[Q] Broken USB port -> warranty, but rooted - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello everybody,
I just got a little problem. My USB port is broken, means i won't charge and connect to my pc and now I want it to send it back to SE, 'cause of the warranty. Before it broke, I flashed it back to stock firmware via PC companion. I was on a coustom rom and it was rooted. My question now is: Is it still rooted with stock firmware? I mean, I can't get into xRecovery. And what will SE do, when they got it back rooted? Will they just send it me back? Or will they keep it?
Thanks in advance.

Its no longer rooted if you flashed it back to stock rom

Lucky you! Did you do something special in order to make them change the phone? I sent my phone for a broken usb connector but they refused to repair although my x10 is still under warranty.

Why donĀ“t you ask SE?
I dont think SE like root and floyo.
Try to restore original firmware with xRecovery, and try to wipe all traces of root.
Borrow a friends battery if you need, as example my old C905s works in this phone.
Or just kill it, run over it with a car, drop it from 6th floor etc and use your home insurance

On the forum I saw a guy with x10 mini and he's from Estonia too.
I can transfer files via WIFI the app called file expert.
Maybe i could ask him to make a backup of his stock rom, then just restore it ?

A physical damage repaired SE anyway to guarantee. Therefore, the loss due to root no matter warranty
Or maybe I could use another MicroUSB port and solder it to the phone ?

[Q] restore to factory settings is it safe ?

hi i'm sending off my x10 for repair tomorrow (usb port) and i have xrecovery installed allong with busy box will restoring factory setting through the phone uninstall xrecovery. as i want to get rid off all traces. also does anyone knows how the warranty works on the x10 as i had it repaired by vodafone and im not sure if they voided the warranty, this time im sending it to se (flashed uk generic) i cant see any warranty sticker.
thanks
Factory reset just resets/cleans data... so busybox/superuser/xrecovery will not be removed!!!
If u can use flashtool then flash to a firmware of ur region and don't root after that...
sent from FreeX10_beta4+CM6 settings
Or you can use SEUS to do a repair and put your phone back to it's "factory state"
i cant use seus or flashtool as the usb port is broken i have root explorer installed anyway i can do it using that

ok good...
provide the following details:
1] which model of X10 do u have? X10 (came pre-installed with 1.6) or X10HD (came pre-installed with 2.1)?
2] X10i or X10a?
3] was ur phone operator-branded (Rogers/etc) or unlocked?
4] wht is the current baseband on ur phone?
me n rendeiro2005 are working on something specifically for such cases... (users who are having broken USB connectors and are unable to use flashtool)... our work is still in progress... but we should be completed soon...
This is the best news ever, it was branded x10i Vodafone UK it came with 1.6. im currently running UK generic current baseband 2.0.46 which I flashed ages ago to get the 2.1 update. I wont send it off tomorrow in case se get a bit miffed with all the stuff installed I wish you best of luck with your project it will be a god send for most users
so u have a X10 (not X10HD)...
since ur BB is 2.0.46 i am guessing u have the FW 2.0.A.0.504 ?
have u used the:
Generic version 2.1update1 build 2.0.A.0.504 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746 ?
Yes thats correct fw but I used the build prop method to debrand.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
em ok... if u can upload the original build.prop file i can try to include it in the project we are working on... so u will have a branded rom...
Which build prop as I only have the one im running UK debranded or I could change it using root explorer and upload that
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
upload the one which u want when u finally send the phone for repairs in ur region...
Right so Vodafone is the one I want tomorrow when I get access to my pc ill upload it
Thanks again
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
btw the project is not yet complete... so it might take some time for it to work... also there is no guarantee that it will work 100%... we are trying to make it as clean as possible based on whtever knowledge we have...
Yeah sound I understand its a work in progress.

Try it, see if it works before you do anything else, if it does it on stock it will always do it
Sorry I don't think I was to clear, I mean say I've flashed a custom ROM done something wrong and it bricks or say it goes right and I don't like it, will I then be able to put it into pc companion and use the repair tool to put it onto stock firmware?

I don't think you understood me either
Not everyone has the repair option in PC Companion, so try to repair your phone first before you do anything else, and if that works, you can always use PC Companion to get it back, almost no matter what you do wrong
You don't have to go all the way, just to the bit where it wants to flash, if you get there, your can cancel it, you will be ok for when it's really needed.
Aw okay thanks my girlfriend has got this phone and I put cm7 on her old one and she loved it (it makes the phone so much faster) and she asked if I could do it with this one so I just want to know how to do everything and what to do when things go wrong before I go flashing so I don't ruin it haha I posted a thread about it maybe you could have a look and suggest something? Thanks

Good to hear that!! Try to make some research, u will be lucky to find 1 custom rom that you need! (sorry for my poor in English)
Cheers!
Thumb up:cyclops:
Always remember to try a factory reset. If you can't even get to that point, I guess repair is a safe option you have. But be warned, this will delete all your phone internal data i.e. data on your phone's internal memory.
