[Q] Kies wont recognize phone's firmware after update - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
something went wrong when i updated to KE7:
after updating, the device showed some console, with text "update aborted" (if i remember right)
i then restarted the device and plugged to the computer, but now kies doesn't know what firmware I have.
In the phone though, I can see the update was successful and the phone is fine.
This issue is bothering me since i'm affraid I wont be able to update in the next update.
Help?
Thanks

Check intratech thread in the dev section and download Odin and flash your updates via that, kies is buggy and should be given a wide berth... Odin is the best and safest way to update, plus you will get updates faster as when leaks are posted you can flash straight away the instructions on Odin are in intratechs thread too

one more thing,
Because this phone was imported to my country by a private store I'm not sure its really from the UK, so where can I really see its "XEU"?

If I backed up using Kies, will I feel any difference after restoring it? will it bring all
the apps and settings back?
if not, is there any other way to fix it?
By the way my dad has the same phone from the same country, and his CSC is I9100CPWKD1, maybe i'll just flash the firmware i just wrote here (or a different one which you'll tell me to)?
Thanks

Go to the stock rom thread in dev section find the CSC you want and flash via Odin as CSC .

I dont even know what CSC mean, I'm fine with the one my phone have right now which is an english one, so I guess that would be the one I posted?
It doesn't remove the warranty or wipe data, right?

[Q]Flash back to stock ROM

I want to flash back to stock rom but I have some question first:
-Do I need to convert filesystem to rfs before flashing stock rom which is rfs?
-Which is the best stock rom: KPE, KPN or KPO?
-Does CSC matter if I don't plan to update using KIES?

No you do not need to convert filesystem to rfs, it'll automatically convert to rfs
Personally if i were you i would go with latest stable release like KPO,
CSC don't matter unless don't plan to update through KIES,
I would recommend to use MULTI CSC Mod by redmanner

Ok. I flashed stock KPO rom and rooted it succesfully but one thing bothers me:
How do I remove Swype that is bundled with official firmware? I want to use the beta but the already installed one blocks it.

I too moved from CM to stock.
I flashed xxkph and is running fine.
But when I connected it to kies it is saying that the phone can't be updated.
Does this mean the phone is not completely unrooted?
Should I do something to completely unroot it?
In other thread I got a reply that flashing UK 3 stock ROM will solve the problem. But I wonder if I can flash my Unlocked mobile ( Mobiles bought in India are unlocked only, right? ) with some other carrier ROM.
Completely erase internal SD
Hi Guys,
At some stage I installed a custom ROM that had Indonesian as the default language.
Even though I restore stock ROM with Odin, this Indonesian language remains as the default.
Also, the phone used to boot with Galaxy Cooper but now it boots as Galaxy Ace.
How to completely get back to original?
Must I format the internal SD?
How is this done?
No, it means that your csc is not set for your region! and since is not set KIES cannot upgrade it, but don't worry, do this:
*#06# ( Note that down )
Now
*#272*(The number you've noted down)#
Choose csc from your region so KIES can uptade (WARNING**** CHANGING CSC WILL DO A FACTORY RESET)

set csc is simpler then that you dial *#272*(Your IMEI number)#
Now chose the letters from your country!
IMEI -to know IMEI dial *#06#

[Q] What is my Stock Firmware

Hey all, I'm new here and recently got a Samsung Galaxy S2.
I'm new to android and loving it.
I recently (somehow) was able to root my phone successfully(on the second try) and was at the part in the tutorial to get rid of the Yellow Triangle by flashing back my PDA firmware of the stock version of my phone.
Problem is, I have no idea what the stock version was because when I flashed the new firmware in the about screen it says a different version now.
I have a little mixed information because I wrote down in a text document before flashing the 1st try, then took a screenshot before the second try.
SO NOW I HAVE 2 LEADS, but still confused lol

Heya, yes thats the post I used to try and find the correct firmware but nothing is matching up, Still got my Yellow Triangle. hmm. wish there was a utility or somewhere on my phone i can see its orignal firmware version/info.
hope someone can steer me in the right direction.
Get the PC version of Checkfus.
Choose your carrier, country & phone model & it will tell you what firmware was released with the phone in that country. It will also enable you to download the latest firmware you'd normally get via Kies.

What is the file called? If it is a full firmware, it will have MUCH more than just a zImage in it. zImage is just the kernel.
Product Code: GT-I9100LKACPW

Okay so inside of GT-I9100_CPW_1_20110916085339.zip.enc2

SS_DL.dll
And inside of the HOME.tar.md5 file there is:
boot.bin
[O] cache.img
[tj] factoryfs.img
hidden.img
modem.bin
param.lfs
Sbl.bin
zlmage
Whats the best way to approach this? Toss the zImage to Odin? or is there a more fuller way to utilize all these files?

No. Just extract "9100XWKI4_I9100CPWKH1_I9100XXKI1_HOME.tar.md5" from the zip, and flash that via Odin in the PDA field. Don't touch anything else in Odin. That will flash the entire firmware, kernel (zImage) included.

Sure, any time you want it. You just have to download it and flash it the same way you just flashed above. (but for your own sake, make sure you do your due diligence with research before you do it)
Just be aware of what you are getting into. I'm staying away from ICS until all the bugs I hear about are ironed out.
Ok this is weird. After flashing my stock firmware with odin, I just checked to see if i was rooted with the check root app and it says I'm no longer rooted?

Crucio may be right. Looks a lot like touch CWM to me (looks exactly the same as mine). However, if you look at the log of what happened on the screen, it's gone thru every SGS2 variant it has in its checklist & seemed to fail to find all/any of them, sooo...
That would tend to suggest the firmware attempting to be flashed isn't for/doesn't work with any of those phones in that list.

For now, it would probably best to restart from stock, just in case.
Download this or other official ICS:

Those images indicate that your device failed a model and product check before it allows the package to flash. Looks like it is checking for GT-I9100, GT-I9100T, or GT-I9100M. Check your model number under your battery. Is it for sure one of these models? Or something else?
model: GT-I9100

I'm realy confused what the hell is wrong
you have the I9100G version as indicated by the ssn. I9100GSMH., to flash you need to go to the g subforum for firmware that will work with your phone.
You can not use international version firmware.

That's not true. SSN is not indicative of the model. MODEL is the model.
I have an I9100, (NOT a G) and my SSN is I9100GSMH. I think the G in the SSN is part of "GSM", indicating the cell tech maybe?

Pull the /system/build.prop file, and see what that file has for ro.product.model, ro.product.name, ro.product.device, and ro.product.board.

So it sounds like you don't have ADB. You probably need to download and install the Android SDK. (download that here)
Also sounds as if you should go over some of the basics: Galaxy SII Bible - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473577
This may also help in the event all else fails: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449771
ICS update via CWM a guess say its a wrong format file or it should be flashed via Odin .
But as nil details of the upgrade file are posted its a guess .

Could you tell me what is your current ROM version?
how did you flash CWM is it Cf-root?

because i can flash google apps in CWM but no roms. Then that error comes what i posted
It is obvious when you can flash a kernel, but you can't flash a ROM, because it can't properly read the NAND, but can flash a kernel. But you ask, why the kernel? Because flashing a kernel is a bit deeper than flashing a ROM. When you flash a kernel, you're changing/putting new instructions to the hardware, and when flashing a ROM, the instructions that are drewn are different and more "simple", so when flashing, ODIN will say "FAIL" instead of "PASS", or suddenly stopping the flash out of nowhere.

You have given only very few information,
You flashed a CWM on a Rooted phone? or CWM with a rooted kernel?
your posted version of CWM has got normally issues reported..
try to flash Siyah kernel from ODIN, then you try the ROM from CWM

This is my first Android device. That's why I don't want it bricked. so I need step by step information.
Again I'm saying that I want my Samsung Galaxy S2 back to its original Ice Cream Sand witch form.
I mean I want it to be just like a newly brought Samsung Galaxy S2 from showroom.

Like i said there is a step by step guide in that thread.
Maybe if you can explain what you don't get, then i can help you futher.
After you flashed a samsung stock rom, dail this code *2767*3855# (this will preform a factory reset, everything will lost)
About the firmware: I don't think you have a carrier lock, so just take the newest firmware for your country.

You didn't tell me anything about " How to backup and restore, in case I brick my phone "
And oh yes !!!!!! after flashing I want it to be unrooted.
Actually, my phone is heating up, specially around the camera and upper Samsung logo. Thats why im switching it back to its original version. Maybe this is cause of the heating problem.
And thank you very much.

if you flash the firmware using odin, root will be removed. before you do this activity read more on flashing this will help you avoid bricking your device. after flashing the firmware via odin and if you are stuck in samsung logo, just reboot the device in recovery mode and do factory reset/wipe and then reboot it should be fine.
