Since upgrading to the EB01 Froyo leak (debinged/deodexed) I have wifi issues where every 3 or 4 times I attempt to enable it, it will fail, and show "Error" under the Wi-Fi settings (where it ususally says in blue text "Turn on Wi-Fi", "Connecting..." "Connected to <network>", etc). I finally got the log message associated with it, and was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to address this?
From what I gather insmod is the kernel's mechanism for (in this case) loading the wifi driver, so this would be an issue with the kernel? So now what?
E/WifiHW ( 2467): return of insmod (args:firmware_path=/system/etc/wifi/bcm4329_sta.bin nvram_path=/system/etc/wifi/nvram_net.txt dhd_watchdog_ms=10 dhd_poll=1) : ret = -1, Invalid argument
At first I thought a reboot was necessary to get it to attempt to reload the driver, but I've since found clearing level 2 ram in the task manager does the trick. Still a big PIA though.
Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem until I flashed the EC10 kernel, hasn't happened since.

So, if I'm not mistaken I can just install the non-voodoo zip w/ Red CWM directly over EB01 with no wiping/cache clearing, etc, and be up and running with no data or configuration loss? Sounds like a pretty quick and easy way to fix my issue.
I haven't been following the EC10 thread, but I just took a look and looks like the static issue when the screen comes on during a call is fixed as well, the only other issue I've had.
Guess I may have to give it a shot! How long have you been using it?
KF
I've been using it for a couple days and have to say that it combined with SuperClean 2.9 has made my phone super smooth. I haven't found a single glitch so far.
Took the plunge and updated to EC10 last night. I've had only a brief time to play around with it, but so far so good with the wifi. Thanks for the help!
Could just be my mind playing tricks on me, but I could swear in general everything is more responsive as well... Not only loading apps, but when I brought up navigation this morning I've never once seen it lock on and start driving directions this fast.
Nevermind... Same problem still with EC10. Got my hopes up there for a minute.
I got the same problem with SC 2.9.2v and had with any other SC Froyo build. I'm using JuiceDefender so WiFi is turned on/off lot of times (every 15 minutes on schedule or when screen is unlocked). Usually once or twice a day I find that there is an error with WiFi and the only way to fix it is to wait couple of minutes and try turning it on manually or switch to airplane mode on/off.
I also use JuiceDefender w/ Wifi. If it doesn't occur less often with EC10 (too soon to tell still), I'll have to disable the wifi controls in JD so it's toggled on/off far less frequently.
Glad to see I'm not the only one seeing it. I bet the JD users will just notice it more since we are loading the wifi driver all the time.
Kidd_Funkadelic
And thanks for the airplane mode tip- I'll have to try that. I was clearing level 2 ram in task manager to do it. AM would be slightly more convenient.
jt1134's source build EC10 didn't help, still having same problem with WiFi. My log is showing the same thing.
At least the new kernel fixed the static issue. One thing at a time, right? I hope that this means there will be ED01 kernel drop
Actually, maybe April Fool's day is a bad choice...
What radio are you using? EB01?
Yes, I did the full Froyo update to EB01 over the stock 2.1 Verizon eclair, then installed the EC10 specifically for this issue. That's all I've done. Oh, went back into CWM after seeing the problem for a few days to clear the Dalvik cache. That's all I've done to date...
OK so it's not radio related but kernel/rom then. I'm on EA28 radio cause I had problems with missed calls with EB01.
Solutions? Bump?
Sorry for reviving this thread, but I have what I think is the same problem (on EB01).
My wifi always works after a reboot, but then if I turn it off and try and turn it back on, it gives me an error message until I either
A) reboot the phone
or
B) repeatedly turn it on and off again (usually takes 3 or 4 times to work again)
Anyone else having this specific problem or know how to fix it?

I was able to get rid if the problem by using Auto Killer Memory Optimizer. It turned out to be a memory issue. Use one of the preset profiles, like aggressive, and see how you do. I was having the problem several times a day and it never came back.
Or, upgrade to PWGB, which takes care if the problem too and doesn't require messing with memory mgmt settings...

I'll start a new one here.
Once I deleted the proxies I was no longer able to update or download new apps from the market. As soon as I put the original settings back I was immediately able to use the market again. Does anyone else get the same behavior after changing those settings?
My market is working fine.
Nope, my market still works fine. Can't see any increase in speeds though
My market is fine with everything zeroed out.
Sent via Evo 3D...mmmmm dual core.
I was having problems watching youtube so I just restored the old settings. Didn't notice much improvement with it on anyway

Ya, exact same problem. Can't access market now.
Any idea why? And why for only some of us??
The market and everything else is still working for me. I didn't get too much of a speed increase from it though.
Sounds like it is location-based. Does this mean that with everything zeroed out, you may or may not be able to access the market depending on where you are sitting at the time? If that's the case, I'm going back to defaults!
I just tried it. Got "A network error has occurred". Hit retry about 4 times and it just started working. Seems flaky with the proxy. Either that or it needed 30 seconds or so to obtain an IP address after I disabled WiFi.

same here.
I was able to fix mine by putting 0.0.0.0.0 as the proxy address and 0 for the port number for both proxies.
When I was having trouble with youtube I had all fields blank.
I've gone from ~600kbps to ~1100kbps download speed. Also my ping has improved significantly. Before it was anywhere between 300 and 1000ms, now it's a steady 200ms

Lols
Lols, I did what someone else suggested---when the market failed, I hit "retry" as fast as I could--probably bout 25-25 times. All of a sudden it worked. And now it works every time.
Talk about an easy fix
Works perfect for me
This wifi driver kernel module "disables" the wifi maximum power management during screen off. The level 2 driver adds it further, changing power saving to off, while on battery power. Hopefully it could increase the wireless strength -- I am testing it.
DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damage caused by the updated kernel module, neither its compatibility. I don't think it would work for any other ROM other than stock 360. Also, make sure you had the bcm4325 wifi instead of bcm4329.
Use at your own risk, always do nandroid backups
To update, either use ClockworkMod or StreakMod recovery, and use any of the attached zip file as update.zip.
Alternatively, you can just replace the /system/lib/modules/dhd.ko and reboot the system.
PS: Thanks to Myshkinbob's hint on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752856
WOW , while i was playing with the cifs another wonder came, i do confirm the cifs module works perfect [on 360], am on the process of testing these modules too, streak-custom-ROM-cooks i appeal you to include these modules in your 2.2 based ROMs.
Thank you again !!!

Wifi streaming is now working flawlessly with screen turned off. The no power saving configuration on battery doesn't seems to improve the signal much. But it doesn't seems to have any significant increase on battery usage, so I suggest to just go for the level 2 version.
Gonna ask the obvious before someone else does
setting wifi sleep to 'never' doesnt accomplish what you want? What happens exactly if you set it to 'never' without loading your module? Is it as described in your link where it goes down to ~100kb/s link speed?
Wonder if porting to another kernel is as simple as using it's matching config.gz like with tun.ko or cifs.ko(?)

No it doesn't -- it is unrelated, actually. The bandwidh limit imposed by maximum power saving is much less than the required bandwidh for streaming FLAC audio. The result is intermittent audio playback with repeating 2-5 seconds silence and audio pattern.
Not to mention that I occasionally experiences IM+ Google Talk, YM, and Jabber session disconnects due to the same problem
Whoops sorry double posted
Any chance of building one of these for 2.3?

I haven't personally tried Gingerbread on my Streak. Probably will never do so due to reasons I won't post here.
But I could probably try building them, although I'll need your help on a couple of info needed.

I believe an app could also prevent wifi to enter max power saving mode on screen off. But to make sure it does, then you have to try streaming some lossless audio with it
I'd be willing to help, but have decided to forego gingerbread for now. One too many random reboots. However I'll help you out as much as I can for the good of the masses.

As you're not currently running 2.3 then I assume you're not in hurry for this. We can schedule it later then
Anyway I don't think many people needs this tweak, so let's just take it easy. Just post back when you're ready with a Streak running 2.3.
Sorry but I should've been able to do this by myself if I had 2.3 installed on my phone. But as stated, I don't have any plan for that

I'm back on the gingerbread bandwagon, however I am having wifi issues and I wonder if your fix can help. Randomly, but quite regularly, the wifi still shows as connected, however there is no data throughput. I'm wondering if it possible that the wifi "power down" is going to low and then not powering back up when the screen comes back on. Would your fix help with that at all? If so, I'm ready to help with it for gingerbread.
can u make one for 354? thanks

can anyone provide me with wifi drivers for 2.3? i have had no wifi for around 6 months and cant bear it no more!
i get a wifi drivers not loaded on the logcat, have tried everything i can manage in my limited adb capabilities, dont think its a hardware issue but want to try something/anything before selling my streak! changing roms, wiping and factory resets have not worked.
anyone??!!

Raz-or,have you tried putting the 360 update.pkg on your root sd card, then run your phone through the qdl tool......after that....start your phone up in stock recovery, and it will install the 360 you put on sd,then upon reboot go back into stock recovery and do a factory reset......after your up and running, wifi should be working now.after doing this....you could put streakmod recovery on....so you can go back in and do a nandroid backup, and be able to do other things it can do

I'm a noob so I can't ask a question in the dev forum on this thread (where it would be more appropriate):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362961
I've got the ROM installed and I'm not going to complain about the lag because I've read that it clears up. However, I haven't seen any comments about 2 problems I have.
1) I'm on the east coast of the US and I've got the settings to auto-update over the network, but my phone thinks it's 5hrs ahead of my actual time.
2) When I try to download anything through the market or using apps (like SMS Backup +), it just crawls at a tiny fraction of my previous speeds.
Are these more "just wait for it" issues that will clear up or is there something I can do?
I've already installed CWM's Rom Manager and used it to fix permissions and rebooted a couple of times. THANK YOU!
For the time, it's better to just select your time zone. I've never had the time be accurate when set to automatic. As for the lag, I believe it just takes time. I'm flashing it now so I'll let you know if I notice the same thing and if it seems unusual.
Edit:
After flashing and letting the phone sit, the biggest thing I noticed was it running slow and the battery dropped from 98% to 30% in the 2 hours it sat. I hadn't tweaked my settings yet and CPU Spy revealed that my system was running at 1200 MHz for the majority of the time. Here's what I've been doing with previous versions of ICS that I feel makes a huge difference. In Rom Toolbox, set CPU from 1200 MHz to 1000. Then go to settings > developer options > Don't keep activities. This seems to kill activities more efficiently than a task killer/manager. I also don't allow any other stuff in the background like google getting my location. I also keep gps off unless I need it. With these settings and v6.5 I was getting an average of 10 hours on a charge with frequent use. I'll keep updating as the rom settles.
I set it manually and that seems to stick fine. As a test, I then set it back to auto-via-network and it's still right after a couple of reboots.
The slow internet downloads are KILLING me.
Prior to following the instructions in the ICS passion v7 OP, I dd a ClockworkMod backup of my CyanogenMod7-Kang setup.
Now, I've done a CWM backup of this ICS setup. Can I use CWM to go back and forth from one backup to the other?
...well, I guess I'll find out as I'm about to give it a shot.
Edit: didn't have any problems going from the clean ICS install back to my CM7-kang backup! (whew)
On the other hand, when I tried to go forward from the CM7-kang backup to the ICS backup, it was craptacular and I had to flash the ICS rom again. Not too awful, I guess.
Also, holy crap it's faster now that I let it sit, turned on, while I slept! Yeehaw!
Even the market-downloading is blazing.
a fellow noob with a problem on ics v7
for some reason I can't see the external sd on the phone. I CAN access the external sd on my pc and write files to it. I just cant get the phone apps to SEE the external sd. Help? Should I get back to stock then go for ics v7? (I tried a few mods in-between, might not be ics v7 fault - otherwise everything great with it!) Well, I am going to go back to stock via odin now (sigh) and then to v7 to see if that's the problem.
I've had similar problems. I think the fix is to format everything, but I'd rather not so I'm must accepting things as they are for now. Just a layperson guess, though.
The time zone needs to be set manually.
The slow 3G connection is the only noticeable problem. Wifi speeds are the same as always. Toggling the wifi on/off seems to help my 3G speeds at first. I used the speedtest app in the market to test.
Good luck!
update to v8
I had the same snail download speeds on v7 and am not sure why, but now I'm up to v8 and it is back to the crazy fast downloads!
I am on AT&T in the US - and ever since I switched to an ICS ROM (either CM9 or Samsung's official) I am unable to get my network speeds via any speedtest app. I have tried Speedtest.net, Xtremelabs Speedtest, and the FCC Test app.
I will get decent ping speeds, and then the download test hangs and i never get more than 60kbps as a result, but my upload speeds are always very high, higher than they normally are.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
I had a similar problem with ICS ROMs. Speeds were very, very low (compared to GB ROMs with KL1 and KI4 modems). The phone was very sluggish when using the browser, Play Store, and several news apps. But like you said, upload speeds would pop real high, to something like 4 Mbps, then drop to near zero. The "Restart Test" button wouldn't come up for about two minutes. I tried about 20 different APN configs to no avail.
Now that I am back on GB, the phone screams. I haven't yet figured out if it is a custom ROM or an ICS modem issue.

Well the phone seems fine in regards to speeds. It's when I run the speedtest that it records a ridiculous speed. I think it must be something with ICS ROMs and how the speedtest app runs tests

jerdog, when testing XWLPU, I had this same issue. Running a test within the Speedtest.net app the download test hangs, and reports a ridiculously low speed when it's finished, but ping and upload seem normal.
Speeds otherwise seem fine browsing and downloading stuff, and if I run a speed test on a web page (like from Speedtest.net the actual web page via the Flash plug-in, instead of the app), the download speeds are likewise fine. It seems it is only broken in the app.
Did you ever figure out what the deal was?
PS- apologies for the super bump.

Thx for the info. I'll try it again next version of ICS I test.
Edit: sorry... Proxy settings from where? The APN?
Edit 2: it was indeed the proxy settings in the APN. once I removed the proxy, the speed test work just fine. Thx jerdog.
