hey guys im hoping you will have some insight to my problem. well i just got the galaxy s ii and its great but i have a problem with the camera. When i open the camera it does not autofocus even though it is on that setting..if i focus on something it remains blurry and if i hold down the shutter key it just comes up with the red box..now strangely enough, if i switch the cam to Video mode it will focus and if i then switch it back to camera mode it WILL focus..so nothing is wrong with the cam but its the software..i tried doing the camera reset and still have the problem..any insight?
checked the focus mode? also in which firmware ur in currently?

Try another camera app, if the problem still persists update your firmware via kies, if it doesnt fix then head to samsung service center
On SGS II there are a lot of different types of camera. I'm talking about the hardware. Make a little google about it. As far as I know, the "OC" type of camera is the worst. Type: *#34971539# and in the menu that will appear check here "Phone/Cam Fw version".

Got the tab a week ago. The front facing camera was working fine, tried it again today and the color was all screwed up. Is this a hardware or software problem? The back camera still works fine. The picture attached was taken from the front camera.
I would think it is a software issue. Did you install any rom or photo software?
Nope. Havent installed any camera apps or messed with any settings.
If you have root, and you can try flashing a fresh rom.
I have exactly the same issue on my Nexus S. Back camera also works fine. I have stock 4.1.2. Never flashed anything else. Phone version is I9023XXKI1. I know it worked flawlessly for months in skype. Then it changed to this weird color mode for some calls and back without any apparent reason. Now it doesn't change anymore. It just stays this way. I tried to change many settings, nothing helps. I'm also attaching image.
This is the only post I found that seems to be the same as my problem. The hardware is different (well, they are both from Samsung) but result is the same.
My camera worked initially but after switching it to front cam and back I can't get it to display anything and it will force close after 5 seconds.
Face unlock works without a problem and I have tried clearing the camera's data.
3rd party camera apps also fail with the same problem.
Any ideas? I am unrooted and no modifications done yet. Just got the phone yesterday..

Thats looks like a system failure... Unrooted...
Try switching phone on and off. Be sure the problem didn't come from a recent app instaltion. Factory reset with a reliable backup and if that didn't help ring samsung. If not you could try flashing a different ROM but chances of that fixing it aren't that great!
I had this yesterday when changing video resolution, not happened since.

Have you tried checking if there is a new firmware update for your camera? presuming its the rear camera.

Got Camera failed warning... When starting the camera app, it woorks but camera part of screen is black, while I can move icons, but cannot switch to front camera nor trigger shot. After some time warning appears and app turns off... Tried everything I could think of, resetted, cleared app data, reinstalled several fws, cm9, kernels, tried code *34971539# - result is that it shows test title but no firmware info and again it shows test failed and than it turns off... Still, front camera is working only if trying face recognition... Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!

then it's a hardware problem man.. i'm experiencing that one too. i'm waiting for my shipped camera to arrive so i could get mine replaced.
no matter how i flash firmwares, roms, and etc., it doesn't fixed it.

so, u gonna replaced yourself?:fingers-crossed:
since new camera never worked i upgraded stock firmware made a factory reset but the problem is still there, the camera keeps a black screen freezes, buttons dont work and sometimes it says "camera fail"
would it be a hardware issue?
The camera should work with stock (out-of-the-box) firmware. You did the right thing and flashed newer firmware and also factory reset.
That should have fixed it if it was firmware issue...........
Rooting and installing any custom firmware would be a waste of time.
It's obviously a hardware issue, so re-flash the original firmware and return it for replacement asap.

Hi, I have bit different symptoms.
My back camera is working fine but I have problems with my front camera.
When I use my front camera it shows very darker screen than other GS3.
Also, when I want to switch from front to back camera it lags and switches after 5 seconds.
Sometimes it gives me error message when switching and it kicks me out to the home screen.
I don't know what is wrong.
I did the factory reset and the symptoms were still there.
When I reflashe the phone the symptoms are gone but it appears later.
I thought it was caused by one of the apps so deleted all the apps I have one by one.
Did not work out.
Will this be a hardware problem?
So my sisters Titan 2 started having Issues where the camera auto focus is just wrong. When you go to take a picture the auto focus briefly has a clear picture, but then it starts to focus and becomes blurry and then takes the picture and there no option to disable autofocus. She was running 7.5 and I updated to 7.8 and the problem continues. I think its a possible hardware issues from a drop since it was not always like that.
If its a hardware issues i assume there is no fix.
If its a software problem would flashing the RUU via USB/Goldcard fix the issue (recalibrate?).

I have the exact same problem as above, including a brief moment of infocus and then out of focus. Front camera works fine. My phone suffered no damage, one day it exhibited this behavior. I am not at all any sort of developer, could anyone explain in more detail " flashing the RUU via USB/Goldcard" process. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
