Used to my beloved Captivate, when I got my hands on the Atrix I rooted it and I erased some of the apps that I didn't want (everything from Bell actually). If I have a System Dump of Bell's ROM for the Atrix, can I just replace everything in the files from where I deleted the apps, reboot, and have an "untouched" Atrix?
I know, I should have read before....but it's done, so...lets face the music.
Thanks
Someone made a system dump of the system folder from the Bell Atrix. Link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004503
To stay safe, I'd restore those files that you deleted and then freeze so they won't start. They might be needed for future updates.

Not sure how this happened, but missing two files in my system - long names but they include:
providers.talk
apps.gtalkservice
Just noticed the problem after installing Axura 204 yesterday, my first custom rom. Prior, I was OCLF and root, did the ext, etc stuff with oclf..
In TB, they show up as backed up and un-unstalled, if that makes any sense. There is no option to restore the files in TB. Is it possible that the rom itself delivered with the files botched? Any way to get them replaced?
As has been mentioned many before, I can't download from market and can't log into gtalk. I've already tried the oft mentioned tricks, n nothing works. In my case the 2 files are missing.
That is odd they are missing... everything running okay? You might want to flash again or check the md5 sum (probably not the case).
OR, you could just extract the zip on your pc and grab those .apk files and drop them in system/app and reboot.
Excellent thinking. I'll have a look tonite. Wonder if this happened during batch restore app's w TB? Otherwise, totally stoked with the flash!
I always choose to re-load via Odin then install the custom ROM. Axura's have never been a challenge for me.
Guys, I'm prob going to reflash the rom and then do a careful restore app's - one at a time. Anything I need to be be cautious about? I'm not into Odin yet, and haven't connected to computer yet. Would prefer not to.
Hehe, my first custom rom and now my first re-flash..
Continuing on, and hope someone is still with me on this. Couldn't figure out how to reflash Axura with Rom Manager, so then connected to comp and copied Axura 204 Zip to comp and extracted files. A full search of these files showed only one result for "talk" :
Talk.apk
A search of my phone's sys shows 3 files - the ones I mentioned initially above and:
Android.talk
Please note that these are tar.gz files within my original, pre 2.2 TB backup. Expanding these out shows mostly just empty folders, no .apk files..
Is it likely that a 2.2 build only requires the (talk.apk) to log into Gtalk and use the Market? After all, it's the only talk file present in my axura 204 zip which was acquired thru the official site. Can someone with working Axura 204 and Market search their phone for files including "talk". Mine only includes Talk.apk
Hello,
This is regarding the folder SDCARD on SGT10.1.
Is it safe to delete all data that reside under folder /sdcard? Reason is its too messy in there.
I am going to flash rom/kernel very soon so this is perfect time to clean up and start from scratch.
I dont want to take any backup, just want to rebuild the tablet with clean ROM installation.
Any advice/tips appreciated.

hmmm i guess i will have to do it to find out!!!
If it's external you could do it as it is of your own (if you haven't got important stuff in there). The internal one you must not delete, because I guess it could delete some important files and might cause some problems
i achieved this by going back to stock rom - flashed it with odin and used pit file for recreating the partition so now all wiped and it is now like brand new tablet.
flashing OC2.2 tonight
OK, I'm a noob and made the noob mistake of deleting (rather than freezing) some system apps after rooting. Won't make that mistake again.
I do not have backups nor am I completely sure which apps are missing. As a result of these missing apps I cannot complete the latest OTA update.
I downloaded a system dump and noted a few apk files in it that were not on my system though I believe that there are other apk files missing which are not in the system dump (MyLibrary, WebStorage etc) so I am not sure the particular system dump I got is up to date.
Copying the apk files to my system\app folder did not help, the update still fails.
I seem to recall seeing instructions somewhere for manual installation via power/down volume which would allow you to see a text dump of the update with reports of missing files or mismatched CRC's. I cannot find this again but such a thing would help me determine what is missing so that I can then attempt to find replacement apk files.
Sorry for being such a noob. Can anyone help?
Thanks
Made the same mistake when upgrading to ICS from Honeycomb...
If you get the previous update (the one your running now) from the Asus website, extract the update file and place it in one of the folders on the tablet, (I forgot which folder, sorry...) reboot and the tab will recognize it and prompt you to update. Once that update is finished installing, you should have all your bloat back. Delete the update file from the tab since you don't need it anymore, and then try to update to the most recent OTA Update.
Just do a search in the TFP forums and you should find complete instructions on how to do this.
I'm just assuming this will work for ICS to ICS... because it worked for me when I updated to ICS to Honeycomb...
Hope this method works for you.
I had the same issue.
Download:
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/TF201/US_epaduser9_4_2_11UpdateLauncher.zip
Once downloaded, extract the contents of the zip file (yes, its another zip file of the same name inside) to your MICRO SD. put your micro SD in your TF201 (or eject and re-insert if you copied via cable)
Once the card is mounted you will see a triangle with an "!" in the notification area. Touch the notification and it will open a dialogue to install the manual update.
You will lose root, even with OTA Rootkeeper.
Re-root your device. Install OTA Rootkeeper if you have not already. Run Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. Protect your su.
Check for updates. Install .13 OTA.

Should be a lesson learned. Stop messing with system apps. Always causes problems one way or another. The apps included are nothing to even be considered bloat. I still have everything installed n prime super fast. If anything just freeze the apps, never delete them unless u always want to have failed OTA.

I agree completely, and my lesson is learned. But why on earth would a freaking E-reader app be a system app?
That was my hangup. AsusReader a/k/a the My Library app.
And mine was backed up with Titanium, which obviously bungled it since it would not restore.

I went through the same thing on my Atrix phone. Rooted n went messing around deleting at&t bloatware. It killed my OTA updating. That's why now I'm still on froyo on it. Never bothered to manually update it. Still works great on froyo though. But I learned my lesson from that.

Your still on froyo... why not just flash a sbf file to return to stock? Or better yet, unlock the boot loader and get yourself CM7 already.
Messing with system files isn't a big deal, as long as you have a backup.

Yep, this did the trick. Thanks very much.
Lesson learned, don't mess with the system apps.
I know with the DroidX, with each release, someone would pull the System and Data folders and post the .apks for those of us that screwed up and lost our original backups when it came time to take an OTA. Well, i am one of those screw ups. When I installed safe strap I made a back up. And then, I removed some bloat, and made another backup...not realizing that it over wrote my original
So, is there anything like the DX repository of .apks for those of us that need them to take the OTA for ICS? Im on 181 if it matters....
don't feel bad
I just discovered I don't have vcast video. I thought I had recovered all the bloat. Sigh. Rooting again.
in the system.ext3 folder or from an extracted rom... i'm noobe
i can find paths
I had everything packed and zipped up but have a slow connection and will take forver to up. Its just all the .apk for the apps unless you need more. Can try tomorrow when I get home if nobody does it by then.
Hello everyone. I am very new to rooting/flashing so bear with me.
I've been searching this site for answers all day and can't seem to find one.
I accidentally deleted the folder storage/emulated/0 on my rooted Verizon Galaxy S4.
What exactly was in the folder? Was it just media such as photos and music etc. or was there data that was necessary for the phone to operate correctly?
So far, the only thing I have noticed that has been deleted are pictures and music. My settings are still the same and my apps all work.
I just want to make sure I didn't delete anything that was needed.
If I did delete things that are needed, would I have to flash the original rom, and then re-root?
Or, could I just flash a new rom and forget about my deleted files?
That folder leads to the internal SD card of the device. No system files were harmed in the process.
