I am running KG2 firmware and have rooted the device. However everytime I go into recovery mode through CWM, I do not get to see the install .zip from sdcard option.
What could be wrong ?
Can't you try using the CWM app when the phone is on to select a zip and flash it?
Wrong CWM should be 4 or above not 3 ( blue ).

Did you flash ClockworkMod Recovery first??
Either download an update.zip with cwm recovery in the development section or use ROM manager to install cwm.
Then use install from zip in cwm and choose your ROM file from your sd card.
Did install the recovery but the update just wont install when I try to install it from the Tom manager.
Sounds like you're trying to flash the wrong thing. You shouldn't be flashing an update.zip, that sounds like the root file. Make sure you are flashing the correct .zip
Sent from my Vibrant running GingerCloneR2
the update.zip file is the root file. Whatever rom your flashing will have that name in on the zip file. Follow these steps:go to clockwork recovery mode, install zip from sd, choose zip from sd, then look for rom name on the zip file(example Bionix v5.zip), click on file, click yes, when it's done installing reboot.
Hi all just got my first android phone (SGS2 of course)

Installation Instructions:
I highly recommend flashing the full rom! (updates can be unpredictable)
(If you have problems with the update version, flash the full rom instead)
BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP!!
Download the rom zip from below (don't rename it!)
Put the downloaded zip file on your internal sdcard
Reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery (don't do this from rom manager, it won't work)
Select Install zip from sdcard
Select Browse for zip on sdcard
Select the zip file you put on your sdcard above
(Let if flash)
Reboot, Enjoy!
maybe you lost root with flash to stock (by the way you must have stock KE7).

yes best way to install cognition rom (because the rom is based on XWKE7)
1) flash stock XWKE7 rom with odin
2) flash CF root for XWKE7
3) download cognition rom 1.07 and put it on /sdcard/external sd-card
4) boot with 3 keys into CWMrecovery
5) choose cognition_s2_107.zip file on sdcard and flash this wonderful rom
so i have done
spirotop

Questions, if you don't mind:
I rooted ages ago and apparently a lot has changed since then..new roms/kernels and other stuff.
First, I think 1) and 2) are understandable. Get 1) from Intratech's thread, flash with Odin. Get 2) from ChainFire's thread, flash with Odin. I can do this on my existing kernel, right? I have PDA: XWKE2
- Where do I get CWMrecovery from? It's not in the Market.
- How do I boot with three keys?

What firmware are you on ?
Same question. Rooted using the Exynos Abuse exploit. No CWM.
I can flash CWM via stock recovery, but it doesn't stick after a reboot. How do I get it to stick?

Ok, now i have att'chd 2 zip files for u, dwnld the same and put the 'CWM touch recovery 6.0.1.2-I9100.zip' file on the root of ur external sdcard.
Also put the 'Siyah kernel v5.0.1 .zip' file on ur Internal Sdcard.
then fallow the below steps.
•Boot into stock recovery (volume up+home+power), and select "apply update from external storage". Now select the cwm-touch-6.x.x.x-i9100.zip file you copied in previous step (this step gives a temporary flash that will disappear after reboot)
•You get CWM recovery interface (this custom recovery is temporary, not permanent)
•Inside CWM, select "install zip from sdcard". Then, select "choose zip from internal sdcard". Now, scroll down to the "Siyah kernel v5.0.1 .zip" file and hit power button to install it.
After the same Hit 'reboot system' in recovery to boot ur phone.
ur phone will be having siyah kernel with CWM app installed which u can use to reboot to recovery and install any custom rom (that supports Siyah) meant for I9100 on ur phone

Thanks for the guide, im going to try jt right away..... Wish me luck!
I made a stock recovery on CWM...then later I got TWRP and I like it, but if I want my old recoveries I can't get to them. How can I create an option to boot one or the other when booting into recovery?
You will have to install CWM recovery back on the phone to install the CWM backups. Just keep the install file handy.
Can he get to CWM Recovery install from his new TWRP that comes up now when he boots into recovery??
I ask this, because I have(had) CWM and used it.. Then I went and installed TWRP.... and now it works.....
BUT my backup(nandroid) is CWM.....
and while using TWRP..I want to goto CWM and press install... and cannot find the CWM.zip (within TWRP)....
Do I have to goback to Odin and reinstall the CWM??? Where would it go??
Put the CWM install zip the same place you would place any *.zip files to install. TWRP should have no issue installing CWM.
thanks Ray... I did do this.. but TWRP doesn't recognize it.. Could it be because there is only the .tar inside the zip?? it's the zip I used for Odin... maybe I should use a different CWM zip.. I know there's quite a few.. thanks....
Yes... Odin files are not usable in recovery.
You need a zip made to use in recovery.
You will find a zip recovery here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526431

thanks! now im back to cwm touch
Hello,
is there any easy way to backup my original factory firmware so after I flash a new ROM and I won't like it I can revert back to what factory gave me?
Best you can do is root your phone, and do a nandroid backup in CWRecovery before doing anything else to the phone (flashing a custom rom/kernel/etc). This will give you a 'snapshot' of your stock setup only with root, and all you'd need to do to unroot is flash a stock kernel.
Or you can simply flash a stock rom with Odin over whatever you have at the time.
There's no way to do what you're asking with a stock/unrooted phone.
As mentioned above u can't do it with out rooting. First root your phone without flashing any custom rom or kernel by pasting the zip file in ext sd and apply update using stock recovery. Then download recovery tools from play store and get your temporary cwm touch recovery. After this go to stock recovery and apply this zip. Then do a nandroid backup and reboot after it finishes. You'll have the exact stock rom, kernel and recovery. :good:

I know you guys here don't like such questions, but can I ask for links to that tools? I got S2 Root file but it has to be flashed via Odin. What recovery tools from Play Store? You mean this?: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.recoverytools&hl=pl
How can I get "my temporary CWM touch recovery"? What ZIP to apply then? Geez! Am I that stupid or it is just language issue? Hahaha

Dont worry dude. i'll try and explain as much as i can.
1. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794 and choose the Root_SuperSU.0.96.Only-signed.zip or Root_SuperSU.0.98.Only-signed.zip from the attachments.
2. Paste it in your ext sd card and power off.
3. Reboot into recovery mode and choose apply update from sdcard and select the SuperSU file.
4. Now reboot your device and it will be successfully rooted and SuperSU will be installed.
5. Download temporary cwm recovery from their website or get it via recovery tools in play store. (link provided by you is correct except for different language i think )
6. Paste cwm.zip it in ext sd and reboot into recovery mode. apply update and you will get temporary cwm recovery.
7. Now you can take backup from it. it will backup all your data and both rom, kernel and even recovery will be stock.
Be careful while flashing roms or kernels though. :good:
