I have the Sprint mogul and have put lots of new programs on it to run different things. I heard from a soure, reliability is questionable but nontheless, that there is a way to free up the memory or even just have the mogul run faster even with the programs on it. He said there was a program or something needed, but did warn that the faster it runs the easier it is for it to burn out. Wondering if anyone had some information on that. Thanks.
That sounds like BatteryStatus. The only problem with that is that it isn't compatible with QualComm processors, only the slower processors such as the one in the Wizard(195MHz).
Titan memory
seriously? u would think someone would have thought of something with tht by nw. bt I don't know if we're talking about the same thing. earlier this weekend my phone started really acting slow. bad enough for me to actual revert back to the main settings. it wasn't like I put a lot of programs in it, so it seems odd tht it would act that slowly. I put the same programs back on my mogul to see if it would do the same thing again and so far it hasn't. so I was looking for a way to maybe increase the program running space so I wouldn't have that problem again.
I posted an idea under Titan that might be of interest to you then. I would love to know if the 128Mb RAM cardou from the TyTN II would be compatible with the Mogul.
It's doubtful but if possible then worth it right?
you should install one of the custom roms from custel or dcd. these guys do alot of tweaking on the rom itself, a huge part of that is removing unwanted programs and files. this inturn frees up alot of memory. they even take it a step futher and change the page pool for increase speed. give them a try.
Fellow forum users please forgive me for asking. I came from the Windows Mobile realm and had much experience with cooked roms and all. I bought my current Hero to rid all of this stuff and just have a phone that works. It works.. and besides the fact that it is not the fastest one i am happy with it.
What i hate is the lack of usable memory, one app to many and voila .. memory issues. The thing i need is App2SD (yes i have researched!) .. but what i don't need is an instable rom. The thing is for my work and i heavily depend on connectivity such as Exchange, Gmail, Twitter BT and GPS.. oh yeah and calling would be nice.
All i want is to be able to get some apps to the SD card. No do i really need to root the device and then use another rom? Or can i use stock rom and still be rooted? As i understand App2SD is part of the roms and not that easy to incorporate yourself right?
Hope i am not asking for something that has been laid out numerous times.. if so please excuse me for that.
Thx..
OK. Apps2sd needs root to work. If you go to www.villainrom.co.uk, then click device specific, GSM hero, then look for stock rooted 2.1, the stock rom is there with apps2sd by kendon. No link just now as I'm on phone but I can get one if needed soon
Thank you tah is indeed included in the rom... let me browse that site.. thx so far! appreciate it
will i still get speed boost if i root my phone and running the official JI6 rom?
I've seen a lot of good roms in there but i still want to stick to JI6 a little longer and wait till the froyo comes in and that's the time maybe i'll flash a custom rom.
Rooting by itself wont make any difference. Installing Juice Defender might, keeping in 2G unless you really need 3G for something will help. Using a black background will help some. Not using apps that pull data every 30 seconds and changing it to 15 minutes will help a lot.
i'm sorry, i think you're talking about the battery performance of the phone. what i'm talking about is the overall performance of the phone, so you're saying that if i rooted my phone it won't make any difference in the speed of the phone?
Rooting makes NO difference to ANYTHING on your phone. The only difference it makes is it allows applications which require root to WORK (otherwise they will not work). Other than that, it allows you to flash different roms and mods on the phone. It does NO changes to the phone itself as far as performance goes.
Furthermore, most of the custom roms out now are BASED on the OTA JI6 official ROM with optimizations, tweaks, and mods to:
a. improve performance and speed of the phone
b. improve responsiveness
c. increase battery life
d. offer support for themes and mods to allow you to customize it to how YOU want it to look and behave.
All of the custom roms WILL improve the speed of the phone. If you install a lagfix (voodoo, ext2-based, or another one), it will at the very least triple or quadriple the responsiveness you get from the menus and loading. Combine that with a custom ROM and your Vibrant will be FLYING fast.
JUST make sure you follow ALL instructions for installations to be safe.

Honestly.... lagfix doesn't seem to speed anything up for me (Voodoo or Ryan). It improves the Quadrant score... that's about it as far as I can tell. Some people swear by them. The biggest speed improvement is to make sure not to have battery-hogging apps, not lots of widgets on the homescreen, and use Zeam launcher. The hassle of having to remove Voodoo each and every time you want to flash, or having bugs that come along with the ext2 lagfixes to me just don't seem worth it.
At the end of the day, if I start to think the Vibrant isn't fast... I just borrow my old MT3G from the roommate and use it. For about 10 seconds. Then I throw it back at him.
Thanks for explaining these things to me, I have searched the uses of rooting and it says that there's speed boost. I thought that rooting alone will speed the performance of the phone.
I guess I will not root my phone(not yet for now) cause I'll be waiting for froyo first.

If you want speed, then install one of the custom roms. If you want to take full control on your phone, then root the phone.
My 2 cents, the devs in this forum will have a full stable working 2.2 for Vibrant before Tmobile.

Yeah i know that now, but i'll wait for froyo first before i go with custom roms.
Hello everyone! I just got my 16gb wifi model a few days ago. I'm from Canada. I think it's a very nice device, I love it, but have a few questions. First I noticed that the device seems to be a little laggy sometimes, specifically when you switch apps, or when in the browser or using the keyboard? Is there any way to make this better?
I have taken the habit of using the task manager to close unused apps, is this a good thing to do? I have the feeling that mine came with stuff that I don't really need/want. For exemple, There is a ^ in the bottom bar that I always tend to open by accident, this bar open another row of icon. Also there is a screenshot icon on the bar. Is this something to do with the TouchWiz? How much clog/more memory is the touch wiz using? Maybe without it I could gain some speed. I have removed all the widgets to make things better and I use a simple wallpaper.
I'm not into flashing for now, I'm not mentally ready, is there anything else I can do to improve speed and responsiveness?
Also, I have a blackberry and I am used to receive instant notifications for facebook. Is there an equivalent app for facebook for the tab?
Thanks.
First things first, Id root it. Its VERY easy. If you have issues with the Mass storage device not being seen my the PC, make sure usb debugging is off. Also, after you root it throw on Pershoots TW UX version of his kernel.
Then download set cpu and OC it to 1400. And if you want to put on a rom, put on task650s rom.
after that all lag is pretty much gone.

Do you have a link to the best rooting instructions? Also a link to OC?
Sure most guys will tell you to search, but thats not me. I'll help you out bro, np
1) how to root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239185
That is a video with a written tutorial too. That should do ya
2) OC'ing kernel
Pershoot is the one that made it. It also have a nice VooDoo integrated sound matrix ( or whatever ) and it sounds crazy good. To take advantage of it, flash his kernel and then market VooDoo and download that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138167
If you have a touchwiz / WIFI rom/tablet.. Then you need to download the kernel off of his site that has TW / UX in the title of the link.

I could not agree more with this, I just got done running benchmarks with just Task650's ROM, loading up the newest pershoot kernel now. Even with just the ROM lag is pretty much gone
Yeah Mann benchmarks don't mean much in terms of Android. But it's a good placebo for some

Well, i admit that it is tempting to install a rom. I dont understand tho why it is necessary to clear up the slowness problem. Ppl at samsung need to work more to optimise their sh.t

Im not sure if I know what you mean... what do you mean on you dont understand why its is necessart to clear up the slowness problem? It is because there is soo much bloat and things misplaced. Its kinda crazy. but after you run an optimized ROM and the kernel at 1.4ghz.. its night a day..
Hie guys. I am new to SGT 10.1 and to this forum.
[Nice little introducing video btw].
I just reply to this thread not to open a new one and start asking questions over there
From what you guys discussed above, after rooting the device and OC it, the lags will go away. How much does OC it to 1.4 affect the battery life and heat? I searched and most people posted it doesn't heat up the tablet much. I guess it is the same to you guys?
If I have rooted my tab and OC it to 1.4. Let says something gone wrong with the hardware of my tab and I would like to exchange it, am I able to un-root it and de-clock to 1.0 before I return?
Cheers

The overclock with help with lags. But not all of the lags are based off of speed issues. Some are code related. But in the end, yes it will speed up nicely, and be more fluid.
The heat and battery isn't really an issue. But being that all of the dev'ing going on is all new. Its a wait and see thing. But in all respects, it should be just fine.
And I haven't looked into unrooting, but I'm almost 100% positive that it can be done.

I actually have a question about OCing. I flashed the Starburst ROM on my tab, but no custom kernal. Is it still OK to download set CPU and crank it to 1.4ghz? (I've OCed computers 'til they cried, but never phones or tablets )
Hi all. I've been trying for some time to install apps to SD on my Galaxy S3 using apps such as link2SD etc but have had little to no success. I've heard that some custom ROMs allow you to do this without additional software. Since I was planning on ditching the stock ROM in favour of something with better performance and most importantly better battery life I've been looking for a ROM to suit my needs. However most ROM download sites seem to have little information regarding this and I am yet to find a ROM with this capability. Can anyone suggest any ROMs that can do this? Thanks.

The reason most dont state anything about this is due to it not working completely and draining the battery as it has to work harder to read the info, mix in the fact that the class of the sd card is a big factor. Anything less then a class 6 is pointless.
Please post in the correct section.
