Recently purchased the gs2 sim free and stuck my orange sim into it
however, when I go to 'settings' > 'about phone' > 'status'
'My Phone Number' shows 'Unknown'
it hasn't caused any problems YET
however, I've read reports that it can stop you using certain apps
is there a fix to this?
btw, i'm currently on stock ROM, unrooted.

Stick your sim into an older phone and you should be able to set the sim phone number manually. Sadly there's actually no way to do this on Android (even though it is capable!).
used a blackberry and fixed it, thanks a lot
My number now shows on my SGS2 and this is how I did it.
I put the sim into my SE k850i,
Menu > contacts > options > special numbers > My numbers, then enter your number.
When you put the sim card back into your Samsung the number should show up under settings.
Hope this help.
Should be similar for other SE k models too.
If you can stomach it, iPhones can also edit the SIM number.

Can you try to use the search now option? I just tried it on my phone and it works fine. Also, check to make sure Network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA (AUTO MODE)
Additionally, go to settings manage applications. select menu button >> Filter >> Show all >> Call settings and select clear data.

Do you have access to a tmobile post paid sim, if so give it a try. I am not sure why it will not let u connect to the network, unless tmobile had you blocked somehow.

I had this same issue. It was finally fixed with a new sim card. TMobile stated that there is a new sim card that fixes issues due to their new 3g+(4g) network. The sim would work fine on my older BB but wouldnt work on my Vibrant. They replaced the sim for free at the T-Mobile store and I have been fine since. I hope thats your same issue.
How would I update my x10 to 2.1 on AT&T in the U.S?

This has been discussed many, many times on here and elsewhere. AT&T did NOT release the 2.1 update yet. If you are impatient, you can go here and flash the X10a world generic firmware. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825201
^^^^^^^^^
I'm a USA AT&T customer. I used that and I have had no problems that were not my fault in the first place
I to am on at&t I flashed 2.1 generic onto my phone no problems just remember to put your apn's in ajd you will jave 2.1 enjoy
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Thread moved to Q&A.
A question for those more informed than myself
Hey Guys, wondering if you all could help me out.
I Updated my Xperia X10a on At&t using the flash method and now I cannot connect to the network... I've been looking around, but I cannot find any hits for my issue.
Basically when I go to Mobile Networks and search, it finds the AT&T Carrier, but when I click it and it tries to register it says "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"
Just stumped, that's what I am...

You need to set your APN settings
Go to settings --> wireless & netwroks --> mobile networks --> access point names and creat a new APN as follows:
<name> att
<apn> wap.cingular
<proxy> wireless.cingular.com
<port> 80
<username> not set
<password> not set
<server> not set
<mmsc> http://mmsc.cingular.com
<mms proxy> wireless.cingular.com
<mms port> 80
<mcc> 310
<mnc> 410
<apn type> not set
I tried before to put an APN in, but with slightly different settings (username and passwords)...
Anywho, I tried your settings, I go to APN's and hit menu > New... Fill out all your information, then hit menu > save... It goes back to the blank apn screen... is that normal? or shouldn't it show the new one I just made?

You can then go back and choose it as your default. The settings I have are 100% working.
If that does not work, try repairing your firmware with SEUS.
the screen after you click "Access Point Names" just says "APNs" at the top. When I make a new one, it doesn't show up... ideas?
Also, if I restore with SEUS, will it restore 2.1? or back to 1.6?

You will restore to whatever firmware you have right now. I suggest you do this first (restore using SEUS) then enter your APN settings.
Okay, so I have done a repair through SEUS and gotten back to where I was...
Same issue... I can get into the APNs area and create a new one, but it doesn't seem to save... there is a blank area where I know there should be a list.
Also, let me express my appreciation that you are taking the time to help me.

Weird. OK try Settings --> Sony Ericsson (should be top option in the menu). Make sure you are connected to a WiFi network and try downloading the settings from SE servers.

Guys, it is not APN issue - it says "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network". I had the same message before unlocking mine. But maybe I have a working hunch. When I received mine locked to TMO UK phone and tried my TMO US SIM, it just stuck on screen with network unlocking key input that is the way locked phone behaves under 1.6. But I blew away dust from my old proxy SIM card for unlocking iPhone 2008 and it worked! I was glad to save some bucks, but when I flashed 2.1, after around 16 hours I got the same error message about network and no service anymore. I had contact issue with this proxy card, so I tried several times and eventually broke it, so now I am unable to research it deeper. Without this proxy SIM card my phone behaved differently - it wanted network unlock code just after turning on. With proxy it booted silently and just showed that the network is unreachable. So I see exactly the same behavior in your phone as mine with proxy SIM card. It sounds weird and I didn't find another case like mine, but look like some way your phone is locked. I remember when iPhone wasn't cracked yet, some phones were hardware unlocked by installing some proxy cards inside the phone (by soldering), so you just need to insert your own card and it worked like unlocked. It is the only logical explanation for me now. How did you get your phone? If it is officially from ATT store, just replace it. If not - Houston, we have a problem.
No, its nothing like that... The phone is a stock att phone from an att store... It was working previously just fine and this whole mess started aster I flashed it to 2.1...
Could I have missed something while flashing I wonder?

Probably not. The only thing is getting the APN settings and all should be working fine. This may be dumb, but are you sure you are entering all the info correctly and then saving the settings. You should then choose it as your default APN.

So one more time:
Settings --> Wireless & Networks --> Mobile Networks --> Access Point Names.
Then press the far left button with the 4 boxes on top of it and click New APN and enter the settings as mentioned earlier.
If not, then try a hard reset. Remove the battery while the phone is still on, remove the SIM card and wait 10 minutes before putting it back in and turning on the phone.
Hello I have a really annoying but strange issue I cant make phone calls or send and receive text messages but I can browse the internet.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 which im sure is sim unlocked but im not 100% sure. It has been working ok up until recently something has changed but Ill be dammed if I know.
I am using GiffGaff and reported my SIM lost so they send me a new one with the same number on it but this did not work.
Im running the stock ROM ..I tried to re-root the phone but this did not work.
I have done a factory reset this has not worked.
If I take the sim out of the S3 and put in into either my old HTC Desire or HTC Desire S it works fine i.e I can make and recieve phone calls.
But soon as I put it back in the S3 it says "Unable to regsiter on network" so it HAS to be the S3 but im sure it is sim unlocked! ive previosuly tried Vodoo unlocker and it said sim lock status inactive could it be wrong?
I tried similar to this: (But when I got to network lock it says on my S3 (MENU NOT EXIST PRESS BACK KEY Current command is 186) what does this mean???
==============================================================================
"Put in a different SIM card to the one you use with your carrier.
Switch the device off and on again with the SIM card in place.
Open your dial pad and then type in *#197328640#.
Go to Main Menu > [1] UMTS > [1] Debug Screen > [8] Phone Control > [6] Network Lock > Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF > and wait 30 seconds or so.
Then hit Menus and choose Back. You should now see Network Lock. Then choose [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ."

No it starts 35 ?
so it matches with the one under the battery?
If the SIM works in other phones then the S3 is the problem, try a SIM from another network in the S3 to see if that connects.
If it doesn't then I'd guess the phone IMEI has either been blocked or is locked to another network (but wou would see a network lock message in that case). You say you can still access data - are you sure that is with wifi turned off? If it is unable to register on the network then gprs won't work either.
I suppose it might be possible for a part of the radio modem to corrupt, or a hardware fault. Try flashing a full stock ROM including a radio, with a full wipe before trying the SIM again.

on the battery the IMEI ends in 678570 /1
Not sure if thats relevant?
I am not conncencted by Wifi soon as i hit "Mobile Data" GPRS is enabled and data is enabled. Ok ill try what you said.

The bit after / is not relevant on the IMEI .
Have you actually entered the GiffGaff APN settings .
Or are you running on O2/ Tesco settings and not Giffgaffs .
Backup data and factory reset first .
Then update firmware .

I have double checked thatmy APN settings are correct as used this gudie: http://community.giffgaff.com/t5/Le...tings-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-Also/td-p/4491856
I know they must be working as soon as I enable the giff gaff APN I get GPRS data just i still cant make phone calls.
I have already tried a factory reset this didnt make any differance. When I try to force and upgrade on the S3 it says "Your device has been modified sotware updates are not avialble"
I have ordered a free micro sim from Three (thats the network i know my S3 was originaly supplied by) once i have triem them ill update.
I have run a CHECK MEND Report it is showing as this:
Ever blocked CheckMEND has a record of this item having been blocked by a cell phone network
Currently blocked CheckMEND has a record that this item is currently blocked by one or more cell phone networks

Phone specs out of the way first: GT-i9300, Android 4.3 (via OTA), sim unlocked, not rooted, Baseband i9300UBUGNF1, Kernel 3.0.31-2320216, and the IMEI matches the frame.
So I've got a problem that's very similar to a lot of other people with one or two exceptions. I get the "Mobile Network Not Available" error message and I've tried the suggested fixes except for the Ariza patch and I haven't tried changing my modem. I don't want to jump into either of them yet because I'm not sure my problem is the same as all the others. Here's why:
When I go to set the network manually via Settings > More Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Operators > Wait till your device is searching for operators. Once the search is done it will show a list of Network Operators ... Nope, not mine. Mine shows nothing and goes right back to the menu showing Search Networks and Select Automatically. Tapping Search Networks brings the same result. If I set the Network Mode on the previous menu to GSM only, it takes less time to search, but still returns nothing.
Also, I don't have any bars. Not as in having bad signal, but as in there is no signal strength indicator in the status bar. Instead, I have a circle with a line through it next to the battery level indicator. I can not even make emergency calls with the phone.
I haven't found anyone with this particular problem yet, even though I've been searching all day. Perhaps I'm not searching for the right thing?
I've tried an old ATT sim and an active GivMobile sim, both with the same results. Both sims will register networks on other phones. I started out on 4.1.2 and did the OTA updates to get to 4.3 with no change in symptoms. I did a factory reset before doing the updates. I've never had a custom ROM on the phone. The IMEI doesn't show up as blacklisted on any site I used to check it. I even went as far as replacing the SIM card reader.
Could my antenna be bad? Could I have the wrong modem for the networks I'm trying to get onto? Any opinions or direction would be greatly appreciated.

"(via OTA)" means you have samsung's original ROM?
Reflashing a Samsung-based ROM fixed my IMEI problem some months ago. I don't know if you are on a custom or original ROM, if it is a custom ROM I believe that you already know the process...
Revolution HD 53 is a great custom samsung-based ROM and fixed my issues. Be careful on what you flash, if you're going to do this
Im having the same problem as you had. Just wondering if you found out how to fix your phone. Ive a samsung j3(2016) SM-J320FN. Got a new sim the other day and have been trying everything to get service, restored to factory setting but nothing seems to be working. Like you nothing came up in network operators. Sim works fine in other phones. If anyone can shead some light on the suituation please feel free to reply
Particularly *#100# - to locate phone number says "Connection Problem or invalid MMI code"
And Ping test says ipv6 fails also...
Any fixes?
Anyway to find out phone number on a sim card with no credit without calling customer services?
Browse to Settings > About phone/device > Status. You might see the number listed here. If not, tap the SIM status entry to open another menu. Scroll down a bit here and you should see My phone number.
But it may be different if you transferred number from one sim to another

*#100# doesnt work for me either
type -#06# and see if your imei numbers come up
Also with some network carriers when you top up it ask if you want to top up your own number which it reads out or another so you could try that
That gives me the same error code as OP.
I didnt really want to top it up, it was only to access O2 priorities.
