Introduction
Have you ever thought of having both Froyo and Gingrbread in your X8 and changing from one ROM to another whenever you want without having to flash them?

This CWM Modification was created by nobodyAtall for use on Xperia X10mini(Thread at X10mini Android Development).
With this MOD you can install two or more ROMs for use in a single phone, one ROM will be stored on phone's memory(internal) and one or more ROMs on sdcard(external) with the ability to change from one ROM to another fast and easy. I don't know if there's a limit on how many ROMs you can have on sdcard, as long as you have enough space(Remember, 400MB for every Boot option).
As posted on X10mini Android Development by nobodyAtall
Requirements (READ THEM CAREFULLY):
- CWM recovery pre-installed
- You need a FAST enough sdcard. I'd suggest not using this mod if your sdcard is less than Class 6
- Your sdcard should have enough free space. Each 'boot option' that you create reserves 400MB of space in your sdcard
- In order to create a new boot option, you need a flashable zip of the ROM you wish to boot to, as well as a patch for it's ramdisk.tar (if this is a custom ROM, stock ROMs don't need this). The flashable zip of the ROM is the same that is used for usual ROM installation. The patch should be provided by the ROM's cook.
Instructions for devs only
To create a bootable image, you have two options:
- Make use of CWM recovery (which can create boot images from update.zip) and provide a patch for your ROM that makes sure: app2sd is disabled, ramdisk.tar does not mount mtd* partitions under /system, /data, or /cache. This patch is also flashable via the new multiboot menu of CWM. If you need more info, see the attached MiniCM7-multiboot.zip
OR
- Manually create ext2 system.img, data.img and cache.img for users to push under /sdcard/clockworkmod/multiboot/<name>/

Installation - First Steps:
-Download CWM-Multiboot-r4.zip and DualRecovery.zip.
-Install the ROM you want to use in phone's memory as you would normally do.
Note: If you have already installed the ROM you want to use in phone's memory then you don't need to install it again.
-Flash the DualRecovery.zip normally with xRecovery via "-Install custom zip>-Choose custom zip from sdcard", browse and select DualRecovery.zip and then select "yes".
Note: Now you have both xRecovery and CMW Recovery installed .
Note2: To boot in xRecovery, keep pressing the back button while at the white Sony Ericsson logo. To boot in CWM Recovery, keep taping the screen while at the white Sony Ericsson logo.
-Boot in CWM Recovery.
-Flash the CWM-Multiboot-r4.zip via "-install zip from sdcard>-choose zip from sdcard", browse and select CWM-Multiboot-r4.zip and then select "yes".
-Reboot again in CWM Recovery.
Note: Now, you will see a "-multiboot" menu between "-advanced" and "-power off" menus. In "-multiboot" menu there exist the following sub-menus:
-Select default boot option
-Unset default boot option
-Create boot option from zip
-Delete existing boot option
-Flash zip to boot option
Explanations:
-Select default boot option: Set the external ROM in which you want the phone to boot from now on.
-Unset default boot option: Unset booting on external ROM so that the phone will boot in internal.
-Create boot option from zip: Select and install a ROM in sdcard.
-Delete existing boot option: Delete an already installed ROM from sdcard.
-Flash zip to boot option: Flash updates from this menu.
Now the installation as external is different between ROMs. CHOOSE YOUR PATH(S).

-Put your prefered apps, modules and other stuff you want on update-FroyoBread.v0##.zip and then put the ROM and the FroyoBread-Multiboot.zip in sdcard.
-Boot in CWM Recovery and select "-multiboot>-Create boot option from zip", browse and select update-FroyoBread.v0##.zip and wait untill it's done.

XGin is bigger than FroyoBread as any CM7 is bigger than any CM6. I can't find why should someone would use XGin as internal and CM6 as external.
Also I don't think it's possible as I read at nobodyAtalls Thread on X10mini Android Development.

I have Class 4 sdcard, 4 GB, I am using XGin on sdcard and I am using it as my main ROM, but because we can't use Froyos as external, I have XGin stored on sdcard. Believe me it's still a fast XGin as always. It's still smooth and you won't believe that it's running from sdcard.

I am not a Developer , nobodyAtall created this mod for X10mini so all thanks goes to him.
shpit and me only tested it to see if it works on X8.
And then I just posted it here so everybody can multiboot.
EDIT: But it is true that our devs on X8 have nuts.
Koulis thanks for your answers.
I am going to try and report

Actually, there no other ROMs yet that are made for multiboot, but I remind yet. About HACKDROIDs, it is a little difficult to get racht create CWM installation of HACKDROIDs because rachts' ROMs are not based on update.zip(I think because I am not using rachts' ROMs, sorry racht). About other GB ROMs, I don't think so because all installation has to be with CWM.
ok, i did the steps as stated but the phone always boots into froyobread 017.
what to do ?? and yes the folder multiboot contains the system and yes i chose "set default boot".

One user has the same problem..............maybe the tutorial is a little wrong. I'll do it again with the tutorial as base and I'll see if it's wrong.

When you Select default boot option, did you surely selected YES after choosing the newly created boot option.
EDIT: I did it again with base My Tutorial and it works OK. Make sure to flash everything of the 3 given archives when needed.

Okay, so I know this is a serious noobie question but I haven't been able to find the answer. I'm trying to install a theme. I'm running the Axura 2.2.9.0 ROM on my Vibrant.
Depends on how the theme has been packaged:
- If it's CWM flashable, then you put the zip on your sd card, boot into Clockwork, then flash it like you do anything else.
- If it's a morph, then you use an app called MetaMorph from the market. There's threads on here on how to use it.
The creator of the theme will tell you which way it is to be applied. Most are going to be CWM flashable, since it's the more user-friendly method.
I believe that the axura themes are flashable and they just get put on the sdcard and flashed over like the roms.
-download the theme you want
-move it from your download file to your INTERNAL sd card, thats the one that has like 12g of memory in it
-reboot into recovery, (not sure how axura works but if you dont have a recovery option after holding down the power button then hold down the volume up, down and the power keys at the same time, wait for the "vibrant" to flash at you then let go)
-select the option install zip from sd card
-select choose zip from sd card
-select the zip file you just downloaded
-scroll down to yes-install zip
-after it is done installing go to the last option - "[back]"
-select reboot system
-enjoy your new theme
this is all assuming you have clockwork recovery (the red recovery screen)
questions lemme know

Cool, I got it working. Thanks for all of your help everyone.
Hey plz tell me in detail how do i install custom rom (most stable with excellent performance) in my lg p500!!!
plz answer in detail including how do i wipe sd card and all
THnx in advandee
Have you rooted your phone?
Well I'll assume that you have an P500 with v2.2.2, Stock Rom Untouched.
Firstly you would want to root the phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Download Gingerbreak
- Make sure USB debugging is enabled(Can be enabled through settings)
- Make sure you have an SD card (formatted and) inserted
- Place the app onto the root of your SD card
- Open the APK, press the root button
- Wait a few minutes. If there are no problems, the device will reboot (note that the reboot itself can take like 10 minutes due to cache wipe)
Congratulations the phone is rooted.

After rooting your phone, you must have 1) Recovery Installer
2) Terminal Emulator (Free from market)
3) The Custom Rom
I recommend FranciscoFranco's Rom as it contains excellent tweaks without hassle of flashing many files which may cause your phone to brick.
Recovery Installer, You can get it from: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11987571/quick/recovery_installer.rar
when you have everything, lets start
1. extract contents of "recovey_installer.rar" to the root(meaning the base) of your SDcard.(it contains 3 files, so you should also see 3 new files on your SD card).
2. open terminal emulator, enter these lines(press enter after each line):
Code:
su
sh /sdcard/rf.sh
just wait and this should reboot you directly to recovery.
3. now in recovery(remember: "vol + and - button" is "up and down" "menu button is ok/select" and "back button" is back)
Congratulations, Your Recovery Installer is installed.
Now, You can get FranciscoFranco's Rom which is called Devoid from
here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049518
Download franco.devoid and the kernel.
Go to recovery boot
1.Select Wipe and Wipe everything and that includes data+factory settings, cache, system, .android-secure and sd-ext partition (if you had it already)
2. Select ext partition and choose either ext2/3/4 : 512mb,swap:0
3.Toggle usb connection and place devoid.franco and the kernel zip files onto your sd card.
4.Select flash and flash devoid.franco first then flash the kernel. You do not need to toggle signature verify as it should have signatured. If you are a ***** then carry on and toggle signature verify.
5.Reboot.
Enjoy

There's an option where it says "wipe" when you are in your recovery boot you should enter that category and wipe what the developer says.
Also there should be a guide of how to flash cm7 onto your phone in the thread itself
There shouldn't be any problem .
Do you mean you do not know how to enter recovery boot menu?
If so, open your terminal emulator and type
su
reboot recovery
It will reboot your phone to recovery boot.
Then wipe what the developer asks you to wipe,
make the partition on your sd card wether its ext2/3/4
Then flash it.

Hi,
I'm having problems installing a custom rom and need your help!
Here's what I did:
0) Installed the lastest SW (version 2.1.1.A.0.6 + baseband M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015)
1) Rooted and installed xRecovery without any problems at all
2) I place a custom room in the root of the sd card (tried several different ones)
3) Boot up in xRecovery
4) Select "factory reset" (with succes)
5) Select "Install custom zip" - "choose custom zip from sdcard" and then select my custom rom and answer "yes"
Then therese a shot flash of events, but it's too fast to read. At any rate nothing is installed. I'm able to restore my backup with any problems.
How come I can't install a rom?
Thanx all!
u are posting wrong question at this side dude....zZzz....

Edit:
U might try some other recovery app maybe? There should be atleast two choices..
Yep, wrong section for this question but:
Try this xrecovery http://www.mediafire.com/?lz6gwgohuakvbfo

Thanks, but that one didn't work either.
Sry about the wrong section posting!
easy dude !
1. make sure it's .zip file.
2. open the .zip and have alook at it's containments
3. if there is only one folder with the name of the ROM, then u need to extract that .zip and put the extracted folder in SD\ xrecovery\ backup then use "restore" from xrecovery menu
else if u find two folders "meta" and "system", then it simply should have worked!
4. never mind the SPAMMERs

Hello XDA!
I know there has been a lot of guides for this, but I am going to explain everything very clearly, so please don't remove this thread, I am just trying to help people who don't have very much experience with Android phones.
So let's begin!
Requierments:
1. An X10Mini or X10MiniPro
2. A MicroSD card (Not necessary, a MicroSD adapter)
3. USB Cable
Step 1.
To install a custom ROM, you need to root your phone, ofc you do! So I am going to leave a link how to root your phone (made by me!)
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256014
Step 2.
You need to search a ROM and a kernel, all ROM's don't require a custom kernel, but most of them do, so I will drop a list of good ROM's and kernels!
ROM's that run on stock kernel:
1.XperianBlaze (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644846)
2.MiniCM7Pro (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201116)
ROM's that require on a custom kernel:
1.MiniCM7, MiniCM9, MiniCM10 (https://code.google.com/p/minicm/)
2.GingerDX (http://x10miniandpro.blogspot.com/2012/08/gingerdx-v028b-070812.html)
3.XperiaBlaze (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644846)
4.Slim ROM's+ CM10 Revised (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2079747)
5.JBMini Project (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789713X10)
6.MIUI (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991720)
Now some custom kernels (credits go to nAa.)
1.nAa GB kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350484)
2.nAa JB kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837271)
3.nAa ICS kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1636504)
There are more kernels but I think these are the best (my opinion.)
Now that you have chosen a ROM, put it on your SD Card, don't forget to download GAPPS, and put that on your SD Card aswell!
Step 3.
1. Download the kernel from the list above! And download FlashTool (http://www.4shared.com/file/JMFhqX8K/flashtool-0990-windows.html)
2. Place the kernel in the (C:Flashtool/firmwares folder). AND DELETE X10BLRELOCK! It will give you lots of trouble!
3. Now open FlashTool, press on the flash button, select Flashmode and then the kernel that you placed in the Firmwares folder.
4. Power off your phone! Hold on your back button on the phone and connect the USB Cable, and wait for the FlashTool to flash the kernel. Then disconnect.
Step 4.
Now that you flashed the kernel, you have CWM installed, the phone will boot itself into recovery because stock ROM will not boot with that kernel. Now when you are in recovery, do these steps:
1."Factory reset/wipe data"
2."Wipe cache partition"
3.Go to "advanced", and "Wipe Dalvik cache".
4.Now go to "mounts and storage", and "Format system" and "Format SD-ext".
5. "Install .ZIP from SD Card" then "Choose .ZIP from SD Card". Now select the ROM you wanted to flash.
6. Flash the ROM, and after that flash GAPPS!
7. And you are done! Enjoy the new ROM!
If you have any problems, write a reply or just PM me, I will be happy to help!
PRESS "THANKS" IF I HELPED YOU IN SOME WAY!
Hi everyone,
I successfully flashed CWM 6.0.4.7 on my 501L X1. This is thanks to the great folks at android-hilfe.de who compiled the links and most importantly the talented people at huafans.cn who created it.
This is NOT my work but I am sharing it for everyone's benefit. It helps if you can read Chinese though

You're from Malaysia as well right?
Anyway, this came from the Chinese huafans forum, so it should work with the 503L, and even the 501u. If you can read Chinese, you may check it out.

Dear Sir,
So far I did not try installing the Chinese recovery. I would like to do a full back-up BUT I don't see in your translation how to go "Back to previous menu" in Chapter 5 to reboot device.
Any suggestion, and did you try to back-up yours?
Kindly yours from an old man:angel:

Sorry missed that.
The last option showing

means "back to previous"
This is in the last line of every chapter
Yes I did successful backup. Will try restore sometime tonight.

No boot recovery...
I did step after step exactly what you did, but it doesn't reboot in Chinese recovery.
Download recovery_cn.img, put it in My internal SD, then flash with Flashify then try to boot with Flashify menu.
I stay with The Huawei Logo on for 1 or 2 minutes then boot normally.
The only difference is that you flash recovery from 4.22 and I did from Kitkat Maj 102

I'm not sure why it won't work for you, as @zertux in the other thread could do it, and so have several others in my home forum.
At worst, try the Vol Up + Power combo after you have shut down.
However, make sure you are PLUGGED IN VIA USB TO A PC. For some strange reason, getting to Recovery and Fastboot modes on this device needs you to have your device connected to a PC.

Dear sir,
Back to you this morning, and I might need your advice/help because Vol Up + Power combo after you have shut down does NOTHING!
Did you, by any chance, backup the original previous Stock Recovery in Flashify?
If yes, would you be kind enough to send it to me?
That would be fair!

Hi!
I have Mediapad X1 7d-501u and I successfully change stock recovery with this CWM v6.0.4.7. But now I have problem, because I cannot start Android, there is loop, so when I turn on device it goes into CWM Recovery. How is this possible? Thank you for all suggestions.

Dear sir,
If you still have this loop problem, if you can boot in bootloader there is a way to get back to your original recovery and then start Android like it was before.
Kindly yours from an old man:angel:
Here are the great advices from fellows that help me to get back to my original recovery
First : download and install "Huawei update extractor"
Second : download and install on your desktop : android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1 (Google is your friend)
Third : open your previous update.app with "Huawei update extractor" then extract previous recovery.img and copy it into Tools folder from "android-sdk-windows-1.6_r1"
Fourth : hold shift and right clic on fastboot folder for open a command
type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (you can paste in fastboot cmd window with right click)
click enter and VOILA
From Joytest :
you can extract the recovery.img from an update.app with the "Huawei update extractor" search on google.
ive the same issue i extract the recovery from YOUR ORIGINAL ROM and flash with fastboot (flashify dont work) and all its done
the fastboot command is: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (you can paste in fastboot cmd window with right click)
click enter and fastboot wait for your device
put your phone in fastboot mode holding up and power (or down and power ) for 5sec

YOU SAVED THE DAY!!!
Thank you your suggestion works. When I tried to install ROM by CWM, there was error message "E:footer is wrong". I tried all ROMs I found (for 7D-501u). But with original recovery I was able to install the ROM and it works now.
Thank you!
Jozef
@bvannier you have nicely summarised the steps to recover from a faulty recovery. I would like to post this to Lowyat page 1 with your permission.
