Wait to Exchange or Do it Now? - HTC EVO 3D

Hey guys got the Evo 3D on Wednesday through the FTB. Noticed that I have a dead pixel, light leakage on the bottom like others have reported, and I also have an imperfection under my camera lens glass on the rear camera. The imperfection looks like dust or a bubble in the glass.
Should I wait to exchange or just go ahead and do it? I will have to have it shipped since I ordered online.

....... if you want to... do it.. if no... dont... did this need a thread?

I don't think you understand what I was getting at. I was asking to do it now or not because some had mentioned waiting til other hardware versions come out so the issues may be fixed.

you might be waiting a while, if they even make other hardware versions at all.

Do some reading, light leakage and dead pixels seem to be fairly common.

mines fine. as are thousands of others who arent posting about it

I haven't noticed any issues with mine either.
If I had an issue that needed to be traded in, I would wait, unless it was a significant annoyance.

as long as its not anal leakage i think your good bro... jk
i dont notice any of these on mine or maybe i dont look so hard into it.

Version 02 - Display is crooked

It seems that HTC has done it again... I know the possibility for defects are possible when mass producing anything, but my new EVO 3D display is crooked. Though it may be slight, once it is noticed you can't stop seeing it every time you use the phone. Went to Sprint corp store and with much hesitation from the manager, I was able to get them to exchange the phone. The only bad thing is, my new phone also has a slight lean to it (though better than the previous.) Really disappointed with HTC
Yup didnt notice it for weeks then one day i noticed it and i was like wow!
Sent from my Dual Core HTC 3vo 3d
Dang. I was just hoping it was me...
I think I got it to but its very slight scared to return and be even more messed up Idk what's wrong with the people who make the screen for the EVO

Maybe it was designed like that for better viewing 3d angles
Is the version 3 the same thing?
Dunno what u guys are talkin about mine is 02 hardware no crooked ness to it.

Well, I'm happy to say that I'm on my 2nd E3D and I've got yet another perfect unit. Thank god.

Mine is slightly crooked. I took it to best buy for the exchange and the replacement had a less crooked screen and a dead pixel. I kpt my original phone and don't even notice it Amy mote.

The fact that the NS4G (despite having an equal-or-better meter) dropped and bounced even more calls....which sucks, cuz that screen and camera are awesome...even though it feels cheap. It was fast...mega fast for a 1single core...roms a plenty...AOSP to the core...everything I wanted except a god damned signal.
It's nice to have a weighty phone in my pocket again...reminds me that I have a phone in my pocket at all times, lol.
It's good to be back. Lessons learned, etc etc etc. Plus that puts me that much closer to unlock day....and I'll probably trade this up ($350 trade in value) for an Nprime when it comes out--unless Samsung manages to bungle yet another radio.
I have version 0002 and my screen is fine. Man, I keep reading about all the problems you guys have and I think I understand what is happening. When you guys order your phones or go into a store to get one, they run a retinal scan on you to identify you as an XDA user and then get your phones from the reject bin or something.
I mean statistically speaking, there is no fricken way so many of you could have so many problems. It would mean like 1 out of 3 phones are defective or something.

LOL!
I have a version 2 hardware phone and the screen is perfect.
Between myself and my friend, we have four Evo 3D's, all 0002 hardware and all four have the crooked screen. The worst part about the crooked screen is that it throws off the touch, especially toward the bottom edge of the screen. When you touch a part of the screen, the touch point is actually off just a little because the digitizer where you touch is straight but the LCD underneath is a little off.
From what I've seen, only 20% to 30% (at most) of the 0002 units have a straight screen. The majority are crooked.
Mike
****, I got it. I never noticed it before. I wish I never started reading this thread. Probably would of never of seen it. Maybe its in my head. But it does look like its kind of tilted to the right in portrait position. Is that what yall have?

And i am extremely happy.. Im telling you if you have any hardware issues at ALLLLL replace asap. its free so why not! Like my screen was all messed up in games n stuff, that problem is gone, my colors on my screen are more vibrant!!!!! Like idk, prob got a diff screen manufacturer but everything (vids games n pics) does not look washed out at allll anymore. I love my phone! Hmmm what else...battery cover seems tighter fit and thats about it. Just thought you guys should know that if your screen looks faded (netflix is a perfect example to tell when you launch it the red is supposed to look reallllllly red-not faded red) you should def replace akghsakl

wait so are you saying that the amaze has a good display now? like how the mt4g and the sensation had two different displays? where when you view from the side angles the blacks stay black? please confirm!
And what in the world do you mean by free? I had hardware issues the first week and tmobile told me that because it wasn't broken they wouldn't replace it.
@branso yes that problems been fixed, my amaze fits very tight right now.
@teo yes the amaze has 2 displays, I can view from all angles and the colors are way better and do not fade while turning the screen
@Craig its free bro under one year warranty that comes with every phone. They have to replace it. Call again say that your screen flickers a lot or something n that you want a replacement but UNROOT!

if you broke the screen they wont replace it, if you dropped it in water they wont replace it, etc. if it is a defect issue NOT cause by youthey will replace it for free! ive done it on my hd7 and almost on my mytouch 4g. Im on prepaid. you might have to make it seem like the problem is worse than it really is and tell them it isnt usable.
Also, I think this is funny and messed up at the same time. they have been using different screen since the desire, incredible, etc. making AMOLED and some SLCD then stop making AMOLED then producing 2 different kinds of SLCD for phones is freaking retarded. they should stick to Sony or something. my sensation had a amazing screen, didnt bother checking which one it was though. my mytouch 4g had a horrible washed out screen and decided not to bother replacing it and just get the HD7 and my HD7 had dead pixels and the digitizer was messed up just like on my sensation. Hopefully when i get an Amaze it wont have any of these issues. It seems there is always a issue with HTCs screens, i wonder if they ever browsed through XDA before lol.. they should glue their digitizer PROPERLY to the LCD so no dust gets through, or screen bleed, etc. or just go with LED since they are mostly stuck to the digitizer. my brother incredible has an amazing screen with no issues, its an AMOLED.
Well I have a problem with games being unplayable because the touch screen keeps freaking out when I start playing. Was that the problem you had and by returning it your got it fixed?

AUO here, not liking the video quality in Netflix and the text blurring when scrolling. would be curious if the Amaze is built with anything but the AUO, would like the Sharp screen as they tend to have better quality at the expense of viewing angle.

no, they will not. it voids the warrenty. you will have to relock it and unroot it, in other words restore it completely stock. also, never mention you have had it rooted. they wil not replace it, with my experiances that is.

Wll in that case then even if u relock it ur still screwed because it go into the bootloader it says "re-locked" . I was just curious if anyone had tried because i thought htc had stated that it "may" void your warranty. But even then we all know that means its voided haha

Well they may look for it, if they've been told to. And they have this whole "unlocking ur bootloader and possibly voiding ur warranty" set up for a reason, and the only 1 i can think of is to get more money from us for repairs by making themselves no longer liable to honoring a warranty. Just got my S3 and i need help! ALREADY! :(

i just got my S3 and i m so worried and so sad people!
i got the pebble blue s3. i have issues with my screen. i ran the screen test and found the same dark spots on my screen when screen is black. there are lots of them. i dont have nice camera to take pic of those dots. they are really annoying because i surf the internet a lot and these dots are very visible specially in the dark!
the other issue is something with the viewing angle. when i hold the device right next to my eyes (as we all do most of the times) the screen seems to be more yellowish and the colors seem to be alot washed away! but when i change the viewing angle like just a little, i mean when i tilt the device just a little the colors get normal the way they should be!
the next thing is the pink tint. in the browser the white pages are EXTREMELY PINK! yes EXTREMELY PINK! that happens at the automatic brightness!
when viewing the black color on the sceen, when the capacitive touch buttons are on the light of the menu button seems to leave its light on the screen. and the blacks are NOT AT ALL BLACK!!!
people i am so tensed and worried! can someone help me out of these problems? i have read that the white S3 does not have any of this problem is it true? i have also read that the dark spots are because of the glu used and those would go away with time, but i dont believe in that! should i send the device to claim warranty and get it repaired? pls pls pls some one help me! i have spent all my money i had saved for the past 4 months for this set and i even sold my Galaxy Note for this! i am so much tensed! pls help me guys!

You got a defective unit it happens. So send it back or get it repaired / exchanged. You spent a lot of money you should get a product that works as intended without defects. The sooner the better you'll be much happier. Best advice I can give you. All without the need to jumping off a bridge or if you do hope that you that you land on kyan to break your fall.

The block splotches are absolutely not indicative of a bad display.
They are present on virtually every OLED screen, ranging from the Nexus One's, to the PlayStation Vita's, to the Samsung Galaxy S3's.
I can't speak for your other issues, but people need to understand the splotches are common on pretty much any OLED. Some can see them easily, some seem to be unable to, but it does not mean the panel is defective.
Why are you on here? I see you just joined the site recently. How about you learn to be polite and if you can't, then leave.

I use an app called dead pixel test, and it allows you to cycle through several different solid coloured screns, like all white, all black, red blue etc. No probelms with my screen, but I have a screen protector on it now.
Does yours have a screen protector that could be affecting it? Otherwise just return it as faulty.
I also have the pebble blue and screen is amazing. No issues here. Did notice the marks on a completely black screen in a dark room once but it hasn't showed since. Didn't really bother me.

Sounds like your proximity sensor is covered up or not working. Do you have a screen protector or anything on the phone which might interfere with it? If so maybe remove it and retry. Also I'm sure you could find an app that would check it.

The Software is buggy and LG is not doing anything about it . I tweeted to them so many times and i thought HTC was bad.. they were amazing .. my first and last LG device .. however i am just confirming its not always proximity sensor issue .. Its the buggy software implementation.
i quite agree with you.... any idea when we get 6.0 ?
Would it be software? If we all have the same phone with the same software then we would all have the same problem, but we don't?
It's a software bug... Rebooting the phone fixed the problem, but then it starts acting the same way after few calls.
Sent from my LG-H961N using Tapatalk
You could try( if you haven't already), wiping your sensors. They sometimes get dirty & don't work properly.
I have same issue and have no protectors or covers or nothing just the stock phone. I think it's got to be some stupid software issue and it is very irritating. Went from one ridiculous phone into another headache...

Drama much? The phone has been out for barely more than a month... and not every phone is having this issue.
Process: Collect as many bug reports as possible, recreate and fix issues, release a patch.
LG is not going to release a patch just for your particular problem because you tweeted really hard.

Well people value their money and thats why when they feel they have inferior product the will complain. Like micro scratches on the screen, bleed on second screen, back peeling off .. and if you dont have this issue does not mean these issues dont matter and it also means serious quality control issues at LG. You for one needs to get over yourself and respect other people's problems, i have none of the above problems except the software bugs, i still feel compassionate towards fellow community members who might have recieved inferior quality devices. I clearly understand your personality type, "I dont care if the whole world goes to hell if i dont have a problem i am good." You should try to be less selfish and i am sure i am not the first one in your life to call you selfish. Think about why those people think you are selfish.

Weird light bleed

Anyone else have this issue.
The light is above the left capacitive button.
I've just had the device delivered, so is this a defective unit or are they all like this?
Thanks in advance

Is this a common problem or is it rare?
I'm asking because if it is a common problem, then I will get a refund and get something else.
Mine doesnt have this...this happens on all devices, just not good quality control, so wouldnt know how many are affected, luckily mine came perfect

Guess I'll have to get something else then. Now to contact the supplier and go from there.
BTW is it possible to check if the item is new or refurbished?
Rn3 is definetely new, its not old device...
It would be pretty hard to port MIUI on some other chipset

I don't think I made my self clear.
Do you think the item I received was a returned item, refurbished by the seller and then sold to me? If it was, is it possible to check? It looks like brand new to me.
I dont have the bleeding issue. I think the device got faulty screen and you might want to send to warranty for screen fix.
China phone is always like that either you received good phone or defect phone. There is no quality control in China company.

Thanks. I've contacted the seller, and I'll see what happens.
Though it looks like I'll be shipping it back to China.
