I have seen some people saying HTC is still considering their policy on their bootloaders even after they announced they will unlock it. Motorola is pushing out unlocked bootloaders as we speak.
If we do not keep pressuring HTC to release this update it will get put off for a long time... Let's keep the fire lit under them by continuing to post on their facebook page http://www.facebook.com/HTC
Also remember to keep this petition alive: http://www.groubal.com/htc-bootloaders-and-nand/
I know they have already promised this to us, but we need to make sure they are going to follow up on it instead of just telling us what we want to hear to shut us up. Remember to please be professional and mature when voicing your opinion. Let's keep the attention drawn to this issue before it gets moved to the back burner. Their facebook is a great way to maintain awareness about this. Viva la resistance!

Some people have said they have received this email from HTC, they posted it on HTC's facebook page.
This is What an HTC Representative emailed me :
I understand that you are wondering when the Sensation will have its boot loader unlocked. We’re pleased to announce that we have heard everyone’s comments and constructive suggestions and have decided to go forward with this initiative. We currently don’t have information regarding which existing phones will be unlocked, though as it was part of the initial outcry it seems likely (I don’t have any solid information I can confirm because the policy is still being somewhat reviewed internally. Keep an eye on our official website and official social media outlets for announcements about which phones will be bootloader unlocked and when.
Just stay out of the dev section bugging them when will it be rooted, I think its very rude and not helping the cause at all.
Thought more people would care about this...
I just posted on their wall. Everyone do the same

I'm not buying this phone until S-off has been achieved. A fast phone with no root isn't an upgrade from a CM7'd Evo.

Stupid HTC! I want my mind to be free. Hate having to worry about the BOOTLOADERS.
Looks like HTC is now saying they never said they would unlock the EVO 3D, they said they would unlock FUTURE devices... Several people got that email in the S-Off thread in the dev section.

Think that statement if true is B.S. When HTC made that announcement to not lock the bootloaders, the EVO 3D was a future phone. And I would almost say false information to deceive us into buying it with the belief that the bootloader would be unlocked by HTC.
Well this is troubling. I wont bother picking up the 3d until it's unlocked. I love my free hot spot too much to give it up

Using the hotspot is a big reason it is not unlocked. The carriers want more of your money. Speed and battery life need to be the reasons.

While this is bad news for us, how many people are actually going to be able to sit back and not run to the store to purchase this phone the day it is released.
If enough people had the will power to stay away maybe it would send a message to HTC, but I don't think we have that kind of will power. To add to that, I believe the EVO and now the EVO 3d sell extrememly well to people who have no idea what rooting even means and just enjoy the phone for what it is.
I still think we are in the minority when it comes to these things.....So the sales numbers will let HTC know if this has any effect on it but I say the EVO 3d still sells strong.
Won't be for long lol someone will get in and do all sorts of good.

Meh, I've noticed recently that stock seems to perform better than most/all custom ROMs anyway. Perhaps this way I'll spend less time messing around with my phone... As long as I can get partial root to remove bloatware I'll be fine and I'm confident this wont be an issue.
On another note, I think this statement is BS: "It seems HTC has finally caved to what are likely the security demands of wireless carriers with its newest phones, and is locking down its handsets Moto-style..."
It has yet to be confirmed that bootloaders are being locked at the request of carriers. The argument against tethering is invalid because full root is not required to run root access wireless tethering apps. I think this is solely the decision of manufacturers- why they are making this decision, I don't know...

I am still getting this device day one. If I decide I can't live without full root then I'll return it and wait for something else. Can't lose with Sprint's 30 day satisfaction guarantee.

I agree 100%, but this doesn't change the fact that htc is telling an entire committed of supportive (and vocal) customers to go stick it unnecessarily. While they don't care if they lose my business, I am disappointed in them and will likely end up going with another manufacturer.

If its anything like the droids - you'll eventual have root if theres a exploit but full custom kernels are thrown out the window, so are full custom roms. All you'll have is minor superficial modifications to the official ROM. That means that you'll only taste a new version of Android if HTC/Sprint officially releases it for the 3D. That also means no CM, no MIUI, no ported ROMs.

Do you guys really think HTC is going to be that dumb? They know it was the EVo 3D that was the concern. Theres no release yet so you can expect a slight push back in the release now to probably unlock them now. If not they will give the information needed. If they tricked us with that statement, they know people would be even more pissed and HTC's future would be worse than Motorola's.
People need to give them some credit and not be such douche bags. They agreed to our request so for everyone thats thinking they are just fooling us, I'm sorry but you are only sounding like a needy, greedy, ungrateful, arrogant prick.

Not just HTC, but the device itself. If more people own the E3D there will be a higher demand for more developers to make 3D content (movies, games, and so forth), as well as a higher demand for 3D devices in the future (Next gen. EVO with quadcore processor, 3D once again, more RAM, ROM and so forth ).

Problem with that is HTC already made a promise that it would be unlocked. You never know if they'll renege on that, if they only partially unlock it (e.g. they allow root but don't disable the partition signature check, which wouldn't advance us anymore than we currently are) or something to that effect.
Furthermore, there are no guarantees that it'll ever be unlocked. Will it be? Probably, but again, no guarantees.
If somebody wants to return it because any of the above...why not? This is exactly the kind of thing that the 30 day return policy was intended for.

I dont agree ... now everyone can have your own opinion but this is a very expensive purchase for alot of people and they may have been on the fence until they heard the CEO of HTC say hey we are going to unlock bootloaders.
Alot of us think of a unlocked bootloader as a Feature (just like a good camera) and a BIG feature at that. If you bought a video game because they said we are sorry that the Online playing feature is locked but we will give it to you in an update would you just let the company go back on its word?

Why dont you feel this is what the 30 day return period is for? Isnt the idea of it is if there is any aspect of the phone you dont like in the first 30 days you can return it? Having a locked bootloader is something that people may not like and alot of us ordered first day it was available so no one knew 100% that the bootloader would be locked since some people recieved CEO response saying it would be unlocked.
I paid cash for this phone so you had better believe if I can't do what I want with it then I'll return it. Besides Galaxy S II absolutely destroys the EVO3D. So Id probably switch to a Nexus S while I wait for the Galaxy S II. HTC is my preferred phone but if it is locked, hello Samsung!

HTC has 13 more days and then this phone goes back. I'm not going to sit on a phone and hope it gets rooted. People need to show HTC that we meant what we said about returning the devices for not unlocking it. Also based on what I see on Facebook its going to be more than "50" people. I don't base my actions on hope. If I did I would play the lottery everyday, just stay home and lounge around on the couch.
I have had 4 samsungs and all were crap! Samsung will not support a phone and will not.stand behind what they sell. My only concern with the.evo3d is we will not have any devs after the 30 days. I want to keep this phone and i still remember the hopla over the epic and it was a let down. I also think that we have 1 person that got the 3evo with s-off. Thats a nice sounding statement but the EVO 4G did not have an encrypted bootloader when it shipped. They are not the same.
Those of you who are counting down the 30 day timeframe that you gave HTC to unlock this phone, one question: Why did you buy the phone on release day instead of waiting to see when HTC finally unlocks it?
I love the 3vo even without root although I desperately want root.
When I got mine, bb offered their future proof promotion for half off. Basically they will give the cost if the phone towards getting a new one. This wont hurt htcs sales but allows me to get sgs2 when it comes out.
Though its a long shot at this point, if sgs2 gets permaroot before 3vo ill be getting the former. My first choice is still 3vo tho. Those iphone friends of mine actually envy the 3d cam
Like nate said, we need devs, themers and the trolls to stay. Especially the trolls lol. For the people that still go you can help the cause by posting on fb, tweeting and blogging about your exchange

I finally made the switch (from 3d to Samsung S3) and loving the easy unlock. I found myself wondering though how the HTC folks were holding up with the LTE? Are you all fully unlocked? Or is it a psuedo unlock like they did on the 3D (hboot 1.5)
I believe if you have the original hboot, you're fully unlocked (not as free as s-off, but good enough to do almost anything most users do). I have read that the new hboot that came with the OTA has limited your abilities in terms of flashing things when you HTCdev unlock the phone. That new hboot may be comparable to the one you speak of on the 3D. I can't accurately say, since I never owned one.

+1 on this and i havent heard of anything like that with the new hboot from what i know (which isnt much lol) you still have all capabilities as you did prior to ota with the htcdev unlock which was pretty much the same as s-off and nothing like the nightmare of 1.5 on the 3d although i was lucky enough to not get that but no a few unfortunates who did my wife included lol

I honestly think that the best way to make HTC listen to its customers is to leave them completely and send the message that we won't come back until they make them as unlockable as the Samsung's. We don't have to worry about the hboot s-on/off concerns in the Samsung world.

Most users arent rooters, and HTC would probably not even notice the drop in sales.
End result=no change
I'll take my HTC build quality with S-OFF

Well they haven't really had a good year income wise, not saying it has to do with people "boycotting" them but they can't afford to lose more customers. If Samsung is this open with their phones, that's competition and HTC better step up.
Also their attitude needs to change "multitasking is working as intended" in regards to the One X customers asking for a fix. It's obviously broken and it needs to be fixed. Don't play it as a feature and if they really intended into kill apps like they, don't call it multitasking.
