[Q] Droidwall - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I've got a little question. I can't get Droidwall to Enable the Firewall. I think because it's kernel related. Or am I wrong? Can anyone help me with it?
Or is there a better app then Droidwall that works without a Custom Kernel or w/e?
Some information about my x10:
- WolfBreak his CyanogenMod v061
- Baseband .58
Thanks in advance,
Play (aka Phantom)

lol, i was using droidwall when in 1.6, but in 2.2 it doesn't, probably its kernel related

Well right now I don't think there's a kernel for 2.2 that enables Droid wall. But on 2.1 Zhidzu made a kernel with that enabled. But I still don't know what Droid wall is. Is it a firewall?

Didnt take long to find out
'DroidWall - Android Firewall is a front-end application for the powerful iptables Linux firewall. It allows you to restrict which applications are permitted to access your data networks.'

Any alternative that will work?

Usb/ wifi tether apk

Does anyone have the stock usb/ wifi tether apk that comes with the stock 2.2 froyo upgrade for vibrant?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I believe its built into the settings.apk
I'm curious as to why you need it. If you're still running 2.1, I recommend upgrading to 2.2, it's been a daily driver for me since jk2. Or if you don't, there is a mod for mobile ap to allow for wifi tether, but not the usb internet sharing.

my 2.2 from team whiskey comes with mobile ap for wireless , and has a setting to share internet using usb also... if you dont want to update, download an app called pdanet
You can also use the Android Wifi tether app but you phone must be rooted.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=NexusOne
I'm using Bionix-V but cannot find an app related to wifi and wireless tethering nor do I see any options under "Wireless and network." Consequently have been using PdaNet. Am I missing out on a simpler approach?
It's in settings -> wireless and network where it's always been.
Its called mobile ap

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I was looking under Settings|Wireless and network|tethering and also perhaps under applications! Couldn't find the darn thing anywhere! But now I see it under Settings|Wireless and network|Mobile AP. One of the great things about Android is all the flexibility. Unfortunately, it is also real easy to miss something!
Thanks again....

Cyanogen flashlight

Hi,
First I have to say how amazing the cyanogen 2.2 is. I love it!
I just wanted to know how to get the led flashlight working, I am running the very latest version, and apparently it should be functioning.
I don't mean as a camera flash btw, but actually as a torch. I used to use mototorch from the market with stock 2.1, but this no longer works.
Cheers in advance for help, oh and how can I donate to Cyanogen?

Sorry its CyanogenMod 6.1.3 v 4.5.7 that I am using now and flashlight function doesn't work on, and it did work on se 2.1.
All the apps I have tried so far just make the screen glow, which is bit naff.
Tell you what though, I can play music without stuttering for the first time since stock se 1.6

I just noticed that you were also the OP to the other thread I replied to. Just a word of caution, try to post everything on 1 thread. The mods may not like all these different threads.
Anyway, check out my response to your rooting issue thread.
EDIT: Forgot to answer your question on this one LOL. I would reflash your ROM.

He is using 2.1 so he can't clear the cache. He would have to use root explorer, remove vending.apk from /system/app, reboot then reinstall the market.
@shahkam I was doing some test on updating the market on 2.1 but things didn't work out. If you want to stay with 2.1 the only thing I can suggest is use erickwill's custom 2.1 which already has tweaks but it's based on the stock 2.1 rom.

Interesting...are you having trouble browsing the web using 3g/2g???
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Being blocked maybe?!
This doesn't seem an error on your rom, this seems more likely that something is blocking your download.
Not sure if this is your case scenario but i can't download any apk and others from my university.
If you are inside some company network, or something like that this most likely is the reasons.
When the download shows on the top it means your rom is trying to download, but the server may have been blocked, so it will keep trying for a long time, also may give you some small lag during that.
If you can download apk files from other sources it means that they may have blocked only using domain filter or ip filtering.
To be able to access the market doesn't mean that the server isn't blocked, only means that the main domain isn't blocked, i don't which is the server for market downloads so i can't tell you how to check this, but the best way would be to get try multiple wifi hotspots or a home totally not firewalled connection.
If it downloads but doesnt install try unmounting your SD card and download, try again and see what happens.

[Q] x10 market / downloads

Hello ,I noticed that the market showed only the games which could be compatible with my x10, but since the update, a good many of them became it without that the market (certainly because of the publishers(editors)) take care of them.
My question is simple, how is that my market shows all the apps, compatible or not with my x10
----------------------------
I noticed that sometimes, in the link to download a file (some platforms as megaupluoad), my phone downloaded only a html file which leads towards the link of download. How to solve this problem??
sorry for my english (i prefer french, unfortunatly, there is not good french android's forum), and thanks for all
uup
please some help !!!

First off, what are you running on your phone at the moment? A ROM or Sony Ericsson firmware? Second just post once and someone will eventually help you. Once you tell me what your running on your phone, I might be able to figure out the problem or someone else will.

You know that 2.1 is very outdated firmware? The software is mostly on 2.2 I think. So I am guessing more and more apps being made on the later softwares. Please correct me other xda members if I am wrong.
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
I won't say 2.1 is that outdated, the only thing I can't install with that is flash, Im using the EWJet ROM that uses 2.1 and its quite fast.
I use 2.1 ROMS like the one in my Sig for the camera. That's the only reason.

+1 for DroidWall. It has the added benefit of blocking ads in a particular app if you decide to not allow it access to the network.
However, I should say that it doesn't EXACTLY do what you are asking. It allows you control as to what apps may or may not access the network, either via 3g, WiFi, or both. As far as I know, it doesn't tell you when one of the apps you allow access to the network actually does.
If you want something that asks you to allow/deny, try this
ps this was the 3rd result for android firewall, the first 2 being droid wall, just saying everything is out there google and you shall find.
Edit: well it seems twitter brought the company behind whispermonitor and thus all the downloads have disappeared, I will try to find an apk.
Edit2: it seems that whispermonitor only worked on the nexus S and one other phone, shame it looked promising.
Your best bet is droid wall, there is also Pdroid but it needs a rom patch.
Thank you
Will try your recommend solution

Well i did some more reading about it, and its more of a whole rom/rom mod than an apk file and it was only compatible with the nexus S and Desire I think.
Droidwall is your best bet.
Avast firewall do better than droidwall, it really alert you if any apps trying to make an connection on yhe the background, but avast is big app that come with antivirus protection which seems to be useless for android os so far.

Droidwall doesn't work on Samsung Galaxy S2. I use ICS v4.0.3 and it is rooted!
I try for example to block all app on 3G then played Angry birds and the adds are still there..I think this app waste my time!!
