When I go into the gallery and click on folders it jumps back to the home screen.. tried battery pull mounting and unmounting the sd card have not tried this with internal for fear of messing something up.... any suggestions??
Im guessing you have a corrupted file in the folder. Cut and paste them all somewhere then try again. Then slowly add back pictures until you come up with the same problem, and delete that fill.

This empty directory keeps appearing on my internal and external SD cards. Does anyone else have this problem? Every froyo rom I've used experiences this. Any way to stop it from being created?
There are actually hidden files there if you check the "show hidden files" button
Not sure why they are there either...
Probably has something to do with the phone or rom, idk...

That folder holds all the corrupted or orphaned files found during a file system check. You can delete it but I'm pretty sure it will be recreated again... well that's what happens to me everytime i do it
I just installed Wolfs V7b4 but now my gallery is empty, no music in stock player, ringtones gone. I have tried clearing data in Media Storage, fixing permissions, installing SDrescan which just said "done" after starting :s
Wolf mentioned app StudioKUMA.nomedia which can exclude folders from scanning for faster boot so i installed it to check it anything is excluded but none of the folders are.
Has someone had that problem or does someone know how i can manually scan for media?
I had this too, but i fixed it by formatting my SD card and but the files back on it. So just copy everything from your SD card, then format SD card and than put everything back. I hope this helped for you

Search on the market for an app that may rescan your media...try the rescan media app
I formated my sd twice now, nothing changed. Restored backup and installed every app I could find for media scanning yet the only thing that has changed is that I have my pics from facebook althou I didnt have them before. Poweramp finds my mp3s and plays them with no problem so I dont think its sd cards fault for this

Thats from the stuido .nomedia app which places a very small file in any directory you want on your sd card which stops the media scanner scanning it, very useful if you have lots of folders with no media in them.....
But a bit of a schoolboy error there!!
Hmm but i used .nomedia app after all that happened and i haven't excluded any folder. Most of my sd is full of music and few pics so i want everything to be available.

If you want everything available dont use .nomedia....
delete all .nomedia files....
I find it easier to have all music in one folder with subdirectories and the same for pics and videos...
I havent used it in first place, I have no idea how it ended up on my phone.
Got only one 13gb folder with music and 150mb of pics in camera folder.

I tried copying a Rom to my SD and got a popup saying that there wasn't enough space(although in visable space my SD was almost empty). Out of curiousity I decided to show hidden files, and deleted the .Trash-1000 folder, which for some odd reason was taking up 18 GB on my SD. This ever happen to anyone else?
Various trash folders can appear, the android system should keep them under control though.
If not, delete it yourself.

never seen this directory. what file app did you use to see it?
In my experience, deleting files on Android doesn't move them to Trash.
I've seen .Trash1000 on my Linux Desktop, so it's probably because of deleting files from your computer while your SD card is mounted as USB storage.

That's where I saw it. I was trying to copy a Rom to my sd, but got an out of space error although I only had ~10 gb visible crap on my sd. Ctrl-H to show hidden and I saw trash, which had like... 18 gb in it. I've noticed that if my sd is mounted and I go to move something to trash from my desktop, it won't go to my desktop trash, but to trash on the sd.

If it went to your desktop trash then it would have to copy all the files to your computer, and waste space on your computer's disk.
IMO "Trash Cans" are pretty pointless. If you're not 100% sure that you want to delete a file, just don't delete it.

Ok so tonight, I decided to clean up my SD card. I had noticed that some how I had 1500 pics on my internal SD card, SO I moved them over to my external one and cleaned everything up a bit, combining all the folders. Now when I go into my phone and SD card, all the pics are TINY in size. LIke if the pic before was the size of the screen, now its 1x1 inch. I use wallpaper wizzadrii to set my wallpapers and its setting them all for TINY as well.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
you probably copied the thumbnails
I did now what?

If you deleted the actual pictures and are just now stuck with the thumbnails try an app called DiskDigger. It'll find your deleted photos if it was just recently done. It won't go as far back as a PC would. But give it a shot. Oh yea, must be rooted for it I believe.

I wouldn't use an android app, I'd connect the phone to a PC, mount it, then use Recuva to scan it.

going to try that now.
Also, I just realized that all the pics were on my internal storage. I know I never set it up that way. I have always put them on my SD card. For future reference, how do i get everything to be automatically saved to the external SD card?
You mentioned that you cleaned up the images by copying them from your internal SD to your external one - if what you're trying doesn't work, do you remember which folder the files came from? You can just move them back but I have a sinking feeling that you're going to go to your Gallery and when you review your images, you'll see a bunch of white boxes with and 'x' inside which indicates that you're missing the image that was where it was supposed to be when the Gallery accessed your photos. I did something similar a while ago, trying to consolidate photos into a folder on my SD and when I moved the files, I had the white boxes I mentioned. The fastest way to fix the issue is to move ALL images off your SD, go to Gallery, erase ALL, then mount the SD card onto the PC and move images back onto the SD, go to Gallery, and let the thumbnails regenerate.
It's a pain but if you do this once, you'll not do it by accident again. Android does something similar to Apple's iTunes. You can have files in several folders and the program will 'find them' for you but if you move them, you can cause yourself quite a headache.
Good luck!

The app I posted works fine, I've used it before. It looks for only photos whole recuva will find any file ever...
For setting it to external SD that's an option in the camera
Another program you can try is testdisk. It's free and it has recovered everything I've ever needed and then some. I've accessed files on a drive that both windows and OS X told me was not formatted. Got all 450gb off of it and could also retrieve tons of deleted files. It's a computer app, not a phone app.
I was surprised yesterday after re-flashing the stock LSD, and seeing that the media scanner problem draining 60% of the CPU was back.
I had it dont remember if on LS8 or other before, and it was easilly patched by setting the camera folder location to external SD/DCIM and moving everything there. However, with this LSD, that doesn't work anymore :S
There's any way to get rid of this? Or its impossible to make your battery last more than few hours on stock LSD?
Thanks in advance!
I'm on lsd and did the sd thing, no media scanner trouble.
Are you sure the pics are going to the ext sd?
Set it up in camera settings.

Thanks gastonw!
On the camera settings, I've selected external SD as storage option. I've tested and when I make a photo, the image goes there (external SD/DCIM/Camera/.)
However, I just noticed that the thumbnail file, doesn't go to the external/DCIM/.thumbnail, but moves to the internal SD card DCIM folder :S
I've deleted Camera, Galery etc Cache's, the interal SD/DCIM folder has only the 2 empty folders, Camera is set to store on external SD.. and the photos are stored on the external SD and the thumbnails on the internal SD..is this normal?
No it's not and that's why media scanner is going crazy.
Sent from the little guy
:S Any clue why thumbnails are being stored there?
I have no idea, my internal SD/DCIM folder has a .thumbnail folder empty and the Camera folder empty, and the external SD has all the stuff in the same DCIM folders..
What is wrong here? Where is the option to set the thumbnails storage location? apparently it isn't the same than the camera one
Post a screenshot.
Sent from the little guy
What do you mean?; Screenshot of what exactly?
My problem is that media Media scanner runs for 6m33s everytime I reboot the phone (then stops) even with the DCIM folder empty, and that even when the photos get stored in the external SD DCIM's, the gallery thumbnails are stored into the internal one . How can I screenshot this? :S
I dunno, I don't get how a thumbnail is storaged the way you say it's storaged.
Post a pic of the internal DCIM folder and cache.
