has anyone else here been having an issue with data connectivity? this just popped out of no where? i was using my phone all of a sudden my data connection gets lost, and wont come back untill i restart the phone at least 2 times? i have another eris and it doesnt do this. should i hit up verizon and replace it? if so this will b my 4th eris from them lol......20 more months to go till i can upgrade great

I have always experienced this problem especially when my phone is tethered to my laptop. It may be my phone or it may be verizon but i know this has been discussed in the forums before.

Oddly enough, a few months ago, when my eris was still completely stock, I had the exact same problem... took two restarts, or one and then waiting twenty minutes just to see one bar of service and slow everything. I remember specifically that it starting happening after the first time I used the settings to turn off my mobile network. Now as to wether this plays a roll in it happening, Idk.

Just got my tb last night and right away loved it. After playing with it and getting a brief chance to play with the 4g I turned off the 4g since I was just outside the 4g coverage of philly. I did the *#*#4636#*#* method, idk if that matters.
Anyways, I was using wifi then for like an hour, turned wifi off, and since then I haven't been able to get 1x,3g or even 4g (when I tried turning it back on). what gives? is this another "outage" or is there something possibly wrong with my tb? when they went to activate it last night it did take several tries to find the network.
I believe there are issues currently, but I factory data reset will get your data back
I just got mine yesterday, I haven't turned on wifi yet. but my data doesn't work often already. I checked the status and it says data connection failed.
I'm already getting disappointed with my tb =[
every time, the data doesn't work, I turned my phone off and back on then it works.
oh, one time I tried to restart it, and if froze after the thunderbolt logo and the sound comes on. sigh*
I've done restart and tried airplane mode numerous times and neither worked. Haven't tried factory reset yet, if I get bored at work today I'll give that a shot. Thanks. Wasn't sure if it was just mine or a common problem.
Same data issue here got mine yesterday too hmmm what gives.
Anyway no point returning the phone for such a small issue that will be fixed in the future with updates.

Just rebooted the phone and data goes away, went to secret menu, press hard key menu turn off data connection off, turned off radio, waited for it to go off, turned back on, waited for it to come on then turned data on, then it worked.
Btw, if you live in an area with good 4g, leave it on lte only if not just 3g, the switching is what mess things up

I struggle with the same issues in Philly. The day I got the TB I had no service, I did a reset, pulled the battery, and then spent three hours on the phone with tech support. Eventually I ended up tethering to my Evo, connecting the market, and downloading an app called "restart connections." It works very well.
On the plus side, you don't even have to power down the device when you use it.
Just thought I'd let you know about it, as it's much easier and more convenient.
There have been multiple threads saying that the verizon network is currently having issues. They are fixing out as fast as they can. Any factory resets or apps that rest your connection are just good chance timing.
Reset your APN settings back to default.
I'm right outside Philly........... No problems since Wednesday, could not TXT......... I fixed by pulling the battery off while the phone still on...... it worked for me...
I called tech support today and the were very helpful !! Lol I couldn't believe it. He reset my data from there end and had me factory reset my phone and I'm running great now. My signal is much better as well.

So has anyone found a solution that doesn't require a hard reset? I have two friends with this problem, they can get 4G but not 3G. We have tried battery pulls, changing to 3G only mode, reseting the APNs, airplane mode and nothing fixes it. I don't want to tell them to hard reset only to have the problem come right back. It sounds like there is a major 3G provisioning issue with this phone and with no *228 there doesn't seem to be an easy way to fix it unless anyone has other ideas.
I've been experiencing the same issue. I called up. Hard reset failed, I also tried toggling data on/off and turning airplane mode on/off.
Of course, did the normal battery pull and reseat the SIM.
... Standing by with VZW on the phone to figure this out....
In the meantime, flashing a new ROM
just turned data on and off and i now have 1x, better than nothing, right
I just got off the phone with Verizon as my two Thunderbolts stopped getting any 3G data since Friday evening. Apparently this is a known provisioning issue and they are working on it. No need to hard reset. The rep herself had the same problem with her Thunderbolt too. Apparently they hope to have it fixed by later tonight. So many 4G issues, wondering if I should have waited a few more weeks...
I've seen this a couple of times today in my store. The only really working solutions is a hard reset and reload. It is a 3G provisioning issue because it doesn't have the standard *228 provisioning option. Not sure how VZW plans to fix.

Ok wtf!? last night im was chilling playin some black ops and all the sudden my 4g icon was gone when i had check my phone after a text. its been a day now and i still have absolutely no data connection. i called verizon and they said theres no outage in my area (metro detroit). ive tried flashing plenty of radios since and still no data. im starting to get a wee bit butt hurt because i needs my data son! could i have possibly killed the antenna some how? anyone else ever experience this?
Put it in airplane mode. Tben out. Sometimes that helps, try a battery pull? All else fails bring it in and replaced

I've had periods where my Tbolt didn't want to connect to LTE or EVDO for a long time. It generally fixed itself after enough time. Usually way less than a day though. I'm close enough I could probably take a look at it. See if it's your phone or if mine does the same thing.

where abouts are you located? im in roseville. ive been all around today for work (clinton twp, detroit, harper woods and st clair shores) and no connection in either of them areas.
could it be that ive been flashing a stupid amount of roms/radios lately? im SERIOUSLY getting butt hurt because my gal keeps sending me what she calls "naughty pics" and im not able to download them!

I'm in St. Louis, lost 4g this afternoon. Only 1x now. Could be Verizon, and nothing at all on your end. This is the first time I haven't had 4g since I got my bolt in May.
If its not Verizon, you could pull your sim for about 10 min, then pop it back in and power up the phone.

I'm down in Toledo at the moment. Things are working fine here. Only problem was the outage last night for a couple hours. Changed ROMs and radios since then, too, with no issue.

weather widget is from when i restored the rom, it wont update
edit. did a sim pull for 10 mins and vuala 1x pops up then changes to 3g. about 10 seconds later BOOM! nothing... im gonna try a sim pull for like an hour and see what happens with that. shouldnt be any difference but its worth a shot.
This could be many things, most likely you'll need a new SIM, youll need to unroot and restore stock, go into VZW, they'll give you a new one.

I'm in the same boat! Randomly lost all data a day or 2 ago. Tried everything soo far. Assumed my sim card is dead But people say it's a network problem. I get 3g in Rev.A mode. But nothing in normal mode. I'm pissed. Willing to try a new sim card but not unrooting my phone just for a sim. What would happen if you brought a rooted phone into Verizon. I just want a sim. Would they deny you service? Or put a note on your account stating your phone has been rooted and to void your warranties?
Last time I went to the store I knew more about the phone than all three reps combined. I doubt they would even know its rooted.
Put my phone in LTE mode and got 4g back finally.

Yeah, I know. But my phone doesn't look stock one bit. Custom splash, custom boot animation, sense 3.0, gingerbread 2.3.4, custom lock ring, glowing data icons, etc.... Etc..

If you were returning it, yeah, then I'd go back to stock. But, for a sim swap, you can power it off, and pull the sim for them, they won't even notice it when it boots. Unless of course your boot sound is F*** Verizon or something

im convinced its my phone. went into verizon today and the reps tbolt was working fine both 3g and 4g. we did a sim swap and still nothing although, i did get like 2 mins of 4g love about 3 hours after the sim swap but then right back to nothing after it downloaded some pics from texts.
does this have anything to do with it?

spent an hour on the phone with Verizon and they said the netowrk in my area was fine. After all was done and said they are shipping me a new sim. Today when I woke up my phone had a data connection. I haven't shut it off or anything since the tech call.

yep. it changes to "VZWINTERNET" but once i back out it goes right back to disabled.
verizon is sending me a new phone on monday, they said i just have unroot the phone i have now.
Welp I just copied eveything from the "vzwinternet" apn and made a new one and it worked...

For the past 4 days or so my phone has been able to "connect" to the 4G network but I cannot receive data over it. However when I switch the phone to 3G only data works flawlessly. Calls and SMS works fine but the browser and any apps that use data say no connection. The connection icon is grey instead of blue.
I've been running CM7.1 on the thunderbolt just fine for months but I decided to use another ROM just to be sure. Put thundershed 1.6 on today and for a while 4G worked but it died again. was using radios 1.48.00.0906w_1, 0.01.78.0906w_1. Thought it may be a problem with those so I flashed the just-released 1.49.00.0406w_1, 0.01.79.0331w_1. No change.
I've gone through all the other troubleshooting steps too, hard/soft reset, battery pull. reseat SIM card, toggle airplane mode, switch off the LTE radio, etc. Called verizon and they confirmed I have a recent PRL.
Anybody have thoughts as to how I can fix this?

I don't think its anything we can fix ourselves. So many people are having problems similar to this that it must be verizon. I had exactly the same problem you are talking about and I can get it to straighten out by turning airplane mode and taking it back out.

I really hope it is verizon and not my phone, but I've talked to them probably 3 times in the past 2 days and no one has even hinted that they are having network problems.
So right now I guess I just have to wait it out. Man I hate streaming music over 3g...

Update on the situation - My 4G data is back after about a week.
Looks like I was temp banned from Verizons 4G for using too much of my unlimited plan. Can anyone confirm this happening to other people?
Thats what I suspect at least, it could be a coincidence and their 4G tower in my area was broken for almost exactly a week.

It happens to me. Called Att about the the situation and they checked the surrounding towers, told me reset the phone, blah, blah, blah. They told me to go to my Att local warranty repair shop and swap it out. Lol.

I have to do this at least three times a day. Turning on and off airplane always works. I'm on the base 0.7.3 and the freegee kernel that comes packaged with the base.

So the data indicator disappears altogether? Does the issue occur in multiple locations more than a few miles apart? When data returns is it slow, pages time out etc or does it function as it should? Has it been that way since you got the phone or did you notice it after a change to the device (software update/ change in software)?

The indicator on the status bar is unchanged. You can have full bars showing 4g, and this will happen.
This occurs all over the place. (My apartment, office, etc)
When it returns, everything is normal and fast.
I flashed The Base about one week after getting the phone (got it right before Thanksgiving). Started noticing this behavior maybe 2-3 weeks ago. (also random reboots, but this thing reboots so fast I could care less.)
If it's occurring everywhere you go it's def not a network issue, could potentially be related to provisioning but its doubtful, if you're being throttled it would be consistent edge speeds not intermittent on then off. All signs point to device, could be hardware but 90 percent of the time it's software related. You could call tech support first, they can verify its not provisioning or network related then will recommend flash back to stock or you can just skip the call and flash first. If all else fails hardware would be the culprit in which case its covered under manufacturers warranty. On a side note I do know our roaming agreement for some parts of TX expired a few weeks ago and that could potentially be related to your issues, although if you show good sig and others around you hadn't been experiencing the same probs you could rule that out too.

I've had the same issue. it's like the device isn't switching between wifi and LTE properly. sometimes it transitions just fine and other times it only looks like i have a connection. in fact, some things will come thru, like email...but web browsing or facebook do not work. if i do the 'airplane mode' trick or I'll just reboot it the issue is resolved.
I'm hoping CM10 will correct this issue...if not, I'll go back to stock and try to swap the device.

I'm having the issue well. I called att and they said they were going to replace the sim and if that didn't fix it, they would see what LG said for warranty replacement. I just noticed it a few weeks ago.
I'm completely stock.
Happening to me too on my replacement device. For example I will try to access an address via Google Maps and it will say "No Connection" despite '4g' displaying with full bars. A toggle to airplane mode and back fixes the issue - and all of a sudden LTE will show up. This did not happen on my previous LGOG and I'm running the same software environment (unlocked, thebase .73) It's frustrating for sure.

Seeing this behavior here as well. I can also verify it seems to happen when switching for HSPA to LTE.
I'm all stock too.
Also getting this issue. I'm on Nocturnal with unlocked sim running on Tmobile. I'm glad it isn't just a Tmobile issue... It's probably software related

This problem presented itself to me yesterday. It basically went into airplane mode by itself and then immediately reconnected. It was after a phone call, when it was switching back to lte.
I think this is a baseband software problem as well. That ~300MB ota seems to have a new modem bin in it so it'll be nice to see if the newer radio firmware helps. Moden bins seem to be easily dd'd from pc to phone.

Yeah, I was thinking the new update would solve this but I guess I'll just wait until Nocturnal incorporates this into one of their roms
Interesting, this may be why the stock weather app periodically is not updating (even though I have 4 bars and 4G logo) and I get the message that it "cannot retrieve current location" turn on WiFi and everything is good?

I'm on T-Mobile and having this issue, I wasn't before on my old Sensation 4g so I know it isn't the area that I'm in.
I work two weeks at a time in an area where I don't get data coverage (even cell coverage is spotty at best). I do have access to (slow) WiFi. I've noticed that if I connect to the WiFi, then go out of range or if my phone goes into deep sleep, when the phone tries to reconnect, sometimes it will tell me I'm connected, but have no actual connection (404 error when loading websites), or it will tell me the WiFi network is out of range, when I know it's not.
The only way I can get it to reconnect is to reboot. The airplane mode on/off trick doesn't work for me.
Is this part of the same issue as the switching from data to WiFi? Anyone have any clue as to how to fix this?
