[Q] Difference between freexperia recovery and xrecovery - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

what's the difference between the freexperia recovery and xrecovery?
if i currently have xrecovery on my phone, must i install freexperia recovery to install roms with presintalled custom kernals? or can i continue using xrecovery?

it is my Q too
???????????????????????

You can keep using XRecovery bcause when you flash a ROM it will install whatever recovery is in the ROM. The biggest difference is that the files are located in a different folder. Functionality wise its virtually the same and they're accessed the same.

Did you know how to get into xrecovery? If you don't, just keep pressing the back button on phone when you see the sony ericsson white lettering when you turn the phone on.

Did you go into the busybox installer itself on the phone and pick the latest version with the busybox app?
I have the stable one, not the newest one.

try the newest busy box if you can't get it to work.

Okay, if that dosent work, is there any alt. to xrecovery? Or easier way to get it to work?

I had the same problem before when I updated my busybox to the wrong version. What I did was using the latest flash tool 0.2.9.1 to reinstall xrecovery. These are the steps.
1. Connect your phone to the pc.
2. Run flashtool 0.2.9.1
3. A pop up window will come up and select x10.
4. Select Ask Root Permission on the flashtool and select Allow when SU app appears on your phone.
5. Then select xrecovery on the flashtool and it will install xrecovery back for you.
6. Reboot the phone and try press back button a few times when you see SE logo appears.
Hope this will help you.
Do the manual install again and make sure you 'mount r/w' before pasting the 3 files in system>bin and theres no way it goes wrong. Do not install busybox as it is included with the XRecovery files. Make sure to copy the chargemon, busybox and XRecovery.tar files which you can get by extracting them from the installer apk.

Manually installed it again, and I still couldn't get into xrecovery. Do you think the problem is in conflicting busyboxes?

Did this, and still no luck.
OK do this.
Make sure you have android sdk installed.
Open up command.
type
Code:
cd <path to adb.exe>
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system
chmod 4755 /system/bin/sh
then push the 3 files to /system/bin
It should work. Installing from flash tool doesn't work for me don't know why. So every time i flash se 2.1 through flash tool i do the above.
and by the three files, you mean the chargemon, busybox, and xrecovery.tar?
okayy, so android SDK refuses to install. Any other ways i can make it work? What does FreeXperiaRecovery do?

Yes, those are the files. The problem could be the conflicting busybox files. Find where the busybox install app placed the file in 'system' and remove it and then try again.

To install the SDK you first need to have the latest JAVA JDK. FreeXperia is just a different recovery that is almost identical but the files are in a different location. Dont bother with it, if you do it right XRec will work.

Have installed and run xrecovery many many times. Dont know if this will help but here goes.
Connect to sues and fresh install of 2.1
Reboot phone
Connect back to pc and using flashtool root phone.
Wait for reboot
Connect to market download busybox and install
Open busybox and clixk bottom button will install latest version
Download xrexovery apk version3 from zhidu thread on xda
Reboot phone
Press on xrecovery icon in app drawer and install xrecovery
All 3 icons on left should have green tick when finished
Reboot phone
On sony ericcson logo press back button ( think any button will work) many times quickly
Enjoy xrecovery and the devs amazing roms

There is no reason to install busybox if you are installing XRecovery! XRecovery is dependant on busybox being installed in the same folder and it's one of the 3 files installed. You could maybe install the latest busybox in the system>bin and then just install the other 2 files but all installing it in the system and then installing the one from XRec will do is cause potential conflict. Installing busybox with XRec installed will break your recovery and mess up your phone so you need to reflash. Just follow the instructions in the XRec thread, dont add any steps or skip any and you'll be fine.

[Q] Any problems with the installation of cmw?

I don't know if install cwm is a risk for my device
Someone had have some problem with this?
thanks in advance
sorry, CWM
No problem or such. Flash newest CWM. And if you screw up anything then you can reflash using Odin to stock fiemware. By doing so stock recovery will replace CWM.

I have heard it can brick if not done right. Best way to do it is to install the ClockWorkModAce.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168417
this ClockWorkModAce.zip it's better than ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.6??
any one will do. Just don't use rom manager.
ClockWorkModAce.zip is CWM 4.0.0.9
The other one is CWM 5 obviously..
The only thing is that u can restore Backups made with CWM 4 with CWM 5 but not the other way around! And some Custom ROMs require the latest CWM 5
Just what i told you
jajaja i know

nAa kernel and rom for x10 mini pro

Hey can we put xrecovery in this
THANKS IN ADVANCE
There is something you need to know before you check with xrec.
xrecovery is the basic and old recovery and backup system. now all of the scripts that custom roms use need CWM recovery. because that is easy and all (majority) of the users use that recovery.
Why do you want to go back to xrecovery? you will/sometimes brick your phone if you try to install a custom rom using xrecovery. so it is better that you move to CWM.
That is much better and advanced then xrec.

[Q] MINI PRO how to install cwm recovery?

Hi everyone, I've searched over the forum but did not find any thread... Can any one explain how to flash cwm recovery into a SK17i xperia mini pro?
I've downloaded ROM MANAGER from store but it says "unsupported device" or something like that when I click on "flash cwm". Should I keep trying with rom manager even if it says that? I think maybe it is not safe...
What is the better way to flash cwm? Actually, I dont know anyothers ways...
Thanks for the answers and sorry for my english.
Edit: what about x-parts app? I think it can flash cwm too, but it says something like "if you delete system partition cwm will dissappear". I really dont know what it means, maybe is a standard warning message, but I'm a total noob.
The reason why I want cmw recovery is to make a backup of my current rom (stock .62) in order to be able to change roms and make experiments without risk.

You can install recovery from x-parts since it supports our phone but rom manager doesn't support....and the other thing means that if u wipe /system partition....ur recovery will be gone but if u install a rom which has recovery in the /system partition then cwm won't be lost...and don't worry, it's completely safe to install cwm via x-parts...

[Q] xRecovery problem/ Edifiy scrip

Hi..
I have problem with my X10i. I've flashed some custom rom which is not stock based, but now problem is my PC don't recgonize phone. Before flashing I had stock rom and everything was working fine with USB. I can charge phone via usb and normal charger, USB debbuging is ON but on PC nothing happens.
Other problem is I can't flash any other rom because I got error in recovery:
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5.
It was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the ClockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and update-binary) to create working update zip packages.
Does anyone have solution how could I fix this ?? plss
The file you flashed from xrecovery is made for ClockWorkMod recovery.
For some kernels you press volume down for CWM.

Sorry I was backwards
You are using CWM but need xrecovery.
Not all kernels support both. Normally xrecovery is back button on startup and CWM is volume down. However if kernel has no xrecovery the CWM will use back button.

I have this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846760
And kernel is:
2.6.29-FXP
[email protected] #1
I couldn't find a definite yes. However have you tried holding all other buttons on boot, volumes, menu, home. Sometimes kernels have more than 1 built in that use other buttons.
Some CWM recoverys have an option in the menus to reboot into xrecovery.
If all failed then flash DooMKerneL with flashtool and use back button to get xrecovery.
Also if the Rom your trying to flash is a stock based Rom, it will require a stock kernel like DooMKerneL.
Most times roms flashed through xrecovery are stock based, as xrecovery is a stock based recovery. CWM recovery is a Cyanogen Mod custom recovery for CM custom based roms (like FXP, the kernel you have)
Again that's generally.

Hmmm..I've tryed every button and I always get in CWM. I have option in the menu to reboot into recovery but in the CWM again.
The problem is I can't flash DooMKernel because my PC doesn't recongize the phone, I can only charge it but don't know why, before flashing this custom rom (Techdevil rom) everything was working fine with USB. pls help
Try to mount the sd card or usb from cwm, with phone plugged into pc. If it see the card copy another CM based Rom file and try to flash.
If it won't mount take out sd card put in something else to copy file.
In the first post of the recovery thread in my signature look for the 'click here to find out how to setup flashtool ' button and read it. It may help. The phone doesn't have to be plugged till it asks for it when flashing.

I will try that tommorow..
Few days ago i turned off the phone and hold back button then I plugged usb cable, green light turned on but flash tool didn't recongize it.
