Hello peeps. I think there are many confused people out here, that does not completely understans HOW TO make the kernel work.
And I am one of them, tried lots of stuffs but Im getting crazy now, and desperate (lol). Is there any1 out there, willing to make the first step by step (not way to easy, just like, install this and this lalal in correct order).
I am using WolfBreaks rom, bb.54 and Ive run into a constant boot loop.
This is how I did. I installed Baseband Patch for 4x-52 over my current bb.54.
After that I installed the K010, all this through xrecovery ofcourse, but I still end up in a endless bootloop.
What have I done wrong? Please make us a simple guide to follow, to make sure there is nothing incorrect.

If you're already on bb54, you don't need to install patch bb4x-52. The patch is only for people that on bb49/52. That is why you are having bootloops.

Q1.
A : There are a few people has made patch file to go back to stock kernel in the dev section. There's a kernel manager script written by doomlord.
Q2.
A : the wipe everything is done before you install the rom, then after that install the kernel.
Well this time it got better, I could enter the startup with the keylock and then the phone rebooted. Afterwards it kept bootlooping for like 10 minutes. Going to try the xbin file instead of bin
edit: with the xbin I could atleast slide the unlock ****, going to leet it reboot some times and see what happens!
I get a blue/white led colour then the screen freezez up and get dark, after a couple of sec it reboots

WB CM6 has not been confirm or guarantee to work with custom kernel, as he said that his rom works only on stock bb54.
I join ur request.. i also wanted to flash wolf's ROM.. but i'm kinda confused about the kernel.. i'm running stock 2.1 and BB .54
Custom kernels are all built for 49/52 BB. If you want to use the kernel with WBs ROM you need to flash 52 BB and then the patch. The patches work for the ROM not the kernel, the kernel is dependant on right BB.

Hi, make sure you start with a working rom, flash bb52, flash the bb patch "cmbb49.zip" and then the kernel files.
It should work without problems.
Cheers.

What baseband are you on??
Try letting the boot screen loop run for a few minutes. I recently reinstalled wolf's CM2.2 again and it looped a good 6 or so times before actually loading up.
Also make sure that you are on the latest firmware, Wolf's rom requires it
EDIT:: lol I don't know why my post was so late.. guess all the questions were answered.

You're 100% sure it's the GT-I9100/GT-I9100T? If it's anything other, that could explain it?
If you checked that you really have the right phone, install CM7 like always and right after it before you reboot the device, install siyahkernel. After it I guess it should work fine.

Hi all,
Firstly thanks to all the devs and senior members who ported CM10 mini, and also helped me with all the questions i had. I didnt necessarily have to ask these questions , coz the related threads worked like an FAQ and troubleshooting guide for me.
But now im stuck at a point where i need to ask. After trying CMX mini, though i loved it, i feel i prefer a speedy snappy phone rather than a fully loaded ergo slow phone. So i decided to roll back to GingerDX rom.
The issue im facing is that since ive flashed nAa's JB kernel, i wanna re-flash the nAa GB kernel ( or zombie panic etc). Once i flash any of the older GB kernels ( ive tried a few) the phone gets stuck at the boot screen. I just cannot go into recovery to do a wipe and flash the GingerDX rom.
So my questions are:
Is there any known work around.?
Do i need to roll back to a gb kernel to run Ginger DX or can i stay on JB kernel. Im guessing it shud be GB kernel for a GB rom, but cant find any literature online.
Do i need to do a data wipe before i switch kernels?
Pls help.
Thaks in advance.

yes, do data-wipes, or maybe format the partitions before you flash the gb kernel. GB roms won't work on the JB kernel.

Dear reader,
I've currently been using Cyanomod for 2.3.7 Gingerbread.
My phone is rooted and everything (which took a little while )
Everything is running perfectly fine, but i would like to update my phone to android 4.0+ (whatever the lastest compatible version might be)
How should i go about this?
Do i basically uninstall everything and start from scratch or is there an easy method to quickly update my phone to android 4.
Kind Regards and Thank you for your time!
I believe the answer us first to backup your apps with titanium backup if you need them. Then go to recovery and backup your current Rom. (always be sure to do this). from recovery wipe factory reset and dalvik cache. Then install your new Rom from zip.
You cannot install an android 4.0 + over another version. Always backup and wipe.

Rom's are pre rooted (expect stock, stock BASED roms ARE pre-rooted), once you've installed the rom through cwm, it will be rooted and ready.

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can easily flash a custom kernel (Based on ics, so it'll be compatible with ics rom) And boot into recovery, and flash a custom rom based on ics.
One last question, since i'm having trouble finding compatible roms.
Which one would any of you, recommend for me to use ?
I have a ST18i and i'd like the lastest compatible rom.
Thanks so much for the fast reponses and ofcourse the help.

If your finding trouble with compatible roms are you saying your getting bootloops when trying them?, because a different Android Version requires a different kernel, So if you haven't or forget to flash the kernel recommended or provided then that would possibly be where your compatibility issues lye as you will get bootloops if you don't and you are changing version. As Mikii suggested earlier.

Ahhh that must be it then.. I've been using the same kernel for quite some time now because it was quite a hassle to flash it. Different roms come with different kernels (at times). I'll have to figure out how to flash kernels again. Gonna check around the forums to see if i can find a suitable thread.

The fastest way to flash a kernel is to use the program called flashtool, click on the lightening bolt, select Fastboot mode, then select kernel to flash find the kernel you want to flash and it should be done within literally 2 seconds. once Flashtool gives you the all clear, disconnect your phone from usb, restart phone, and there you go, the old kernel will be overwritten, and so will that kernel's cwm version, with the one from the new kernel.
Try FXP138

Hey,
Everything is installed and running, however i am wondering about just one thing.
Whenever i reboot my phone i get, right after imputting my sim code, a Unlock Network SIM message.
What is this and how can i solve it?
Regards,
(oops just realized i made a double post, apologies!)
So, I'm a pretty average custom rom user of an x10a.
I've flashed and tweaked out with several gingerbread roms, without any issues.
Recently I found about the newer 4.1.2 roms for the x10 from late December. And I was wondering, 'cause I want to update to one of those, I understand that they're flashed in the same way 2.3 roms are. But, my xRecovery is the 3.0 gingerbread ready version. So I don't know if it will work at all after I've installed one of the Jelly Bean roms.
So I'm kindly asking anybody who knows on the forum if it will still work after I flash to 4.1.2. 'Cause I'm not certain which rom of the two I found is better for me. And I want to test them both out, but of that of course I'd need xRecovery working.
In short I'm just asking for a y/n answer on will xRecovery for the Xperia x10 work after I've installed a 4.1 custom rom, or will I have to go back to stock 2.3.3 and re-root and unlock my bootloader again?
Big thanks to anybody who replies This is the first post I made here, and probably the only one I'll never need.

copy your choice of rom, ics/jb into your sd card. install the appropriate kernel via flashtool. all ics/jb kernels includes CWM so you should have no problem installing these roms granted that you have unlocked bootloader.

Oh, oh, sorry! WOW, I need to focus when reading! I'm really sorry! Thanks for the help good to know. :good:
It can be done, but it depends on which kernel you flash.
Some kernels only contain CWM, while others contain xRecovery and CWM.
But you can always flash a kernel that has xRecovery (Like Doomkernel of ferkernel 3.6), and thus you have xRecovery.

Thank you, glad to see that the community here is always willing to help!
Tried both of the roms today, and it worked like a charm! Neat that I didn't know each kernel came with custom recovery images.
Thank you for the help Cheers mate!

Hi
Can flash ICS/JB rom using xrecovery in Doomkernel? Thanks
I'm not sure mate, I don't think Doomlord's kernel is compatible with anything but 2.3, but don't take my word on it.

What you must understand is that a Rom comes with some installation scripts. CWM and xRecovery will able or not to understand those scripts.
In order to be able to flash a ICS or JB rom from xRecovery it means that the rom has to been prepared to be flashed thanks to xRecovery.
The Recovery "manager" are provided with the kernels, so there shouldn't be anything to ask about xRecovery or CWM regarding Roms,
just flash the kernel that works with your rom and you'll get the correct recovery to install the ROM from.
The only exception is that on some phone, the CM10 kernel doesn't want to go into recovery before flashing CM10 Rom (happened to me when coming from stock gb), so you have to flash CM9 kernel, install CM10 rom and reflash CM10 kernel.
The question of xRecovery and CWM is more when you try to flash some libraries after the installation of the Rom.
So regarding this question, there's no ICS or JB roms (that I know of) that have a xRecovery scripts.
