Hi,
I have the X10 mini, I want to tether with it to a laptop. (With the app. "Easy Tether").
I need a simple app that would count my (volume) data transfer- I have a limit of 1Gb and don't want to exceed it.
Any recomendation?
netcounter is sweet
Thx

DroidStats can do that, too

I currently have a 10mb/month data plan allowance which I'm using for WhatsApp IM. The app itself has only used around 1 mb total over a couple of weeks, so thats all good.
However, once I activate 3g, other apps and services also automatically start using data. If I let this happend my usage will surpass my 10mb allowance in no time, and I will have to pay extra (I live in a country where data plans are crazy expensive).
So now I ask you: What are the best settings for making sure those other apps cannot use data, but that only WhatsApp can? Are there any apps to regulate this? Also, is it possible to create profiles (when I'm on wifi I obviously don't mind that other apps use the internet)?
Thanks in advance! By helping me you will save me a lot of hard earned money!
10mb plan? WTF pathetic plan.
My best guest would be to search around for a firewall app.

Like stated in the first post, the price for data plans in my country is way too high so I had to pick the cheapest one. When I'm at home I have wifi anyways so this is only for on the go WhatsApp chatting. Changing the data plan is not an option.

THANK YOU! After googling a little I found this:
"Droidwall - Android application firewallRequiring you to root your Android device, DroidWall is designed to protect users who don’t have unlimited or at least generous data plans with their mobile networks from applications that habitually connect to the web to exchange information.
Cleverly, this app can tell the difference between Wi-Fi access and cellular data – as such it is able to permit all data transfer via Wi-Fi, requiring apps to be added to a whitelist in order for them to access the cellular data network.
Available free via the Android Market and AppBrain.com, note that DroidWall can only be installed on a rooted device."
Dont work on X10. This Programm need iptables and Sony Ericsson not activated it on X10.

Could you please elaborate on this?
I want to have an app that displays every server the atrix is connected to, something like netstat but better.
I have seen lots of options on the market, like network monitor for example.
Have seen on other forums recommendations for: trafficstats, network monitor, etc
Anyone here uses one of these apps, what would you recommend? Thanks

i have 3g watchdog, it's very good as a data counter, and while it does say what data gets sent/received by app, it's not what i want. I want to know the addresses and ports of the current connections the phone makes, similar to netstat (which i already have) but with a nice UI (like for example, map what addresses are being used by apps)
You can use tráfic counter. Its very nice. And have wigedt

I use "shark for root" and if you don't like the sark reader app you can export it to a full system with wireshark on it and use that to read the data file. I hope that helps because it's the only program that I can think of that does anything remotely close to what you want besides "overlook".
Hi,
I am new on this forum, and I am happy I joined to this forum.
I have Xperia mini ST15i with android 2.3.4
I downloaded a version of skype raider(v. 2.5.0.160), but when i sign in i notice it does not show all contacts and all groups correctly.
So i installed IM+ to run skype, but it costs a lot on GPRS in my country.
I am wondering if anyone can give me a clean free version, and weather it will cost less than IM+ or not on GPRS.
BTW, I rooted my mobile, and I installed Droidwall, but IM+ still costs a lot.
Thanks in advanced.
most apps will cost the same as im+... i use e-buddy only through wifi tho. i have mobile data off. so either get an unlimited data plan or use wifi only, regardless of the app you're using.

Thank you for the quick response. Actually I need to use skype on 2g and as I told you that's the reason of why I rooted my phone
i.e. installing Droidwall and control the data plan on gprs. So now I just need a recommended version of skype, besides I think skype app gives us more services not existed in IM+.
Have you tried imo.im?
Thanks, iI tried imo, and I found it costs more than IM+, but imo takes less time to sign in rather than IM+
There is new skyp in market!
I use it and it's perfect ;-)

I already stated in a topic that it is now possible the use of Onavo, but i wanted to make sure everbody was aware of this so:
I've had requested in the Sony forums a feature to allow the use of Onavo Extend which didn't work in the last ICS version, with this update it is now possible to use this app.
I only have 35 mb /per week so this app comes in handy....
Cheers
Was already possible by installing tun.ko, but it's awesome to heat they listen to the users

Xperia S on ICS have built-in Bandwidth management, right? or that onavo have more functionality and does better at bandwidth management?
They use compressing methods to save you data, all traffic you go to passes through their servers.
Blackberry selphones also compress data...
Using Opera Mini instead of the regular browser is something which has a similar effect as this one. Onavo Extend works for pretty much everything though.
hello, hope you all good
i have a small question
Some employe are stealing Internet from work mobile phones (these phones are for QR saning so have to be internet to send data to server. also no wifi there). for example every phone has 10gb on it's sim card but they finish it fast cause maybe sharing it with there phones
