I tried searching but it doesn't seem that anyone has found a good solution yet. Does anyone know if there is an external battery charger/dock for the X10? My USB connection is nearly dead, and I'm starting to think this might be the cheaper option over sending it in for repair.
I doubt there is a dock forthwith x10 since you'll have to put it upside down.
I think buying a new USB cable is going to be cheaper than getting a dock. If there is.

I haven't seen any similar threads and I'm sorry if there is already an existing one.
My X10 USB port has suddenly gone wonky. At first the phone had no problems charging, but when trying to connect to the computer, the cable had to be held in a certain position or it would not connect. This later began to affect charging as the usb cable had to be held in a certain position to charge. Now even after wiggling around the USB cable and reinserting the battery, the phone will not charge.
Given that the USB port used to work while being held in a certain position, it seems that this is a hardware issue. After finding nothing here, I searched the interwebs and found that poorly soldered USB ports are actually a fairly common problem on the X10.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem or has any insights?

this happened to me too, are you using the usb that came with your phone? because when mine broke i bought a new cable and everything worked fine so try the cable on a different phone and see if it charges

I have tried 3 different USB cables, including the one that is included with the phone. Thanks for your input.
My last x10 went down the same way. I had to buy an external battery charger which was a royal pain. SE refused all knowledge of this defect.

The problem is most likely due the actual design of the phone, where the USB connector is not properly strain-relief. This causes the solder joints to break, and ripping off the solder pads after a while. You used to be able to charge your phone because the pads very only "lifted" but after a while they become completely broken. I'm currently still in the process of trying to figure out whether it would be possible to repair those connections by finding an alternate location to solder the connector pins.
I've had my x10 since April when it launched. Other than this it has been rock solid, but this is really disappointing considering how tank my old W810i was.
I also think that there is either a problem with the design or the manufacture of the phone because it's somewhat common, as it does appear that the soldering of the USB port is not very good.
Looking around the internet, it doesn't seem like SE acknowledges this problem, but luckily it's still under warranty with Rogers for a replacement. I still want to get this issue out on this forum though, because I think it should be something that people are aware of.
I had the same problem a while ago. Called Orange France and they replaced my phone without any comments. If your phone is still under warranty you should go to your provider.
Hey guys. I need help returning my x10 back to stock without a usb cable. I have an AT&T x10a, but unfortunately the other day one of the pins in my usb module (ground, I believe-pin 1) snapped off. I can't charge or connect my phone at all.
Is there any way of flashing the phone back to stock AT&T firmware using like a terminal emulator so I can send it back to AT&T? Btw - the phone is running Nordic 2.1 and it's rooted. Thanks for anyone who can help.

I was looking through the forums for a method like this too but couldn't find one so far. Perhaps you could figure out what makes it look like it's on stock firmware:
i.e. change the boot screen, change the model to x10a, unroot and make it look as much as possible like stock.
Look at the "broken usb connector" thread

Hi i just bought this phone its great, and I love it!
I had bought an aftermarket case for it right after buying the phone. I used my phone when It was time to charge it, I put it to charge using the pc data cable.
Little did I know the case did not allow sufficient room for the usb cable, so the entire time it was charging, the case was kind of pushing down on the cable from the top.
I was worried and noticed a little wiggle on the usb connection, but it does stay on perfect, just a lil wiggle.
Im just wondering if this is normal, im not sure if the case put stress on the connection in the usb during the time it was connected.
Yeah im crazy about stupid stuff.
Just wondering if anyone elses usb is a little wiggley.
Basically im trying to figure out if its supposed to be like that or did my case put stress on the usb connection.
Thanks to all
Its normal mine is the same.

My vibrant has been acting up and I can't really charge it anymore. Its not the chargers fault because it works normally and it works perfectly for my brother's HD2. For me to charge I have to push my USB forward and have to keep it that way and it usually only takes like 2 hours to charge now it won't even charge to 100% over night it only gets to around 70 (from 50%). So I suppose this is a USB problem, yet it was working fine like a week or two ago.
This is what I want to know:
Is this worth an insurance claim?
Is there any way to fix this?
How much would I have to pay (I'm subscribed to T-Mobile mobile security thing)?
Is this even covered by the insurance?
Could I keep the same IMEI number?
Get a new charger. Happens to me all the time. The usb port on this is rubbish.

1.either try buying a new usb (htc are the best )
2.why dont you claim warranty?
I've tried a HTC charger before. I have 2 other chargers and a USB cable and they all mess up.

So I've managed to completely ruin the micro usb/charging port on the bottom of the phone. The phone will still charge, but my system will not recognize the phone at all. If I wiggle the cable I see the MTP Initialization on the phone, but after looking inside the port with a flashlight, there are tons of bent & broken pins on the port itself.
I'd love to completely replace the charging port on the phone. Does anyone know if the I900 parts are compatible with the SGH-I77? I have the ATT version and I can't find *any* spare parts online for it, only for the international version. I can score the charging port online for as little as $5, and $15 for a full replacement of the pcb+everything else.
I'm more than capable of opening the phone and replacing a PCB, but does anyone know if the I900 parts are compatible with the ATT version *at all*?
Any other suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I'm eligible for an upgrade in February so I'll get a new phone until then, but I'd really prefer to hook it up straight to my PC to access the SD card rather than popping it out each time I need something.
Thanks!

It's a standard microUSB receptacle. You can solder a replacement if you wish to do so. But, the better alternative is to take it and get it replaced on warranty. The port failing is really common on the newer phones, so you should have no trouble getting an exchange. I did this recently for my wife's cappy..

I'm now on my third sgs2 because my USB port malfunctioned. Charging issues, and computer not recognizing phone. I'm starting to wonder if its because there is no cover over the USB port. Its vulnerable to stuff getting in there and messing stuff up. Just a thought.

Wish there was another option. Those otterbox cases, although nice, make the phone so big.

The problem is that im rooted and there is a yellow triangle on the book screen, so IM concerned that they'll refuse warranty because the phone is flashed and the 'counter' is at 1 already according to the download mode . Any advice on how to get the phone to look presentable enough so they won't refuse warranty service?

A quick search revealed this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18608050&postcount=6
I'd try a jig first, doubt it'd need to be in there too long to register and remove the counter, but if that doesn't work I'd give the above a shot.
Edit: Found a guide that might be helpful as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18630030#post18630030

Just got mine back from Samsung. Mine is also rooted with the triangle and a counter of 2. They mistakenly thought it was intermittently powering down so they did a software update. Came back and still rooted. I knew the problem would not be fixed since they didn't take care of the loose or broken microusb port, so it is with them now. No issues with warranty or anything since it is a physical malfunction.
I made sure they put in the notes that it was a physical malfunction. Same issue. The phone was still recognized, but I had to hold the micro usb port angled up for the phone to charge. I think I'll put something like Bodyguardz on the back of the phone and get the samsung dock so the microusb isn't moving around in the port. Either way, no problems with warranties from Samsung.
U could always use mobile Odin and flash back to stock

As long as you can still get the USB to "somewhat" register a plug you can build a jig for literally 2 dollars. As long as you have a radio shack somewhere around you your good. Zedomax has a tutorial on building them on youtube, just search, how to: USB Jig. You turn the phone off, plug the jig in, and bam!! your in download mode and it reads custom binaries: 0. Then, when you reboot the phone, the yellow triangle is gone, it works awesome, and i use mine now every time I have to get into D/L mode cause its a lot faster. The building process literally took me 10 minutes, and you only plug it in for about 3 seconds before your finished. Its awesome for situations like this, hope it works out for you bud.
Im scared now, I have never ever ever had / or damaged a usb port of any kind, so how the heck did yours get damaged? I dont want to go through the reverting to stock problem to ship out cause of warranty. How many people have had this problem? If it is just a handful then Ill be less inclined to worry.
Hi. What did you do finally? I think my microusb port is broken and warranty is over. Thanks

Hey there xda'ers!
I just picked up a Titan 4G for $30  I always wanted one, I'm using an S3 right now and I plan on switching back and forth at my leisure.
The problem with the Titan is the charger port is VERY finicky. You have to really push the micro USB in and get it in just right for it to charge.
I found replacement ones on eBay for around $7ish. Has anyone replaced one before? Do you guys have any tips?
Thanks to all in advance!
Anyone?

have you checked there's no fluff in the original one? mine sometimes looks like it's charging, (ie light comes on red), but never gets charged. this usually means there's fluff inside the usb port and a good hard blow, (pardon the expression), sorts it out...

Sadly, the previous owner must have forced a mini usb into the jack or something, since all the pins are bent in. Or, it may have been dropped on the charger port while plugged in. All in all, the phone is in great shape for what I paid for it, as I always had a fascination with WP7.
I got a quote for $60-$70 to have the new USB port installed since it has to be soldered.
Even still, I plan on keeping it and ordering a back up battery charger from eBay since the phone is easily a 8/10 condition wise and I have already unlocked it :good:
