ADD version: it's a recovery method that allows for more advanced options during recovery than the built in recovery mode.

After foolishly flashing cwm with goomanager,I managed to remove my recovery mode. Booting to recovery makes the phone go into odin mode and say unable to boot. Can I flash the custom recovery or do I have to flash a stock image?

Just use the aio root and recovery tool from your PC...first use prep for recovery option then install the custom cwm or twrp versions from there...after that you can flash a newer version from there...make sure you download loki'd versions only...this is assuming you are still mkd...if not you are lucky not to have bricked your s4
Hello guys,
I would like to install the official CM Mod.
I read the guide here : http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_tf201
My TF201 is unlocked, rooted, ADB and fastboot are ok, i flash the recovery-clockwork.img (koush's recovery) but i'm unable to entered on the recovery mod.
If i try with the hardware key and select "RCK", it display "Booting recovery kernel image", and it stuck....
I try to reflash the recovery image with fastboot, flash is ok, but unable to enteterd in recovery mod.
If i use the software "Rom Manager" it detect i have the recovery : "ClockWorkMod 5.8.3.4" and if i select "Reboot into recovery", the device reboots and stuck on the first screen with the "ASUS" logo. Stuck, and the only way is to reboot with hardware key.
For information here is my current stock OS : Android version 4.1.1, build number : JRO03C.WW_epad-10.4.2.18-20121122
Anyone can help me in order to entered in the recovery mod please ?
Thanks a lot.
Best regars,

I just installed Cyanogenmod. In the recovery there's no option to backup or restore (and the apply update always fails the signature verification). All I see on the recovery screen is
Reboot system now
Apply update]
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Wipe media
Reboot to bootloader
Power down
Viw recovery logs
How can I backup/restore? It's my understanding that recoveries are designed for the stock kernel, and Cyanogenmod came with it's own kernel? I didn't know this because Cyanogenmod is a ROM, not a kernel
CyanogenMod Recovery is very basic. Flash another recovery more advanced for your phone.

Download rashr from playstore. That worked for me.
Also make sure that in developer settings, that it doesn't update recovery when you update Cm. Make sure it's off, and you'll keep your recovery. I flashed twrp. That worked well for me with the CM recovery.
If Rashr does not work (sometimes it doesn't for me), use fastboot:
1. Download the TWRP.img from their website https://twrp.me/devices/sonyxperiaz2.html
2. connect your phone into fastbootmode (shut down phone, press volume up and connect usb cable)
3. do the following command, to flash the recovery:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.6.0-sirius.img

Yea, I'd like to know why there is no recovery in Cynogen recovery.
And if we install another recovery, doesn't that wipe our phone?
All stock how do you access recovery mode?
Not, Sony stock doesn't include a recovery mode.
Hello together,
I currently want to install a custom recovery twrp for lineage os.
I come to Download mode. But I can't reboot to recovery because the volume up button is not Working any more.
When I reboot in normak mode and from there to recovery mode using adb reboot recovery then the custom recovery is overwritten.
As I read this is a "feature" in the Samsung Software that recovery id overwritten with stock recovery during normal boot.
So the question is: can i boot from download mode to recovery with software. In odin mode i can't connect using adb. As there is no fastboot for Samsung devices I can't connect using a command line adb. So any chance to do it with defect volume up button?
Thanks for any ideas in advance.
Have you root access? I don't think, but if you have you can use "flashify" to flash twrp.img in recovery partition and then use "Reboot to recovery" to boot twrp. You find both in play store.
Edit: you can flash a old 4.1 firmware and use this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238 to have SuperSU and cwm, then in cwm you can flash twrp in zip file
Tapastalking
Thanks
Hi thanks for the idea. This was the other option but needs root. I thought there is an easy solution with something like adb in odin mode. In fastboot I could do that.... so I thoguht there might be a pendant with Samsung smartphones.
You need root to change the recovery.
Beamed in by telepathy.
It worked but Encryption failed and after the password lineageos hangs.
Is there any possibility to boot into Recovery from odin / download mode using adb or anything other.
With a jig i will come to download mode.
