To all the complaints and complainers.. - HTC EVO 3D

If you don't like the 3D or it gives you headaches, don't use it. The phone still has gorgeous display, dual core, sense 3.0 and blah blah blah....
Charging port on the side not good in car......get a usb power adapter..(you can't find it anywhere that sells chargers) and use your included power cable and plug into charger and into car..its more than long enough..the port is on the side for the dock..get over it...
Next is the shutter button...ITS SUPPOSED TO BE BIG AND SHOWY..it won't fall off or break...if it does its covered under warranty....

This shutter button is tiny.

Why is everyone in this thread so mean!?

Its not mean to be mean..but today i have notices 30 threads all complaining about the same **** that is miniscule and solvable for 5 dollars or the flick of a toggle switch.

i think OP needs a hug

I don't mind the size of the shutter button. It just feels flimsy to me, I can picture it falling off eventually. It is very loose along with the 2D/3D button.

not loose, actually it should spin...its on a toggle...

Oh no! Not light bleed!!! Say it ain't so!

I got my brand new 3vo and the first thing I see is light bleed!
It is along the bottom of the screen. I'm scared to boot the other one I ordered.

I can't believe people have had this phone for like 36 hours and this is the first thread!!!
Yep the 3D does have light bleed along the bottom of the screen and up the sides. Doesn't appear to be as bad as the Evo 4G but it is there.
And I don't thing the power button is any different either. It the same hard to find one on my Evo 4g.

Yup, same here. It's minor, and doesn't really bother me. Barely noticeable.
The powerbutton though, how's it hard to find? It's always in the same spot and never moves!
yes, this is one of the things i wish htc fixed but i have it too.. im going to ask for a new one because i have a white spot near the home button from the light.. guess the black under the glass didnt cover that little pin size spot.
as for the light bleed... i always use a case on my phone, do i dont see it much. sucks that its there i guess but not a deal breaker

Mine is the same way, a little light bleeding from the capacitive buttons, but not a big deal at all.
I see it in a well lit room. I had to go in a dark room with my dslr to get the picture. maybe I'll get a case but I sure do like to streak.

No bleed with my Otterbox covering the bottom of the phone. =)

To each there own. Personally I don't like companies doing shotty work on any part of my device. It's not bad but when I'm laying in bed on the EVO it was annoying and could make watching videos not good. Like I said I'm weird but I like my products made with care and without batch defects.
That being said it not as bad as the original but its a shame they couldn't fix such a stupid issue.

Of course it's not a big deal, but it's really something that just shouldn't happen. When cheaper phones by HTC can have no leaks, then it means it's all just a matter of quality control.
Both phones have light bleed at the bottom. It's there. It is very hard to photograph. I won't go into why it is so hard to photograph. But it shows up very well in a bright room.
No light bleed here whatsoever

It's Not Light Leakage!

I kept reading about this in the forums until I got mine and noticed it for myself. It's actually not light leakage. The light from the capacitive buttons is so bright, it reflects off of the, ever so slight, edge around the glass. If you feel around the edge, you can just barely feel the raised edge. The way this thing is built, I find it hard to believe that they would skimp on that part.
The light is visible even if you cover the buttons, so it's not reflecting from outside the chassis. No doubt it's hitting and reflecting off the glass, but it's internal, where you would expect there to be some sort of enclosure around the LEDs to prevent such an occurrence. Doesn't really bother me though.

I believe you're right. Reaper said the same in a similar thread around here. This phone is sealed tight, it's not like the OG EvO. HTC needs to tone down the capacitive buttons in an update. For now, Screen Filter works.

Mine does it too. The capacitive threshold is set too light. Hopefully that's a build.prop value (or something along that line that can be edited) that we can adjust when we get root.

Very clearly light leakage. I covered mine with electrical tape and it was still EXTREMELY obvious. I could honestly care less though.
Call it what you want, but it's due to the capacitive buttons being excessively too bright. People are complaining regardless of "light leakage". It needs to be toned down a tad.

Never has a single problem with my EVO in the year I had it, with the exception of dropping it down a flight of (concrete) stairs last month and completely destroying it. No light leaking. No speaker issues. No camera issues. No flash issues. No button issues...need I continue?
Clearly HTC is capable of making a (physically) good phone...don't know that this one is it.
there are plenty of people who had light leak and screen lift with the evo.
just because you got a good one does not mean that overall the build quality was better then the evo 3d.
Those damned lights are so bright, I can see the outside on a sunny day. What a waste. Gimme a setting to kill them permanently. I know there's an app, but I like auto brightness on the rest. Somebody make an app that let's me leve auto but turns off those lights!

Does this happen when you show the 3d to someone?

Every single time I show the 3d to someone they keep turning it to the left and right thinking it's like those 80's baseball cards. I tell them just to hold it still but then they start the repetitive tilting for no reason. Anyone else always get this?
I'm not mad but think it's hilarious. Just look at the screen. How hard is that?
Every. Single. Time.
Well every person has different peripheral vision so they have to angle it left and right until the two images become one. I actually tell people to do that. Otherwise some just see two images. Also aligning the 3D image for yourself will screw it up for others. Not everyone sees the same.
happens to me all the time

You are quite correct. People have different peripheral vision and different dominant eye. However, most people angle the device +/- 30 degrees while the actual angle needed for optimal 3D effect is closer to 5 degrees. What I've noticed is that the distance of the device to the eyes is a much bigger factor in the 3D effect.
You have to admit, flipping it back and forth is a cool effect too! Eventually I'll actually be able to see the 3d effect. Right now, the flippy stuff is all I see, semi-superimposed images.
Yes, you eyes have a ton to do with whether you can see the 3d or not. 2 months ago I had major eye surgery to repair a torn retina, therefore my eyes do NOT focus together. (I'll be getting a contact to correct this soon) Then I'll be able to see if the 3d is "worth" it.

Oh ya I mean it needs angled just a tiny bit left and right.
i have had people do the same thing.. so now i tell every person i hand it to, just to look at it straight on and relax their eyes, like they are looking at one of those old school 3d pictures.. i havent had a single person do it since i started telling them that..and i agree the distance place a factor in the image..
Zone had it right. It's what you did when you first got the phone. Don't lie, you had to adjust it to find your sweet spot. The only thing I hate is when people look at it for less than 5 seconds and just give up on it and say that they cant handle it. Now I do understand that too, and I probably have some of the worst eyes on this forum, but it just bugs me, not really that bad though because I like the 3D.

Yes I understand aligning the image. And I do explain that. I'm talking about them trying to view the image like it's on a see saw(that's why I brought up the 1980's baseball cards).
I even had one person say to me "Wow I bet with 3D glasses these photos would be crazy!" (while continuously tilting the phone...).

One of my friends felt an overpowering urge to scratch the screen with his nail to get that zipper sound (he didn't do it though).
I always start it, make sure it is in 3D and then say you have to hold it so you get the angle. You'll know when it's working. Then I let them figure it out.
My favorites are the ones who flip the entire phone over because they think it's like 5 inches thick because of the depth of the 3D

The Eagle has landed!!
This is one beautiful phone!
I really like it!! the screen is pretty crazy. I can look at it from any angle and it looks crystal clear sharp like the fake photo's they put on phones in stores that aren't powered on.
I give build quality a B, but compare it to other phones its def an A+. A step in the right direction and i hope phone manufacturers continue in the trend, phones just feel terrible nowadays, all plastic ETC. They just dont last the abuse they are put through.
kickstand is beyond sturdy. OG Evo wasn't 100% stable and this one (probably because of placement) is amazingly stable, even when its in portrait facing you.
one quirk i've noticed so far; is that the dedicated camera button doesn't actually open the camera app. But it probably just needs to be set somewhere, but that brings up a point.. you could set it to anything you wanted....
edit: aha! just gotta hold the button for a second (it vibrates to let you know it registered) and then let go, and then it opens. pretty nice for the accidental bump!
Question on Burst mode w/ led flash...how does that work (if it does at all)?
Is it a continuous flash or does the light stay on..it's kinda minor, but I've been wondering. I would think continuous shot would be best used in low light situations to avoid blur..hence my question..
Display is beautiful. can't stress that enough.
It's about half as thick as the OG evo, I was shocked how this it is.. it's almost as thin as an ipod touch.
My *only* complaint so far has been the camera button. I was under the impression that pressing the button even when your phone is locked would bring the camera up.. it doesn't.
And even when it's unlocked, I have the press the camera button 3 or 4 times to get it to come up. Hopefully it's just a software issue HTC can fix.
I'll try and answer any questions you guys might have, though I'm at work so burst mode camera flash testing is probably off the table
Kick stand is awesome... i'm charging my phone in the "alternate" kick stand position right now, and it seems plenty sturdy.. even having a heavy case I don't think would phase it.

Please, help correct me if I'm wrong...

My Galaxy Nexus died in a horrible freak accident, and SquareTrade ended up sending me a wad of cash to find another phone. Logically, I wanted to take the S3 for a test drive because it's the newest, hottest kid on the block (and I missed not having a MicroSD card).
I picked up my T-Mobile S3 in store today for the full retail price, and walked out excited as I always am to have a new toy in hand. Now, beware, I'm going to say some negative things about this phone, but that is because I want you guys to tell re-assure me that I'll learn to love it, or they'll get fixed etc because I really want to like this phone.
First off, the good things over my dead GNex:
Speed: Holy cow, that Krait CPU is blindingly fast. I knew the GNex was never a rocketship, but I wasn't aware of how slow it was until I played with the S3. Things run like butter, and JB(4.1) is only going to make that more amazing.
Camera: Yeah, the GNex camera sucks. This isn't as amazing as I hoped it would be, but it is nice to have something that instantly looks like crap.
Screen: It is a sweet screen, but I'm not sure if it is better than the GNex. If it is, I don't really see it (and can't compare side by side) and is still in amazing screen.
Now, the things I don't like:
SMS: WHY THE **** does my SCREEN turn on EVERY TIME an SMS comes in??? WHERE IS THE SETTING TO KILL THAT?!
Lockscreen: The "barely touch" to unlock is a joke. (Yes, I know you can replace it)
The body: Man, that blue looks pretty, but holy balls is that phone a pain to hold on to in 90 degree heat. What's the point of making a gorgeous phone that you have to keep in a case?
Build quality: It honestly doesn't feel as "solid" as the gnex, but has anyone had any quality issues with theirs yet?
Bloatware: I thought the Sensation was bad when I bought it, but this phone has so many apps that I never want to use, it's not even funny. I spent the first half hour going through and disabling applications.
Signal Quality: I drive a certain stretch of road that is hell on connections. I've had HTC's, Samsungs, etc drop out. It's just a great place to test radios and phones... Well, this one? Drops as much as the old HTC G2 did, if not more. Absolutely impossible to keep a signal. Now, thinking it was a bad signal day, I popped my micro SIM in an adapter and back into my HD2 and drove the road again... This time? No issue.
Home button: Really? A hard to press, narrow button for the most used button on the phone? I worry about dropping the phone, as it is so light, I have to hold it tightly with one hand to press the button.
So I know this may seem petty, but I'm really hoping you guys can convince me one way or another. Sure, this phone will always be faster than my GNex, but a GNex is half the price, and for me, in many ways feels like a better phone.
Thanks
Another thing I've notice, the screen can't figure out if it wants to be dim or bright. It'll sit there and go from one extreme to the other over a minutes time. Never in the middle.
Is it sounding like I have a defective unit?
I also had a Nexus Prime and I would of kept it if it had an sd card slot and WAY better camera & that's where the S3 comes in. Sure it has bloat and touchwiz isn't the best but AOSP is on its way & with it, improvements. As for build quality, I like it better than the nexus. Signal wise I was have at least 3 bars so I'm happy. I do agree though that the unit gets quite hot sometimes, but overall I love this device
Higher the processor speed the hotter it runs. You could limit the processor speed but you lose the blazing speed.. but I also lose the blazing heat. LOL.
As for the build quality its not bad. It doesn't feel like it'll break when I try to bend the unit. The gorilla glass is pretty strong but its not shatter proof. Don't drop it! Already seen a few shattered screens.
The software issues are just that.. all just software which is easy to change either by using replacement programs like handcent SMS or rooting then replacing the rom or disabling and removing the bloat. All that should matter is the hardware and if you're happy with the performance, look, feel, battery life, and reception.

You nailed it, the camera and the MicroSD slot are the two most compelling things about this phone for me.

I've never had issues with scratches on my Gorilla glass, even on my tablet which gets abused in the shop while I'm working on things. Then again, my HD2 never got a scratch either.

Yes handcent fixes that screen on issue if you disable popup notifications. That's the kind of notification that shows a dialog box with a quick reply option.
If disabled then the screen doesn't turn on and the SMS stays in the notification area.
Infact you can enable the pop-up notification but choose to disable screen on for pop-ups. That works too.

Another thing I've notice, the screen can't figure out if it wants to be dim or bright. It'll sit there and go from one extreme to the other over a minutes time. Never in the middle.
Is it sounding like I have a defective unit?

Are you sure you don't have the eye/face detection turned on? My screen does that at work (I have mine set on) and even though I'm not directly stairing at it, it picks up my eyes (I have my phone placed below my monitor). Sometimes it bugs me enough just to turn the thing face down.
or maybe it can be the autolight sensor.
:shrug
There's a setting in gosms to turn off the "screen turning on with an sms" option
My major concern is with the home button. What on earth were they thinking?
I'm a firm believer that AOSP on this phone will make it a true winner with the on-screen navigation buttons enabled and the capacitive and physical ones disabled. Maybe we could repurpose the big ol physical one to do something else in the future.

I'll download that one and give it a whirl.

Yeah, I turned off a lot of the gesture/motion things right out of the box, as some just didn't seem natural at all. I could never get the whole unlocking motion one to work either. That was annoying for a bit.

I'll check again, but I'm not finding it.

The sad thing is, as much as I'd love to have on screen buttons like the Gnex, then we're stuck with that long chin being nonfunctional. I guess it wouldn't be bad if the back and menu button never lit up and were completely disabled. Possible use the home button as a shutter button then? Who knows.
It really does blow my mind how they did a physical button for the home button of all things.
I enjoyed a physical home button on my previous phones. To each his/her own?

I loved the ones on the HD2. However, they weren't as difficult to press, and the phone was a lot heavier. It made it so when you pushed them, the phone didn't want to flip out of your hand. The SGS3 is so smooth and lightweight, I don't even try to hit the home button one handed anymore.

Although I have a trackpad on the g2 I use it to turn the phone on so I love the home button on the s3 since a lot of times I leave the phone on the desk or table during lectures and stuff and its just convenient to turn the phone on that way but like some said its hard to press without fearing of it falling out of ur hand due to the large size and thinness

My home button is very easy to press and it never feels like it'll fall out of my hand while holding it with only one.

Maybe you have smaller thumbs? For me, I have a big wide thumb, and I have to press with enough force to make my thumb "go into the recessed" area to completely depress the button.
