[Q] Stock Clock - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I wonder if anyone can offer advice please.
I have just upgraded to the SG2 from Nexus One. I would like a clock that shows at night beside the bed although it needs to be very dim and the clock needs to move randomly around the screen to avoid burn in.
The Nexus One had this as stock which worked only when charging but I cannot find any such night settings on the SG2 stock clock.

[Q]Screen Problem

Hi guys, just got a S2 2 days ago, last night i was playing on it, all of a sudden the screen went green/blue it look like it lost Red channel or the blue channel color in the screen, but i lock the screen and unlocked it and its back to normal and hasnt happened again
just wonder if this has happened to anyone before and how i should go about it
running Stock KE7
thanks
It`s a new one on me, if it happens again get it replaced.
Got that once while checking my phone after a shower. (kept it outside of the shower cabin of course). Turning off and on made it all trippy. I think it's nothing. Just a bug in the "adjust screen to what is displayed to save battery" thing.

[Q] Photon and HD Station Alarm Clock

Any of you use the alarm clock selection with the HD Station (dock)? I'm wondering what kind of effect this has on the screen over time? Even dimmed down if the screen stays on like a real alarm clock does, is there any potential for burn in, decreased screen and/or battery life (since phone battery is being charged and discharged at same time all night long), etc.?
I haven't seen any discussions on this and would like to get hear from those that use this function. Have used my phone for an alarm clock many times in the past but was afraid to keep the screen on all night.
I have used mine as an alarm clock since I got it a 3+ months ago. The screens be on (superdim) every night too. No issue whatsoever. I don't use the dock but I assume it is the same alarm clock you get when you open the kickstand.
Burn in only occurs in older monitors not the newer technology.
There is however a similar affect known as image persistence (or retention )it however is not permanent and is easily avoided and removed...
If you left your screen on for a very long time with the same image all you would have to do is turn off the screen for a couple hours to a couple days and then turn it back on and it should no longer be there. If you do end up with it, and its driving you bonkers, use "dead pixel detect and fix" on the market its free and small and will show dead pixels if you have any.

[Q] ICS Dock Screen

Just upgraded my SGS2 to the official ICS rom and for the most part I'm happy with the changes, my biggest gripe however is the dock screen (The screen that comes up when placed in the official dock).
In the GB version the dock screen would appear with the time and and any shortcuts you added, then after ~2 mins it would fade out to just the time on the screen in yellow which would slowly move around (I'm guessing to prevent burn-in/dead pixels).
Now in ICS the dock screen appears the same as GB, but after the ~2 mins only the shortcuts disappear - The background still stays along with the time and doesn't move.
This only concerns me as I have the dock on my and my wife's bedside tables and with the new screen it remains VERY bright compared at night (So for now I've just been turning my screen off).
Does anyone know how I can get the old dock back?
Bonus points if you know of a way to get the old dock back + be able to change the text colour of the 'faded' clock to an even darker colour.
I can't help you, but I also upgraded my S2 to the official ICS and my Dock Screen won't even work! It just stays on the standard home screen, when I put it into the dock. Does anyone have any tips on this?
Guys i would recommend to use a custom rom based on the lpq release, because they are far better then the original one.

I've tried several custom ROMs and didn't like them, so I've rooted and customised the official LPQ to my liking. The only thing left to fix is the clock...

Hi American-Baron,
The LPQ version of the dock clock activates after 5 minutes and goes to a built in wallpaper (The blueish one). If you go to settings and pick a different wallpaper you'll see when it activates after 5 minutes as it'll go back to the blueish wallpaper.
Now onto my question for others...
I decided that I'd try and modify the package myself. I'm having success with that (Mostly) but after de-compiling the package there's a lot of references to night and nightmode. Does anyone know if there's a secret option or way to get it into nightmode as it seems odd that it'd have references to nightmode in it's code but no option for nightmode?
*My mostly comment is due to the fact that I can change the colour of the text but it remains the same across both initial mode as well as standby mode so whilst I can have a good colour when in my dock at night, I can't read it if I use that option during the day...But I am still working on it and will post it here once I get things working better

Mine doesn't activate after 5 minutes. It stays on the home screen...
Are you using a genuine Samsung dock? If not maybe there's something different between yours and a genuine.

Hmmm...That is the same as I have and it works fine...
I'm not too sure what else it could be then, perhaps someone else may know.
Sorry :|
Hope to help
hey guys,
i installed omega rom v12 ics, and amongst many things (radio included), it comes with two clocks, one is 308.3k, and the other is 8.5M.
The first one when activated, you touch the screen, and it dims, and the other one, when you connect to the dock, loads automatically, and is FAB.
i'm a bit noob, i know once i saw the whole name for both apk's, but i was trying to look for them now to tell you the names, but couldn't locate.

Screen flicker (not faulty) CRT like

I have gone from my first amoled screen phone a galaxy s2 to s3, I gave my wife the s2 so I can hold the two sides by side and wave the phones side to side while holding my eyes still and I clearly notice the s2 screen drawing a solid light while the s3 looks like the screen is turning on and off at a very high speed, like if your using an old crt with 60hz.
Anyone else noticed this?
I imagine because generally speaking its not noticeable most of the time unless shake your eyes or shake the phone its a battery saving feature.
If power saving mode is active on your S3: turn it off
Custom rom, not using Samsung firmware. I have looked at my work mates s3 and it has this crt like flicker to, he has stock rom... And he won't let me root and custom rom his phone lol.
Chercked my S3 to see if it did this and it doesn't, no flicker at all but I don't have any motion settings turned on apart from rotate and no battery saving modes, maybe one of them is causing it.
As for what you cna do with your eyes, holding them and shaking them, now that's cool.
sorry for the bump...
But Im having this issue too. Its my 2nd s3 (first one had a yellow tint to it and I couldnt ignore it once I saw it) and my screen also flickers just like an old CRT at 60hz. The one with the yellow tint didnt seem to have this problem but I wasnt sure if it was how the screen was supposed to look when fully functional or if my eyes were going (pushing 30 lol).
Ive tried a factory reset. Ive tried checking Force GPU Rendering in 2D option. Ive tried a custom kernel and ROM. Im not sure what else to try!
I have the same issue with my galaxy note 2. But I don't find any solution to solve that yet

Edge clock on all the time possible?

Is there any way to get a clock to show on the edge when the device is asleep, is when screen is off? A bit like on Windows Phone.
I'd like to know as am considering moving over but the night clock function seems limited to a 12h max limit.

The reason it has a 12 hour limit is that its meant for you to check what time it is at night while looking at your nightstand. Its not meant to be on all of the time.

But I want to see it all the time like the windows phone glance screen. It's an awesome feature.
Samsung doesnt want to copy others rhey want to make their own device specific features. Maybe soon someone will come up with an xposed module that will get past that function restriction but for now i guess just choose times that are most relevant for you to use it

There are so many cool things to do with the edge feature, but Samsung didnt even try
As others have said, 12 hour max on the edge clock. But, even when the edge clock is off, it is still active and you can wake it up by swiping back and forth across the area that it occupies.
Ok thanks. I was assuming someone would have an apk to do it. I will keep my eye on the subject.
