Hi all ive noticed that the video recording on the GS2 can not focus on an object when there is a light in the way or in the af area and or metering area. This is not normal?
Ive noticed it when taking night video of cars driving past and the tail lights throw off the focus and make everything blurry, i also did a test on my keyboard led lights and sure enough it also couldn't focus?
This sort of sucks because on Saturday night i was out taking video of the lights in Sydney and i could not understand why the autofocus just didnt want to focus, my friend with and ip4 gave me heaps
Do you have this problem to ?
Do u think there will be a fix for this ?

Hello everyone,
I am new here so i hope i am posting in the right place,
So i got my SGS2 last month,i love it,everything seems to be fine,i was learning tips and tricks everyday and loving it more and more, but then i noticed that in all the youtube videos when they rotate the phone, screen would rotate automatically, everytime, and mine didn't do that much frequently,it had like its own will and it would rotate sometimes and sometimes it would not, since i wanted my qwerty keyboard in landscape mode so i started looking into it,(the auto rotation was turned on)
First thing i found was horizontal calibration, tried it,it will go on for hours with out saying "calibrated" i finally had to take out the battery to switch off the phone and then re start it,with no different results.
Then i found *#0*# test, tried that, first the magnetic sensor was moving had a blue or a green line on it and i think number "2" was written on it,i read that when i rotate the phone the x,y,z readings should change ,but they weren't ,i tried image test and after rotating phone for a few times the values started changing and the image rotated,i went back to home screen and text screen also rotated and i was happy, but then after half an hour or so i picked up my phone and it again wasn't auto rotating,i did *#0*# again and this time magnetic sensor had green light on and number 3 and it was moving but when i did the image test it didn't move at all.
So finally i thought i need to put it for calibration again no matter ho long it takes,i did it again, took hours and hours all my battery was drained, and when i plugged it and re started, auto rotation was totally gone and now when i do *#0*# the sensor has a red light saying "need for calibration",accelerometer sensor has no readings and gyro selt test says "FAIL" (i don't even understand whats gyro selt test :s )
I am really freaked out here, did i damage something? plz plz plz help me,i tried reading through the forums but half the lingo i don't understand ,plz be easy with the language,i am begging for help,my family was really not happy i got this expensive phone, and now if something happens to it sorry for the long post,i'll anxiously wait for replies.
I'm having weird issues with video recording. If I start filming in bright light, the frame rate is abysmal (about 2 fps). In normal room lighting there is no problem and the frame rate is good enough.
The weird part is that if I start recording in the room light and step out side to very bright day light, the frame rate stays good. And if I start in bright light with bad fps it stays bad no matter the lighting.
Anyone else having this issue?
edit: my phone is stock and is running OS version 7.10.7740.16
Hmmm, my phone has the same configuration as yours: Stock rom and everything. I tried what you said, recording from bright light to room & vice versa, but my transitions seem to be smooth with no lags :/ I believe your camera is on it's default settings?
When in camera mode, try panning the camera from bright light to dim & vice versa, see if there are any lags of choppiness in between the transition. If there isn't, there shouldn't be any problems. If there is, I'm not sure what's causing it.
Does anyone here has had this issue as well?
I've tried to do just like you told and I have some example videos but I can't link to them as I'm new member (joined 2008, never written anything before
Couple a days I did some filming outside and I had to start recording by covering the lens with my finger every time to get normal fps. This way it works fine and I get good quality.
I don't know if it has something to do with that there's really bright outside during day because all the snow here but I can also replicate the problem by pointing camera to my monitor.
This is new issue for me too as it was working fine untill now.
btw. It seems to work fine if I use VGA quality.
I just hope I don't have to reset my phone.
Hmmm, I guess no else has had this problem. But this is a really unique one since VGA works, there's no reason why 720p isn't working. Perhaps bringing the phone to the service center might be of help? :/

Hi joaquim! Dont feel lonely, i also have this problem on my mozart phone. I've made a search on youtube, and i also noted that there are several users with the same problem.
I also have another problem, it gets difficult to change from the phone mode to video mode. Every time i press the cam icon to change the mode to video, i hear some clicks inside the phone and the imagem starts to focus. I have to click several times until i can change the mode.
Also, i see no solution for this
your not alone i have this problem too and it happened on my stock rom and even now on the latest custom rom that i installed. I have not tried the finger trick though.
I also tried doing some searching and the only thing i found pointed at possible sd card issues...i have swapped out the deafault 8gb sdcard for a 16gb one and they state that if it is not class 5/6 then it could be too slow writing 720p data.
but like you i have no problem recording 720p indoors just outside or in bright light....
I have noticed that this only occurs in 720p mode, in VGA mode works fine though
Hello, samsung disabled some options in camera in most of the shooting mode or scenes,I searched pretty much everywhere and I couldn`t find some useful information. Is really annoying that they did.For example,in a low light situation if I use the flash, 2-3 m in front of the camera will look very good but everything else will look bad, if I use the low light shooting mode, everything will look good but if I would use low light shooting mode + flash, 2-3 m in front of the camera will look very good and everywhere else will look good(perfect). Also the burst mode is pretty usefulness in good light situations as you would have to be drunk to take a blured picture but with the low light shooting mode where is very likely to get a shaky picture would be great to take at least 2-3 photos fast(even if not so fast as in normal mode) so you could be sure that you have at least 1 good picture. The examples can go on and I don`t think that I`m asking for something impossible.Did someone modded the camera app as stated above or is there any possibilty in the near future to see some of those useful options?Thank you in advance.
so not a single chance to accomplish what I want?
nobody can understand what you mean.
Wall of text is horrible
somebody on XDA posted a guide on enabling the option to switch the camera shutter sound on/off by editing the feature.xml file under /system/app/
may be you need to try something similar
but be very careful when you edit such files.

I mean that if you choose from shooting mode the "low light" or HDR or a lof of options, flash is AUTOMATICALLY disabled or you can't use the burst shoot with low light option enabled or HDR, that`s what I`m talking about. Is it possible to trick the camera software to be able to use all the options along?
You need to search and read the various camera mods and decide .

There is a reason why these options can't be used with each other.
1. low light mode is supposed to take into account that there is very little light. If you turn the flash on with low light mode then you're essentially not using low light mode anymore because flash provides loads of light.
2. HDR mode takes 2 shots (3 on some devices) with different exposures and then combines the 2. If flash is involved the 2 shots will pretty much look the same and will therefore mean HDR is useless.
3. Burst shoot takes loads of photos simultaneously and if flash is enabled the first shot will usually be taken with flash. The device simply cannot handle the flash being used up to 20 times one after another.
If there is software out there to "trick" the camera into being able to do what you describe, it won't make a positive difference to your photos. It's general photography and the way cameras and their features work that make what you want to happen, a bad idea!

that part is not true. You can use Torch in strobe mode, which flashes the flash (sounds stupid, sorry) at like 50Hz

1 if you've ever played with light settings on a dslr, you'd know cranking up ISO, low shutter speed, exposure, etc will give you such a high exposure you can't even make the picture out.. all you see is a white light.. I feel this is what would happen.. its like shining a flashlight on something during night vision, all you see is a huge white spot.. does that make sense?
its not a software limitation its just the way modern lens work.
2 agreed
3 the flash can stobe 20 or so times a second, any 'flashlight' app will show you this.. you could also leave the flash simply on..
the best workaround ffor this is use 1080p video mode with flash, it takes 30 frames (shots) a second, and while watching the video there's a camera button on screen in the stock video player. best workaround.
and yea mods will come

Yeah I agree I guess what I was trying to say is it would render low light mode useless. It would be one of those options that produces shockingly bad photos.
I forgot about the strobe, although I can't imagine this being a feature. I forgot that these "flashes" are just LEDs and not the traditional flash you get with an SLR.
The 1080p video mode is a great workaround suggestion. I hope saddameu can get something from this information.
@Glebun stop picking on me

I hope English is not your first language
That being said you are probably asking for slow-sync flash - as far as I know the S3 does not have that feature yet.
you have some good points but you took the worst combinations ever.
How can you say that is not good to take a pictures with low light enabled + flash? We are not talking about a dslr flash. If you take a picture of someone being 3-4 m away in low light conditions with flash ON it would be a better picture than taking it only with low light mode or only with flash, think about it, it will just make the person look better as the flash is not that strong to make the subject look too bright.
That is one good combination, another one could be using the burst shot with low light enabled to be sure that you take at least 1 good picture as you have to be very steady even if the burst shot would be slower in low light mode than a normal picture.I could probably take only 1 good picture in low light mode knowing the phone but if you give the phone to a friend, for example, the picture will look like it was taken from a drunk men.
Could you provide me some links with some good camera mods as I only found only hyperx`s mod.
And no, english is not my native language , I learned it pretty much by myself as in school I learned english for only 2 years but the first post was made being in rush.
Thank you,
What happens is that whenever I use the front camera, It shows normal result, I take a picture and it's cool but whenever I start recording, the screen goes dark, dull as if there's no light in the room. Same with every other application I use like snapchat. This really sucks and I hope there's a solution to fix this.
I faced the same issue with my old S2 but I thought it might be some kind of hardware issue but it actually wasn't.
Hey guys, im having a issue with the front camera. everytime i took a selfie, the camera waits about 2-3 sec and then take the photo. i had a s7 edge before and didnt have this problem. anyone knows how to fix this? its annoiyng...
me too i have lag
Disable flash and try again.
I think its caused by latest firmware update.
I'm on ARI6. I have no shutter lag unless it's trying to focus first. It's instant. As one person said, turn off the flash. That caused a "lag" but the screen turned white with a yellow lightning bolt. Thise the only pauses I've seen when using the front facing camera.
