and you're too lazy to even skim thread titles there?
I suggest you go back and read the XDA rules again. Search before posting.

Your reactive comment is really uncalled for. People are here to help, and they do not get paid to be here, but some find it a little tiring when people appear to ask questions before they even look for the answer.
I understand that to a new person, sometimes you don't even have a point of reference to know what you are looking for. What you need can be found in the development forum as "Unbrick/return to stock by Entropy512."
Also refer to the sticky topic "Library" in the development section, and the sticky topic "FAQ" in the general section.
Edit: OK I see you removed your reactive comment, so I removed it from the quote also.
My bad..sorry about the reactive comment.
I am a new user to Android and just moved from iPhone. I do appreciate the DEVS work and understand it is an extra responsibility for you.
I had rooted and unlocked my SGS2 but being extra cautious not to brick it when flashing the ROM. I maybe should have read through all the posts irrespective of the title

If we spoonfed every new person that comes here to XDA we wouldn't have enough room for actual development dude. So what you are suggestion is basically ridiculous. I want to come here for development. Not a bunch of links and "how to" posts. Searching is a good thing.

I tried searching, but a lot of times, its confusing on which Rom is actually the stock version which would return everything as before.
I looked at restoring the phone thread and couple of others which also say they are stock rom, hence the confusion.
There is no point in fighting. I got my answer, so its ok if people got mad at me for asking a question. They will forget about it in a couple of hours, and I will try to search a little more next time.

This thread is getting funny, not because of the OP's question but 'cuz of the resurrection.

Lil' Phone Bricker update.

I have 2.3 version of phone bricker and I want to update to the 2.5 version, can I save it to my SD card and update through CWM without doing a wipe or losing any data? I've had some issues on 2.3 I figured a new flash or a full wipe would get rid of.
This should be in the lil phone bricker thread.

Update, just clear cache/dalvik for good measure.
But depending on your issues a full wipe may be the best bet mostly if you flashed my Rom coming from another Rom with no wipe.

Point is, if every person with a post count of less than 10 made a question thread we'd have a ton of new threads. Maybe if a dev made a q&a thread for their rom it would make for easier answering of questions for those with a smaller post count . It does suck if u have a question and you can't post in dev section, but at the same time, it pushes those people to contribute in other ways in other places. As well as search, which a lot of new members don't wanna do. They would rather just ask again even if their question has already been answered.
