[Q] Thunderbolt ADB problems - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm attempting to root my Thunderbolt on a Mac. I've followed the instructions from the dev section, but whenever I try to "./adb push XXX" it tells me it "cannot stat 'XXXX': no such file or directory." How can I fix this?

It would help to know exactly what XXX is.

Sounds like you don't have the files in the directory you're running from. It can't find them with the information you've given it hence it reports they don't exist.
Change to the dir of the files then run or add the location in the filepath.

Xxx could be psnejter or any of the exploits that I'm trying to push.

It's either what the previous post said or you are pushing to the wrong directory. Most likely it's what he said though.

I'm not on a MAC, but my directory is c:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools>
**You can always hit <tab> to jump to the directory you're looking for after entering in a couple characters of the folder you want.

I agree it sounds like your programs are not in the file/directory they should be located in.

I posted a pretty comprehensive walkthrough in the development section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011623
I recommend you look through there first. now, what you've done wrong: The files don't go in your sd card, they need to be put in the platform tools folder.
Post in my thread if you have anymore trouble, or if it helps you.
I would post there but I dont have 10 posts yet.
I don't have all of the files on my memory card only the one where you change it to p5000 or whatever it's called the problem I'm having is when inam doing this
Now, navigate to your home folder and there is a text file there for you. Pretty neat, eh?
Now, we need to navigate to adb. Go to your android-sdk-mac_x86 folder, open it. Now, go back to terminal, type cd and drag the folder Platform-tools to the terminal window. You should see a green dot with a plus sign in it, that means you can add the folder to the terminal window. It should read something like this:
Code:
cd /Users/Your Computer's Name/Downloads/android-sdk-mac_x86/platform-tools
If you moved the android-sdk-mac_x86 folder (Like I did) after downloading it, it will only be slightly different. (My folder was in my home folder, so it just says /users/my computer/android-sdk-mac_x86/platform-tools)
Once you do this, you are ready to begin
Once I Follow these directions above I am getting thus error
Jays-Mac-Proplatform-tools experience$ ./adb push psneuter /data/local/
cannot stat 'psneuter': No such file or directory
I am at a loss. Please help!
bump. Need some help figuring this out. Been reading the the guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1011623 and I still can't figure this out. Any help would be appreciative
i used corey streeter's walkthrough over at androidcentral.com...it could not have possibly been easier if you follow directions exactly...there is a video too

Just to confirm, psneuter, busybox and misc.img go into your platform tools folder, not your sd card. You aren't actually pushing anything, and you're receiving that error because there is nothing to push. Now, if you put the files from the exploit folder into your platform tools folder, it will work.
Good luck man I hope you get it to work...It was my first time with rooting a phone and I didnt think it was too hard except for the time it took to get it all done
the error msg you are getting is because the files you are trying to push are not in the directory you think they are.

That did it! I am officially rooted and i am making my first back up with clockwork. Thanks so much!
I love the forums on xda! I finally have a rooted thunderbolt. Now to decide what rom to load! Hopefully cm7 comes out for the Thunderbolt soon. Loved that on my incredible.
I find myself in the same boat, terminal replies "no such directory"
q: I know that the OP's directions explicitly say to download Android SCK...revision 3 <-- has this changed to just the platform tools?
the reason I ask, I have all the files dl and in the folders that sidek1ck says to, but CANT complete Step 5. Setup terminal for ADB. I open up terminal, type the letters "cd", drag and drop the "platform tools" folder to no avail..."no such directory exists"
I simply CANNOT find where I am going wrong here
Please guide me, as this guide seems to work seemingly flawless for everyone else

[Q] Viperbloat doesn't exist

I tried to load the viperbloat mod but every time I run it, it says viperbloat doesn't exist. I tried through cmd and terminal emulator and still same answer and no work. Any suggestions?
Download my update. It 3.1.1 was pushing files to /vendor/bin which now no longer exist on perm root. I updated 3.1.2 to fix this. Enjoy
Hey thanks, but it still is failing to push the viperbloat file. it is saying
failed to copy 'viperbloat' to '/system/bin/viperbloat': Read-only file system
Unable to chmod/system/bin/viperbloat: No such file or directory
This is all that is said when I am running the .bat file. Am I doing something wrong, is my phone messed up? Please help

Oh, I forgot to update that part of the script. Damn, sorry. Just use root explorer to mount rw then run the .bat file.

Either use adb if you have it installed and just type adb remount then run the .bat or if you have Root Explorer, open it, tap on /system and then at the top there is a little white button that will say "mount r/w", tap that and then run the .bat file.

Can't you just do "adb remount system" to mount it r/w, then push it?

[SOLVED] Renamed PortalApp with Root Explorer

In trying to enable the webtop app I renamed the PortalApp.apk to PortalApp.apk.bak. Now I get an error message:
"The application com.android.portal (com.android.portal) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
I know, I shouldn't have renamed that apk when in the thread it didn't say to but I figured I needed to replace that too. I've learned my lesson.
How can I go about fixing this?
Connect your mobile to computer .
I hope you have adb checked already!
Open cmd.
And write:
adb shell
su
(and TRY TO ALLOW on the phone)
mv system/app/PortalApp.apk.bak system/app/PortalApp.apk
If you can't allow SU request, respond here. To give a try with same commands on early usb enumeration!
If I helped, hit thanks button

Yes. I Am on the atrix. And I couldnt see or remember your apk, so I posted and later edit.

I do have the sdk installed and I've used it before but I've forgotten how to get to it. Just typing "adb shell" on the first line of cmd won't do much help if I'm not in the right directory.
With windows explorer!
Find your sdk folder. Enter it.
Copy everything.
Go to Windows folder, and paste everything!
Now you have "adb" command directly in your cmd prompt!

You can perm root with MacOSX. Get the Android SDK for Mac, then all you need to do is edit the batch file(to use mac/linux convention) and supplement the command file(s) from the Mac SDK. It's actually not as bad as it sounds.
The only Windows files in there can be replaced with the Mac equivalent. The actual important part(s) are android files. Matter of fact...I just did the script for you. Now all you need to do is drop your Mac version of ADB in the "tools" directory.

[SOLVED]Opening up .sbf file on Linux

how do you open up an sbf file to look inside it? I can't find the answer on the app to use successfully. Also, I'm on Ubuntu 11.10 if that helps any, thanks!
I was under the impression these files are encrypted and really can't be opened up per say. I could certainly be wrong though.

there was a way on windows to open it up and look at it's contents, but now that i've switched to Linux I can't seem to find something that'll open it up.
I'm pretty sure it's just ./<sbf file> just make sure you cd to it in terminal
