Is there any need to run sd speed increase with rooted gingerbread? Is it safe to use?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
I have been using sd speed increase since switching to pre-rooted GB. Initial setting was 128kb now 2048kb. No problems so far.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Ya same here no problems yet.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
No problems here yet with stock SD card settings built into GB update. I really think Motorola devs probably scoured these forums looking for bugs to fix and did a good job of fixing them. Probably why it took so long.
Stock still uses the 128 value, so yes using sdspeed increase will still help you.

Can anyone confirm if the SD Speed Increase app changes cache settings for the internal or external card?

SD Speed Increase, Increases Your SD Card. I Also Have System Tuner Which Speeds Up My Internal.
Mike,
I was originally using both, as well.
Today, I found that changes to the cache setting in STP were mirrored in SD Speed Increase -- which leads me to believe that they are both acting on the same card ... the internal one.
Moreover, my 32gb/Class 10 Patriot card is still benchmarking at some horrendously slow speeds.

Interesting That You Say That, So That Means STP Was Lying And Giving Flase Information?
I did a few tests moving a 256mb mp3 to the sdcard and stock was sitting at 1-1.2mb/sec and after installing sd speed increase and a reboot it was 1.5-1.7mb/sec. I consider both of those horrific and might need to get off this stock card.

Mike,
Try changing the cache size in STP - which should effect the internal card - and then check the cache value in SD Speed Increase.
Mine ended up being the same.
Do you get a different result?

It only changes the cache size for the internal memory.
I emailed the dev a few weeks ago, he said he's going to think about giving people with phones like ours (X2, Atrix, etc) the option to mod our external card in a future version.

Thanks Juhde, Glad To Know I'm Not Going Crazy. Yes STP By 3c.
So as of right now, we don't have an easy way of changing cache settings for external cards ... darn it.
Any ideas on how to do this manually?

I Was Referring To Why I Have Two Numbers Is 3c Does My Internal And SD Card Speed Increase By Diego Stamigni *Free* For My External.
Mike,
I think Juhde confirmed that SD Speed Increase only changes cache for our internal sd card.
I read a thread somewhere - started by the developer - where the issue of internal and external cards was discussed. Apparently, there is a manual workaround for other android phones with the same int/ext card issue.
I will try and locate that thread ...

Mike et al,
Here's the link:

I haven't read through the entire post ... 66 pages.
And I definitely don't have the know-how to script the workaround, if there even is one that will work for the DX2.

For the short time that I was running oxide vs Eclipse in antutu I noticed huge differences in the SD speeds. For Eclipse SD write 6.1 and Read of 7.1 (not sure if antutu is benching internal or external now) Oxide I was getting write speeds of 19 and read 22. SD speed increase doesn't seem to do much, that or it only affects the internal speed perhaps? Is there anything that I can add to the build.prop or any flashable file that would truly increase the speed? I did see in the changelog credits were given to navendrob for sd speed increase. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Curious if this tweak does anything for performance as in will my apps load faster and run smoother? Or is it really just for copying and moving files? Not that my apps take long to load mist of the time.

Thanks. I just checked twice. First time read was 15 second was 17.
Also one more quest I forgot. Is this tweaking the internal or external sd? When I try to choose which sd to test in antutu it has /sdcard and then the bunch of /usb ones that I see in script manager at /mnt. So im wondering if moving my app to media area un application management is putting the app on my external or just a special spot on the internal. They really made this sd card crap confusing Hahaha it could have been a lot mire simpler
And also is there a way to check ny external sd speed if this IS my internal.
And do I need an app2sd app from market to actually put my apps that support that on the external if moving to media area is just a special internal space?
And thanks again for ya help mike.

The only place I think I would have any chance to find something is one of these forums.
It has root access and is set for set to boot. Antutu is still only reading 5mb/s read and write w/a class 10 SD card. Derp.

Do you have any scripts running?
Have you tried making superuser forget sdboost and then allow It again.
Just trying for the simple first.
do u have the sdflip hack to switch which sd cards your phone recognized where?
Any specific tweaks you have going on?
I am also ob eclipse rom but ver.2.1 not the newest since I didn't have any problems on it and that's all the new version fixed was accounts and camera.
Also I see navendrob has the sd increase included in the init.d hack (BSR flashable) I just haven't tried it yet because I am running scripts and have my phone set to what I want right now. That would be the only tweak I wanna try at least tonight. Im hoping to try and get it separate from the others somehow.
Don't know if you want to try that out and just delete sdboost app if it works.
I am curious if oxide had the tweak that switches how your phone views the sd cards.

Thanks for all your responses. I am curious as well if that's what Oxide does, cause I got GREAT speeds on my SD. Another thing of interest on nenamark on oxide i got like 54-56 fps vs 46-47 on Eclipse. But after a reboot on Oxide the frames drop back down to 46-47 on nenamark. However as per the SD speeds they are quite good. I tried the SD program first, then the init hack as well. Both have same results, but slight increases. I also installed the blurbuild prop zip as well. Hmm..

Yeah I did the build.prop zip earlier and on top of that I run v6 update 9to with megaram2 setting with oom grouping fix and htk launcher. Also have safer KAK running also and my phone is runnin really nice right now. I will be tweaking some of it here and there. I haven't tried oxide yet. I have it downloaded just haven't wanted to switch yet.
Probly will try it at some point after a nandroid and all but am busy with other things for now.
Which sd program ar u talking about? The one that switch recognition?
I found that the build prop edit alone from navendrob made my.music skips return until I ran v6 with it. It did make my phone pretty snappy but I find it even better complimented with v6.
Its like good beer and cheese. It just goes together
Today I got the dreaded notification that has haunted my past xperias for years, you have low storage memory available
I'm an app hoarder and keep apps ill probably never use for months.
I remember seeing an article somewhere that moving apps to the sd card can really slow down your phone. I hope that this won't happen to my phone and am wondering if anyone else has moved apps to internal storage and does it affect the speed?
My xs has been very good to me and barely ever lags, something that I have never experienced unfortunately, I hope it stays that way :S
In short...
Q. Does moving apps or anything in general to internal storage affect the speed of the XS? Have you noticed any difference?

because your question is easily google-able... heck even if u're using a little logic, u can answer the question urself.
A: the answer is NO. it's in the same memory chip (the 32 gB one), so the speed is must be the same. the difference maybe will come in the filesystem (ext4 v fat32), but afaik the speed different is really minimal (if any )
Hey i found how to create swap partition on sd card or phone memory but i can't find what it gives to.
Most important for me is:
Is it destroying sd card after some time using this? I read somewhere that it is
How much is it giving to rom you know performance and gaming? If there is any thread like this just give me link. I couldn't find
It MAY degrade sd card life if you use the partition instead of the file, but long-term talking, it's not like after 1 day it'll be useless. Swap is good for multitasking, since it allows cache apps to run on the sd card memory created by you, but it is not good for gaming, i don't know why, but that's the way it is. The more the swap, the worse games work

Hey guys, long time no see. I've recently came back to Android after a longtime hiatus with iOS. Nonetheless, I've acquired a 64GB HTC One. Although they guy I got it from didn't specify it being rooted, the device has been, and I even found a rom.zip on the root of the card. I've since deleted it, however, I believe it was labeled "Stock AT&T, Rooted, Deoxed". That's a fine and whatever, as I planned on rooting the device anyway, however, I have a HUGE "Other" usage under storage. The total size of it is 14.75GB. Can someone explain what in the world is taking up that much space? I've ran an analysis using ES File Explorer, but it shows the folder taking up the most space is my music. I can't pinpoint where all this data is.
are you on 4.2.2?
I am as of now. This thread can be closed, flashing Android Revolution cleared up the issue
In case you come across this issue again, I use an app called "memory usage" that gives you a detailed breakdown of what's using what storage. Been using it for ages. Very simple to use, and it really helps track down folders and files that eat up a lot of space.

I am having a similar issue. Almost 9Gb usage is listed under "other", this in a 32 Gb HTC One(AT&T). The memory usage app does not show anything that would contribute to this 9Gb usage.
Any ideas on what it could be?

So I checked my kernel setting earlier today to tweak some things, and I notice that my cpu is always running all 4 cores, all of which are are running at the highest frequency. I'm using the stock kernel from the official cm builds, and I even updated to make sure it wasn't a rom issue, I've had this device for over a year and it's never done this, and it's really eating my battery up now, anyone have any suggestions for me?
Edit: I've noticed that taking my micro SD card out seems to solve the issue, why would my micro SD causing so much strain on my cpu? I've had the same card for three years and two different phones and never had this problem till now and I've noticed under my battery settings that "media" has killed 20% of my total battery and I've literally used no media at all, I've tried wiping my cache/dalvik, I've tried reflashing my rom, nothing works, any help is appreciated
Common issue with sd cards. I used to get that problem a lot on my Samsung phones. Sounds like your card has a lot of stuff in it and something in it is not playing well. Time for a clean up. That's the only suggestion that ever worked for me.
