[Q] HTC Evo 3D Powers off by itself - HTC EVO 3D

I received my Evo 3d on Tuesday and that day I was not able to play with it too much. On Wednesday I notice that after existing the spiderman game the screen went crazy. I had a duplicate of the icons on top and one of them was moving. Then the phone turned off by itself. I tried the power button but that did not help so I had to take the battery out for it to work. So for the past two days my phone would either freeze or freeze and power off. I had to take the battery out each time. I tried 2 factory resets and after calling in this morning a hard reset was done which the reps told me this sort of reset was better than a factory reset from the menu. So just a few minutes ago it froze again after I finished a call. It shut off and again had to take battery out in order to turn it back on. It had already been notated on my account that factory and hard resets were done so they agreed the phone was defective and they placed an order for a new device to be shipped out. Has anyone else had similar issues?

Is a HTC phone!

HELP - Bootloop

Alright, so this phone is becoming extremely frustrating.
The very first day i got the rezound I had it for literally five hours right from the store and I figured i would restart it to freshen things up after messing around with setting up my home screens.
Upon my phone turning back on, it booted up to the lockscreen... froze... turned itself on and then restarted itself and it LOOPS... it does NOT get past this point it bootloops the process
So I pulled the battery a few times, then did a factory reset in hboot and the problem fixed itself, so I gave it the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe it was just a fluke so i reset everything back up... now three days later... I restarted the phone... upon turning it back on... SAME THING... BOOTLOOPING for no reason
I have never tried to temp root my phone or do anything whatsoever. This is a 100% legit phone but its becoming extremely annoying. Im returning this thing to VZW tonight and exchanging it for another one but im torn between exchanging it for a different rezound or just straight up returning it and waiting for the nexus december 8th to come out.
There have been ALOT of reported problems with this phone from my bootlooping... dead pixels... horrible battery life... etc
Dont reboot it anymore. There is an app in the market called fast reboot.when you need to freshen the phone just push the icon and it wiill get all the free memory in about 10-15 seconds.

im supose to be locked into a phone for the next 2 years that i cant reboot because it bootloops?
I have seen several people with boot-looping issues.
I'm not one of them and I don't think it is rampant with this phone. As for dead pixels and horrible battery life - those issues are even fewer and far between.
I wouldn't say there have been ALOT; probably a normal percentage of definite defective units mixed with people being unfamiliar with "how things work" on a phone like this.
..... my $.02
yeah im returning it at VZW tonight for a new unit... if the second one has any issues at all that have been described on this forum so sorry i gave them two chances... returning and waiting for nexus
You also gotta realize your hearing about a ton of issues with the phone, because only people with issues are posting about it. The other 90% that dont have issues arent posting.
Anytime a new phone comes out about 10% of them are duds with the same problems you are describing. When the nexus comes out their forum will be full of threads about problems with that phone. Read thru the android forums and no matter what the phone, you will see complaints about the phone. i have been reading them for years.

I had the phone for about 7 hours three have been fighting loops. My temporary solution is to disable LTE and put my standard size battery in the device ? I don't know why, but I have a hunch that my specific device may be verry sensitive to heat issues.
I called Verizon and they show the boot cycling a known issue and that it was submitted to HTC.
The phone does not seem overly hot to Me so my hunch could be wrong

Well my first Rez was a dud. It got as hot as 130F at one point! Returned it, now this second one will boot to a certain point then bootlop!! My evo never did this ****!!

Ok here's what I did. I shut down, removed the 4G sim and rebooted. It fully booted with no cell service of course. I went into the LTE switch and set it to CDMA auto. I shut down, re-inserted sim, booted up and it's working. Not sure if all that was necessary, but that's what I did...

Ok phone getting better but loops still persist.I am giving up and getting a replacement in the am. BTW. THE tmo vibrant with stock headsets and voodoo sound 10 blows the beats gimmicks away.

Bootloops = Heat
In my experience, Bootloops are a result of heat. The phone heats up (or the radio heats up), the phone reboots on the thermal warning, but the bootup time is not nearly long enough to cool down a phone that hot, so once the OS (or kernel) loads to the point where it starts checking for thermals, it sees a heat issue, and reboots.
I have this on my DInc which I was hoping to replace with a Rezound because of these bootloops, but of course I am going to have sit and see if this subsides (or what the Nexus people say) because ...
... you are right, you do NOT want a phone for 2 years which bootloops when you use it for 15 minutes. It is hell.
What is causing all the heat on your phone ??

I asked and called Verizon again. I found someone with a little more info.
it seems that an above average amount of devices where sent out with a corrupted OS.
The corrupt Rom is having issues with its signal acquisition and causing issues.
its heating up from consistently trying to cycle thru signal acquisition etc etc.
I kinda believe they have nailed the issue- as we booted up the device with no back cover on,and bam!- a perfect phone that functions without the reboots ( Obviously no signal),but it works.
I have a replacement coming Tuesday.
Hmmm i think mine has something like that. BUT i dont do it so much.
Had the same issue with mine last night. Removed Sim disabled all network services and replaced Sim and it worked when I enabled networks again. Mine has been set to cdma only also. I think it might be an issue when authenticating with Verizon that somehow crashes the phone.

Let's hope that is the problem since I haven't had it and would hate to see it be a hardware problem. That is something that can be fixed with an update. I think phones are getting to thin for their own good. Cases problem don't help either.
For what it is worth, my phone is charging, streaming music, and I'm on the internet with auto brightness on. The temp is reading 100F. When I first got it, I was trying to kill the battery so I streamed Netflix over 4g and it got warm but never rebooted. Hope they figure this out for y'all.

I got stuck bootlooping related to the fb chat widget. As soon as it would load, sense would restart and after 10-20 the phone started rebooting.
Non stop. I got it to boot with battery cover off (no reception).
Cover on, it would restart as soon as the lock screen was up.
Battery pull, no help.
So I did a battery pull, guessed volume down +power and choose factory reset.
No fb chat widget and no issues so far

struggling radio = heat = reboot = still hot = reboot ...
Same as I currently have on my incredible.
They may be able to do something in software, but it is really hardware. the radio struggling to get a signal is not a software issue.

Problem...

Maybe this problem was posted before, but I couldnt find one. To put it simply my Prime turned off abruptly and now wont respond at all, screen off, no sound, vibrations, nothing.
What had happened was when I invited a friend of mine to a game of 'Words with friends' on the Prime, the screen simply shut off and thats it.
The back story
From 7:20 am to around 5:45 pm today it was not touched.
From 5:45 to when the incident happened, I used mostly Dolphin browser, and some THD (game)
The minute before the 'crash' i was on the market ( called market when I was on it). On the MARKET I had started to download 'Words With friends', the download was interrupted by the change from 'Android Market" to "Google Play".
I continued my download after, opened the app, invited my friend, the second I clicked send, poof, crash.
End points
I am NOT ROOTED
I have NEVER dropped the thing
Is there anything I can do to get it out of this bricked stage?
Ps. Is this kind of thing covered by Asus?
have you tried charging it?

Since you have never unlocked, or rooted, and the unit is still under warrenty, there should be no problem.
You sound like you've taken good care of it, so, the warrenty should take care of it.
I'd also try using the factory reset and see if that works....Never have done it, but instructions are available in one of the threads.
I'd factory reset it if I could , but it simply won't respond, and It crashed at around 70% ish battery,

So, charging it for a VERY long time did the trick . I really appreciate the quick response , I'm touched .

Just a thought but it sounds like the battery guage is not working right on your devices. They shut off for no reason, wouldn't start until charged. Like I said just a thought. Maybe someone else can confirm?

[Q] Randomly turning off while charging?

I just picked up a Sprint GSIII today (exchanged my EVO LTE in for it), and twice while doing the initial charge, I've gone to wake up the phone and it has been turned off. Has anyone experienced this before? I'm not quite sure what is going on.
I have the ATT version and I have never seen this. I have had mine about 2 weeks now. I would pull the back cover and reset the battery. If that doesn't work return it to the Sprint store for an exchange.
I have the sprint version and haven't had this happen yet. Might be a defect. I'm on my 3rd s3 due to yellow screen and none experienced what u have experienced

One of 3 things....
1. Bad battery (replace battery)
2. Bad charger/charing port (check your charger)
3. Bad software (factory reset your phone)
Those don't work then take it back

[Q] What made my phone go bonkers last night?

So I was chilling at a local restaurant and tried to use my phone by pressing the power button. Screen came on but it froze and than it began to reboot on its own. It kept transitioning between Sprint 4GLTE screen and HTC quietly brilliant screen back and forth. That went on for about two hours and I could feel my phone getting hotter and hotter. When I came home, I searched the XDA forum for similar issue and was able to factory reset my phone by pressing power + volume down button.
My phone has never been rooted, I don't know how to since it is my first android phone. I have apps, but I am very picky about what I download in my phone. So my question is, what happened? Is this a known issue that happens or is this a sign of something bad happening with my phone? It is working so far, since factory reset, but I am a little uneasy since it happened without any reason.
Probably just didn't agree with the food... Bada cshh..
Wouldn't worry too much, sometimes those things happen out of nowhere. If it keeps happening take it into get an exchange. Doesn't happen to me. I've had 3 EVO LTE's and no boot loops like that at all.
Had a slightly simular issue when I first got my phone and had it in a TPU case. Noticed that for whatever reason my power button would stick. After 5 months, I think the power button is nice and used so it doesn't have the tendency to stick nearly as much.
Not 100% this is your issue but this is what my experience was early on.

Phone keeps randomly shutting down.

It started happening a couple days ago, but I haven't installed anything new, but maybe a few apps may have autoupdated. Anyways last time it happened was about a minute ago so I figured I should probably try and figure out what's going on. I sat down and launched a game. As it was loading my phone shut off. I turned it back on and put a song on and loaded same game again. I started to play and then it shut off again. Earlier today I was listening to music and was started a different game and it shut off. I turned it back on and relaunched the same game while listening to music and it was fine for hours. Any idea what it could be? My battery is also well over 60% so it's not anything to do with low battery.
Thanks.
i recently have this problem, some say that was stock battery problem or the phone is bad reading the battery status and shutdow, i am from Nicaragua and here is hard to find a stock OEM battery so, i try do a fix permission in recovery and the problem was solved , but most users solved the problem by changing its battery
good luck
This problem has come back again and has been increasingly getting annoying. It will now shut off multiple times a day randomly. For example I'll check the time on my phone and it will shut off. I turn it back on and as soon as I unlock the screen it shuts off. After it does this a few times it will work. I would then open facebook or something and be scrolling down and it will just shut off again. I'm running default ics rooted and unlocked. Never had issues before and nothing has really been added. I've disabled a couple things such as advanced task killer and single cpu thing with the hopes that it would help, but it hasn't.
Any idea?
Thanks.
Bump. Anyone?
Welcome to the amaze. Mine started doing it again. Changing to non OEM battery helped for a while but it's back. I'll never touch a ****ing HTC phone again until the day I die and I've only ever used HTC.

Yeah I'm thinking the same. It is so annoying trying to send texts when it would shut down for no damn reason. I am hoping it's an app that is causing the phone to crash, but I haven't installed any recently. I got a new battery a couple months back but I wasn't having the problem then. This battery should be a few months old so I don't expect it to be the problem.
Love HTC. (even though I'm considering am s4 simply for a change of flavor) but HTC cannot make a good battery. They underestimate by a lot.
