Are there any 2.2 Roms with Native WiFi tethering working?
Not at the moment, it is a kernal related issue rather than a android issue.
The best you can get is tethering using a market app.
Eventually with the custom kernels we may see it, or just wait till the SE 2.3 update hits, and it should be in there
Just use Barnacle or EasyTether.

that can be fixed if you install a custom kernel.

Hi
Been digging around for a bit on here and google.
Do any of the Froyo roms for Hero have the new wifi hotspot feature. Thats what I would use most. Have installed one but does not appear to be in there.
I'm not sure if any of the ROMs have it built in (I'm still on 2.1), but you can use an app like android-wifi-tether or aNetShare to get it done.
Have been using Wifi Tether, but on VillainRom 12 the encryption does not work. Have installed that on the Froyo rom now and encryption works, so must be an issue with the 2.1 Rom I had on phone.
Bump!
Any new roms that support wifi hotspot?
Most the Rom's I have used have been rooted, and I have effectively used Wireless tether for Root (Android Market)

yes tehre is, use something like netshare.. but it needs you to be rooted.. I don't know weather it works in every rom's or not..
I have a Motorola Xoom and it does not support ad-hoc networks so I was wondering if there are any roms for the eris that would work with bluetooth tethering as GSB 2.8 does not work and it just reboots my phone when I attempt it. So if anyone knows an eris rom that would tether through bluetooth that would be great. Also I dont want to root my Xoom as its still new and has the latest android software.

well where is your tethering failing, because I'm running GSB 2.8 as well but I have no problem bluetooth tethering, I'm no beast with this ****, but what is your overclock set to? idk if your just getting a freeze and reboot that could be it
Ok after flashing just about every rom that is available for the eris i have found no real answer why my phone crashes and reboots when tethering via bluetooth I know on the hero(sprint) it works and they have no problem and our phone is the exact same thing internally so now im stumped.

Hey so I was wondering if you got this problem figured out because I'm in the exact same boat
eris and bluetooth tethering
Not sure if this is resolved, sorry for the duplicate post if it is. I was working on this same issue and came across this older thread. I am using my Eris with gsb3.6 and pdanet tablet. This worked fine for me.
Hey XDA,
I have a Question....
Does the custom kernel enable Hotspot-Wifi-Tethering like in Android 2.2 on many devices?
and can you explain me some of the features of FreeXkernel4?
Thank you,
best regards
Box
doesnt work for me, im using cm6 rom and wifi does not work after lots and lots of fiddling just wait a little longer and something great will be finished soon enough im sure
Im using the custom kernal on miui 1.3.18 and i used Trips wifi hack which sorts it out...my phone is so smooth and fast with custom kernal but battery drains super fast..but speed is totally worth it!

I'm personally waiting out until a more definite stable kernel comes out.
How about native usb tethering

on x10 it only provide ADHOC mode and my PS3 want connect to this couse it dont support it
Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie here who has recently installed wolfbreak's rom on my Xperia X10a which is now showing up as an X10i? Not sure why?
My soul reason for installing this rom was for getting hotspot capabilities so that I can share my 6gb data plan
to my WiFi only Motorola Xoom tablet (Xoom wont do ad-hoc connectivity). Everytime I attempt to use the Hotspot option, I get an Error within the Wireless & network settings section of the rom, particularly int eh Tethering and & Portable hotspot section. When I click Portable Wi-Fi hotspot, just below that menu option Error is displayed. Is the hotspot capabilities working within wolfbreak's rom or not? Is it something that I need to further configure?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't think tethering is an option on the X10 yet. From my recollection, it is due to the bootloader being locked up. Your best option would be to get barnacle wifi tether from the marketplace. I was successfully able to tether my computer and an iPhone 4 using that method. However, for some reason, other android devices weren't able to connect for some reason. Not sure if there is a fix for it though. Test it out and let me know if you are able to tether your xoom.
Looked it up, there is a possible work around for android devices to connect to each other using barnacle.

Good luck!
thanks for your reply but still no luck
Wolfbreak, could you clarify for us if your rom supports hotspot? It is within the settings but as you go to select it an error occurs.
Barnacle wifi tether worked for me till I got my internet set up at ny house

Requires the hacked kernel... i think.
If I'm not mistaken, Barnacle is still doing adhoc connectivity which is not "hotspot". Android 2.2 is supposed to give u hotspot. The Motorola Xoom tablet does not support adhoc hence the reason why I need the hotspots option working on my X10. I want to share my 3G dataplan from my X10 to the Xoom. Otherwise, I'm returning my Xoom.

I thought the bootloader has been unlocked / hacked as well?

The bootloader has only been bypassed. The new kernels are essentially loaded without the bootloader. In terms of having the capability to load custom kernels the end result is the same though.

are there any custom Xperia X10 roms out there that fully support hotspot capabilities?

That is correct. Though the only custom kernal that support wifi hotspot etc is the FreeKernel by zdzihu. Though they only work on stock 2.1. :/
Take a look at all the kernals here..

being a newbie to the scene... it's all greek to me. Is there a custom kernel for baseband 55 for wolfbreak's rom? Apology if what I asked does not make sense. Im confused about the whole rom / kernel / baseband developments.
The custom kernals are only for baseband .49 and .52. Though it says on wolfbreaks thread that you can flash the baseband patch and then flash the kernal. try it out
Wifi tethering Works fine for me though

Had to revert back to stock Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 rom today as I got the "Process System is not responding". Wasn't sure how to fix it without flashing back to original stock rom.
I can / was able to WiFi Tether as well but that is considered to be an ad-hoc connection which the Motorola Xoom does not support. Hence the reason I really want hotspot working on the Xperia X10.
I really don't want to ditch this phone but I'm coming close to letting it go for a Nexus S.
Well it's official, im getting rid of my Xperia x10. Posted it on kijiji. Ill most likely still follow the developments on the x10 as my sister still owns one and I can tinker with hers as you guys make further progress with the custom roms and kernels. Best of luck.

This seems to be a problem with the both CM7 and MIUI at the moment. Barnacle works, but only provides ad hoc networking. That's fine if you want to tether a PC or laptop, but won't work for tethering an android tablet. At the moment, there is no off the shelf solution for tether tablets, though there is a method that involves rooting and altering the tablet so that it can work on ad hoc networks.
I've been able to tether using 3rd party wireless tether on both miui and cm7 with no problems
Im on latest MIUI and im using wireless tether 2.0.5-pre13 and it works flawlessly for me.
hi
haven't used the teather but does anyone know if the hotspot charges you or is it "free"
Same problem on Motorola Defy - MIUI
I have the same problem on Moto Defy with MIUI.
The "Wireless Tether for Root Users" was perfectly able to tether in infrastucture mode on Moto Defy with Eclair and Froyo.
In MIUI the same software id doesn't! It's just able to tether in ad-hoc mode.
Quite a big limitation.
Is there a solution to the AP tethering issue with MIUI. Did anyone get it to work?
