Anyone know why HTC changed their minds from the "industry standard" JPS (JPEG Stereo, as the optimus 3D uses) to MPO?
I know the LG phone supports both formats for viewing, but HTC are not responding to my questions these days about the Evo 3D so I don't know if it supports both formats or just the more limited mpo

seems a bit strange to change it at the last minute away from what is considered the "industry standard"
Guess we'll just have to wait and find out to see if it supports both.
Where have you heard they'll only support mpo? Havnt seen that idea anywhere.....

I saw in a video the option to select both of those, I don't see the point to this thread

They told me the camera will shoot in JPS format, then when phones start appearing it uses MPO, I was wondering why the move away from the industry standard so close to launch.
I also never said it didn't support JPS, I was saying I've asked them if it does but have not had a response.

so when asking why HTC left it out (turns out they haven't, they just changed the default) how is CM an answer?

The AOSP ROMs are notoriously bad about getting 'special' features like camera and GPS working like stock. I'm not sure why there is so much faith in devs doing impossible stuff with the hardware.

Why not I've seen devs do amazing work that completely alters the phone in ways you wouldn't imagine would have been possible.

It will be the the individual EVO 3d developers (Myn, xXxVirusXxX, etc.) who develop and actually make our EVO 3d's do things that HTC doesn't want us to do. Cyanogen will not care about what files the EVO 3d can read as it doesn't matter across the board.

The LED notifications isn't across the board either. Neither is WiMax.

Untrue. People who just produce ROMs based off of Shipped HTC ROMs won't be adding any functionality in at all. Sorry to break it to you. Actual modders may infact tackle adding functionality into the phone which ROM chefs will undoubtedly put in their own ROMs.

Virus, Myn, Netarchy, Leoisright said they will develop....who ever said they left? There are a few more that are just waiting for the gates to open. Not to mention xHausx, agrabren(teamwin), shinzul(teamwin,cm)..others who developed for OG evo..Tiffany84(will she develop?)...and the current ones we have now...I don't know about you...this is a powerhouse team....and just sitting back back...impatiently as the rest of us are for them to do their magic.....I am damn glad I have this phone....

I'm sorry i should have worded it different. I know we got people working on the 3d. It's a beast I love it. But having a 2nd 3d device out by HTC should broaden the apps released in the market and even apps by HTC. More movies, maybe even netflix support, maybe official 3d HTC widgets, Games?(gameloft has a few,and then......). If that article is correct it would be 7 inch 3d monster

And that reason would be enough for me to stay with the 3D even if i hated it..lol..but its a beast and i wouldnt trade it for any other phone especially not any garbage samsung or moto
Don't be sorry...the problem is that 3d is a new technology on the phone...how many apps can you develop for it for 3d only? The flyer is no different...if you strip out the 3d....the 3vo is still a formidable phone. The main developers I see will be on roms...kernels and system apps..modders will do the themes and landscape of design...there is a huge potential for this phone...the flyer...I think it is cool and nice...but until 3d becomes mainstream....most of the development will be done on the rest of the areas..be it phone or tablet...

LOL....she dev'ed for the OG EVO.....she. made up some sweet themes for the kingdom port.....she's also made a few skins for us here.....she's learnng as she goes....I think she's gonna be a good asset to us here.....prettty stoked about it all!!

Where can we find API documentation on how the 3D in these things work? There isn't anything in the current Android build. HTC should release and support their API's as plugins for Android or something?

I haven't had the opportunity to tinker with it yet, but can't Netflix be ran on pretty much any android device if you change the build.prop info to show the device as a samsung... Or even a HTC Evo 4G? Again, I don't have it in hand, but I would imagine that would work through ES file with temp root...?

The same 4G's netflix apk has been working on the 3vo since day 1. Now the market version offically supports the evo 3d.
It doesnt matter but.. you cant change the build prop file without perm root because you have to reboot the phone for it to take effect.

If we cant have camera on ics until HTC releases ics for E3D than that also means that we cant have 3D in aosp if htc doesnt releases source for 3D
Now i kind of hate a bougth this phone.
I never realy liked sense, i tought, i will just install some aosp rom and remove stupid sense, but then i fell in love in 3D.
Now im not using 2d camera at all.

well, you could just buy the development kit from the camera controller makers if this bug you so much, a few tens of kdollars and you're allright.

Looking like 003's are the only ones out. Be interesting to see when that changes and how it affects rooting and so on. I remember some issues with versions of the 3D. Thanks for chiming in folks.
I'm 0003. I think the amount of zeros is proportional to the level of awesomeness. Oh...also I'm rooted.
Less than a month ago was relased for the ONES S the jelly bean upgrade. Is there the possibility to see that on EVO one day? Is anybody working on it?
When the one s c2 has its Update, devs will port it for sure ^^

It was released at the end of December, but I think HTC has used some encryption on their recent RUU's to make them harder to port.

Probably this is the worst news ever for me htc hates us lol I hope there would be a method to decrypt RUU, because evo can go on a bit more with developing..
Probably not. The only thing we can do now is maximize the current technology available to us and hope for the best.

I think the developers will come up with at least one 4.1.1/Sense 4+ ROM for the Evo 3D if for no other reason than to prove that they can. The more obstacles HTC puts in the way the more of a challenge it becomes.
It just might take a little longer than ports done in the past. Tools like the one you linked will help.
