So... i have run a few different 2.2.1 Roms. Many people talk about speed improvements and such and i tend to agree. But my question is has anyone experienced the glitchy feeling from them or random spurts of freezing up? In general it seems faster and a little smoother but for me it tends to have more moments of non responsiveness. I'm not complaining or any crap because i know it is a port from the i9000 and all that i just haven't read about anyone else having the issue when discussing the 2.2.1 roms. So wasn't sure it was my phone, or im just crazy, or if it is true. I have run bi winning and frost i think one more i don't remember though.

I've been having a "moment" of laggy glitchy yumminess for the past hour and a half even after 2 restarts and a battery pull, It was working fine before my lunch break but now it's giving me barely anything and I haven't downloaded anything new or changed anything...

Can anyone give me a great reason to flash a 2.2.1 ROM? I know 2.3 should be awesome and I'm more than willing to wait. I've been on Nero V3 for a couple of months and have never had better battery life (I'm on day 3 with 31% remaining and moderate calling in between) or stability. I'm only interested in switching if there's a great reason to. Right now the only reason I can think of, is beacuse there really is no more themeing going on for Nero and I couldn't say that flashing Bionix themes would work either. Random question to help me get through my morning here at work......thanks in advance for all of your input and expertise.

If your happy with what you have. If you have read what the other roms have to offer in them and it doesn't interest you. Then your right it's a Random Pointless Question. Here is a random thought for you. Can you back up the rom your on? Could you then flash several different roms to see what they are about for yourself? That way if none interest you then you can go back to the one your on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've used both and don't see any major difference. Flash whichever ROM you like best.
2.2.1 I9000 ROMS over Nero:
Positives:
-Able to use any I9000 Theme (there are over 30 available, all really good)
-Faster opening of apps and generally less lag
-Better GPS than Nero
-Dead Horse, DOW, Dragon kernels work with it (though they also work on Nero)
Negatives:
Wi-Fi calling will not work.
Hadn't thought much of backing up what I had and then trying something else. I also didn't think much about kernals, just UI changes were all I was thinking of at first. I appreciate your input guys, and I will keep looking at what becomes available. Thanks!
Flash away and find out what you like...roms are like sneakers--one for every occasion and each person.

Try better roms, their better because they have new things nero doesn't have. 2.2.1 is... well it feels the same because i use voodoo, but yeah. It is techinically faster.
3 days and 31%?
OH HELL NAW!
Thats like super light use lol.
2.2.1 has higher quadrants and just feels snappier too. I had darky running on my vibrant with dead horse and jfs lagfix. The phone was ridiculously fast.
Why wait, you are missing out on all the flashing fun... and headache too.
There once was a time when we all like this phone. That is, of course, why we bought them. As time has gone on some of us have become less than impressed with our Samsung phones and Samsung in general. Somethings I have noticed or thought about:
1)Froyo: This has been beaten to death but it's apparent that there is a problem getting 2.2 to correctly operate on our phones for the masses
a)The screen response issue that some of us are having, I believe is related to this.
2)Market Apps: Some apps that I've downloaded have been rated very high (4-5 stars) but when I download them, they don't work. Going back through the reviews there will be scattered bad reviews all of which are GalaxyS phones.
I guess what I'm starting to think is that the phone was flawed from the start.
On the upside, we have the super amoled screen, kaos, adryn, jt, jcase, nitsuj, jamezelle, and many other great people giving us a leg up on this phone.
Has anyone else experienced the app problem? Or anyother problem spanning the Galaxy line?
Screen response problem for sure. I can't use any froyo rom, it is just not usable. I keep hoping that when we get source <cough> this problem will go away. Yes, I am an optimist!
I have 92 apps installed and they all work. But I have also gone with another app when I have seen a review that it didn't work on Galaxy S and there was another good choice, but sometimes I have installed anyway and did not have a problem.
I can't say never, because I have probably installed 150 apps to end up with 92 but I can't recall an apps that I could say did not run right because it was a Galaxy S phone.
On the other hand I do have some issues with the leaked EB01 ROMs. It just is, I troubleshoot until it's fixed or I find a workaround. I could always try a different ROM, a different version, or go back to Stock EB01 or even back to DI01/EA28. I know many people happily using Stock Fascinates with no complaints.
There is nothing inherently wrong with the Galaxy S phones. The two issues you brought up are both software/firmware issues. Not hardware.
I've always felt that screen responsiveness improved A TON from eclair to froyo. But yea it just that samsung wont give us our source (lolwat is aosp? android open source project? i dont understand.)
Actually let someone talk me into getting it when I could have had a droid x. I am just really pissed off that I paid to be neglected by my carrier and my manufacturer.
The Galaxy S line has been out for some time now and nothing. Also my screen responsiveness has been better than my Eris for sure but that doesn't say much. The hardware IS solid but with lack of updates and new phones coming out we are already behind the curve.
And don't even get me started on the battery drain issues and batteries from other phones don't work.
At this point I don't care about froyo and would prefer that gingerbread get fixed up.
Just disappointed.

Oh and I forgot to mention how the Nexus S gets GB might out of the door while the rest of the Galaxy S line will be fortunate just to get GPS that works.
Sorry for the new thread, but search is down...
This may be a widely discussed issue, but does anyone else have some serious issues with stock 2.2 from Kies? I've had some problems with random reboots and Wifi glitching out (shows "Error" on status). Phone is also super laggy at times (especially with intense apps like Rhapsody). Except for the occasional capacitive button lag, I haven't really experienced these problems in Bionix...
Does this sound like a hardware issue? Or are these somewhat common problems with stock 2.2?
Very common problems with samsucks ****ty code. Never gonna figure figure out how ppl thay do this **** for free can do a better job than those that get paid to do it.

Yeah, that is pretty ridiculous. Still pretty much problem free on Bionix (as I almost always have been since getting the phone in November).
Would have sold this phone a long time ago if not for TW lol.
So! My mother is on the lookout for a new phone, and this guy is cheap on Verizons site. Her phone that she has now, the LG Revolution, has constant freezing issues that irritate her beyond all belief, and because I know Android she dumps them all on me. I'm looking for some questions answered about this phone before I decide if this is the phone for her:
I have read on the Engadget Review that this phone freezes often. After custom ROMs are installed (I'm thinking MIUI), is this problem alleviated?
The LG Revolution has this weird issue where it's way too easy to scroll on it, which makes opening icons on any homescreen app drawer a huge PITA.
I basically need to be able to install ROM, drop it in her hands, and feel comfortable that she's not going to run into any hardware issues with the phone. This includes freezing because of memory issues.
Also, the drop of 4G isn't an issue, it's not in the area anyways.
Thanks guys for your comments and advice ahead of time.
This device pretty much poops on the revolution. That being said my device never froze when it was stock. We have alot of rom options from mtd based roms such as android 4.0 ICS v4, CM7.1 stable, Miui, Tsm pool party...also there are some really good TouchWiz Ginberbread roms such as, Superclean v.5, PWGB, Geewiz etc... I currently am bouncing between cm7 and ICS, but I cant say those are the best roms, they all are pretty good. You will just have to try them and see what your mother likes best.
No freezing problems here, although it does bug out on me with random pressings of the back key. Sometimes the phone will enter screen capture mode and take a screen shot every time I try to power it down. Removing the screencapture apk solves this.
Overall it has been a good phone and has served me well. Gotta love that Samsung display!
I havent had this device for that long, but I love it compared to by old Droid X, mostly due to nicer screen, better battery life, and easier hack-ability.
That being said, I personally am curious on what has been done, if anything, to the LG.
Has it been rooted?
Are you running aftermarket software?
Some freezing issues can be solved by changing ram parameters, others by getting rid of certain bad apps.
I personally would like to see if your problems are actually solvable before getting a new and unfamiliar device, just for S&G's of course
It is rooted, and even after messing with the ram settings tweaked it still freezes. The other problem is that it dies way quickly, even with JuiceDefender and a calibrated battery. She's only had it for a week, so she's not yet settled on that one's ways.

I've had this phone for almost two years now and I've never had it freeze up on me. Install the SuperClean3 ROM. Solid ROM for that phone. I currently have ICS but for your mother's phone use SC3.

Weird...
Does this happen on multiple ROMs, or just on stock?

Yes he is. Now I know.

I'm also a fan of SuperClean. Great rom, with none of the AOSP issues that I find to be annoying enough to avoid. If you want to tweak it a bit, add KGB kernel and maybe a different launcher (I like OMFGB-Launcher) and Rom Toolbox will handle just about everything else. This is my setup, no major tweaks (lag fix, etc) other than zram and 1.2 gHz overclock. Fast and stable.
Beating a Dead Horse, CM7, CM9, & CM10, Wanted some1 who used these as their DDriver
I know this has been beat to death. I've read most of the latter portion of each thread on these roms, as well as, all the faq's that are stickied. One in particular, had links to videos and was supposed to have launcher and rom reviews but I didn't see any reviews.
The best reviews are buried in the threads but at over 100 pages each, it's tough to catch up.
So far I've had the best performance and success out of CM7. Everything works, minus a few minor details like HDMI. (They finally got that going on the DX many moons ago , but with the Tegra things are probably different)
Ive use almost all of these roms with the exception of CM9. AOKP, both ICS and JB, and I've used Eclipse, and Molten. A couple MIUI's I used to love Wizard00's MIUI and boot menu for overclocking and such for the DX, that was awesome.
On CM10, which I'd prefer to use, I at first had problems getting my home button going. After discovering I was using either too old or too new or a corrupted GAPPS this was fixed. After running CM10 for a while, I thought it got kinda slow. Very slow in fact. Whereas MY DX is running Kitkat just fine (minus the big black blotch on the screen due to damage). Also I noticed the dialer had some issues. I think I remember reading in the CM10 thread or the CM10 OP on how to fix that but can't remember. Most people I've spoken to say to stay on Eclipse or CM7. I also couldn't get the camera working, just a black screen, but maybe a third party camera might fix this. I don't know.
My question is if you were using a DX2 (Bought a new mototola battery for 10 bucks from amazon, and to my surprise it held a charge extremely well despite the date saying 2012 or so. My only problem with GB is that many apps don't run on GB, and it's getting worse each day. The GB stats on G. Play are like 2% and dropping so I'd like to run a newer os.
Does anyone have any recommendations based on long term usage of CM9 and or CM10 so I'll know if working out most of the kinks are possible. Again, I just can't understand how Kitat can run better on the DX than Jellybean on the DX2 Makes zero sense to me. But then that's why I'm asking. I really need the advice from someone who used a dx2 as their daily driver on these roms.
I know people detest recommendation threads, but since this device is pretty much dead development wise. I doubt it'll matter that much.
