My 3vo seems to be having some location problems. Half the time the GPS knows where I am in Fort Worth, TX. The other half of the time, it thinks I'm in Garland, TX, which is 40 miles away. Really a hassle with location aware apps. Anyone else having this issue?

Try using GPS status from the market to reset and redownload the GPS ephemeris data. I'm thinking that should work.
Well, that tends to work, but I have to use it a lot. It just keeps changing my location to Garland. I'm considering exchanging the phone because of this, thinking maybe I have a bum GPS chip or something. If I go into Maps, it always finds me, but it's just location-aware apps that do it. Driving me crazy, actually.
I'm salt lake city, Utah. It does the same to me. It tells me salt lake and other times it tells me Logan which is not close to salt lake

Is anyone having a problem with google nav? Telenav gps works fine but when i try to use google navigation it will never acquire satellites. I left it on for a couple of minutes with the same acquiring satellites message on the bottom.
Just tried it, picked up satellites right away and worked fine.
I have no problem..i got lock in right away..

Finally got it to work by turning off location service by wifi or cell tower but it took around 6 minutes to get gps. i wonder if living by the ocean has an effect on it. Plus its very cloudy here.
Any body from Jackson Michigan thats getting good 3g speeds? I'm asking because everywhere I go my data sucks and I was wondering if it was the area or my phone? Im only getting 75kbps and lower.
Sprint simply has ****ty 3G. For me it ranges between 100kbps and 500kbps. If I'm on a freeway next to a tower at non-peak I get 700kbps-900kbps. But thats because I live in a densely populated place so there are many many towers. It's not your phone. It's sprint..\
I just ran a speed test on 3G just south of Lansing and got 1436kb down and over 300kb up.

I don't know anything about Jackson, Michigan, but there is something VERY wrong if you're only getting 75kbps.... My first guess is that your location data is screwy, and the network is having a hard time 'locating' your phone... Open a locating app (like Google Maps) and see if your phone's location is EXACT... If it's not, then:
First, make sure your compass is calibrated: (easiest way is to download Compass app from the market for free.)
Second, clear the location data using the ##3282 (or whatever the code is-there's a bunch of threads on how to do this)... AND wiping data from Google Maps under settings/applications/manageapplications/allapplications AND in Titanium if you use it.
Third, update your profile and your PRL with Sprint.
If all that doesn't help, I'd take the phone back, if I were you. 75kbps = basically an unusable device, IMHO.
Good luck.. Let us know how it works out for you.
EDIT: UNLESS YOU LIVE RIGHT NEXT TO A TOWER???
If that's the case, no amount of 'tinkering' is gonna help you.. You'd have to switch carriers if you wanted a reliable data speed at home.

Was actually just in Jackson Michigan, was at Prime Cuts. I was testing some Sweet Little Paws Cheesecake there because I'm most likely doing cheesecake for my wedding cake. Regardless though, I was hitting pretty decent speeds. I'd say a good 500kbps-900kbps. Just a little less that what I am used to, 1000+kbps.
I live in Jackson and yes the 3g speed sucks. Have you tried changing the CDMA to Automatic using EPST? It helped mine dramatically.
Sucks in Detroit too. I remember when I first got my Evo 4g on launch day I got 2200k down downtown on a Sunday morning. I watched speeds drop to almost nothing, now if I get 200k down on a Sunday morning it's a miracle.
The first thing i tries was switching my EPST to automatic. Seems it mad it worst before doing that i was only getting 125kbps. I called sprint multiple times and they had me update PRL and network, I even did the hands free activation again. Im thinking its just my phone. Im just trying to a least be able to get 600kbps-1.4mbps what sprint says the average 3g speeds are. I have a friend with att (iphone 4) and where ever we're at he's getting 2-3mbps. smh And i cant even get 100kbps on a good day. I love sprint been with them for years they just gotta get this data speed up, I use my phone for internet a lot.
There is something severely wrong in se lower michigan with the speeds for 3g. Its not bad in one spot.. It's bad everywhere. I update my prl and it's been ****. I barely get no bars and it struggles to load pages and kills my battery quick. I'm thinking of calling sprint cause I hear it's been a problem in the southeast lower michigan area.

Just wondering if anyone has tethered to a pc, ran a speedtest, and it shows you in another state?
I'm in San Francisco,CA and it's saying I'm in Wichita, KS...
?
Im running the latest Clean Rom if that matters, and only google gps is on
Happens to me all the time too, I never get decent speedtest locations because of it, I'm guessing it's a 4G connection thing.
The fix I have to do to get a test from close to me is connect to a wifi source, let it find that location, then stay in the speed test app and turn wifi on back to 4G and keep it on the location wifi found.
I believe if you turn on the GPS and let it get a lock it will update to your nearest server. Whats up in Wichita? I seem to travel there all the time
Edit: Re-read OP. Not sure what you mean by "google" GPS but I was talking about insuring that the actual GPS receiver is activated. And, BTW, your boys better win those 3 games they have "in-hand".
are you sure you are not in Wichita,KS? ARE YOU!?!
Thanks everybody, nothing wrong with Kansas, kinda a Jayhawk fan.. Il mess around with gps locks and whatnot, just wanted to see if I was the only one

lol, yeah, if they don't make the playoffs, they will be ripped apart and traded away... I dont mind either way
Location finding can take several routes...
via provider towers: this is the one that generally has you in your neighborhood, or part of town, but never the right street.
via gps: dead on.
via wifi: usually dead on if your routers mac address has been sniffed/mapped out by those google cars and other 3rd parties that pick up signals all over town and pinpoint their locations.
via ip: generally pretty good in getting your region, but if the ip isn't in the big database in the cloud accurately it'll just say 'USA' and puts you in Wichita, KS because that's pretty close to dead center of the US
I use the phone's GPS and I still get stuck out in Lexington, KY, or Wichita, so I do the fix I did on he first page and it fixes it.
Damn thing is showing a town that's 200 miles away when I'm at my house its set to change based on location. I go to my friends house and it gets the right town. Vzw and google services are both turned on. GPS and wifi off. Any ideas what's causing this I'm located close to several towns so it randomly chooses between those but never 200miles even refreshed the widget a few times. At my friends house now and its picking up the town on in.

mine never updates my location with GPS on or not. The weather will update fine just not the location.

Are you using a signal booster? When I had Sprint I was using their airrave which used my high speed internet to somehow boost the cell signal, and my weather locations were from across the state...now with Verizon my locations have always been accurate. I have gps and Google location both turned on too.

So i got lost last night in the middle of no where down in south jersey, of all places. Wound up in an area without tmobile access and I was trying to find my way back home. Go to my trusty GOOGLE MAPS which has always worked above and beyond compared to my garmin or magellan GPS. Type in the address to get back home to plot the route, and wala! "No network connection available, try again later". What an absolutely amazing load of crap this is. I come to find out that google maps no longer supports offline use.... now im told that you can cache small areas of the map in your phone but what the hell good is that if i somehow find myself in an area i havent cached? Really google?
Has anyone come up with a viable alternative to google maps?
copilot offers offline maps.

It looks good but its only a 14 day free trial, then you have to buy it to get turn by turn navigation.

You must've been in SOME boonie area. I know South Jersey at least has EDGE. Knowing from experience, I got lost in around the same area at night. My MyTouch 4G had a strong EDGE signal. Hopefully you don't go through that again. It sucks being lost, especially in a part that barely anyone travels to. Have you tried Mapquest?

If you don't have a data signal, GPS is useless. Google Maps doesn't have pre-stored maps. The only functional offline mode it has is with predetermined grids that you set up when you have a connection. Do you have a pre paid plan? Post paid plan could have been helpful here since it allows roaming and there could have been another network in the area. Either way a regular GPS or a plain old map still should probably be in your as a backup
