adapter?
is it the original wall charger and the usb data cable.?
i too had a problem with an ordinary usb data cable. it charges so sloow. like 1%/20 minutes.
better use the original accesories if its the original one and defective better return it for replacement.
It's probably a cabel problem. Charging occurs only when pins AC and Ground (1 and 5 AFAIK) are both connected, and often some of the pins stop working. If it's not a kernel of power supply problem (Which it probably isn't), it will be solved by simply changing the cable. Or if the cable works in usb charging, buy a new adapter (Make sure it's 5V before buying).
I had the original charger, then broke it...
I bought an USB to replace that(the connector was messed up)... but that charged slow, and discharge when using...(still on the original charger, but another cable)
For 2 months, I borrowed galaxy chargers, and any other friends with cables like mine, I asked them for the charger...
Then, I decided this must stop! I told my mom to find me a galaxy s charger (she was noob, doesn't know I can charge from non-lg cables)...
She found me one, and all fine...
But, before trying to buy one of those, go to a friend with a charger that fits Optimus one, and try it, if it charges faster, then buy a new charger

Our stock charger uses a wall "adapter" and an usb cable... it charges from usb, but the chargers that have no adapter (you can't remove the usb from it), charge lot better, I recommend using one of those... any samsung charger that "fits" in our phone is better than stock charger
In mine it charges rarely ! i had lg normal charger but it stops charging if i lift the cell nd use it! den took my moms samsung pop charger ..it worked fine for few weeks den again same problem arised :-S

I lost mine. I bought 2 for one deal from ebay (noname cables) and they wont charge 30% during al night. So i told them it's faulty and they sent 2 another one. still no charge so i bought an htc one wich seems a bit better, but still not like the original. My friends lg optimus 3d cable was charged it full from ~70% in about 30 mins. His another htc cable was worked fine.

there have been other threads about this. usually its the charger overheating and putting it in a ziplock in the freezer, resets it.
Mine did that too, just leave the charger and everything unplugged from the wall for a day. That fixed mine.

The other issue I've seen is poor contact in the USB socket on the wall adapter. I had to unplug the usb cable from the wall adapter. Then, look at the usb socket on the power adapter. The gold pins are the usb contacts. Directly opposite of them, there should be two silver prongs. I had to use a small flat blade screwdriver to pry both of them out a little further to ensure they did their job of firmly pushing the usb cable against the socket's usb contacts. Once I did, my TF201 was able to get charge from it, again.
If you decide to replace the wall charger, I believe Fry's and Office Depot stock the asus charger.
Same thing for me.. PC recognizes it as a media device, but will not charge with wall charger. Wall charger works with my HTC Phone, so it works.
I don't think it has anything to do with the latest update, since the Dock wont charge either, and there's no OS in that, right?
Just experienced this today. I have had it unplugged for about 10 hours now, we'll see if it charges.
I had the same issue few days after I got my prime. I connected my sgs to the charger and it worked. Then connected the prime and voila-works.

C1. There are some good suggestions here I need to try.
Wrap it in a towel and bang it against a table. That will fix it usually. Then get some pc heatsinks and some arctic silver adhesive and you can attach them to the charger to keep it from happening again.
The plug has two options, 5V (standard for USB?) and 15V. I used the plug on my old HTC phone (Ozone) and then plugged it back into my Prime and it worked. Thanks for the great tips guys.
Since the charger works in two modes, I wonder if some charges became confused and started dishing out 5V when they should be dishing out 15V. Thoughts?

Hi, I got the same problem. The charger indeed seems to be stuck in the 5V mode, since, when plugged in the tablet does get charged, even though it is not indicated, but very slowly. It is charging as if it is plugged in to a pc.
I tried plugging it into (old) phones, but I still can't seem to get it to switch back to the 15V mode.
The freezer didn't help either.
Any other suggestions?
I waited about 4-5 hours before plugging into my old phone. My other suggestion is to allow the phone to charge for a short bit (30 minutes) unplug and wait, then plug into your Prime.
I have a feeling that its a transistor toggle that isn't flipping at the correct voltage.
I've had the same problem yesterday. In my case the problem was with the charge socket on the keyboard itself. Some copper pins were deformed and that stopped the device charging. I took a magnifying glass(also for checking if any of the copper pins are bend) and a small tool to bend them back. After this it charged again. Hope this helps.
My charger suddenly stopped working from today. The Prime is detecting the connection as the screen turns ON but it is not charging. I charged my sensation using the same adapter and USB cable and it is working fine. Why can I not charge Prime via PC like phone? Is it possible? I am in India and not sure if the power adapter is easily available as Prime is not yet launched in India.
Kindly suggest.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I've started to have this problem today, plug it in and it does come up with the charge icon but it doesn't charge - or doesn't seem to.
However I left it connected last night from midnight until 8am this morning and it went from 13% to 17% so it is charging VERY VERY slowly although the unit doesn't actual seem to think it is.
I have it plugged in to my phone right now and its working perfectly, I borrowed the charger to my g/f last night to charge her iphone and i'm thinking this might have done something to flip the voltage as since then it isn't working.
Anyone have any ideas on this??

But if the charger works fine when charging a phone it cant be the connection at fault..
It does seem to me that the power it is outputting has dropped especially the I managed to gain 5% over the course of a night where WIFI was off and screen was off even though the charge icon doesn't come up.
Is there a way of forcing the charger back in to 12v mode??
damnit... I had the same problems a few days ago and I thought it was in the cable instead of the charger... not realising the charger has to put out 15v instead of 5v.
Does this mean the Transformer won't charge with for example, my HTC charger?
I totally messed up my cable, because I thought it was broken... when I opened up the USB plug, I noticed the yellow wire was not connected anymore, but this didn't solve anything. Eventually I messed up the cable that bad, that I've ordered a new one from ebay... but when I read this... I should have just banged the charger a few times... shait.

Bought one of the 3FHUBEG HDTV adapters today to mirror my S3 onto my tv. According to the guide i should plug the official charger into the adapter and then plug the charger into the wall. When i do this i get NOTHING on my tv screen and the phone will not charge. I thought the adapter was DOA so after trying many things i removed the wall charger and instead i plugged the usb into my pc and voila it worked and the phone started charging and the S3 mirrored onto my tv.
It seems to be working okay this way but why isnt it working when i plug the usb end of the charging cable into the uk plug adapter and then connect it to my socket? Would i be doing any damage by just powering it via usb on the tv?
Im really confused. I charge my phone normally overnight and it works no problem with the usb charging lead plugged into the wall socket and then the micro usb into the phone but for some strange reason the phone will not power the HDTV adapter this way and will only work by USB power and not mains power. Any help appreciated. :good:
Check your cable first, some of them have 4 pins only and this can be a reason. If not, I'm not sure but wall charger have 1A output and this can be too much for adapter. USB output is 550mA so nearly half of it. Charging from USB won't damage anything, it'll only take longer to charge your phone.

It's definately a 5 pin and its an official cable. I'm just concerned as every video i've seen etc shows the charger being plugged into the wall. When i was charging it via usb, as its a slower charge, the phone seemed to be losing more power using the HDTV adapter than the charge was capable of charging, i.e the phone battery was draining power quicker than the USB could charge it. Absolute mystery.
Hmmm, maybe it's just so badly made...

Well if it were truly 2.0 it wouldn't need a power source other than the phone, and I assure you the one I recommended works with the note 3 considering I use it on a pretty regular basis.

The difference bewteen MHL 2.0 and 1.0 is not at the power source. Your recommendation also have a power port. It also need power supply.
Samsung 2.0 smart adapter does require external power and is able to work with HDMI TVs(from wiki ).
I ordered this one from Amazon seller Eastwest Accessories (seems legit; many sellers sell counterfeits):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0080CXSOU/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The port is longer than typical microUSB and must be inserted further into the phone. It needed power to work for me and power needed to be connected to it before inserting into the phone.
I also ordered a Chrome Cast and I am considering ordering the AllShare Wireless Receiver from Samsung.com using the half-off code they send for registering my phone.

I am fully aware of differences, its not the only one, but is most certainly a distinctive practical difference. The one I recommended does not Need a power supply other than the phone (compatible ones such as the N3), but does have it there incase you want to charge the phone while using it. It provides 300mah when plugged in.

This is the way to go. The one in the OP looks like there's too many components needed for it to work. This one from Amazon does not need a power supply or an 11-pin adapter. Just plug and play. I just got mine a couple of days ago and it's perfect!

You mean you weren't able to charge simultaneously? Were you using the stock 2-amp Samsung charger?
No. I don't like using MHL and charging the phone at the same time. It can't be good to battery, with all the heat and heavily discharging while charging.
MHL 1.0 without charging (and lowest brightness):
- stock video player: 20 minutes, 6% drain
- youtube, nba app, coursera app with wi-fi on: 20 minutes, 8% drain
- MX player: 20 minutes, 10% drain
What I would like to know is if MHL 2.0 adaptor (without charging) drains less battery.

If the battery controller and ppwer management are smart enough it should switch to external power once the battery is charged. Heat will also drop because the battery is neither charging nor discharging.
I'd be more concerned with the extra cycling the battery is going through without charging. Obviously, they originally expected you to charge while outputting video, so I trust the engineers who would know better.
Anyway, what MHL1.0 dongles even work without charging? It seems you've been using one.
I'm using MHL adapter from Samsung (official accessory for S3) and it works. Only adapter + HDMI cable, no power, no USB cable required. but FPS are way worse. it's only good for watching movies and not playing games.
Ok how are you guys getting this to work? I've tried it with an MHL 2 adapter (for S3, S4, Note 2 and higher) and I get nothing. I had one of the expensive MHL1 adapters with the 5 to 11 pin adapter that "kinda" worked, but the adapter made it a flaky connection, so I returned and went to the MHL 2 - 11 Pin only to HDMI - nothing...zip, zero, nada. Have tried netflix, MX, etc.
Does screen mirroring or airplane mode need to be on or something?
Baffled
Should be plug n pray, but try mirroring if that is an option

Does Vic Tsing MHL converter work with Receivers?
For those who have the Vic Tsing MHL converter from Amazon has anyone tested plugging this into a Receiver HDMI/MHL port. I have the genuine Samsung and that only works if you plug it into a TV.
Also for the discussion about charging. If you are using MHL output and have a power adapter connected you are not charging your battery. All of the output from the charger is being used to power the phone and the converter. This means less drain on the battery and it should run cooler. The phone itself will draw the same current whether it's coming from the battery or the adapter so it will run as hot either way. From memory mine ends up draining about 1% every 15min using an adapter and the MHL 2.0 converter from Samsung.

Wait. So even the HDMI dock with USB hub that was supposed to turn the Note II into a desktop PC had less flexibility than a battery powered notebook?! At least a laptop can be plugged in to charge during use! If the docks do it but the MHL adapters don't, it sounds like a horribke tactic for selling more expensive docks.
I bought this hdmi cable from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K61OB6C/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I hooked up the tab to the tv, cranked up netflix and nothing. I plugged in the power adapter and got a picture. So needs charger to plugged in to work. I wasn't real keen on the output, but was only testing for connectivity. Might come back and edit after I have chance to adjust settings.
Today, I plugged the cable into the second hdmi port on my tv and it does mirror the tab display. Good response time too.
The charger is necessary but it does not charge the Tab. Left it plugged in and battery was down to 38% before i noticed.

Probably not a hardware error. I'm on my 3rd dongle that's supposed to charge your tablet while using connected devices. The latest is this one: http://www.amazon.com/E-More%C2%AE-Multi-functional-Connection-Reader-Samsung/dp/B00K80C9CE/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1403104007&sr=8-8&keywords=HDTV+HDMI+Adapter+Cable+USB+OTG+Card+Reader
Everything works except for charging the tablet. Have a red X on the charging symbol while the battery continues to drain. It does charge the tablet while it's off. I have a power hungry Tab Pro 12.2 that has trouble maintaining a charge while playing a couple games with the stock 2 amp charger. I'm beginning to think that none of the HDMI dongles out there are capable of delivering the current necessary to run the larger tablets.
Ah, I see. It's because not enough power through the micro usb. You need 2A but this adapter's only delivering 1A.
It seems, there a no adapters with 2A...
I have a ton of usb chargers gathered over the years. Largest i have is only 5.1 volts. Tab has a large output. Wonder if other devices could be damaged using it or is output regulated by draw of whatever it is attached to? At any rate, i don't think any of the dongles or otg cables have a power source other than what is supplied by the tabs adapter. So are you thinking it is an issue with the pin configuration on the adapter? It is a 11 pin connector. Sure wish there was 1 standard for everyone instead of everyone having their own.
Sent from my LG-D959 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It's not limitated by the pins, there are just for more or less possibilities for an interchange (at least a salesman told me that). It's limited by the inside electronical components. Maybe anybody out there to explain it better or correct my words?
If I remember correctly (it's been a couple years since I tested it), my S3 required the Samsung charger + Samsung wire hooked up to the HDMI (I have the Samsung HDMI adapter) to charge the device while mirroring the screen. I tried it with a more powerful power adapter (2.1 amps vs Samsung 1.x amps) and generic wire but the phone would lose power over time. I could even charge the phone while mirroring if I used a generic Samsung wall charger and Samsung cord that was listed as 0.8 amps.
I bought the official Samsung one a few weeks ago and it is working fine, it also charges the device while using it but you have to connect a charger to the MHL-HDMI adapter.
Sadly I recently flashed CM11 on my TabPRO 10.1 and now the adapter doesn't work anymore. I get picture but no sound Was so happy about getting CM11 official on my device, but this feature is something I can't live without so I'm going to have to hop back to stockbased
HDMI doesn´t work
Hi guys! I´ve bought this one adapter dhgate.com/product/1-1-mhl-11-pin-micro-usb-to-hdmi-cable-hdtv/163941539 I know is not the original one but doesnt work!!!! I did all the steps but nothing. Any idea?? I have installed the original ROM on my galaxy tab t520. I need help!!! Thanks
Hey everyone, so just reading all the comments regarding the HDMI adapter not charging your tab while it is plugged in with the charger, I have also had issues with it and also with my Note2 and the Samsung Smart Dock I use with it. But I did however manage to find the solution to why it would not charge while on the HDMI dock that is connected to my T.V. It seams that if you plug either the Smart Dock or even the HDMI connectors to the HDMI cable first then plug in the charger it will show its charging but will eventually lose charge while outputting an HDMI output, instead, you need to first plug in the charger cable into your HDMI adapter, then plug it into your phone or tablet and finally plug in the HDMI cable into the adapter, I have found this to be the way to keep my phone and tablet charging while also having the HDMI output connected to my T.V..
Hope this helps .
