Can we get a kernel to unlock more touch points?
How many would you like. This phone registers 4...
BANG! from my shooter...
At least five. . . The screen and Android both support way more than four. . . the iPod has been able to support five for years now
can someone explain to me by what you mean by Multitouch points?

The screen will recognize more than one finger on the screen at a time. Like when you pinch to zoom, the screen recognizes you have two fingers on the screen at one time. Some programs take advantage of even more such as SOLO. My question is, why would you need more than 4? What app takes advantage of more than 4?
oh ok thats what i thought it was but other then 2 fingers, what do you need 3 ,4 or even 5 multitouch points? Who does that?

Can you explain what you could possibly be doing that would require more than 4 touchpoints on the screen at one time? Or do you want it "just because"?
Fruit ninja for one is an app that would be nice to use five on, and some multiplayer games. Why do people really need their phones OCed to 2.0 GHz, it's not a necessity, it's just nice to have in case you ever need it. I thought one of the points for these forums was to push are phones to the max of their capabilities.
Can someone make a kernel that supports 20 touch points? I want to use all my toes also.

I'm going back to iphone.
This thing force closes way too much.... I know rooting and custom ROM can address some of it but I feel iphone is still optimized better than android. OK maybe I don't know but I just never had any issues with their hardware or apps.
Yeah I guess I'm not the type of person who really appreciates customization capability. I realized ONLY thing I like about this particular android is the large screen.
Sorry this is just a bad morning and my android is acting all ****ed up. Happens way too often.
If you are new to Android coming from the iPhone then you'll feel that way for a bit. I did miss my iPhone but once these awesome devs clear up some bugs you'll be really happy....if you like customizing. I couldn't stand iTunes so once I got around the noobness point, Android is so much nicer. The iPhone is more for people that just want to push an icon like my wife and kids.

Most likely a bad device.
I have had mine since mid December...all stock, only updates via Kies.
It's been more stable than 2.2.2 on my Dell Streak.
As for a 5" iPhone, well, Jobs is gone so anything is possible.
You watch though...if Apple comes out with a screen anywhere near the
size of 5", the iphone fanbois will trumpet it out that it is an innovation and
the best thing in the world LOL.
lol you do realize stuff crashes consistantly on the iphone it just doesnt tell you right?
Force Closes are from improperly written apps. this happens, there are so many varients in the Android world it is hard to keep up with the changes.
Apple has a set screen size depending on the device, Android has many different screen sizes.
If you like to DUMB down then go back to the iPhone.

My device functions this way because I read about everyone else problems and solutions and either avoid the base situation, or utilize the communities experiences for the solution... Our Android family bought our grandfather an iPhone because of his age... Lmao. Does that tell you anything? There was actually a study published a few months ago that showed that major iPhone apps actually crash more often than their Android counterparts; however, since the iPhone doesn't display a message to the user when that happens, and it doesn't give the users an option to report the crash, most iPhone users perceive fewer crashes. (In other words, they simply think that they must have hit the Home or Close buttons since all the iPhone does is crash back to their homescreens).
The second theory on why this is the case is that it's much easier and faster to release app updates on Android markets. Android devs can easily roll out responsive updates while iPhone devs have to submit every single update to Apple's ridiculous approval process.

The truth will set you free.
I've been running the I717 since day one and I've gotten exactly 1 FC from a weird app I downloaded. once I deleted it I was good. Try doing a factory reset and start fresh. download apps that have 4 or more stars. My phone has been a champ from day one with all the crap I throw at it (not even screen slowdowns like some are reporting). If you don't like it, you don't like it, there's no harm in that. All I know is my Ipod frustrates me something fierce when I use it so irritations go both ways. Hope you stick around, the stock ICS should be wandering through in the next couple of months. If you don't want to wait, I hear there's awesome Roms of ICS already. check it out.

I am the most unbiased person possible.
I switched from the iPhone back to Android because the screen was annoying for Draw Something, the edges on the phone are somewhat sharp & annoyed me in long typing sessions, no LTE.
What I've experienced on the Note, & why I said when I went back to the iPhone after the EVO3D that I would never go back to Android: LAG.
What good is customization if everything lags. What's the point of customization anyway? It's not like a computer that has incredible battery life & the customization is actually useful. It's just pretty widgets & UI mods.
I'm also shocked at how many ads are in the free apps compared to years ago.
Anyway, I'll go back to my sound app ecosystem with no lag. On top of that, the apps seem to run a lot smoother & take advantage of the A5 dual core vs the dual core in the Note.
+ I've spent way too much $$ on apps for iOS LOL. Sure I could get some for free on Android, but some simply aren't avail. Some I would have to buy again. Unfortunately, they all run better on iOS.
I will miss the s pen functions (and the Sammy cameras always seem better - I am disappointed by the 4S camera), but I'll survive. In my experience with android devices the major culprit for lag is on screen widgets that update. If you set up your device like ios with nothing but apps you will see no lag. If you use widgets and stuff you might redraw.

Interesting observations. Honestly I see my Ipod lag a whole lot more than my note (or even my streak) with much much fewer apps. I mean I use my ipod for pandora, email and rage comics and running all three at once it lags something fierce. I can do all that with my note plus play temple run and not see a stutter. As for the in app adverts, apple is just as bad, but the funnier thing is, the ration of paid vs free apps in IOS is a lot higher in favor of paid apps than in android, which is probably why you see fewer ads in IOS. One thing I noticed with IOS is most apps, especially the free ones, rarely have over 3 stars, makes me wonder if they're really worth the time... All I know is, between IOS and android, I prefer android hands down, I can customize my UI how I want to, I can have widgets if I'd like and do virtually whatever I want with it. if you want I can talk with my buddy to see if he'll trade his 4S strait across for your note.
As of June 1st I devoted a whole month to bettering my touch pad before I get an iPod touch... again for the 6th time. Anyway... my project started with customization fit for me.
Day 1- torrent to get my fav music and movies etc.
Day 2- Games!! Sims free play didn't work. So I spent a day fixing that. (Change dpi to 240, and changes files to dpi 160)
Day 3- Wallpapers- . I now how Ted smoking a blunt as my video wallpaper.
Day 4- Microphone! Download ever app and hack
ht works with the mic. (Google now, skyvi)
Day 5- Don't trust a hoe, no that's the song playing. Day 5 was a chill day to put my touch pad to the test. Battery! I played Sonic 4 at Max volume and brightness, Sims, music, watch a movie, download 18GB of content. Social networking, preparation for next school year. I typed my Us History class notes down. *not my notes*
*in the end of day 5 my TP rebooted 3x, got warm, and the sound got messed up more then 10x in 1hour.
Day 6- Camera- I didn't put much effort because it seemed impossible to see even the slightest fix.
Day 7- Let's pay our old dying friend a visit, webOS! (Nothing new)
Day 8- Oovoo with some friends. Oh wait no camera. My anger rose because the cam won't work amd no one uses Skype as they do oovoo. I messed around with anything any file any part of my touch pad to get my camera working. It needs a driver. And I tried using the driver from webos veer. I only got it to open the app. And stay black.*screen* right now my camera still won't work. But if a touch pad webos driver was used..maybe it could work. I just really want my oovoo and instagram abilities.
Look at this! It seems to be a working camera driver! Someone just needs to compile it

If you really wanted to video chat with your tablet, on Android, then a Touchpad really wasn't the right choice.
Complaining about little niggles such as this on a device that was never designed to run Android 4.0 is ridiculous. It's not going to be perfect, I never have any of the problems you described, I use O.A.T and everything works fine, games, music and videos, even the WiFi is quick and stable.

Thanks buddy! But on a more somber side note, the camera still has a ways to go before we see it on CNM. I would say a few more weeks (a couple months maybe) at the very least.
Skype on TP
Running CM 9 2012 07 10 and yes camera doesn't work but everything else works great. Brought new life and now I use it almost daily. A reboot to WebOS and then I can skype with family . Good enough for me, since I usually prefer to skype with my HD webcam on my desktop or laptop...or when on the go my phone. Best $150 I spent for 32gb tablet. Honestly i$ aside if I was being issues a tablet for work and had a choice between a ipad 1 or this touchpad I'd choose TP so I can use android. if Offered ipad2 I'd still choose TP, but would be tempted by the lower weight.
Really? You're upset that your $100-$200 non-native Android tablet is having trouble activating its paltry (1.3MP, I believe?) front-facing camera? Your phone probably has a better camera.
I'm trying to find an honest answer and I have a few speculations but I'm not sure.
For example, I just purchased an HTC One which is running the very latest Snapdragon S600 chip and Adreno 320 and I'm comparing it to the iPhone 5 (A6 and PowerVR SGX543MP3).
Here are a few applications (mostly games) that I've tried on both devices:
* Fruit Ninja - Touch input is delayed by about half a second on the HTC One but instant on iOS.
* Simpons Tapped Out - The voice sometimes stutters and moving buildings just isn't as fluid as iOS.
* Browser (Chrome and Android default) - Scrolling isn't as smooth.
Like I said, I'm honestly not biased one way or the other but this is just what I have noticed. The iPhone 5 has a much lower resolution but I've also had similar results on the iPad Mini (1024x768 resolution).
Does every application written for Android need to optimized for every individual CPU and perhaps these applications weren't optimized yet?

Oh Christ, what have you done!!!!!!
Prepare to get slated.
You've got a point though, I just moved back to Android from an iPhone 4s and for all its faults, the apps on the iPhone were more polished. Not all by the way, the apps I noticed a difference in were Sky Sports News and Facebook and BBC Sport. Haven't played games to be honest.
A bunch of random speculative reasons:
Less hardware variation; compiled apps vs java; multitasking is not as good on iOS; and I did read a big discussion once about how Android graphics subsystem has more layers of abstraction that are costly, but I don't recall the details.
I'm not sure the difference is that large anymore.
This thread is probably going to become a troll-fest. It doesn't really belong in a device specific forum.
Yup it's true, but less evident in latest Androids (4+). I think it's down to how software works.
I have bought iPhone because it's only decent phone without roms, and I was a flashoholic (about 10 roms a week). I instantly noticed polish and speed, plus a totally different touch recognition. You can hold one finger on iphone constantly and still do "single finger" stuff-the phone just ignores it after a while. Scrolling also works much nicer after you let go, deceleration seems just right . I started reading this forum only a week or two ago because I think i'm healed after 6 months, and I will get One as soon as it's available in my country (still faiting for lazy carrier f**s). Things OP noticed are very well known to anyone switching. It's normal and you simply have to get used to it. If it starts laging do a restore or flash a rom (and here we go again...)

scrolling is fine, I think apple patented smooth scrolling on mobile devices, just use a different less high profile browser, eg. try opera mobile and see how smooth scrolling can be on Android too.

It is all depends on your usage pattern. For me, it is fast enough (browsing, reading, movies) others might not think the same.
The point is, you need to identify what you really need in 10 inch tablet in reference of your usage.

The tegra chips aren't that good actually. They are mostly hyped up by Nvidia.
The only plus for them are the exclusive games.
If the Tegra 4 will be better is something which we don't know yet.
Actually, I think the hardware is quite capable, it's the software that I think needs improvement. Before I got my N10, I had an Asus Transformer, like the grandpappy of tablets. The N10 blows it out of the water. I replaced my Asus after 1.5 years, I can see me keeping the N10 a lot longer.

Dumbest thing I've ever read. Although not surprising from reading your previous comments.
This thing has a dual core A15 processor, nothing like the quad core A9s that people seem to think are better. Plus, the GPU is nothing to scoff at either. This thing will be around for a long time. I mean, hell, look at the XOOM. That thing has been around forever and even got JB.

Xoom was first - Xyboard followed. Xoom introduced Honeycomb to the world (which thankfully was very short lived). And yes the Xoom is still cruising along on 4.2.2, and performs far better than when it was right out of the box. I'm waiting for an updated N10 in the fall (or N11 as the rumours go) to finally replace the Xoom.

Absolutely. Technology always changes and gets better. The only time I experience any lag on this tablet is when the app itself is poorly designed. Web browsing has never lagged once, even on the stock ROM.
It does everything I want it to and more. I'm also happy to know I'll be receiving the latest OS updates lightning fast.
why people get upsad when others are saying their opinions and they dont come with arguments in compare ?

From my perspective, if you can wait, I strongly recommend you wait. The next nexus 10 will surely pack a quad core A15 chip alongside a much improved GPU. While the T604 GPU is no slouch, the next iteration is going to be better.
Given the mixed bag I've seen in terms of hardware quality (e.g., freezing, restarts, etc), it also makes me question Samsung's reliability for producing these things.
With all things, my preference is to always try and skip the first generation, if you can withhold the temptation. =)
It's already May. It's about 5 more months till the next announcement of the N10 is out. Every day you spend pondering the question is definitely another day that makes picking up the current N10 less worthwhile.
You can always wait for the next big thing which most of the time will be much better. The question you have to ask yourself is if you need the hardware now or not. If you DO need it, there is no point in waiting. You said it yourself, 5 months till the announcement and who knows how long till the next tablet will be availalbe to buy. In tech world that is a long time to wait.
In my opinion right now is a good time to buy mobile hardware (phone or tablet). Current hardware can run anything that's existing on the web and in the media world (HD streams, HD movies, etc etc). I do not see a dramatic web/content development coming that will push current hardware beyond its limits. It was very different a few months ago before current quad core chips and potent dual cores (in the case of the Nexus 10) made an appearence.
Gaming may be a different animal, but then again this depends on how you plan to use your tablet.

In my mind, many of us don't need a tablet. We justify wanting a tablet, but definitely not needing it. This is why I told OP, if he can wait, wait it out.
The next iteration is likely going to see improvements in the screen as well (e.g., maybe higher contrast ratio), etc.
5 months isn't too long. Just stop visiting the N10 forums. Problem solved.

Why would you post such a horribly done comparison? All you do is hate on the nexus 10 and yet you use one all the time apparently.
but anyway
Thanks everyone. I definitely don't need a 10" tablet (especially since I do have a nexus 7) but am certainly wanting one. but I guess I better wait for the next tablet to come out. I was hoping for a new tablet announced at google IO but am not surprised to not see one announced. I'm just impatient lol.
I bought one last week and will get it today. I couldn't decide for a long time and it out of stock here anyway. Atm there's nothing better in the market. And even though the Tablet Z is tempting as well it's not a Nexus.
I own an N7 as well by the way but I wanted a 10" tablet again because it works better for certain things (e.g. PDF)

I don't understand why people are saying there's going to be an announcement in 5 months. Just because the thing will have been out for a year doesn't equal a refresh, and there were tons of rumors floating around for a new Nexus 7 at Google I/O and that never happened.
If you tell yourself you can wait, you'll be waiting for the rest of your life because technology moves and keeps moving. There's always going to be something better, and better is always in the eye of the beholder. Just because a new version of a tablet gets released doesn't all of a sudden make your perfectly good tablet any less great, and it certainly doesn't break it in any way.
If you can utilize a bigger tablet and want it now, just get it. Your circumstances and needs are way different than people here, and the people here are always going to tell you there's another one coming around the corner. Which there's absolutely no proof of anyway.
